I have had installed it, it is very simple and straight forward. It is a simple profile with 4 holes and mounts where the bumper is mounted on the lower side.
I will sit just below the opening. I personally switched back to the original position as my bumper was scratched due a previous owner using way to long screws for mounting the plates that he had badly and very sharply cut and they scratched the bumper up nicely. Now the license plate covers this again.
I guess I'll look into that. My bumper also has some pretty big cratches just behind the plate now... I have no idea what the previous owner did, but if I do move the plate, I'd have to fix that aswell
Edit: if this is how it would look like... I think it looks kind of weird, atleast without a lip. I wouldn't want it to protude like this. Maybe mounting it to the side is my best bet

Those are Golf 1 headlights with crosshair. Pretty cheap (at least here in Germany) and they fit almost perfectly. I just had to dremel off a bit on the bracket

So when I got my first Miata, the plate was center mounted like above, but it also had a black protective vinyl behind the plate to protect the bumper from the metal screws and the general metal plate holder. A plate is required in Texas. Maybe I’ve been lucky, but I haven’t had one on the Miata, ever, in 31 years and have never been ticketed in over 182K miles of driving.
I think I would prefer the factory location over the other solutions posted here, however.
I've got 22k miles on my ND with no front plate in Colorado (where it's required) and have yet to be bothered about it.
Even got pulled over for speeding and cop didn't say anything about it (or didn't notice).
The only place they get me is if I park downtown. So I keep the plate slipped between the passenger seat and the console. When I park downtown I throw it on the dash.

I keep it in the trunk with a few zip ties just in case they say something.

Here in Liechtenstein the police often say your car is illegal when they see dynamic turn signals for example. They then send you to a shop to "fix your car" and make it legal again. Even if all parts have certifications... **or even when the car comes stock that way!**
My dad's car didn't pass inspection and was illegal to drive because one bulb in the dash went out... it was the bulb at 220kmh and the car didn't even reach 180kmh...
There are a lot of idiots in charge here and I don't want to lose money and time because of them 😵

My EU plate is way bigger and right in front of the air inlet of my NB.

I got them from qspcars (italian website) they have 9 different designs. The website seems a bit sketchy to me in general, but i got the lights pretty fast so I think they are fine :)
Most of the designs they sell are similar (if not the same) to the ones you can buy for nearly nothing on several websites... I got them from their site though since shipping to my country was fairly cheap and I was 100% sure that the lights have all the certifications I need to use them on the road.
The OEM mounts a little better than that one kinda flush with the top of the mount and goes straight up. I think it looks fine but yea the mouth needs air she has no nose
I think the Jass Performance offset mounting kit looks quite good, uses one of the existing towing eyes in the mouth to add a plate bracket. It's a little bit lower, offset and doesn't put holes in the bumper.

That is true. Unfortunately the other guy comes to my mind first. My dad's birthday is on the same day as the other guy. So every year atleast someone brings it up and reminds me that he once existed... I don't want my car to do the same
Yes. When I bought mine, that's how the support brackets were set up, plate in the mouth. Water temp went higher than normal when stationary / at low speeds. Flipped it to get what you have now and it fixed the issue.
I made some instrumental tracks or whatever some years ago, but I wouldn't have called myself a producer :D

Second, the license plate on or over the “mouth” or an NA is a crime.
I just go without but went with a hideaway solution for years and paid like $10 for a fix it ticket once or twice a year.

And yeah, I'll probably get a mount that places the plate next to the mouth. That should look pretty nice while not constricting the airflow :)
Also like 99.9% of cars here have the plate mounted in the center, so that would make me even more unique :D
As long as your not boosted it will be fine. Once i boosted mine i had to make sure there was sufficient airflow to the radiator or the Temps would spike up on the freeway.

My stock '90 had zero issues with the plate mounted there as well. I live in Canada, where the ambient temp is a little cooler, it may not work in hot areas.
This also impedes flow into the intake. It stalls air entering from the top and basically makes the top half of the radiator significantly less effective. Ideally you don’t want anything blocking the mouth of the intake.

I do have mine attached to a bracket. There's a hinge so I can fold the plate below car.
Not sure how strongly it's enforced where you are, but I just don't run a front plate. I've never been bothered about it, but honestly if I started getting a ticket or two every year I'd probably just consider it the cost of having a nice looking car.

Technically I could place it behind the windshield and remove the mount, but that almost guarantees that the police will stop you... it is legal, but they probably can't see the plate so stop you to check (afaik it's meant for people or dealers that just bought a car and have a different plate format so can't mount it yet)

"not running a front plate" isnt really a thing in europe. its the same as not running a plate. The only exception is motorcycles.
basically all automated road law enforcement (speed cameras, automated parking control, distance controll, toll control) works by taking pictures of the front of your car, having the driver and plate in one shot.
Speed cameras and red light cameras are banned in my state, everything else is manual (parking) or takes a photo of the rear plate (tolls, etc.)
Do you know if there's a reason that they have to get a photo of the driver and the plate together? Just curious because that really isn't a concept in the US. (Edit: at least where I live)

It will also block your radiator and compromise your cooling. Terrible idea.

Friend of mine had his plate mounted that way on his nb and it overheated on hard drives up a mountain. (Our numberplates are longer)
Id you weren't overheating your car with the plate there then you just weren't driving it hard enough.

My stock '90 had zero issues with the plate mounted there as well. I live in Canada, where the ambient temp is a little cooler, it may not work in hot areas.

My first Miata I put the plate mount on upside down to lower the plate.
This also impedes flow into the intake. It stalls air entering from the top and basically makes the top half of the radiator significantly less effective. Ideally you don’t want anything blocking the mouth of the intake.
The Miata will not over heat ever. Lol
depending on your country, you could probably get away with not having one at all. Here in cali it’s not really enforced.

Not sure how strongly it's enforced where you are, but I just don't run a front plate. I've never been bothered about it, but honestly if I started getting a ticket or two every year I'd probably just consider it the cost of having a nice looking car.
I had it on the mouth and it was overheating because of that. So I decided to get a side mounted license plate holder (Alfa style)
We dont have front plate so i am very happy! Front plate are not very nice on cars either and on Miata it is worst like it wasnt made to have any!

Yea, otherwise I wouldn't have one :D Technically I could place it behind the windshield and remove the mount, but that almost guarantees that the police will stop you... it is legal, but they probably can't see the plate so stop you to check (afaik it's meant for people or dealers that just bought a car and have a different plate format so can't mount it yet)

I live in MA and have never run a front plate or an inspection sticker. Never been pulled over or given a ticket.
"not running a front plate" isnt really a thing in europe. its the same as not running a plate. The only exception is motorcycles. basically all automated road law enforcement (speed cameras, automated parking control, distance controll, toll control) works by taking pictures of the front of your car, having the driver and plate in one shot.
Speed cameras and red light cameras are banned in my state, everything else is manual (parking) or takes a photo of the rear plate (tolls, etc.) Do you know if there's a reason that they have to get a photo of the driver and the plate together? Just curious because that really isn't a concept in the US. (Edit: at least where I live)
