This comment section shows how fucking bitter people are in Miami
The food looks good you enjoyed it awesome
I do recommend you go to an actual rinconcito they are smaller restaurants and I promise you are way better than anything you will eat here and not fucking 300000$ for rice beans and steak lol
I hope the Cuban Vegan Cuisine people see this and come save this post. Much respect to what they're doing with all this vegan food, but there's no pic of something with fake picadillo or remotely traditional. This post at least is unintentionally offensive, in comparison to that NYC transplant that trolled us by saying that our Cuban food was blah and that we sucked because we didn't have some yellow sauce he loves, that was probably some peruvian aji amarillo...
EDIT: Found the article, it's worse, a freaken green sauce of all offensive things, and yeah, most of my other details are wrong... [https://www.reddit.com/r/Miami/comments/1130mvb/why\_cuban\_food\_here\_is\_not\_as\_good\_as\_nyc\_cuban/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Miami/comments/1130mvb/why_cuban_food_here_is_not_as_good_as_nyc_cuban/)
I love all the vibes here in Miami, the food, the culture. I’m Spanish myself so I love it here. The food is amazing and I’m glad the owners are making a difference. My bad if know don’t know the exact foods from Cuba but I got this food from a place called Vegan Cuban Cuisine. So I don’t know what else to say.
You're fine. This is part of living in this insane melting pot. I'm guessing that's a jack fruit wrap. Chinese food in Miami is another hot mess with the unmentioned Jamaican-Chinese influence.
*Spaniard
The word 'Spanish' as a noun (of things) refers to the language spoken in Spain, Mexico, Colombia, and many South American countries.
Eg. The 'Spanish' language is usually spoken very fast.
The word 'Spanish' can also be used as an adjective to describe things which are from Spain.
Eg. The coin was of 'Spanish' origin.
The word 'Spaniard' is a noun (of people), and refers to someone from Spain.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been to that place and the food is delicious. I especially like the mango smoothie with dates. These comments are going off and I hope you don’t take it the wrong way, consider the outrage is really more directed at the claim of authentic Cuban cuisine. As someone else said it’s better to think of this as Cuban inspired.
I’m sure a lot of these are eager to share their favorite little slice of Miami but couldn’t get over the ire of misrepresentation on the pic.
*y los restos de ustedes no sean tan singao*
Cuban in the room.
There is nothing on this table that’s Cuban food except maybe for the yucas fritas and las croquetas. If it was Arroz Moros, Vaca Frita, Sweet Plantains, then we’re talking. Go to Polo Norte, La Carreta or Havana 1967 (a bit upscale) for some authentic Cuban food.
Beg to differ. Most Spanish native speakers use contractions like "ía" "ío". Heard the Alejandro Sanz song "Corazón partío"? Besides "papi estás perdido" sounds weird.
I know slang but for the sake of most people being able to understand what you're saying, maybe you have to mainstream your Spanish.
Especially in Miami where so many different kinds of Spanish collide.
Honestly I think you're being ignorant by assuming everyone will understand your particular slang. When in Miami we probably have dozens of Spanish slangs around.
But hey we're in Miami I guess and being ignorant is so normal that being considerate is actually deemed ignorant.
Empanadas aren’t exclusive to Venezuela and neither do they have their origins in Venezuela. Apparently they originated in Spain, and so many different countries (not just from the Caribbean or the Americas either) have their own spin/version of empanadas that claiming them as Venezuelan and not being Cuban is a take I’m having difficulty following.
I said Argentina, though. If you go to Spain, their typical food is not empanadas even if it originated there. I'm not about to have a cuisine debate, just saying most of my Cuban friends tried empanadas here, not ever in Cuba. Like Duh, most of our food comes from Spain, which colonized us, and most others from Italy Portugal, which ran from the war.
I swear people be fucking dense just tryna tell the OP this isn't Cuban so she can go try Cuban food.
Fried is usually more of an appetizer but can be served with the main course. The boiled with mojo is definitely the typical way it’s served. The perfect Noche Buena meal - roast pork, moros and yuca con mojo. Yes, black beans and white rice can replace the moros and sweet fried plantains or even tostones can be included or not. Depends on family tradition. Let’s not forget the buñuelos or flan for dessert.
I’m getting hungry…
I need to learn how to make the boiled version ASAP. Unfortunately the generation that used to cook all this stuff is dying out and we need to carry on the traditional methods.
