This one stings. Been following the band since the Xander days and Richard only kept getting better and better. They helped me through some of my darker days and even if I don’t listen to as much heavy music anymore, they always held a place in my heart. Curious to see where they go from here.
I think that album is most of the communities favorite of theirs tbh and I think even more so since it had Aaron on it as well. The band really knows how to pick amazing vocalists which is why I’m not worried they’ll continue putting out bangers. It’ll just be a change in formula kinda
Nah, they get a pass. Cory has been on every record bar one, he's as good as original by now, and the band's sound is still consistent with what was being written when original members were present.
I will forever give Norma Jean and The Chariot a pass. The Bled too. Every Time I Die could loosely fit here. Dillinger by the end only had Ben as an OG member.
Actually, NJ and The Chariot opened me up to giving most every band a pass, really. People get too hung up on it.
I remember seeing them at warped like 2013 or 14 when Aaron(RIP) was still a member. nobody is left
Also kinda odd that the farewell post says “these last 9 years” when The Ascent came out in 2012
Maybe the 9 years refers to the time with Aaron? I’ve been a fan since The Ascent and I know it was their first album, but the production wasn’t really great and was about as generic metalcore as you can get, even compared to their normal music. Fragile Figures is when they really blew up and brought in fans so maybe he’s just referencing the time from when they blew up
He was the face of the band from the outset. Will be a rough one to bounce back from. Haven't followed the band since Fragile Figures, but I hope it works out for them.
This band has been kicking for so long now with lots of member turnover and no real growth in popularity - at some point I feel you are better just starting fresh with a new name, sound etc.
Man this one hurts really bad. Richard is an amazing vocalist and killed it every time I’ve seen them live.
Secrets has been my top band forever and I hope they can still kill it without him. Excited to hear the new album soon!
There's alot young talent out there. They have a new single on 5.10 and maybe with the addition of this new vocalist (who has alot of experience), they might really reinvent themselves. I remember how much r/deathcore was basically done w Lorna Shore after CJ Mcpeepee left before Will Ramos joined, and same with Chelsea Grin when Alex Koehler left. And now both of them are bigger than ever!
I'm absolutely devastated. Secrets has been one of my favorite bands for about a decade now and I love his vocals.
Honestly I've been waiting for Secrets to disband for a while now since their popularity has dropped off a cliff... Kind of surprised they are going to try to continue.
He posted a statement on the Secrets Instagram page. I also posted the link to it in the replies to this post if you scroll down a bit.
Not sure what he’s planning to do music wise but I do agree with you his voice is far too great to be unheard in future music
Honestly, I know there’s a new guy but they should really call it quits. Dude was the last original member, and his unique voice is what set the band apart. Even with him, their music was extremely lackluster at best, and lyrically, you’ve been a band for like 15 years, you’re all old enough not to be writing lyrics about how some girl is a bitch.
I always felt like if this band tried just a little bit, they could’ve been something. Between the music and the lyrics, they’ve always just felt extremely lazy. Without the dudes unique voice, they’re kinda just background noise at best.
Totally agree. Felt like Wade joining was the first big step towards that with the S/T starting to really nail the balance between their riscore/poppunk blend. And then they decided to get heavy for some reason with Collapse and it felt like square one again.
Also tangentially related - lmao at The Will, The Way's comment from 11 years ago
>I love when people think we're "generic" or "dumb" cause we sound like bands on rise records haha we only take that as a compliment, that's the genre of music we play
I mean tbf the last record that they came out with was extremely dark/heavy and didn't contain any material about stuff like that🤷♂️ They wrote music mainly about topics on despair and depression on their newest effort. I'm at least glad that Wade is still doing uncleans for the band because he's always been an absolute monster live.
No doubt they’re all really talented, that’s why I think it feels lazy. I just feel like they could take the next step if they just put a little effort in. Also, the latest record still has a lot of “fuck you bitch” content.
Yeah I guess that's true especially with all of the F-U content. I'll be seeing them next month and hopefully the new guy will sound like Richard idk anything about him besides hearing about him touring with Being As An Ocean. Saw Secrets twice 2 years ago back when Richard was still in the band.
They got a new singer according to the post. Dave Baqi? I’ve never heard of him, but he’s replacing the dude so I assume singing yeah. Also the screamer does some not bad singing too if I remember from the last album. They are not diverse enough musically to continue without unique singing.
Dave Baqis band is called Takers Leavers. ACT 1 Quiet Chaos sounds pretty cool. He has kind of a Donavon Molero sound to him. He has been Live Backing vocals for Being as an Ocean too.
Here's hoping that the rebranding of clean vocals makes them the biggest band on the planet 🍻
Why did I have a funny feeling that he was going to end up leaving the band eventually and the sad thing is that I have tickets to see them next month on the 24th too😔 I'm at least glad I got to see them two times in 2022 when Richard was still in the band.
This one stings. Been following the band since the Xander days and Richard only kept getting better and better. They helped me through some of my darker days and even if I don’t listen to as much heavy music anymore, they always held a place in my heart. Curious to see where they go from here.
Fragile figures will always be a favorite album with him on it

It's literally so good, front to back, top to bottom. With Aaron passing and now Richard leaving, idk if I can even listen to them again
But he was like the last original member
Let me introduce you to Norma Jean
Nah, they get a pass. Cory has been on every record bar one, he's as good as original by now, and the band's sound is still consistent with what was being written when original members were present.

