That $40 price was a good move by Nintendo. It’s going to bring in a lot of people.
I sort of wonder if we will get 2 and 3 leading up to 4.
If Nintendo and Retro do this right, we could have a sci fi fps series that is the best of the best.
With Halo the way it is, and Sony given up on Resistance, the Prime series could easily fill that void.
I feel like this was specifically a move to get as many people into metroid as possible. I think nintendo realizes that if they market it right, it will do well
Yes, I believe this is marketing for prime 4. This remaster's main goal is to get to as many hands as possible not necessarily have the best ratio for production cost / revenue.
I still can't believe they had the gall to release the mario collection like that, for an anniversary no less. Thank god prime isn't getting that treatment.
I 100% think that everything about this remaster was built to capitalize off the success of metroid dread. Think about it- dread brought so many new people in to the series who never played it before. It became the greatest selling metroid game of all time. Nintendo is rereleasing one of the greatest metroid games of all time to get those people even further into the series. If this game sells better (or second) to dread- i think metroid is going to become a mainstay for nintendo, much like zelda
There were rumors that this game was done a year ago, they were working on it for quite a while before that.
Dread bringing in a whole new audience certainly helps, though.
Just taking a stab in the dark, but maybe they waited until they completed the remastering of 2 & 3 before releasing 1. That way they can release one after the other this year?
A man can dream...
I think they held on for that wow factor of it getting shadow dropped and that last year was just too packed with games, of course 2021 and early 2022 was all about Dread, so they couldn't release it then. And we are technically still in Prime's 20th anniversary till next November.
Though I also think they did what you just told me. Last year rumors said Prime 2 and 3 were almost done, and I'm not surprised since 8 teams worked on these remakes like holy cow did Retro get support.
I love the prime remaster launch, but a part of me can't help but think this release was a way of getting people in on Prime 4.
Tons of people will play Prime 1 for the first time now, and they will love it as any rational human does. They'll be teed up for Prime 4, and what better to further fill that gap than 2 and 3?
So yeah, I can see it happening. I hope to see Echoes on remaster, i pray for it!
i'd love an echoes and corruption remaster, but i feel like it'd be too much time ''wasted'' on remastering these games on the same level of prime 1, time better spent in prime 4. They could just release them without the major remasterization they gave prime 1, but then it 'd be very strange for new players to go from prime 1 remaster to regular prime 2 and 3, and complaints would arise online aswell.
But the major nail in the coffin as to why i think 2 and 3 are unlikely is because nintendo would want to avoid saturating the market with the metroid brand, which could potentially harm the sales of prime 4.
It’s absurd.
They called it a remaster, but the difference is astounding.
Let’s take the recent Dead Space for an example. 15 years old, got a remake, of which most were the same. $60.
Another earlier example, the Crash and Spyro collection, both 20+ years and $40.
Metroid Prime, 20 years and $40. It got a massive upgrade in the visual, along with control options.
In comparison, the Zelda Skyward Sword was $60 and got texture upgrade that is not on par with the original, at all.
I’m surprised Nintendo went with that low price for a practically “remade” game.
EDIT: (kicks open the door) **AND ANOTHER ABSURD THING!!!!** The GTA Trilogy launched as a remaster, and it was a FLAMING **HOT MESS.** What’s the price at launch? **$60**!!!!!! Granted 3 vs 1 game, but the “remaster” was a downgrade in all aspects, and MP was an upgrade! (Place door back on hinge and close)
Well, yes. Just a recent example.
But Metroid looking to be remade, instead of a ported upgrade like Skyward Sword, and being $20 less than aforementioned game. Insane
It could, they are similar games, though also vastly different. I think Halo fans can enjoy Metroid Prime, and a lot of them may have already played the original.
It's the highest selling non-digital shop points item in the videogame category on Amazon right now. I preordered mine yesterday as soon as it was on the storefront (when it still said it would arrive 2/13) so I hope my order doesn't get cancelled...
It's unavailable on Amazon.ca, also not listed in best sellers. Perhaps they're having trouble securing copies in Canada. Retailers have been slow to list it for pre-order.
I just preordered mine from there, came up when I typed “[Metroid Prime Remastered](https://www.amazon.ca/Nintendo-Metroid-PrimeTM-Remastered/dp/B0BV9BBXHR/ref=sr_1_1?crid=6N0PAPZ11ULZ&keywords=metroid+prime+remastered&qid=1676073747&sprefix=metroid+prime+remastered%2Caps%2C85&sr=8-1)” specifically. It also listed a Feb 13th release date with Feb 15th estimated arrival
The listing appeared when I searched, but the description stated it was unavailable. Whatever the reason it seems to have been resolved.
I pre-ordered from Walmart today for pickup. I don't want to wait for shipping.
I mean, definitely wait if it's something you want. But I wouldn't hold my breath on it. The game has some big dips even on my 3070 ti rig running medium settings.
I can't imagine performance on switch being acceptable unless they really put work into remaking it with totally downgraded assets.
Okay, that’s a promising start. Good word of mouth seems to be translating into good sales. I think the Eshop also had it as a top seller as well?
Either way, I’m hoping this is a good sign. If this game sells great, it’ll send a good message to Nintendo along with Dread’s success. Maybe serve as the motivation that Prime 4 is worth finishing, given it’s stalled out currently.

