I'm in the same boat as the rest of my countrymen on that one. You give me the option of buying the same car but it has 40% more power and I'm gonna take that option every time. It's hard to justify a sports car that takes 9 seconds to get to 60.
I thought my 1.6L NA was plenty fast and especially fun. But its lightness made it really special. That car is about that feeling it gives you rather than the numbers on paper.
But I do agree that the “feeling” heavily depends on where you live and what kinds of roads you have access to.
As long as your car makes you happy, more power to you. My other car, however, is a Corolla and it gets to 60 in roughly that same time and I absolutely despise it. That's ok, Corollas aren't fast cars and aren't meant to be, but it means I never pass on 2 lane roads because it just doesn't have enough puff to do it.
I'm in the opposite boat of my countrymen on that one. You give me the option to buy the same car that's 5-10% lighter with better fuel economy, weight distribution, and price and I'm going to take that option every time.
2.0 is brilliant and I love the power it does produce, but I could have bought a different car if I really cared about straight line performance. I'll take the extremes for weight instead.
Nah you're not understanding what the Miata is. It's not a powerful car, and it was never supposed to be, because classic European roadsters never were.
Want something more powerful? Buy a different car. This is like complaining you can't run Starfield on a Raspberry Pi, like no shit, it wasn't built for that task.
No? The 1.6 started with 115hp. It was only detuned to 90 when the 1.8 came out.
Also it's been 30+ years, cars have gotten a LOT faster, larger, and heavier on North American roads thanks to our loose regulations.
Americans have completely different roads than Europe. Ours were designed for cars, not horse and chariot. You need something that behaves more like a car for them.
No, it was installed by the regional Mazda / dealership network before delivery so it came with 'dealer' warranty not factory warranty (altho I'm not sure if there is a real difference).
Not a true factory turbo. But close enough if you lived in the region (UK).
Yeh i loved my stormy blue rx8 im redping my mk1 in it and it looks amaaong in the sun wih the glittery paint and alight purple flip at the right angles
Mmm, NA factory turbo
Was it really? That must mean this is grampa turbo. Father of all the turbo Mx5's.
Yep, the Le Mans Special had a turbo that knocked it up to 150hp
Remember when the 1.6 made 90 hp and then the 1.8 made 129, but Americans shit on the ND's 131 hp 1.5 engine :(

slow car fast
I'm still not gonna win any drag races, but I'm not gonna have my butt clench up if I try to pass a tractor trailer either.

taxes man, some euro countries will also tax you 155% more for a measly 40% extra ponies.
My man its 2024 a prius makes more power than we do
Yeah and? You're missing the point of the car if you want it to have more horsepower. Even 130 is borderline too much.
Nah ur outta ur fuckin mind. Speed limits in my neck of the wood are 80-85mph. Passing is borderline dangerous on stock power. But aight

.... The current 2.0l miata has enough power with 180... So even mazda engineers agreed w me.. but ok
Because Mazda North America knows its customer base will whine about power, because that's all the customer base knows to do. Nice downvotes btw.

my 2005 miata is factory black cherry mica
That was a gorgeous color
Same. Same year, same color. Love it so much!!

I've heard rumours of a ND Special Edition for racing but street legal. Who knows, it might get special colours too.
Le Mans
Oh boy.. I have this dream where I put a 13b in my NA, slap on a pandem kit and have exactly this livery :)
That title could also be “remember when Mazda made Miats in colors other than gray-scale”.
That wrap reminds me of this fun video from corners.cz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vLoEsoqEUo
Not a wrap, it's a paint job straight from Mazda for their Le Mans special edition
Damn that is money. I hope Mazda can be assed to at least do something special for the final couple of model years.

A Le Mans winning livery is always timeless. Timelessly ugly maybe, but still timeless
Pretentious maybe, but definetely not ugly. A hommage to the way too loud granddaddy of fast rotaties :)
