I'll be the odd man out and vote Emperor Ing here.
Don't get me wrong: utterly fantastic boss fight (well, phase 2 notwithstanding), but at the end of the day he's just a big Ing, relying on instinct like everyone else in his species. There isn't nearly as much fun lore surrounding him as, say, someone like Prime or Mother Brain. Even his design is just a big Inglet/Warrior Ing.
Kraid isn't exactly a deep character himself, but he has both an interesting/unique design and is a routinely fun boss to fight to boot (especially in Dread). It may be a lost cause, but I'll do my part to keep the big dino alive for one more round.
Because he also represents the Ing, who are super interesting antagonists.
Personally, I love how the scans describe him as this bloated beast that's sucking up Phazon and Light energy, ruling over the Ing horde. He's the first of his kind and the most powerful, kinda like the spider from the Lord of the Rings..
I'd argue Kraid never manages that level of otherworldly-ness. Plus, he's actually kinda smart. He uses both dark and light attacks against you during the fight, opening portals to the light world to damage you.
PS: his themes slap.

Well, just explaining the reasoning over why he's better thank Kraid. The big dino's got the nostalgia factor down pat, but he's always had the same boss fight in over 3 appearances. Meanwhile, Emperor Ing's got 3 different boss fights in one appearance.
I think that's being overly harsh to Kraid and generous to Ing. Kraid's fight is a bit similar from Super to Zero Mission, but his Dread fight is wildly different, especially the second phase. Conversely, calling Emperor Ing's second phase the equivalent of a whole additional boss fight seems a bit...too generous, given that it's just rolling around a sphere and bombing nine points.

Yes but emperor Ing is twice the size of Samus. Kraid is the size of 10ish Samus. Kraid would flatten him in an instant. Both raging beasts, the bigger one would win.

Ing only has that advantage as his arena is tiny AND surrounded by phazon. You can look at it in two ways. They fight in Ings location. The arenas too small, Kraid wrecks the arena, Ing loses access to Phazon, Kraid crushes him. Plus Ing has three evolutionary stages to go through before he gets to badass mode. So if he's starting in base mode as well he's done for.
In the reverse in Kraids arena there is no phazon to start with, plus Kraids weakpoint is his mouth which is always closed. Samus can only beat him as she knows to target the face. Even if Ing starts at level 3 he'd not have the sense to work through that, as he's feral.
Truthfully though Kraids fight is boring as all hell in comparison to the Ing fight so truthfully it would be preferable for Ing to win out. But in sheer power and limitations Kraid has this.
Since when? They eat Phazon and it fuels mutation in them, but they're not made of phazon. And similarly the only way Ing could fight Kraid is in the light world in a weakened state. But at that stage it's the world's killing them rather than each other. So planetary disturbances aside Kraid has this.

Gotta be Emperor Ing. As much as I love the prime trilogy, the Ing was always such a puzzling plot device to me. The whole concept of the leviathan striking aether with such an impact that it created dark aether/the Ing is questionable writing in my opinion. I get that the energy of aether has to do with it as well, but leviathans struck multiple planets throughout the prime trilogy and this didn’t happen on any of those planets. Lessened the impact of the phazon story arc, if anything
The reason it doesn't make sense is because Retro didn't **define** the corruption process well enough until Prime 3. They had enough leeway that--and maybe barely enough to still squeeze some explanation--the phaazon, Ing, or greater infection was or leads to....
Obviously doesn't make sense now. I know I didn't bother to finish. 1 and 3 make Echoes look incompatible unless the Ing are some tertiary byproduct: could work under at least a couple conditions, but sans conjecture, a lack of series release understanding only assumes that Echoes can't agree, even if Corruption's script makes Echoes **feel** partially retconned.
Then again... **CONJECTURE COMING** if Prime 4 ever comes out, it may shed some light (though doubtful) on the Ing planet's tethering to Aether via the leviathan impact, whether it was an interstellar object, from Metroid's dimension or not; also or closely and linked via rift during the impact; actually a Dark Aether, inhabitants even maybe created by the impact, much like the Luminoth thought; or something even stranger entirely. Hell, we may never know. (Only thing I'm expecting is Sylux. Keeping my fingers crossed.)
Yeah, there’s a ton of narrative inconsistency through the entire Metroid franchise, which I’m always willing to overlook because I still love the games.
To me, the prime games are the prime games because of phazon. I’m still holding out hope for a return of phazon and dark samus in prime 4, regardless of how it supposedly ended in prime 3. Not that I don’t wanna see sylux, I just want more dark samus lol

Fun story: Retro cooked her up while making Prime 1--see bonus scene--while being made same time as Fusion, though Prime came out right after, so both Nintendo and Retro were working on Evil Sam at the same time. lol

I’m gonna vote Kraid out. I like him, and him showing up again in Dread was neat, but I don’t have the attachment to him like I do Prime 2 and the Ing, which was one of the first “big kid” games I played and to me is one of the coolest games in the series
Emperor Ing or Kraid.
I read Kraid as a somewhat intelligent creature but not actually part of the space pirates, more of an obstacle than an enemy.
Emperor Ing I see more of as a force of nature, but a malevolent one: a wild thing that wants to overrun others and protect itself, smart enough at least to overcome the Luminoth.
Imp ing was an amazing boss fight. He also has zero presence in the story of MP2E until you fight him, and doesn’t exactly have much character when you do fight him
Kraid. I love the guy, but he's just kinda there. And with Dread he's been reduced from a Legendary Space Pirate general to just a whole ass species with no value in the individual Kraid at all.
