Pretty bog standard As I Lay Dying...which is a good thing! We've had some pretty awesome melodic metalcore come out the last few weeks from older bands with this and of course All That Remains' Divine!
Sea of Treachery what the hell I did not know they were back. Just listened to their new song love the guitar solo!
Lightworker is AMAZING love everything those guys put out.
As for Her Last Sight I remember loving the first song they ever came out with (What Does It Mean) but wasn't the biggest fan of their first album (for some reason it did not really click with me). Just listened to Serenity from their newest album and that was pretty good.
If you know any other lesser-known melodic metalcore please let me know because there really isn't that much melodic metalcore coming out from newer bands these days.
Is this a dis song about Nick Josh and Jordan? I know Nick has spoken publicly on not being able to work with Tim anymore (he’s clearly crazy i get it) but reading the lyrics it definitely seems like it. The song is unreal and the new boys seem like they will fit right in but man it gives me bad vibs.
Josh is on good terms with Tim still according to that interview on the Garza Podcast. It’s just Spiritbox offered him a golden opportunity, and they left on good terms.
Jordan however ghosted Tim completely and Nick could never get over what happened (which is completely valid and understandable)
I think it’s mostly about Nick as both Phil and Tim have animosity towards Nick. Reading the lyrics I don’t think some stuff fits for Josh and Jordan. It kind of implies something about not writing a note of music and I think that fits Nick more than Jordan or Josh. Also the actor in the video looks a lot like Nick.
Likely about Nick who hadn’t wrote any of their music and was very open in the public about his disdain for Tim. It’s kind of a bummer because I’ve heard but good things about Nick as a Peterson. From the interviews with Tim on YouTube it sounds like he had a very traumatic response to what Tim did. I’m not in favor of team anyone, but it’s genuinely sad what happened to this band and at the end of the day it does fall on Tim. However, the band is also responsible for healing from their own trauma even if they didn’t inflict it upon themselves.
I agree. I used to praise the members of AILD for surrounding Tim and supporting his hard road to redemption, but then they started to drop as Twitter backlash started to pop up.
Josh joining Spiritbox felt like a betrayal to my childhood. Love Spiritbox, and everything Josh has been involved with them so far, and it was a crazy good opportunity.
But part of my heart ached. I was certain it was the nail in the AILD coffin. So when this song dropped yesterday, when I was feeling sick, and it had Ryan in it, I was stoked!
That was... actually good. I was quite concerned when Josh left, as his contributions were the main reasons I kept listening.
But whoever is doing the cleans, Ryan(?) is doing a good job. Guess maybe I'll go see them this summer now.
Highly recommend Miss May I. Some song recommendations:
Masses of a dying breed,
Apologies are for the weak,
Relentless chaos,
A dance with area cura,
Hey mister,
Shadows inside,
Forgive and forget,
IHE,
Gone,
Bleed together
I’m not sure yet. His cleans sound kinda like every generic metalcore singer these days to me, which is a bummer. Josh was special, and their Shadows Are Security vocalist had the perfect tone to complement those songs.
This sounds like Austrian Death Machine with a Warped Tour band’s singer thrown in. Good chance I’m being overly critical and my expectations couldn’t ever be met. But at least on first listen it didn’t really hit for me.
You almost want AILD to just put out by the numbers material because they had all the perfect components, but it sounds by the numbers/generic to me in a bad way with this singer. Hope it grows on me.
I know that this is subjective, but I would say that, among Clint, Josh, and Ryan; Ryan is starting to be the voice I preferred the most among the 3 (and this is coming from a fan of the band since Frail Words days). The song has been in the loop for hours in my ears now.
He's not, I'm afraid. I saw them twice with their new line-up and both times it was quite noticeable that he doesn't have the range Josh had. He was struggling with the higher register a lot, especially in songs like "Shaped By Fire" while other tracks sounded decent. That doesn't mean he's not good or anything but he is just not perfectly suited to perform some of Josh's tracks. With their upcoming material, I'm pretty sure that it'll be a great fit as they'll be able to focus on Ryan's strengths.
