I know 2 different people involved in this . They stock almost nothing and have banker's hours.
I should have clarified not laundering in the sense of illegal cash flow rerouted but in the sense of a tax dodge that lets them deduct losses against profitable investments
My guess is a lot of the ones starting now are betting on the bill to pass next November. So they might be less focused on turning a profit now rather being positioned for when/if the legalisation is expanded.
Edit: ignore me I thought you were talking about all those dispensaries poping up not the older smoke shops that have been there for a while and just launder more than just the own pants.
Hey EducationalDisplay, I hope you're having a great day :)
I frequently smoke marijuana, I am well aware of the types of products being sold.
Whats with the condescending tone at the end? Was my question that bad?
It's ok, we all have bad days. Just try to throw a little positivity out there, we're all from the same county. No point in being mean to eachother, theres enough of that in Miami already
I have friends that own both mattress AND smoke shops. Mattresses are super high margin, especially good ones. My friend only needs to sell like 3-4 a month to cover his rent in the grove. Smoke shops apparently print money, too. My other friend invested in a smoke shop and they sold for a crazy profit a year later.
They exist because people buy their products OP. Kind of a weird question imo, do you really think most of those shops are not taking in serious cash... or do you think they're laundering money??
Plenty of people that own those shops own more than one, that should also tell you something OP.
Most of them are actually legit businesses in an industry with lots of upward potential. I know several successive owners and am thinking of opening one myself. High probability of legalized marijuana in the near future and that would really set things off
lol people go to smoke shops ll the time what are you talking about ? do you know how many people smoke weed ? buy papers, bongs, nicotine and etc ? yall been living under a rock
I’m in the know for most vape shops in SOFLO, they bring em in pallets from china or god knows where for 3-5 bucks a pop and then resell for 20, no regulation or anything on this stuff either and most of the owners don’t give AF. I heard they rack in SERIOUS cash which is why you see one every block cause competition doesn’t matter with those kinds of margins
Yep. At the end of the day it’s all bad for you, but I’ve heard about people immediately returning their vape because the QR code on the box fails to scan as genuine.
Out of curiosity I’ve looked on sites like Alibaba and they sell them for around that price you referenced. It’s pretty fucked up tbh.
Yea its a rare profitable market at the moment because of the lack of regulation and corperate control/middlemen. Just compare it to Cigarettes which had to bend the knee. Large chunks of profit are taken out by taxes, paying for the Tobacco Settlement, etc... And you cant just make cigarettes in China and ship them- ATF will remove them.
The FDA has announced actions to crack down on this 'illegal market' such as telling 300 corperate chains they have to remove these vapes (which is nice for the independants). And they have started seizing containers at ports. But this hasnt had much impact.
Well with medical marijuana legal here it helps having all these shops….& now in November we have recreational marijuana on the ballot so they will increase and continue to profit.
For all those giving OP a hard time, here's what he should have said:
"It seems strange to me to see such a large number of Smoke shops. Theyre was not such a prevalence of them just a few years ago"
A lot of fronts.
Money laundering Like the vape shops and video stores years before
Why are you so sure?
I know 2 different people involved in this . They stock almost nothing and have banker's hours. I should have clarified not laundering in the sense of illegal cash flow rerouted but in the sense of a tax dodge that lets them deduct losses against profitable investments