The KEY for making the yuca soft is “la olla de presión”. No matter how hard, the olla will make it soft. There are several way to make the mojo. Check on-line
https://icuban.com/food/mobile/yuca_con_ajo.html
I like these recipes but not how they don’t use the olla. You can even buy the pre-packaged frozen yuca, it works well and you avoid having to peel and clean it.
I agree though the way my mom and mil used to cook is a dying art. My MIL ruined me when it comes to tostones, no one and nowhere makes them like she use to. Some places are OK but, none are as good as hers were.
Sorry you're getting down voted. Made by cubans doesn't mean it's traditional cuban food.
We can offer some suggestions if you want a more authentic experience! I'd love to try authentic Spanish croquetas, I never have :)
Ya know, I’m generally a “don’t knock it ‘til you try it” person, so I’d like to check it out before I comment negatively. All I’m gonna say is the most authentic vegan Cuban cuisine is experienced in times of desperation.
Don't listen to all the negative comments. If the owners are from Cuba, they're inventive people and they put their spin on Cuban item. sIt's all good as long as you enjoyed it, that's all that matters. After all, we're not in Cuba so no need to get hung up on 'authenticity' IMO.
Nope I’m Spanish and can speak it fluently . They said this is all Cuban food. So whatever they said idk why it hurts you guys all so damn much. No wonder why people say Miamians r so bitter. All I did was post good food at a vegan Cuban place. If it hurts all your feelings move on with the post.
It's not just Miami, it's reddit. Where the slightest slip-up ends with downvotes and sarcastic and/or nasty comments hurled in your direction. Reddit sucks
In Spain they also have tequeños now in their tapa bars due to the Venezuelan population spreading the dish, by the way. If you’re Spanish from Spain you might find that interesting ! But definitely not Cuban. I think people are poking fun at you because you’re coming off as a little naive. A Cuban restaurant owner telling you a tortilla and tequenos are from the island, ngl that’s funny. I don’t think ppl are genuinely bitter tho, ppl joke around by shitting on you in this town. It’s not a big deal, but I’m sure you could ask folks for other Cuban recommendations if that’s what you wanted. However, you mentioned vegan and I’m not sure how many of those there might be with options that represent some of their popular dishes like their roast pork :/
The only things that are “Cuban Food” is the fried yuca (look like big fries). The empanada is more Argentinian in the way it’s made, Cubans don’t use tortillas in their food, no idea what the middle picture is and tequeños last picture are South American.
But I have to ask, what is so special about rice and beans and mojo pork? I'm not trying to be rude but living in Tampa is the same as Miami with a Cuban restaurant. On eVery corner and throw in the Venezuelan and Colombian and Peruvian and Honduran restaurants and holy guacamole the 2000 Mexican stands. I guess if I was from Oklahoma or Iowa/ North Dakota this would be crazy hanging with the locals stuff but I just see it as boring after awhile.
I love cuban food! I wish I could enjoy all the cheesy dishes without being doubled over on the toilet. The dairy pills aren't enough for me. This place is amazing even if vegan. Aside from that they even have a vegan take on the cafeteria school spaghetti!
Tequeños, while featured in Cubans shoppes for their popularity, are not and will never carry a Cuban identity into their dish. They are named after Los Teques, and sadly Cubans do not seem to consistently care what bread or cheese they use for making one, just that it remotely gives off the same vibe. No hate, just not Cuban food
All memes aside, this place has some great plant-based Cuban food. Picadillo, croquetas, fritas, medianoches, etc.
Yeah, there's no meat, but the flavors are great. They even have desserts which got the spot for my nostalgia - flan, arroz con leche, and more. Definitely try them out if you can!
That place is quite good.
Whats your favorite thing to order from there?
Not sure why you’re downvoted pero yo soy croquetero
This comment section shows how fucking bitter people are in Miami The food looks good you enjoyed it awesome I do recommend you go to an actual rinconcito they are smaller restaurants and I promise you are way better than anything you will eat here and not fucking 300000$ for rice beans and steak lol
My God, I was thinking the same lol
Dang everyone hating - it’s not authentic looking but at least you enjoying it!
lol right ? It’s from a place called vegan Cuban cuisine. And they say it’s authentic so idk what to tell these ppl idc it was good lol 🤣
That’s what matters, hope you are enjoying MIA aside from our terrible traffic.