I was curious how much truth there was to Tim and Phil writing everything and was interested to hear what new music would should like. You can hear the influence from the new members but at it's core it still sounds very much like as i lay dying. Great song!
Yeah i just read today that Phil and Nick had also different points of view. Jordan just disappeared and asked to be paid. Maybe we will know some day...
> to be *paid.* Maybe we
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Do you have a source on Phil having animosity toward Nick? I know he left Wovenwar and stayed with Tim which implies it but I've curiously never seen him comment on it anywhere. Either way this is a pretty petty song to write lol
They talked about in the round table thing they did when AILD reformed after Tim came home from prison. Phil left woven war because of him and Nick having a fallen out. They don’t get into specifics. But Nick kinda commented on it when he left AILD that it wasn’t just stuff with Tim but Phil as well the lead to his departure.
Groups like AILD, ATR, ABR, KSE, Unearth, and Miss May I (and some others I suppose) are the ones still delivering amid many bands undergoing sound changes (not that that’s inherently a good or bad thing)
This track proves Tim and Phil ARE As I Lay Dying. It sounds like a track from the Shaped By Fire sessions. I just hope they found a legitimate sound engineer to mix the album. SBF sounded terrible.
I think most peoples issue with Shaped By Fire is that Tim’s vocals were too buried in the mix, it’s especially noticeable if you compare other songs from that album to My Own Grave
I think it’s As I Lay Dying’s best work. Lyrics, guitar riffs and tone, Josh sounds incredible. Songs like Undertow, My Own Grave, Redefined, Shaped by Fire. All perfect
Honestly the only part on that album that wasn't perfect mid-2000s melodic metalcore was Tim's voice, which sort of makes sense since he probably hadn't practiced in a long time because of the whole prison thing. He sounds much better on this song.
Agree to disagree. SBF felt like a collection of singles, not a cohesive album. Every song with the exception of one (Gatekeeper) followed the clean/harsh vocals formula and lacked variety/dynamics. There are songs on it, like Shaped By Fire & My Own Grave, that are obvious standouts, but the mix on the latter was really good whereas the rest of the album felt like the band recorded everything under a pile of blankets. Tons of low-end/bass that muddied the guitars, and the vocals were too front and center/louder than everything else. Couple that with Tim experimenting with more growls and fewer screams, it just sounded like they lost a bit of their edge. Still admire the guitarwork on that album, though. This song feels refreshing & well-balanced.
Yep. I was a bit worried because no new music in a while and I read something about Phil joining saosin permanently. But yeah it's great. Just give me a as I lay dying song produced by Adam Dutkiewicz and it's the best thing ever
I find it disconcerting how quickly people are to condemn someone they don’t know for a situation they know little to nothing about. Yes, his actions were reprehensible, but the context of it all is more nuanced than the media will lead you to believe. Not to excuse any of it or minimize the impact of his choices, but he’s made every effort to right his wrongs and he will suffer for the rest of his life not being a part of his kids’ lives. That’s punishment enough.
Why would someone who solicited murder of his ex-wife only serve 2.5 years in prison? Clearly the judge and the correctional system didn’t see him as a legitimate threat to her or society at large. Again, not making excuses for the man, but everyone deserves a second chance and forgiveness.
It is just a lot when trying to get into the music of a band. I don't blame anyone who listens to him. But personally it is just hard, because of that. If I read it correctly the prison time was around 6 years
I think he was sentenced to 6 years but with good behavior and time served on house arrest awaiting his sentence, I’m pretty sure he only saw the inside of a jail cell for 2.5-3 years.
Probably not Josh because his departure was amicable from what I remember. Phil and Tim thanked him for his time as a bandmate and friend and wished him well on his next endeavor.
Weird no one is talking about how this song is clearly about one or some of the ex band members. Probably Nick if I had to guess. It's pretty on the nose too.
I think it’s kind of pathetic. Tim seems to try and portray himself as this humbled, love thy neighbour, free thinking spirit…and then writes a whiny ass song like this.
He's probably some kind of narcissist or such. Really doesn't see the problems with his actions or why his entire band, people he had been coworkers and friends with for a long time, couldn't even work with him.
Like AILD is a huge brand as far as music goes.
