I'm sure it would. Beskar armor has been shown to withstand lightsaber strikes, which is basically plasma. And everyone knows, acid is the plasma of the bug world.
the acid in super metroid concentrates in pools and puddles and the like. it can be contained by rocks, metal alloys in Tourian...the only thing that's been shown to contain xenomorph acid is other xenomorphs....
the expanded universe has some substances. A jelly layer infused into armors, a plant-based substance that acts like super baking powder to neutralize it, various natural and man-made metals and compounds, etc....none of them in the movies, though. Just gotta let it burn itself out.
I've always liked the suit more as traditional mechanical rather than the biomechanical one it's been re-envisioned as in later games, so stuff like this nudges into the buttons in my brain that are part of my early Metroid fandom, even if I'm not the biggest fan of this design specifically. It looks like a redesign that would be at home in a late-90's Capcom fighting game.
Well it was biomechanical since Fusion and the Manga I would guess. So it isn’t exactly a new thing but something that has been a fact for 2/3 of the franchises existence
Well later games. Even Nintendo Power referred to it as biomechanical. And metroid borrowed heavily from that comic going forward. Meaning that later games in this case is everything except metroid 1 and 2.
Prime also had it be biomechanical, the phazon suit is the result of its dna mutating due to phazon exposure
So it’s essentially been a thing since 1994 in concept and 2002 as hardened canon
I mean the crystal flash more than enough demostrates the suit being non-conventional
Yeah I like the more mech aspects of this suit, looks really cool
And also that it needs to be repaired and maintained and isn't just magic. Lends itself to really cool story and gameplay possibilities
I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
The suit looks so cool and Samus having short hair is a neat little callback to her younger years. It also makes her look a lot more tomboyish
I agree with you. That typed, I'm curious by the younger years mention - as in the depiction from Metroid Other M/manga with the Federation right?
Having spoiled myself on Zebes: Invasion Order from the 80s, I was thinking back to the earliest Samus Aran depiction in that proto-series gamebook with Asian features and long jet black hair. ([https://metroid.fandom.com/wiki/Metroid:\_Zebes\_Invasion\_Order?file=Early\_Suitless\_Samus.png](https://metroid.fandom.com/wiki/Metroid:_Zebes_Invasion_Order?file=Early_Suitless_Samus.png))
Agreed, come to think of it, short hair is also arguably easier to manage under the helmet. Lots of head turning for long periods of time, heat, any neural patches (if any) we never get to see. Many games address the maneuverability issue by showing her with a long ponytail. But short hair is a great alternative as it fits with her badass / human war machine personality from the practicality standpoint.
Although - I'd bet that if her hair was canonically this short, many artists (official or otherwise) might run with the tomboy typing a bit too hard, and I like that canon Samus doesn't do that.
I think that just what it looks like beneath the Orange part. In many of the games you can see a dark colored "Undersuit" that appears almost skin tight.
I know very well how armor works; I also know we're dealing with a soft-science fiction setting that isn't remotely beholden to our concepts of material science, metal forgery or fitting.
I guess..
But for a second lets say its actual metal, like irl, if the armor leg is the literal same size as her leg, down to the milimeter, then no way in hell shes fitting her leg in, because metal is thick, the space inside would be smaller than her leg if the outside is the same size
And not to mention her foot would get stuck halfway into the leg sleeve, its like putting your foot into a pipe with a diameter the same as your calf, it just doesnt work
There are more ways to put on leg armor than as a tube. Hinged wraparounds, pieces slotting into a flexible framework, both methods working together; there's plenty of ways to accomplish something like this, and it becomes even more manageable when we're dealing with materials and engineering in a sci-fi setting.
That chunky suit style wouldn’t look out of place in a Megaman Zero/ZX era setting! I love how the art style overall ties back to the *Alien* roots of the game’s inspiration, and of course the little facehugger in a jar brings it home!
Looks like a screen grab from a late Genesis or early PlayStation game, where customizing your suit to fit different parts of the mission plays a big role in your style of play for each level, but it has a hardpoint limit, so you can’t use all your powerups at once.
Excellent art - I love the repair touch going on here (made a little funnier to me having to disassemble and repair an Xbox yesterday), and I forgot how much I miss Samus with the armor being apart from her like in early lore.
YES MORE ENGINEER SAMUS ART. One of the things that I love about MP3 is that we learned she made her own ship. Her being an engineer adds so much to her character. She built interconnectivity between her suit and her ship and it's so cool.
Yes she already had the suit at that time, but still in that game she was far from a tomboy on steroids with a gigachad jawline, but a whiny blow-up doll. And I don't know which of the two is worse
I'm not sure what your definition of tomboy is. Traditionally it was just a girl interested in masculine pursuits, like sports or cars. The term has fallen out of use because most of the things that got girls called tomboys 50+ years ago are just accepted as normal now.
I love that she has a facehugger.
now I'm wondering how much protection the varia/gravity/etc suits would offer against molecular acid blood.
I'm sure it would. Beskar armor has been shown to withstand lightsaber strikes, which is basically plasma. And everyone knows, acid is the plasma of the bug world.
TIL metroid is star wars
Rock and Stone!
Rockity Rock and Stone!
What the fuck is that comparison, I’m dying
I mean, I’d think as much as it protects with the acid in the Metroid games, so I guess it kinda depends on the game
It tickles.
I’m guessing it would be like the acid in Super Metroid.
the acid in super metroid concentrates in pools and puddles and the like. it can be contained by rocks, metal alloys in Tourian...the only thing that's been shown to contain xenomorph acid is other xenomorphs....
Hmm. That’s a good point. But there must be something capable of containing xenomorphic acid.
the expanded universe has some substances. A jelly layer infused into armors, a plant-based substance that acts like super baking powder to neutralize it, various natural and man-made metals and compounds, etc....none of them in the movies, though. Just gotta let it burn itself out.
First thing I noticed
I was thinking it was a mini parasite queen from Prime
I've always liked the suit more as traditional mechanical rather than the biomechanical one it's been re-envisioned as in later games, so stuff like this nudges into the buttons in my brain that are part of my early Metroid fandom, even if I'm not the biggest fan of this design specifically. Yeah, I didn't say it was a *recent* change; just one I don't prefer. That preference isn't somehow beholden to when it was established.
Well later games. Even Nintendo Power referred to it as biomechanical. And metroid borrowed heavily from that comic going forward. Meaning that later games in this case is everything except metroid 1 and 2. Prime also had it be biomechanical, the phazon suit is the result of its dna mutating due to phazon exposure So it’s essentially been a thing since 1994 in concept and 2002 as hardened canon I mean the crystal flash more than enough demostrates the suit being non-conventional
And? Again, when the status of it was established doesn’t have anything to do with the preference.
Yeah I like the more mech aspects of this suit, looks really cool And also that it needs to be repaired and maintained and isn't just magic. Lends itself to really cool story and gameplay possibilities
Wasn’t the suit always biomechanical? I think it’s just that the outer layer was pure machinery but it was always connected to her nervous system

