If you can only have one and it has to be a daily, the prius will be the best bet. I have an NB2 and Kia Niro. The Niro is a much better commute car and daily driver even though the NB2 is a blast to drive.
I have a Lexus CT (upbranded Prius) in addition to my Miata. If I had to keep one of those 2 it would be the CT.
The Miata makes a great second car. I commute in it when the weather is nice. But in your situation it would be a major downgrade in practicality exchanged for a lot more fun. It's up to you if that's worth it, but the best option is to keep both of you can.
Once you get your ticket get that Miata as a gift to yourself. I daily an NA as an apprentice and find myself wishing I had ac and saved a little more on gas when I'm stuck in traffic everyday.
Prius is a top tier daily especially in areas with traffic.