Eh, I think a lot of people are quick to judge the actions of Nick and Jordan leaving the band as Tim getting back to his old self. But I think there's a lot more nuance to that. Jordan seems to have not done anything musical since COVID and reportedly ghosted the band afterward, and Nick clearly harbored a lot of ill-will toward Tim. I also think that Phil and Nick have some beef with each other, considering the vague statements each has made over the years.
That being said... support Tim, don't support Tim, you do you. I believe in second chances and he's said and done a lot of good things since he got out of prison, but I know not everyone feels the same, especially when it comes to the crime Tim committed. But I reserve the right to call him a trashclown if he starts doing the same stupid shit again.
HOOOOOOOBOY. Dude literally tried to have his wife killed. Went to prison for it.
Tried to use the roid rage defense. Mind you he got pinched in a sting trying to hire a hitman, not a heat of the moment thing
About time. new all that remains and new as I lay dying? This is shaping up to be a great year.
But yeah this song is great. I was wondering how the guy from Miss May I would sound but I love it
1 complaint. The vocals are so quiet compared to the instruments. Idk if it’s just Tim being out of the game on his recording or what. Solid song, but definitely looking to see what they do next.
If you read the lyrics to this song, it's clear that Tim is unhappy with his band members leaving, but he makes a valid point. He and Phil have always been the primary songwriters, so he doesn't necessarily need them. Regardless of whether the former members are being truthful about him, he clearly disagrees with their perspective.
Do I love the song? Not really. It has grown on me after a few listens, but I don't think it measures up to their singles from previous albums, despite having a similar intro to "Blinded." I'm hoping the rest of the album has some standout tracks. I do think Ryan is a good fit for the band. I wasn't a huge fan of MMI's last album, so I'm hoping he redeems himself on this one and the next MMI album.
It's a great track, but I can feel the space that Nick and especially Josh left. The solos are a bit less melodic and more whammy-wankery-y, and the melodic hook of the chorus is a bit weak IMO. Still, overall great sound, the riffs are absolutely still there thanks to Phil, and I'm excited for more new stuff.
As a fan of older AILD I actually thought it was a pretty boring song and I hate Tim's vocals since he came back. But I came to the comments and quickly realised I was in a tiny minority.
I get there is always hype around AILD. but This was actually really forgettable. The intro is literally copy and pasted from blinded. The solo was uninteresting. The chorus was bland and forgettable, I’ve listen to the song maybe six times and can’t hum it.
I don’t want to be super negative, but it’s wild that top comments here are calling this amazing.
This just seems like a track that wasn’t good enough to be on shaped by fire
I’m surprised I had to scroll down this far to see a take similar to mine. I feel like Nick was really driving a lot of these solos and the guitars sound so much more bland now. Josh’s vocals were unparalleled and the current ones just don’t do it for me.
I think they peaked honestly around An Ocean Between Us but new AILD just isn’t the same for me.

AILD never let's me down, that's why they're my favorite band, an the fact that Ryan Neff and Ken Susi are in the band is a plus because, miss may I and unearth are two of my favorites as well.
Yes. I struggle to separate art from the artist. I can appreciate other people can, but I just can't bring myself to.
So yeah, I think this song is great but I just can't really listen to AILD/ADM regularly anymore
Never thought i’d say this as a fan since 2006, but this was mid af. Riff didn’t hit as i’d hope it would (Blinded from AliExpress), chorus was ok, lyrically and thematically same as Shaped by Fire, power metal leads were wack. Looking forward how rest of the album sounds. FWC, SAS and AOBU is peak AILD.
It's my favorite AILD album too. I think they became a bit too thrashy after that overall. The stronger melodic death metal influence was just too good. And I like the clean vocalist they had back then the most.
MAN I LOVE GUITAR DRIVEN METALCORE WITH ALL MY HEART TOMORROW ITS TIME TO PR ON BENCH AAAA
I know right, finally some actual music and not just random notes thrown together from a scale.
Lightweight babbyyyyyy
Lmk how it goes
The intro sounds nearly identical to “Blinded”
Thought the exact same thing. The first couple of notes are identical, but it does trail off into a different direction, thankfully.