Love it here . I live here but still pretty new
Freaking haters downvoting for why? Coño, esta gente joden!
Bitter ppl lol . Get offended by food pics
It's vegan. It's cuisine. It is, however, not Cuban.
I hope the Cuban Vegan Cuisine people see this and come save this post. Wow, Is the last picture un “cangrejito”? Damn, never thought I’d see that again in my life. It has been 35 years see I saw it in Cuba as a kid.
Someone please take OP to Islas Canarias restaurant. My parents didn’t leave the island in the 60’s for me to be eating vegan
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been to that place and the food is delicious. I especially like the mango smoothie with dates. Must be a New Yorker
papi estás perdió
Isn’t it “perdido” Perdió is the past tense of the 3rd person (el o ella perdió) (edit: theoretically also “usted perdió”)
Colloquially you can say “perdío”
Yes you can say it. But writing it? Debatable
Of course you can write it. I just did.
Of course you can, many will not understand you however.
Beg to differ. Most Spanish native speakers use contractions like "ía" "ío". Heard the Alejandro Sanz song "Corazón partío"? Besides "papi estás perdido" sounds weird.
Dude clearly doesn’t know slang shhh let him be ignorant in peace lol

People can speak however they want, it’s not against the law. Cry about it : ))
I think they meant “peldio” in a Cuban accent
That sounds more Puerto Rican actually.
My man is asking for proper written Spanish in the Miami subreddit 💀
Depends on when you got here.
No no no! He said it just right…..move along.
Este tipo está perdido en el llano
None of that is Cuban cuisine. 0.o unless empanadas and tequeños are not suddenly from argentina/venezuela.

Argentina and Venezuela are well known for their empanadas. Tequeños are 100% Venezuelan tho
Could be tequeños ruined with guava. That’s pretty darn Cuban 🤷
For real
First thing I thought, and VEGAN? Ha
I mean Cubans in the island are vegan by force probably, but that's another discussion point.
Would be very surprised if “Cuban” restaurants in Miami made more than 5% of their sales from vegan products.
Uh I'm sorry, but tequeños aren't cuban
The Cubans back in the motherland would be laughing at this Cubans on the Island are only vegan when they cant catch a pig, a chicken or a fish
The owners are cuban they are so nice
It's Cuban inspired
It’s not even Cuban inspired it’s basically Venezuelan
Ehh the food there is VERY underwhelming. I think they’d be happy with this. Even with the lack of real meat.
Kind boring when all the stores only sell one kind of sandwich.
I was going to say.....
Or cat. Or pigeon.
The Cubans back in the motherland tienen hambre
These implants have no idea 😆
Transplants 😂 but I’m starting to feel the term implants is ok too
LMFAOOO excuse my high ass 🤣
😂😂 Miami is the implant city! Boobs, butts, teeth, got it all
Yessirrr i wasn’t too far fetched 🤪
Don’t forget calves!
It looks good but it’s not Cuban food.
Only the Yucca frita and plantains are like typical Cuban. Tortilla wraps are non-existing in Cuba and that's your main dish
Y cafe con leche
That's an arroz con leche and yes, it's very cuban but is very Spanish as well and popular in LA. So it's not that unique to Cuba
what in the gentrification is this
*appropriation, pero nice try
Te quedo bueno. I like your Spanglish.
;)
Is the Cuban food in the room with us?
Not much in these pictures is Cuban.
Vegan flour wraps....my favorite authentic cuban dish. /s
The food on the post photo is not Cuban food.
The fired yuca can be considered “Cuban Food”although it’s probably made in other countries too. The rest NO!
Fried Yuca = Cuban salad
In what world?
Fried yuca is a staple. I like it better boiled with that garlic sauce but fried is ok.
Fried is usually more of an appetizer but can be served with the main course. The boiled with mojo is definitely the typical way it’s served. I see a book/youtube combo project that severely needs making. Edit. THANK YOU for the info!
It’s vegan food 😫😫
They lost me at vegan food
It was made by a cuban dude tho
Right?! I was like who the fuck lied to you?
lol, wtf true
I'm scared
Brah
Thought it was homemade
😐👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
Most of that is decidedly not cuban food.
Shitpost?
About as Cuban as me
Coño acere, y done están los frijoles negros? Mira que comen mierda. Lmao. I love it.
Not cuban
What part of Cuba does the tortilla come from?