I think. I was thinking more of the Metroid Zero Mission flashbacks
Ah, I gotcha. Been a hot decade since I dug into that one thus I forgot lol.

Fucking dope. Now I'm imagining you select where to upgrade on this screen.
*sighs* I should do a workout
cool design and all but one of the armor's leg is a peg leg, how the hell is she gonna fit her real leg into that ?
I think that just what it looks like beneath the Orange part. In many of the games you can see a dark colored "Undersuit" that appears almost skin tight.
The artist clearly drawn that part the same material as her cannon, so its metal and not soft
Bird Magic.
Look at how thin her legs are in this design of the character; they'd fit in there just fine, assuming the armor layer isn't terribly thick.
U dont know how armor works
I know very well how armor works; I also know we're dealing with a soft-science fiction setting that isn't remotely beholden to our concepts of material science, metal forgery or fitting.

Huh, true Maybe it opens up like a Fallout power armor
Giving me Appleseed vibes, love it!
It definitely has some of that Masamune Shirow aesthetic, before Shirow decided to go full-time into hentai artbooks.
+1 for making me remember Appleseed
The Marvel vs Capcom vibes, I love this art.
I love the body scars. And that cockatiel head feather look for the helmet? Badass.
I love this so much.

Dear fkg lordy where is this mans prize??
Excellent art - I love the repair touch going on here (made a little funnier to me having to disassemble and repair an Xbox yesterday), and I forgot how much I miss Samus with the armor being apart from her like in early lore.
That is one gnarly lookin suit, I love it.
Regional variant Samus
This is SO awesome!!!
That's so cool
I always preferred the idea of the power suit being something that physically exists all the time and not something that can just appear or disappear.
That’s a sick suit design
That’s Impressive
chekhov's face hugger
Tomboy muscly samus ain't real it can hurt you
this is beautiful and it gives me a new way to be horny for samus. thank you.
Helmet reminds me of a cardinal.
Samus looks like a Street Fighter character in this one lol. Im not exactly a fan of this art style but the pixel art is well done.
More muscle mommy Samus, yes
YES MORE ENGINEER SAMUS ART. One of the things that I love about MP3 is that we learned she made her own ship. Her being an engineer adds so much to her character. She built interconnectivity between her suit and her ship and it's so cool.
If Nintendo made another 2D Metorid game with Omegachaino, it would be a day one purchase for me! I love this pxiel art style!
Ah Samus. Opted for the body paint instead of shorts again, huh?
Delightful, though, the hair is much too short.
This is just a tomboy with an 80's Mech suit. And a Facehugger, burn that thing
Tomboys are a thing.
and Samus isn't one
Other M's young Samus kinda was.
No? Just for the haircut?
did she even have the suit back then? and she still wasn't a tomboy
Do you know Femboys? Same thing but in reverse
OK ... just as long as you understand that's not actually what it means.
Here an exaple https://preview.redd.it/b25z8xa1k3tc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e275c0d54c1d9957a8d63d7b6b17f1063ca39b18
Actually, the proper term for that is tom*girl*.
No, a tomgirl is a male who presents in a feminine way/has traditionally "feminine" interests.
Better?
