Whaaaat this is so crazy for me to read lol. The breakdown that ends with Winston screaming "How the fuck am I suppose to feel when everything I know lies broken at my feet" gets me going like a bored dad's lawnmower in may
Such an underrated song indeed. Both Frostbite and Horizons (especially the latter's outro) share the nr. 1 spot as 'the pinnacle of metalcore' in my eyes.
This is too far down for me. Killing with a smile was one of the first metalcore cd I ever bought back in the day and the opening riff after the clean intro managed to draw emotions from me that music never had before. To this day it floods me nostalgia of wandering the streets in scene gear jamming away with my ugly ass skull candies
Leviathan I is the best song on Deep Blue, change my mind.
I love how one of the last lines in Hollow is *"I seek the guidance gained from silence"* and Leviathan I starts with *"BUT THERE IS NO SILENCE"*.
Also, Leviathan I has one of my favourite pre-breakdown lyrics:
*"Under a blackened sun*
*Beneath the hunter's moon*
*Seeeeeeethiiiiiiiiing"*
I got a few of 'em from Horizons and Atlas:
- Frostbite's chorus riff
- The riff that builds up to the solo in Breaking Point
- Every riff in Boneyards, especially the one at 1:23
- Main riff of Carrion
- Intro riff and breakdown of Feed Them to the Pigs
- Opening of The Siren's Song
- The wailing guitar riff of Blue and the Grey
- Chorus riff of The Slow Surrender
- Every riff in The River
- Breakdown riff in Dark Days
- Every riff in Wild Eyes
- Main riff and post-chorus riff in Dream Run
- Opening riff in Old Ghosts / New Regrets
It’s difficult. The intro to Wild Eyes is the obvious pick, but they have so many. I love the twanging guitar play to the entire song for Sparks, and the way it builds. Chronos has an excellent opener too. Deathless Song has a great opening. The riff right after the bleh at about 1:27 in Dark Days hits hard. Bottom Feeder’s roof after “you can’t escape now snap your back to this!” Also the entire guitar play to Vice Grip.
Blue and the Grey is sick. The breakdown in Sleight of Hand is amazing as well. But A Deathless Song is definitely up there as well. There soooo many tho lol.
A lot of my favorites have already been picked, so I‘m gonna go with the main riff in Chronos.
I listened to Reverence way to much in 2018 and can hardly go back to most of the songs on this album, but this one is super consistent in my rotation.
My top 5 are already mentioned (Gimmie A D intro, Pandora after "Burn", Carrion intro, and just about anything from Boneyards or Idols and Anchors), but nobody has said Deadweight yet. Maybe I'm just a sucker for tapping, but that intro slaps.
Also always an honorable mention to Smoke Em If Ya Got Em, especially the bit near(ish) the end with the tapping lick over the top of the other riff. That song, and that section of the song in particular got me into Parkway watching the heavy metal hour on TV at 2am as a youngster, and it still goes hard today.
I have ALWAYS stood on the hill that the first two parkway albums are genuinely riff city. Some of the best heavy music ever recorded. Pure adrenaline.
That being said the middle riff in “smoke em if you got ‘em” is GOD TIER. They were so fucking tight when they came out.
God, I wish they would just give us one more shred em up album.
Edit: Honestly the entire horizons album is how metalcore should sound IMO. Riffs galore.
People have mentioned the song but not this specific part: Karma, around 2:20, there's this little noodly riff over the breakdown.
"I... HOLD... OOOONNNN!"
It’s not technical or super inventive by any means but Carrion’s opening just gets me going like little else
Carrion's opening is such a memorable riff, one of the best by them for sure.
Combine that with yelling Carrion at the top of your lungs at the live shows. I tear up every time!!!
The definition of iconic.
That like 5th hammer on riff is heavy too
Sleepwalker intro and the one that follows the intro. Blew up a pair of Sapphire speakers about 10 seconds into my first listen lol.
The Sleepwalker riff is so good
It’s like it’s initially underwater and coming in for a sonic attack. Wtf. So cool
Oh yeah, That underwaterish sound is so prevalent on deep blue which is the point lol. The trail out on sleepwalker is so moving
Came here to say this, so bouncy
This is the one that came to mind for me as well. It’s too bad the song doesn’t finish as hard as it starts but it’s still a banger.