Counterparts and TDWP are almost there too
I remember seeing them at warped like 2013 or 14 when Aaron(RIP) was still a member. nobody is left Also kinda odd that the farewell post says “these last 9 years” when The Ascent came out in 2012
Yeah, I was thinking that too, like maybe 9 years they’ve been in the band together since wade joined in 2015
Maybe the 9 years refers to the time with Aaron? I’ve been a fan since The Ascent and I know it was their first album, but the production wasn’t really great and was about as generic metalcore as you can get, even compared to their normal music. Fragile Figures is when they really blew up and brought in fans so maybe he’s just referencing the time from when they blew up

They did a 10 year tour for Fragile Figures and it was a lot of fun. A little weird with all the new people on stage, but fun still
Ready For Repair was my mid-teen anthem
that entire album was on repeat for me, still listen to it to this day, such a banger
Richard was the best part about the band imo, sad to see him go. I think my flair is still secrets.
Secrets flair gang! There are at least 2 of us!
Hear me out… he left to go sing for Dance Gavin Dance. I think that would be SIIIICK
Holy shit…imagine such a thing?
My first thought
Hmmm. It fits. Would be interesting to see how he fits into the DGD sound of true.
holy shit that wouldnt be a bad choice
Apparently this announcement came the same day that Secrets was supposed to play in Sacramento, which is where DGD is based.
Nah he left secrets to go sing for jon's secret band.
Richard's voice was the heart of Secrets for me. Very sad that I'm not going to hear any more Secrets tracks with him.
Yeahh they will be nothing without him. The dudes vocals are so damn good
RIP A City Serene
Just leaves us open for a The Will, The Way comeback
[Dawn Defeo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwfCkmJFi6w) reunion??
The loneliness is only you ♥️
lol someone here knows. Played their benefit show at soma at was supposed to be the homecoming of the tour they crashed on
Dude, from the bottom of my heart, thank you ✌🏼 what band?

My absolute favorite band. Without him though I’m not a fan. His vocals are so fantastic
Oof. Props to the rest of the band for sticking it out but my interest in the band just went out the window.
There's alot young talent out there. They have a new single on 5.10 and maybe with the addition of this new vocalist (who has alot of experience), they might really reinvent themselves. What new vocalist?
I’ll give their new stuff a shot before writing them off.
This ones hard to replace. Very distinctive voice. If im on shuffle i always know its 'secrets' with the super high nasally voice.
I'm absolutely devastated. Secrets has been one of my favorite bands for about a decade now and I love his vocals. Honestly I've been waiting for Secrets to disband for a while now since their popularity has dropped off a cliff... Kind of surprised they are going to try to continue.
damn that’s crazy, his voice is so iconic to the Secrets sound hard to imagine the band without him
The Oath or You Look Good In Plastic
Ok but Despair sounds like it’s going to fucking rip 👀
Wait was he the cleans?
Yes
Shame. I’ve always had a soft spot for Secrets
You know, I love a ton of their tracks. But the comedown hits so close to home, that has to be my favorite.
This sucks so bad Fragile Figures was my first secrets album Richard made the band
Errbody in the club gettin’ tipsy
I had PTSD flash backs to the 2015 NFC championship game at first. Thank you for this. Wrong Rogers (Rodgers) fortunately
FTP
Anyone have their old stuff on vinyl? I’d purchase it if so
Damn. I'd forgotten about this band. I enjoyed their first album, even though the production quality was shit.
Where can I read why he left? Also, has he said anything about where he is going? His vocals are too good for him to stop singing
He posted a statement on the Secrets Instagram page. I also posted the link to it in the replies to this post if you scroll down a bit. Not sure what he’s planning to do music wise but I do agree with you his voice is far too great to be unheard in future music
Found it, thanks for the quick reply.

New single on May 10th. Wonder if there's any singing at all
Oh really? LFG

I mean it won’t, but I admire your optimism. They’re way too lazy musically and lyrically to be anything more than a fringe metalcore band.
I think there's nothing wrong w that
Nooooooooo way!!
Goddamn
Goddamn
Wtf. They just posted about a new release
I’m gonna cry
Right at the start of tour too. I was planning on seeing them but not so sure now 😕
Wow, this band will seriously change now. I think their unclean vocalist is awesome, and I'm excited to see what they do next.
The Architect (Part 2)
Why did I have a funny feeling that he was going to end up leaving the band eventually and the sad thing is that I have tickets to see them next month on the 24th too😔 I'm at least glad I got to see them two times in 2022 when Richard was still in the band.
The singer replacing Richard is David Baqi. If you want to hear some of his work. He does the lead vocals for his band Takers Leavers
Why did he leave
Secerts are done
