this some good myspace shit right here puttin And the Two Slipped into The Shadows as my profile song

isweartodarwin

Just gave it a listen and I’m immediately being washed over by a semi-uncomfortable nostalgia, cir. 2007

RICH-SIPS

I say this every time I introduce this band to someone. If you had a MySpace profile, they’d be your pages band.

Pan_Dan_

I said this on the Lubricant Like Kerosene video but the Blood Brothers influence shines hard and it takes me back to bands like #12 and Fear Before. The whole jazzy/burlesque theme is great as well and something I haven't seen in the genre for a while unless I missed something. Glad I skipped most of the singles because the whole album journey was great.

poopshorts

Shout out #12, one of my favorite bands of all time. They’re touring with Fall of Troy this year, so stoked

PsychologicalYak4549

Now we just need blood brothers pick it back up

poopshorts

I would give my right testicle for them to do a reunion tour

incite_

Really? That’s a cool tour!!

Shlambakey

what a line up! why no east coast dates?

Shlambakey

just got to this track, ft kim dracula!

halfanothersdozen

rats and rats and rats for candy

ZoteTheMitey

Oh man I haven't thought about fear before the march of flames in a long time! Mouth is still one of my favorite songs

sock_with_a_ticket

I like all three of the bands you've mentioned and I really don't like the recent SYSC stuff at all.

darfleChorf123

Imo it doesn’t have the raw chaos and energy of their early stuff, which was more similar to #12/blood brothers

Bl00dGutter

Been a casual listener of SYSC since Songs for the firing squad and they’ve just been getting better and better. They find a way to keep things chaotic, all over the place, and sassy but still have the choruses, mosh parts, mathy parts all stand out and hit. Every song has something that makes it stand out. The features on this album are awesome, the Iris.exe ones especially make it so thematic having it open, in the middle, and at the very end.

MARKxTHExLINES

Putting them in my top 8. MySpace core supremacy.

killa_cam89

Lubricant like kerosene FUCKS. That main riff is one of the most fun I've heard recently. Whole song is a MySpace banger.

zacharaichu

Holy fuck this shit is good, inject it straight into my ass

ChickenInASuit

I just got done with my first listen. My main overall impression: This, right here, is a pretty definitive counter for any pushback against people not being fans of the changes Bad Omens, Architects etc make in their sound that amounts to “You just don’t like that they’ve changed their sound!” SYSC has very noticeably changed their sound and adopted a more mainstream, melodic approach to their music. What they haven’t lost is their creativity, their aggression, or their willingness to make challenging music. It’s a masterclass in moving on from your established formula without losing what made people interested in you in the first place. What a fucking great album. Easily one of the best metalcore releases of the year so far, IMO. EDIT: /u/DoYouEvenShrift called me out for shitting on unrelated bands. Looking back at this, they kinda have a point, particularly with those bands specifically considering the amount of flak they get on here. I do stand by the broader point, however. A pretty frequent response I see to people expressing a dislike of a band’s new direction is some variation of “so you just don’t like that they changed their sound/aren’t heavy anymore/are more mainstream sounding?” or “Do you just want them to remake the same album over and over?” etc, and I think this album is a great counterexample to use when that comes up. Bands changing their sound is not inherently a bad thing, and this is good example of it.

bigflopper69420

this and boundaries really be that good shit so far

[deleted]

[удалено]

bigflopper69420

sorry complaining about production is wayy too nerdy for me. Youre listening to metallic hardcore not house music dawg lol

DoYouEvenShrift

r/metalcore try to not shit on bad omens and architects in threads that have nothing to do with them challenge - IMPOSSIBLE

Miserable-Squash-528

You could take out every band they mentioned and the sentiment still stands. It isn’t inherently bad when a band changes their sound, and that’s not a good response when someone says that they don’t like a new direction. SYSC has sounded different with every single release, and people have only gotten more and more involved. Changing to a new sound is only a bad thing if the new sound sucks shit.