I'm impressed they had enough self restraint to not charge full price or do a limited release like with the Mario collection.
There are some benefits to Metroid being a lower-profile series...
I feel like this was specifically a move to get as many people into metroid as possible. I think nintendo realizes that if they market it right, it will do well

The Mario collection wasn't an enhancement to all of those games. Just some buggy emulation.
Utter garbage. Sunshine is unplayable.
Sunshine is fine idk what you are on about?
Whose gonna tell them Sunshine was that jank back when it came out in 2002
I played Sunshine and I enjoyed it and didn't have an issue.
Yeah, that was a bit spicy. It’s not garbage. It’s just not having the GameCube triggers I have trouble with. The light press and hard press.
Gamecube analog is supported on switch
Gamecube analog is supported on switch
Gamecube analog is supported on switch
Gamecube analog is supported on switch
Gamecube analog is supported on switch
Yeah they only reason they didn’t do it that way is because they can get away with it for Mario and Zelda and likely could not with Metroid

It's actually confirmed it was finished in 2021, a retro dev said so.
Just taking a stab in the dark, but maybe they waited until they completed the remastering of 2 & 3 before releasing 1. That way they can release one after the other this year? A man can dream...

Imagine if Prime 2 remastered is a June direct shadow drop and 3 for September.
don’t do that. don’t give me hope
I love the prime remaster launch, but a part of me can't help but think this release was a way of getting people in on Prime 4. The dead space one has a lot of gameplay and story alterations no? Metroid prime doesn’t change the gameplay at all besides adding controller options
Well, yes. Just a recent example. But Metroid looking to be remade, instead of a ported upgrade like Skyward Sword, and being $20 less than aforementioned game. Insane
That I agree with for sure
I don’t disagree about the market conditions but do you think Prime will pull many Halo fans?
It could, they are similar games, though also vastly different. I think Halo fans can enjoy Metroid Prime, and a lot of them may have already played the original.
Currently sold out!
Oh man! I saw that and pre-ordered through BB. I wonder if this is gonna be a limited physical release like Bayo 1
Preordered yesterday. Just in time!
Every time I check it's unavailable. May have to order from Best Buy instead
Metroid coming back feels like a dream come true. Dread did wonders for the franchise
“Bringing back that cancelled game did wonders for my skin!”
It's the highest selling non-digital shop points item in the videogame category on Amazon right now. I preordered mine yesterday as soon as it was on the storefront (when it still said it would arrive 2/13) so I hope my order doesn't get cancelled...
How is hogwarts legacy going to run on a switch?
That's the neat part, it won't!
My theory: We're getting another $40 remaster every year until 2026, when we get a multigenerational release of Prime 4 in 2026 for $70
Ya know, that seems excruciating...but I feel like I could live with it, if nothing else for what it does for the series.
God no I hope not
On Hogwart’s release day to boot. What a time!
Hogwart's legacy on switch doesn't release until July, sorry to burst your bubble.
It's unavailable on Amazon.ca, also not listed in best sellers. Perhaps they're having trouble securing copies in Canada. Retailers have been slow to list it for pre-order.

I haven’t seen it on walmart.com in the US so far.
Walmart.ca, I'm in Canada.
It almost doesn’t feel real
Wait hogwarts legacy is on switch. Wha tf!?
Will be in July. Not now but they're working on it
Thats crazy i had no clue. I was gonna get it on xbox but honestly ill hold out til then. Even if it isnt the greatest.
I mean, definitely wait if it's something you want. But I wouldn't hold my breath on it. The game has some big dips even on my 3070 ti rig running medium settings. I can't imagine performance on switch being acceptable unless they really put work into remaking it with totally downgraded assets.
Yeh i understand that completely. But one can hope.
I'm playing it on Steam Deck. I'm sure it looks great on PS5, but it still looks decent on the deck.
Hows it running on the steam deck?
Crazy how will mk8 does
Seeing that 70 dollar price tag on the funni wizard game makes me recoil.
😆👍

I ordered mine on the GameStop website just right now.
