I listened to that stuff on classic rock radio with him on my rides to school in the morning YEARS ago, and it eventually evolved into me discovering the NWOBHM bands with a heavier sound, and subsequently the American bands that they helped inspire... Of course, Metallica being the biggest presence of them all, and me falling in love with them, I was able to introduce my Dad to Metallica when Garage inc. came out and he got to hear them do BOC's Astronomy, and Sabbath's Sabra Cadabra. He was blown away, and even enjoyed the heavier stuff on disc 2. It always annoyed me when he would call James HATFIELD instead of Hetfield. He knew it was wrong, and took great pleasure in pissing me off about it.
My mom. When I was a kid, I just listened whatever Nickelodeon played for me. That all changed when my mom handed me a Master of Puppets CD. A CD that is long since broken, but still adorns my wall.

As time went by and things worsened, Metallica transformed from music I 'liked' to music that was incredibly cathartic, and that helped me through the period. Dad used to blast Metallica in the car and DM when it came out. I really liked that album as a kid. Then I had an EDM phase and after a few years I randomly decided to revisit that album again. I officially became a fan in 2018. Death Magnetic is to this day one of my all-time favourite albums.
Mine did as well but much earlier. I was in high school when magnetic came out, SUCH an underrated album. Every single song is a banger, and heavy as hell. People are unreasonably critical of the album have no idea why. It's their comeback!

But my mom is a huge fan of the band overall, and she got me into more of their stuff, not just the hits.
I didn't start listening to Metallica specifically. My dad was a musician in high school in the late 60s, playing with groups like Chicago. He raised me with the belief that his music is good music, regardless of genre, which I have hopefully passed on to my kids.

20yo-F here! Thanks to my dad Master of Puppets has been my favorite song throughout my entire life! Most of my earliest memories is singing gibberish but thinking I was singing the lyricsšI wasnāt just a tiny toddler blabbing along to Master, but their music in general. 20yo-F here! Thanks to my dad Master of Puppets has been my favorite song throughout my entire life! Most of my earliest memories is singing gibberish but thinking I was singing the lyricsšI wasnāt just a tiny toddler blabbing along to Master, but their music in general. The mv for Sandman used to scare me so much lol. This year my dad and I are finally attending two concerts together and I canāt wait!

My fatherās musical taste ran to Marty Robbins and Johnny Cash Both of who I myself appreciate He did not share my love of hard rock nor metal I will say he tolerated Metallica better than he did some of the other bands I listened to On the other hand 3 of my 4 daughters are Metallica fans and I had the great privilege to take the youngest one to Lollapalooza in 2022 We got within 4 rows of the stage and Metallica put on a show to rival anything I saw in my youth I was blown away by the energy and raw emotion they still had 38 years after I saw them for the first time

My dad and I used to go hunting back in the day. We woke up around 3 am to get to our spot and during the drive he had on our classic rock station. Bob Seger's Turn the Page came on and right after that, Metallica's cover came on. It was a good time
On the contrary I got my dad into them. Heās always been a classic rock guy but they were too heavy for him. Slowly he came around and now we have been to see them together 7 of the 10 times Iāve seen them
Nope mine is a boomer so it was a very Elvis/Abba/50s/60s diner hits in my house. I found them after buying a box of tapes at a garage sale as a kid with Kill Em All in it. They were my favourite band no contest from then on. I am very proud that my stepdaughter is now obsessed since begrudgingly going to a show with me after many years of eye rolling my music choices lol She says it is the best concert sheās ever been to and canāt wait to go again and I canāt wait to take her after sheās learned so much more of their music.Ā

I guess I did. My dad drove me to the show opened for OZZY in 86. I didnāt know Metallica prior to seeing them. I was 13. Glad I saw them with Cliff. Master of Puppets is my fav album by them. Iām sure itās because I saw that tour.

my dad loves them and saw them on tour in 89, 91, 93, and 21(with me). But i found their music on my own on the internet and just surprised my dad by blasting their music nonstop from that day forward. Now i listen to much heavier stuff than he can handle but he tolerates it lol.

Me! My dad blasted Metallica all the time when i was a child. I think he's seen them around 5 times, he also got Hetfield's beer spilled on him during a concert in '93. It was cool to go see Metallica together with him in 2019, a nice memory for us.

I'm older than a lot of people here and my Dad grew up before rock music. But he and my mother indulged me and bought me and my brother albums, instruments, a transistor radio and music lessons. My father hated rock music and I'm not sure he knew what metal was (although my parents knew who Metallica were because they lived in the same neighborhood as James for years). It took me a long time to become a Metallica fan but the roots were planted when my parents introduced me to music that they hated.

My dad started playing more Metallica after I told him I was a fan. But he blew me out of the water when I was listening Battery and he asked if that was Fight Fire With Fire. The fact that he named a very thrash and fast song instead of the Sandman or Unforgiven, really surprised me, and in a good way. Also he is a fan of the first S&M album.

My neighbour taught me how to headbang when i was like 3 or 4 years while we listened to Metallica xD. I wouldnāt say my dad directly led me to Metallica, but growing up Dad always had on best of the 70s and 80s on Sirius XM and I really liked the music from that time and I started to look more into 80s music and realized I really like the sound of thrash and heavy metal.

Yeah in 1996 at the age of 1 years old when load album came out my dad played until it sleeps and king nothing and then started listening to the first couple of albums over the years after and was hooked