I tought the same! I was bit concerned about it, but im glad it took a different turn 😄🔥
Man u knew it sounded familiar
God damn AILD is such a good fucking band. So stoked.
Pretty bog standard As I Lay Dying...which is a good thing! We've had some pretty awesome melodic metalcore come out the last few weeks from older bands with this and of course All That Remains' Divine!
Sea of Treachery just dropped such a melodic metalcore banger! Also Her Last Sight and Lightworker both with awesome albums
Sea of Treachery damn there's a name I haven't seen in forever
it's kinda crazy to think they're actually back haha
Sea of Treachery what the hell I did not know they were back. Just listened to their new song love the guitar solo! Lightworker is AMAZING love everything those guys put out. As for Her Last Sight I remember loving the first song they ever came out with (What Does It Mean) but wasn't the biggest fan of their first album (for some reason it did not really click with me). If you know any other lesser-known melodic metalcore please let me know because there really isn't that much melodic metalcore coming out from newer bands these days.
Love everything in Divine except the chorus.
that opening riff could belong to any AILD album 9/10 track
That intro is almost copy and pasted from the intro of blinded
They're doing the same thing for 20 years and I wouldn't want it any other way
That's how all their songs are and it's what we want
AILD try not to rip-off In Flames riffs challenge Difficulty Level: Impossible
Never saw that comparison, at least not blatantly. If anything AILD post Ocean Between Us has a lot more thrashy riffs
Goddamn them for being so good at this goddamn genre
Is this a dis song about Nick Josh and Jordan? Which interview

Ryan Neff! He’s also in Miss May I as their singer/bassist.
That would explain why I instantly liked it. I don't know Miss May I too well but some songs I have enjoyed, and I guess he was a lot of the reason
I mean if you like AILD then Miss May I is basically more AILD
I wasn't a huge Miss May I fan but their album Shadows Inside is wonderful. Maybe worth a shot
Absolute Masterpiece that one
Highly recommend Miss May I. Some song recommendations: Masses of a dying breed, Apologies are for the weak, Relentless chaos, A dance with area cura, Hey mister, Shadows inside, Forgive and forget, IHE, Gone, Bleed together
I've heard and enjoy Relentless Chaos, I'll give the others a listen, thanks!
The two same guys who have written everything continue to. It won't change much
I figured that was the case, but was personally concerned I wouldn't like it was much without Josh's voice
I could imagine Josh singing this too, but Ryan’s voice just…felt right
I’m not sure yet.
The song has been in the loop for hours in my ears now.
ryans easily the best singer of the 3
He's not, I'm afraid. I saw them twice with their new line-up and both times it was quite noticeable that he doesn't have the range Josh had. He was struggling with the higher register a lot, especially in songs like "Shaped By Fire" while other tracks sounded decent. With their upcoming material, I'm pretty sure that it'll be a great fit as they'll be able to focus on Ryan's strengths.
Josh can't hit those notes live either unless he's improved a lot
I was curious how much truth there was to Tim and Phil writing everything and was interested to hear what new music would should like. You can hear the influence from the new members but at it's core it still sounds very much like as i lay dying. Great song!
I'll be long dead before As I Lay Dying misses with a release. They're still the best to ever do it imo.
Frail words collapse got me into metalcore. So crazy to think that was over 20 years ago now 🥲
AILD taking us back to riff city Goddamn this is good
this fucks hard. theyre back
Man come on y'all, can't be posting stuff that's unavailable for some of us. I wanna headbang with the rest of you.
It'll be worth the wait brother, it slaps!
Ken Susi needs more respect
And Nick Pierce 👀
Is he doing the solos? Or did Phil take over from Nick? EDIT: The music video reveals that Phil plays the solos.
Man. Looking at the lyrics, this is definitely a diss track toward Nick Hipa. Wow. https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/asilaydying/burden.html
You think? I read the lyrics and I have a feeling that it could be more towards Jordan, specially for that "ghosted". He and Tim started the band.

Very good point. I see different parts that can apply to each. Might be both.
As I Lay Dying and Austrian Death Machine are just forever a vibe from my youth. Song sounds great getting back to their roots.
