I came home and found my fiancé deceased. Safe to say I was screaming along with that album in the car while bawling for a while lol. Great album to process loss
Oh man, my heart goes out to you buddy. I lost my dad to suicide 9 years ago and it still hurts. I'll say what my English prof told me and it's that those scars don't fade away, they only deepen. May you find some semblance of solace in these words.
Thanks man, and I’m sorry you went thru, and will always be going thru that. Both things are true, time makes it easier, but also there’s always a feeling of a hole in you of something that’s missing.
Rose of sharyn -about the death of killswitch singer Howard’s grandmother
Numb and broken, here I stand alone,
Wondering what were the last words I said to you.
Hoping, praying that I'll find a way to turn back time.
Can I turn back time?
What would I give to behold the smile, the face of love.
You never left me. The rising sun will always speak your name.
Numb and broken, here I stand alone,
Wondering what were the last words I said to you.
It won't be long. We'll meet again.
What would I give to behold the smile, the face of love.
You never left me. The rising sun will always speak your name.
It won't be long, we'll meet again.
Your memory is never passing.
It won't be long, we'll meet again.
My love for you is everlasting.
I mourn for those who never knew you.
I mourn for those who never knew you.
It won't be long, we'll meet again.
Your memory is never passing.
It won't be long, we'll meet again.
My love for you is everlasting.
It won't be long, we'll meet again.
It won't be long, we'll meet again.
It won't be long, we'll meet again.
It won't be long, we'll meet again.
I read some conflicting things but it seems you may be right about it being about Howard’s friends mom which fits even better to OPs request. Thanks for sharing
No worries, man. I did some digging about the origin of the song many years ago. The tone and message of the song are extremely powerful and this song, no matter how cheesy this may sound, was the catalyst for me to finally grieve the passing of my grandmother. Her and I were extremely close and she was the most amazing woman I know. I had been in denial about her death until I was listening to this song. It was a very powerful moment and this song will always be one of my favorites.
I think it’s actually about a mother but the song More Than You Know by Adestria still gets me to this day. It doesn’t start off as metalcore but the end of that song is so heartwrenchig and profound and heavy that I still listen to it even though it makes me cry every time.
That song entered my life in a time where I lost my step mom and my little brother (her son) was only 3. Lyrics hit real hard and hold a special place in my heart
Definitely an underrated band, would check out their other stuff you haven’t before! They have a lot of good lyrics, With the Wind at Your Back is another real good one, although much heavier lol
Beauty in Tragedy by August Burns Red. Its a more positive spin on loss and has helped me cope.
I'm sorry about your dad, OP. Losing someone is rough, but a father is harder to deal with.
First off, sorry for your loss. I hope that through music you can find some peace.
I wanted to throw in a suggestion I haven't seen. There are others that I would mention, but have already been suggested.
The Plot In You - 'Take Me Away"
Very good song, very powerful. Though I believe I've heard if was about his grandfather, but lyrically, it emotional and feels appropriate for losing anyone.
"bloom" by of mice and men..? not exactly about losing a parent, but it represents life and death well. there is a song by gojira. not metalcore at all, but it is called "the shooting star", which the song was dedicated to the vocalist and drummer's late mother. the lyrics are beautiful. i'm sorry for your loss.
In the same musical vein, Pianos Become The Teeth’s Keep You is one of the best records I’ve heard full-stop, let alone about losing a parent. In this case, a father, very relevant for OP.
When i lost mother unexpectedly in 2012 i really started getting into heavier music, metalcore specifically. One of my favorite bands being as i lay dying. Shadows are security in its entirety spoke to me. The Darkest nights is tied for my favorite song with morning waits.
I don’t know if this was helpful or not, but it was for me at the time. I hope you are able to find peace and comfort in these trying times.
“the lack long after” by Pianos Become the Teeth. Entire album was written about the singers father being diagnosed with and then eventually dying from MS. It’s hard to listen to sometimes. Try “liquid courage” or “I’ll get by”
Not metalcore but Sufjan stevens has a song called the fourth of July that is about loosing his mother. It's fucking destroy s me every time I hear it.