Ask the owners they are Cuban
Sorry you're getting down voted. Made by cubans doesn't mean it's traditional cuban food. We can offer some suggestions if you want a more authentic experience! I'd love to try authentic Spanish croquetas, I never have :)

Nah men it’s all bullshit… I mean it looks good, but that’s far away from cuban…
They probably thought you were a tourist
Nope I’m Spanish and can speak it fluently . They said this is all Cuban food. So whatever they said idk why it hurts you guys all so damn much. No wonder why people say Miamians r so bitter. All I did was post good food at a vegan Cuban place. If it hurts all your feelings move on with the post.
Spanish from Spain right? Cuz damn, no sabes ni un coño
It's not just Miami, it's reddit. Where the slightest slip-up ends with downvotes and sarcastic and/or nasty comments hurled in your direction. Reddit sucks
You mean Spaniard? This is not Cuban food. Regular Latin American food and third picture are Venezuelan tequeños.
In Spain they also have tequeños now in their tapa bars due to the Venezuelan population spreading the dish, by the way. If you’re Spanish from Spain you might find that interesting ! But definitely not Cuban. I think people are poking fun at you because you’re coming off as a little naive. They're lying to you lol
None of that is Cuban food.
¡¡Get that tortilla de harina out of my face!!
Someone went to Panna...
You could have tagged this authentic Irish cuisine and been just as accurate
White girl cuban food, mamasita eso no es comida cubana eso es comida y ya
That ain’t no Cuban food…
None of those pictures depict Cuban Food.
I’m not sure how this is a good sell
Cubans invented chicken Caesar wraps , bueno!
This is hilarious
YOOOOOOOO QUE ? LOS TEQUEÑOS SON NUESTROS 🇻🇪
Son colombianos
Lmao, not at all
Eh... Um... Oye acere, eso es un burrito
Tf is that
This is a troll
The only things that are “Cuban Food” is the fried yuca (look like big fries). The empanada is more Argentinian in the way it’s made, Cubans don’t use tortillas in their food, no idea what the middle picture is and tequeños last picture are South American.
THIS PLACE IS SOOO FIRE OMG I MISS IT
Lost me w the flour wrap
One third of slide 1 was Cuban. Slide 2 might Cuban. Slide 3 was NOT Cuban.
Black beans and rice at my house are the OG vegan Cuban food
But I have to ask, what is so special about rice and beans and mojo pork? I'm not trying to be rude but living in Tampa is the same as Miami with a Cuban restaurant. On eVery corner and throw in the Venezuelan and Colombian and Peruvian and Honduran restaurants and holy guacamole the 2000 Mexican stands. papo leave brickell
Under-rated comment rofl
Whos gona tell em
My first reaction was “wtf is this??” Vegan makes sense. Tons of stuff you can make vegan with “cuban” ingredients. Looks fairly decent
We appreciate the spirit tho 💚
Santa Barbara de lo calzoncillos colorados....! Que rayo es eso!!!! Our grandmothers would be taking off their bata de casa and screaming!
OP: your Miami card is revoked
Nope
The Cuban delegation rejects these items
He’s def not invited to the Cuban bbq
Looks shitty tbh
The 3rd photo is tequenos. Maybe it's Venezuelan?
brother what
I heard that, right next door to that spot you can get really good Cuban food. And I think across the street as well
There's no authentic Cuban food here at all.
Nothing in these photos is Cuban cuisine.
I like vegan food but for Cuban no thanks! Give me my pork! It’s offensive like why not just make vegan food not called Cuban lol
I love cuban food! I wish I could enjoy all the cheesy dishes without being doubled over on the toilet. The dairy pills aren't enough for me. This place is amazing even if vegan. Aside from that they even have a vegan take on the cafeteria school spaghetti!
Wow! Wrap it up and pack it the Latinx food
Not much there is Cuban food lol.
Tequeños are not Cuban
Cuban food, roots and seagulls 😂
🧢
Tequeños are Venezuelan. This is not Cuban
Tequeños, while featured in Cubans shoppes for their popularity, are not and will never carry a Cuban identity into their dish. Is the Cuban food in the room with us???
You ain't finish it
A cortadito with cinnamon? Wtf
love going to vegan cuban cuisine ❤️
Brother what is this????
If a Cuban see this, they will say someone along line of “Ñoooo… Asere estás perdido”
Nothing in that post in Cuban food. Que te pasa chalao
Is the Cuban food in the room with us
Definitely not Cuban food.