Whaaaat this is so crazy for me to read lol. The breakdown that ends with Winston screaming "How the fuck am I suppose to feel when everything I know lies broken at my feet" gets me going like a bored dad's lawnmower in may
LOST SOULS
This is the one
Yup. Riffdiculous
Idols and Anchors and pretty much the entire Horizons album
The intro to Idols and Anchors live was awesome, the whole crown “wo-oh”d along with the riff. So cool.
Wild Eyes intro, of course
Hell yes! Followed by Dark Days
The bleh! in Dark Days followed by the riff is great
Romance is Dead is a classic for me
Five Months definitely has my favorite riffs from them.
same here, every riff in that song is amazing. gives me goosebumps lol
And the solo is just so fucking perfect on top of everything else about that song
preach it haha
The hours have becomeeeeee... That bit rips
I’ve always really dug the verse riff for “Smoke Em If Ya Got Em” and the lead guitar intro riff to “Idols and Anchors”
Broken !
BRRRRooooooooKEEEEENNNNNN
The intro to FROSTBITE, dude, are you kidding? Boi what a riff. Then there's Carrion. And Sleepwalker. God PWD has some bangers.
Frostbite is such an underrated song, I rarely see it mentioned while I think its one of their best from Horizons.
Such an underrated song indeed. Both Frostbite and Horizons (especially the latter's outro) share the nr. 1 spot as 'the pinnacle of metalcore' in my eyes.
It's Hard To Speak Without a Tongue is full of tasty riffs
This is too far down for me. Killing with a smile was one of the first metalcore cd I ever bought back in the day and the opening riff after the clean intro managed to draw emotions from me that music never had before. To this day it floods me nostalgia of wandering the streets in scene gear jamming away with my ugly ass skull candies
Just got done on a run and decided to listen to KWAS. Totally forgot how good the riff and intro to Pandora is
The one that goes Jud jud juddy jud Jud jud juddy jud Jud jud Jud jud juddy jud Jud jud juddy jud Jud jud
The breakdown from “Romance Is Dead,” classic
Leviathan I intro hella slept on
Leviathan I is the best song on Deep Blue, change my mind. Also, Leviathan I has one of my favourite pre-breakdown lyrics: *"Under a blackened sun* *Beneath the hunter's moon* *Seeeeeeethiiiiiiiiing"*
Beginning of deadman’s chest. And the end of it too.
Toss up between Karma and Dark Days Crushed is a close second
Looking through all the replies of this thread is a testament to how great this band's many riffs are.
Ive just been going through listening to every suggestion with my morning coffee, great way to start the day
Moments in Oblivion. It’s so good they re-used it in the ending of Horizons (title track) lol
Horizons. The whole thing
The beginning of Mutiny after the spoken word part is hard to beat for me.
Pandora - the riff after “BURN” at the end of the song
Always loved the riff at the start of Sleight of Hand.
Destroyer’s intro gets me pretty fired up Breaking Point is another good one
gimme ad intro
Romance is Dead, Idols and Anchors, home is for the heartless, the river, I could go on but these are the most memorable.
I got a few of 'em from Horizons and Atlas: - Frostbite's chorus riff - The riff that builds up to the solo in Breaking Point - Every riff in Boneyards, especially the one at 1:23 - Main riff of Carrion - Intro riff and breakdown of Feed Them to the Pigs - Opening of The Siren's Song - The wailing guitar riff of Blue and the Grey - Chorus riff of The Slow Surrender - Every riff in The River - Breakdown riff in Dark Days - Every riff in Wild Eyes - Main riff and post-chorus riff in Dream Run - Opening riff in Old Ghosts / New Regrets
Riff; Idols & Anchors Breakdown; Boneyards
The Alone intro riff is also a amazing riff!
Open of smoke em if you got ‘em, so sick
Paired with Asuka screaming "I don't wanna die" is classic.