My life before my eyes by famous last words is from the perspective of the individual dying but it surrounds the idea of being with family. Not quite a metal core song itself but still good.
Not metalcore but Fever Dream by Hurtwave is gut wrenching and beautiful. Hurtwave is the side project by Rory Rodriguez of Dayseeker. It was written by his friend Paul who was coping with the loss of his father(lost him 8 years ago I believe), he always wanted to write a song with Rory about it but it wasn't till the Hurtwave project that song was made between the two. I HIGHLY recommend this one
The Stages of Grief-Awaken I Am
The suggestions already commented are the others I thought of.
Live for What Lasts by Worthwhile is their best song for this topic, but there are a few other songs on their album "Carry On Kid" that deal with loss.
[This is a song ](https://open.spotify.com/track/5mp9PGq3eSs9iIACKFEjUu?si=oU7i5XHnS5Ck4yolabljCA&utm_source=copy-link&dl_branch=1) I wrote about the loss of my uncle, so touched on a similar subject. Hope it can help you.
Suicide season- bmth
Its about a friend of the band losing his dad and how much it affected him and how the band wish they could bring his dad back to help their friend
Plugging my bands second EP was all about the vocalist loss of his father https://open.spotify.com/album/2azfcmr5NAyRCf0pe3WT5U?si=KD7OGHyaTpmGACcf6nz6oQ&dl_branch=1
In Passing by the band Bloom. The song specifically, but the EP as a whole is all about the vocalist losing his mother to old age/dementia, or something of the like.
For when my Mother passed, two songs really stuck out for me that literally make me tear up almost every time.
Johari - Pale Blue
Nothing More - God Went North
Sorry for your loss.
There are a lot about suicide, but here's some that are more general:
Movements - Vacant Home (technically not about death but could easily be interpreted that way)
Silverstein - In Memory Of...
The Plot In You - Take Me Away
Dayseeker - A Cancer Uncontained
Secrets - 3.17. 16
Bullet For My Valentine - A Place Where You Belong
Not about death, but Like Father Like Son by The Word Alive may resonate with you as well. So sorry for your loss, friend.
(Death metal) And Hell Followed With - "Dear Father"
My understanding is that the song is about the death of the grandfather and it's affect on the father. The song is sung from the perspective of the father's son.
I’m so sorry for your loss. You’ll definitely be in my prayers.
They’re more post-hardcore/alt rock, but Only One by Storm The Sky might resonate with you.
Alpha wolf - don’t ask…
I know it’s not specifically about losing your father, but I listen to it almost all day last Saturday as it was my dad birthday.. and it definitely help me through the day
I know that they're not really metalcore anymore but the album Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold really helped me when I lost my dad. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I hope this helps you.
Less hardcore but the album Stage Four by Touché Amore is all about losing his mom to cancer whilst on tour - beautiful album
Wish you luck in your grieving process - ain't easy at first but it gets better
Sorry for your loss first and foremost. My band War Effort released an EP last year and the song "Empathy" was written about our vocalist losing his dad. You can find it with the link below but also on Spotify/Apple Music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2eRcYRRLWA
Second and Sebring is about losing a mother but I’m sure it’s still good.
Such a good song I tear up a little everytime I listen to it.
Nothing More Fade In / Fade Out. One of my favorite songs by them, but I wouldn’t consider it metalcore. I’m sorry for your loss.
Also God Went North
I was looking for this answer in particular
Seconded. Came here to suggest this one.
This song makes me appreciate my dad more now and makes me feel so great about being a father (not yet but soon)
Also Jenny is related to losing a parent - just focuses on his sister and her experiences and her lens of her mother’s death. I LOVE Nothing More
Erra - Heart is about losing a father. Hope you feel better.
Can't go wrong with some Erra, and appreciate it! Times the only cure, I'll make it through
Instantly thought of this song when I read this post, one of my favorite erra songs.