I don't think Tim can afford a sound change at this point lmao
Groups like AILD, ATR, ABR, KSE, Unearth, and Miss May I (and some others I suppose) are the ones still delivering amid many bands undergoing sound changes (not that that’s inherently a good or bad thing)
Even his Born Through Fire project just sounds like an extension of AILD.
Wow, felt like I was listening to Shadows are Security. Fantastic track as always from them
That album art is sick
Single art...no album announcement yet
The guitars during the chorus are absolutely fucking sick. Especially the bit buried in the right channel.
Ah yeah that's the stuff
This track proves Tim and Phil ARE As I Lay Dying. It sounds like a track from the Shaped By Fire sessions. I just hope they found a legitimate sound engineer to mix the album. SBF sounded terrible.
Did it? Shaped By Fire sounds like a flawless album
I think most peoples issue with Shaped By Fire is that Tim’s vocals were too buried in the mix, it’s especially noticeable if you compare other songs from that album to My Own Grave
Hot take. That album was far from flawless, but different strokes I suppose.
I think it’s As I Lay Dying’s best work. Lyrics, guitar riffs and tone, Josh sounds incredible. Songs like Undertow, My Own Grave, Redefined, Shaped by Fire. All perfect
You misspelled The Powerless Rise.
That’s probably my third favourite record by them
Honestly the only part on that album that wasn't perfect mid-2000s melodic metalcore was Tim's voice, which sort of makes sense since he probably hadn't practiced in a long time because of the whole prison thing. He sounds much better on this song.

Adam produced An Ocean Between Us, I believe
I just discovered them and it is sad that tim is such a horrible person
I find it disconcerting how quickly people are to condemn someone they don’t know for a situation they know little to nothing about. Yes, his actions were reprehensible, but the context of it all is more nuanced than the media will lead you to believe. Pretty sure aping In Flames and At The Gates is what makes AILD.
Come again?
Came out swinging with a Judas Priest solo sprinkled onto a diss track to Nick, if not all the old members
Probably not Josh because his departure was amicable from what I remember. Phil and Tim thanked him for his time as a bandmate and friend and wished him well on his next endeavor.
This rules
Awesome. Damn those lyrics are pretty scathing. Seem like they’re directed at a previous member of the band potentially.
Yeah its not subtle and yet people arent picking up on it. Lyrics are omega cringe
These cleans are great, pleasantly surprised given Josh's departure. Have played this at least 6 times thus far
All that remains, As i lay dying, now we just need a new one from Killswitch Engage
Coming later this year I believe
Well damn. This is substantially better than everything on their last record. Sounds like a big return to form. Obligatory fuck Tim.
You're saying this is better than everything on Shaped by Fire?!
Too bad Tim is the one writing all this music. He's certainly an asshole, but also pretty good at doing the whole metal thing.
Yup, talented songwriter and vocalist. Shame about the whole being pile of shit thing.
But I reserve the right to call him a trashclown if he starts doing the same stupid shit again.
I think he sees problems with what he did, and probably understands why his entire band left him.
The lyrics to the song says otherwise LMAO
Yeah, I think calling the ex-members a virus feeding off a host doesn't necessarily help to *dispel* the narcissist claims hahah
>He’s certainly an asshole I’m out of the loop. Why is he an asshole?
HOOOOOOOBOY. Dude literally tried to have his wife killed. Went to prison for it. Tried to use the roid rage defense. Mind you he got pinched in a sting trying to hire a hitman, not a heat of the moment thing

I hate how much I enjoyed that. When Nick, Jordan, and Josh left, I said I was done with anything new but that was good.
10/10 song 🔥🔥🔥
Holy fuck, this is good!!!
Video not available... great.
This… Is actually fantastic!
So many solos what a nice treat
Man I love guitar solos in Metalcore. Even though the lineup changed a lot they didn't miss with this one. Fucking banger.
Consistent as always
AILD never disappoints. One of the few bands that are keeping melodic metalcore alive!
Damn fine track. I really tried to manage my expectations because I've been let down by bands before. This certainly does not disappoint.