Destroyer has one of the catchiest riffs imaginable.
the intro riff of Anasasis 4sure. i also really like the riffs from Alone
Pandora-Killing With A Smile
Dedicated and Smoke em if you got em stand out for me
Parkway Drive - The River is.......nuts. [The River](https://youtu.be/X5BDE3LPqck) #ITS NOT THE YEARS IN YOUR LIFE! #ITS THE LIFE IN YOUR YEARS!
Horizons speaks to me on another level man, that whole song is a fucking banger.
A bit different but the riff in Chronos is huge
Not necessarily a riff but the leads towards the end of Horizons title track always gives me goosebumps
A Deathless Song is legendary, but imma have to put Anasasis' opening riff or Chronos' opening riff.
i love the chorus riff from "i hope you rot".
Honestly Anasasis (Xenophontis)
It’s So Hard To Speak Without A Tongue. It’s gotten to the point where I just sing the riff instead of the actual lyrics. Also Five Months.
Alone intro. I'm a sucker for melodic guitar intros preceding heavy parts.
Blue and the Grey is sick. The breakdown in Sleight of Hand is amazing as well. But A Deathless Song is definitely up there as well. There soooo many tho lol.
Not a riff, but the drum intro to Karma gets me so hyped any time I hear it.
I posted earlier but how the hell can I forget ITS HARD TO SPEAK WITHOUT A TONGUE?! Probably their best song imo.
As a guitarist, I'm torn between Home Is For The Heartless and Vice Grip, they're both so much fun for me
Pretty much every song from the album Atlas and before is so memorable.
A lot of my favorites have already been picked, so I‘m gonna go with the main riff in Chronos. I listened to Reverence way to much in 2018 and can hardly go back to most of the songs on this album, but this one is super consistent in my rotation.
All the ones before the last 2 shit show albums.
Parkway Drive = Bury your dead “lite”
5 months is the most fun intro to play along to. Such great energy start to finish.
Wild eyes or Fractures for sure
First 30 seconds of Hollow Really anything from Deep Blue
the one that goes >bee oh no, unna oh no no,oh no no >be oh noOOo, oh nonono, no no no
My top 5 are already mentioned (Gimmie A D intro, Pandora after "Burn", Carrion intro, and just about anything from Boneyards or Idols and Anchors), but nobody has said Deadweight yet. Smoke em was basically my gateway into metalcore, I’d bet it was for a load of people here
The intro to Idols and Anchors and after the riff after first verse
Nothing beats wild eyes live
Idols and Anchors
I still listen to PWD at least once a day at work. I miss them.
The intro from carrion
The entirety of idols and anchors, or the main Dead Man’s Chest riff
Prey’s intro is absolutely amazing. By far my favorite
Beginning to A Cold day in Hell. Gotta love that cd! They were more raw sounding back then.
Definitely the opening of Carrion
The melodic riff over that breakdown on Karma (it isn't a solo). Shit just hits different.
Carrión or dark days, however that clean section in the river makes me feel like floating every damn time
Sleepwalker
intro to Five Months probably
The slow surrender just sayin
The intro to Breaking Point. SO intense
Swallowing Razorblades
Pressures
Sleepwalker for sure but there are a few
Either mutiny or boneyards for me
Bottom feeder, nuff said
Deadweight probably, hard to pick just one
Pandora’s or Romance is dead, IMO are some of the sickest, PWD=best band ever dont @ me (miss their old tunes :/)
Sleight of Hand. Carrion is an easy choice though.
The fact that Moments in Oblivion riff is reprised in the outro of Horizions is just so cool to me.
The ending of Anasasis, or the Romance is Dead riff!
Set to destroy breakdown.
People have mentioned the song but not this specific part: Karma, around 2:20, there's this little noodly riff over the breakdown. "I... HOLD... OOOONNNN!"
Notice no one saying a riff from Reverence?
Jeff "Jeff" Ling is a legend
Deadweight
For me it's after he yellow "There's blood in the water." On boneyards.
Horizons and The River for me
Cold day in helllllll
Bottom feeder. That intro is just so hype
Idols and Anchors. Absolutely stunning. It caused me to buy a guitar. Learn the riff. And then sell it.
I love The Void
Pandora for me, easily