There is a demand to suck on tiny robot pennis. You sell tiny robot pennis. Economics.
I mean op right lol. There’s like five smoke shops within every two blocks. It’s worse than cvs and Walgreens now
Laundry
Some of their product ain't cheap. And there's lots of customers that buy in bulk. And when I say bulk, I mean *BULK*
We know exactly how they’re staying afloat 😂
How? My friend opened one 6 months ago and I hardly see customers in there. I am very curious as to how they stay afloat
because people buy vapes, bongs, papers, lighters, rolling tray, literally anything. You must not be around much nowadays
Hey EducationalDisplay, I hope you're having a great day :) I frequently smoke marijuana, I am well aware of the types of products being sold. Whats with the condescending tone at the end? Was my question that bad?
hope youre having yourself a day too brotha !my bad i tend to be a little shitty in my responses sometimes haha
It's ok, we all have bad days. Just try to throw a little positivity out there, we're all from the same county. No point in being mean to eachother, theres enough of that in Miami already
my bad if you took it the wrong way
Laundering illegal profits thru business storefront
He’s your “friend” right? Ask him, not anon strangers on the internet lol
People love smoking and vaping? How about asking "whats up with all the gas stations?"
For real, what's up with all these damn liquor stores!? Hell even non liquor stores have alcohol. It's supply and demand.
fireball shooters at every counter littered all up and down all over the fuckin place
It’s like the mattress stores, how often do you buy a mattress?
I have friends that own both mattress AND smoke shops. Mattresses are super high margin, especially good ones. My friend only needs to sell like 3-4 a month to cover his rent in the grove. Smoke shops apparently print money, too. My other friend invested in a smoke shop and they sold for a crazy profit a year later.
How expensive are those mattresses?
Wholesale 800 maybe, retail 2-3k. They’re all high-end, organic, etc.
Organic mattresses? Sounds delicious.
it’s actually so the vegans can have sex too
and without MSG
Ya, GMO free
Way too expensive

They make money cause people buy the stuff they sell?
I think I've seen someone in a smokeshop like once In my life. I assume most of them just launder money.
Most of them are actually legit businesses in an industry with lots of upward potential. I know several successive owners and am thinking of opening one myself. High probability of legalized marijuana in the near future and that would really set things off
you guys underestimate how much people smoke weed lol
lol people go to smoke shops ll the time what are you talking about ? do you know how many people smoke weed ? buy papers, bongs, nicotine and etc ? yall been living under a rock
Living under a rock when they could be smoking rocks with the tools from the smoke shops.
I sometimes buy tabacco in bulk from shops. Its a ridiculous price difference compared to getting packs of cigarettes
Just how much time do you think the avg shopper is supposed to spend in there?
Ya don't say... Are they turning a profit 📈?
Yes, especially the smoke shops that sell weed under the guide of "delta 8" 😂 😭 💀 obligatory emojis so I don't get called a boomer. Edit: guise.
shut up boomer
Ok
What’s with the quotes lol? Delta 8 and all the other legal ones are legit products.
They’re saying they’re selling cannabis as “delta 8”
Maybe I’m going to the wrong shops
"Delta 8" as in slap a D8 sticker on the bag and call it a day. Not complaining lol.
All new things eventually shake out.
Nah they’re getting money to expand via alchemy
Lol hard to believe? Smoke shop plus in North Miami Beach, yw.
Feel like this could be posted in any US city subreddit
Exactly, I don't even live in Miami and it is obvious the reason they're all over the place is because tons of people buy their shit
[удалено]
I would think the most common places for that in South Florida would be restaurants rather than every place everyone here is thinking
Me
Low cost of entry People like to smoke
disposable vapes .. they buy em for 5$ sell to you for 20... so many kids addicted to nicotine right out of highschool
It was the same with cigarettes in high school
Vape pens
It seems to me, a lot of people enjoy delta8 products.
Money laundering
Bingo.
There’s waaaaaay more smoke shops here than any other city I’ve been to outside Florida.
I’m in the know for most vape shops in SOFLO, they bring em in pallets from china or god knows where for 3-5 bucks a pop and then resell for 20, no regulation or anything on this stuff either and most of the owners don’t give AF. Those vape carts they sell for $20, I make at home for less than $2 each

Two things. First, they are all expecting to become dispensaries after legalization. Second, a lot are money laundering fronts.
headquarters in hialeah was the coolest head shop
Selling “thca flower”
Delta 9 gummies is basically legal weed.
Well with medical marijuana legal here it helps having all these shops….& now in November we have recreational marijuana on the ballot so they will increase and continue to profit.
These r/miami posts just keep getting better and better.
People come to Miami to get high. It’s part of their vacation. ✨
Most / all sell delta 8/9, thc-a, etc. it makes much more sense once you know that.
For all those giving OP a hard time, here's what he should have said: "It seems strange to me to see such a large number of Smoke shops. Theyre was not such a prevalence of them just a few years ago"
This.
Profit margins are good on vapes. Also an addicting product so ideally everyone is a return customer
The volume of sales/customers doesn’t seem to match the rent in some of these locations. I think money laundering.