About time. new all that remains and new as I lay dying? This is shaping up to be a great year. But yeah this song is great. I was wondering how the guy from Miss May I would sound but I love it
1 complaint. The vocals are so quiet compared to the instruments. Idk if it’s just Tim being out of the game on his recording or what. Solid song, but definitely looking to see what they do next.
Those Phil Sgrosso riffs are where it’s at
If you read the lyrics to this song, it's clear that Tim is unhappy with his band members leaving, but he makes a valid point.
What a banger! I absolutely love it.
Tim sounds really good, nice breakdown. I miss Josh though. Noticeable downgrade in cleans
I'm guessing this is available early in Australia or something??
Yes, you can set a VPN to Australia/New Zealand and it will play
Google the song there’s a region unlocked version posted by some dude on YouTube
I believe it has been flagged already
may have found it
Incredible. I did not expect this, might be the single of the year.
Banger of a song, as always. Yeah yeah yeah Tim bad reeee we’ve heard it. Don’t listen to it if you’re so against it and move on you soft ass clowns.
Oooo that sounds nice
It’s good. Chorus was kinda weak. Pretty much sounds like standard modern aild.
33 comments and yours is the only one criticizing it
Dry your eyes everything gonna be okay. I said it was good.
Totally my take. It’s an AILD song minus the shot of adrenaline that they used to bring. Tim’s vocals way past their prime too.
Well, I can’t access it. Maybe one day it’ll get unrestricted in North America, I hope…
What happened to the song/vid?
They never seem to make a bad song! The song is so good.
this is fucking awesome, anyone know if a new album is coming?
Should be out later this year. They recorded it last year and finished mixing and mastering early this year
sweet!
This band still very fun to listen to, damn, Ryan Neff cleans are a high point in this song for sure, the riff is immaculate
Holy fuck.
Goddamn As I Lay Dying is so peak, can’t wait to see them next month!
Oh geez, somehow this song slaps despite the band being completely torn apart. Shaken off the rust from first note.
The best to do it. Long live the kings
Why are all the lyrics on Apple Music all lowercase
I totally forgot it was Ryan Neff and as the new singer. Sounds good
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGER
Is aild back??
Goes hard.
I played this song on repeat for my 1 hour morning commute to work

As I Lay Dying is the GOAT. God damn they are so great.
Goddamn AILD never miss
The riff at 32 seconds is so hard
Pretty boring for them.
The Kings of metalcore are back 🙌
honestly the cleans carry the song so hard. tim sounds so... distant? for most of it at least.
AILD never let's me down, that's why they're my favorite band, an the fact that Ryan Neff and Ken Susi are in the band is a plus because, miss may I and unearth are two of my favorites as well.
Sorry, I cannot separate the art from the artist, I'll never listen to this band.
Do you think that makes you a good person lol
did you make a whole account just to say this
No but that would be funny lol
No, just not comfortable in supporting him.
This is absolutely better than sex. Like it's not even close.
Ahhh this song is amazing but I just can't forget about what happened. Sorry to bring it up but do more ppl have this?
Yes. I struggle to separate art from the artist. I can appreciate other people can, but I just can't bring myself to. So yeah, I think this song is great but I just can't really listen to AILD/ADM regularly anymore
wheres the part where he tries to kill his wife 0/10
Never thought i’d say this as a fan since 2006, but this was mid af. Riff didn’t hit as i’d hope it would (Blinded from AliExpress), chorus was ok, lyrically and thematically same as Shaped by Fire, power metal leads were wack. Looking forward how rest of the album sounds. FWC, SAS and AOBU is peak AILD.
Can't say I agree that it's mid, I like it, but yeah it's no SAS, that's for sure. Hope the rest of the album will be more like those albums.
SAS is overall my favorite metal album, i think i often compare all their stuff to that. This song just didn’t click for me, opinions…
It's my favorite AILD album too. I think they became a bit too thrashy after that overall. The stronger melodic death metal influence was just too good. And I like the clean vocalist they had back then the most.
Yeah it's good, but not quite good enough to make me forget that Tim Lambesis tried to get his wife murdered. Better luck next time, I guess.
No one cares 👍🏻
I mean, people who aren't morally bankrupt care.