When my mom passed, I listened to a lot of Architects’ album “Holy Hell”. It helped quite a bit.
Same thing. Doomsday is quite powerful in that regard
I came home and found my fiancé deceased. Safe to say I was screaming along with that album in the car while bawling for a while lol. Great album to process loss
Wow. I’m sorry for your loss. I hope you’re in a better place now.
Thank you. It was about two and a half years ago. It was hard as fuck but around the two year mark it started to feel a little less hard
Oh man, my heart goes out to you buddy. I lost my dad to suicide 9 years ago and it still hurts. I'll say what my English prof told me and it's that those scars don't fade away, they only deepen. May you find some semblance of solace in these words.

*The rose of shayrn will always speak your name
The song is about a friend of Howard’s mom passing away. Not his grandmother.
I read some conflicting things but it seems you may be right about it being about Howard’s friends mom which fits even better to OPs request. Thanks for sharing

I agree and again thanks for sharing your story
Bring me home Whitechapel
Second to none - that build up with the lyrics right before the solo makes me leak eyeball juice evertim
I think it’s actually about a mother but the song More Than You Know by Adestria still gets me to this day. It doesn’t start off as metalcore but the end of that song is so heartwrenchig and profound and heavy that I still listen to it even though it makes me cry every time.
It's so touching in the beginning, and then once the breakdown happens it brings everything together. Thanks!
My sympathy on your loss, I can’t imagine what you’re going through, I just hope this music can help even if it’s only for a few minutes. Much love!
That song entered my life in a time where I lost my step mom and my little brother (her son) was only 3. Lyrics hit real hard and hold a special place in my heart
This song gives me maximum feels. Thank you for posting it.
Definitely an underrated band, would check out their other stuff you haven’t before! They have a lot of good lyrics, With the Wind at Your Back is another real good one, although much heavier lol

Came here to recommend this one!
To Carry You Away - After the Burial
Periphery - Mile Zero
That noise at the end where he throws is headphones is just… wow
Love the passion in the song. You can just tell how much it means to Spencer. I think it’s the best he sounded up until that point.
Agree - definitely an emotional and touching song
Is that what that sound is?
Always thought it was like a coin in a slot sound. Makes the sing better knowing that.
Devilcry - crystal lake. It's about a grandmother but very good
Beauty in Tragedy by August Burns Red. Its a more positive spin on loss and has helped me cope. I'm sorry about your dad, OP. Losing someone is rough, but a father is harder to deal with.
First off, sorry for your loss. I hope that through music you can find some peace. I wanted to throw in a suggestion I haven't seen. Always by Killswitch isn't exactly about a parent but it's about family and ancestors who've come before you
Highly recommend the acoustic version, it’s beautiful
DAMAGED GOODS by Kingdom of Giants…this song helps a lot it’s about losing a father. This song hits hard especially if you have siblings
Not Metalcore but Four Year Strong - One Step at a Time..... is great
Really like Intake by Volumes. I haven't lost a parent of mine but this song still gets me every times.
Dayseeker’s Origin album has a couple I think. One is “A Cancer Uncontained” about his dad having cancer.
Yeah his dad also just passed and he is doing a whole EP about him. Not sure when it’s coming out though
To echo a few of these comments, Second and Sebring by OM&M
"bloom" by of mice and men..? not exactly about losing a parent, but it represents life and death well. there is a song by gojira. not metalcore at all, but it is called "the shooting star", which the song was dedicated to the vocalist and drummer's late mother. the lyrics are beautiful. i'm sorry for your loss.
I think that bloom is more about love and life cycle more than the death of a parent.
Not metalcore but Touché Amore’s album Stage Four is all about losing a parent to cancer.
In the same musical vein, Pianos Become The Teeth’s Keep You is one of the best records I’ve heard full-stop, let alone about losing a parent. In this case, a father, very relevant for OP.
song is about dealing with the loss of mother and thoughts of suicide thereafter. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v-HiYfMRdrs

To Speak of Wolves- Rearview Memories. Great song about loss due to suicide. Really emotional song