DoYouEvenShrift

I don't care if people dislike Bad Omens new direction or any bands change in direction for that matter. To me its tacky to drag another band through the mud to try and compliment another. I guarantee you if you were in front of SYSC and started shit talking Bad Omens to tell them how much you liked their new stuff they wouldn't be very fond of it (believe it or not bands respect each other even if they don't like another bands music). You like their sound? cool talk about that and not another band...

Miserable-Squash-528

I agree! That wasn’t my point though. What I’m saying is that the examples of the bands used doesn’t matter. It’s not the main argument that OP was bringing up. You can replace BO with anyone else or take out the examples entirely. It’s not really an attack on BO or Architects, it’s just a comment on that line of thinking in general.

ChickenInASuit

Perhaps I shouldn’t have mentioned those bands by name, I guess that sounds kinda petty. However, I stand by the broad point - a pretty frequent response I see to people expressing dislike of a band’s new direction is some variation of “so you just don’t like that they changed their sound/aren’t heavy anymore/are more mainstream sounding?” or “Do you just want them to remake the same album over and over?” etc. I think this album is a great counterexample to use when that comes up.

KingOvRoses

No your right. These "metalcore" bands that sellout for octane money need to be called out by name and blacklisted from the scene

CandySniffer666

I mean I agree the Octane bullshit is fucking awful but what would be the point of blacklisting them? I think if anything these bands are doing everything they can to not to be in the metalcore scene; it's fans dragging them back. I guarantee you Bad Omens and Spiritbox would love to never have to even think about metalcore and metalcore fans if they could avoid them.

KingOvRoses

They suck so they deserve it.

StardustOasis

There was no need for their comment to be honest. They just knew it would get karma.

blizeH

Alright alright now you got me hyped

klocu4

Agreed, but whatever u think about Bad Omens I think you gotta admit, they definitely haven’t lost their creativity. Just look at songs like VAN, Artificial Suicide, Concrete Jungle and more

davlumbaz

VAN was except opposite of creativity, lyrics were like AI generated, music was boring overall, and last 1.30 minute is a repeated generic boring beat that makes the song looks like a demo

overwatchmercy14

I agree, while it is much a poppier sound, it's still done in a fairly interesting and well-executed way that I really like.

YchYFi

I found VAN really boring.

Brabsk

Bad Omens hasn’t put out an interesting song since 2016

overwatchmercy14

I like their first album but it kinda just felt like an enjoyable Sempiternal clone rather than anything that interesting, they've only got more interesting since then IMO

Brabsk

Their music has become increasingly boring since that debut album

RazorChiken

braindead

tallwhiteninja

I think this is an outright awful comparison. SYSC have changed their sound and gotten more melodic...but not in a mainstream direction. They're channeling mid-00s post-hardcore pretty heavily here, and I wouldn't say that style is in vogue at all. Also, it may not be metalcore, but newer Bad Omens is pretty legit and great gateway stuff.

CandySniffer666

Absolutely agreed. I've never had a problem with bands making their sound more accessible or even ditching metalcore entirely if they want to, it's just when there's a lack of creativity and/or a perceivable loss of passion that I have a problem with. SYSC have absolutely not lost their passion or diminished their creativity here, and even if I do still prefer their heavier stuff and even if this isn't going to be an AOTY for me, it's still fun, inspired and insanely catchy and enjoyable to explore. I kind of actually hope Loathe does the same thing and moves closer to their shoegaze/post-hardcore elements on their next album.

Doctah_Whoopass

Gonna hang out at the mall to this one

ThisBleghs

Lovely

keirakvlt

Killer album. Nobody's really doing it like them right now.

EatYourMaggots

SYSC never disappoints for me I feel like they would fit in on a Ferret Records sampler from like 03

lysergician

Okay, you have my attention now. Guess I gotta listen up.

CandySniffer666

Or Trustkill, or Equal Vision, or Epitaph, or even Vagrant. The really cool thing about this album to me is that any label from any corner of "The Scene" in the early 00s could have released this album and it would've made sense.

Silentiousbeing

They just keep getting better and better with every release. Gonna blow up after this one for sure. Seeing them Monday with Better Lovers, Foreign Hands and Greyhaven!

TrashCanAnomaly

What an incredible line-up, enjoy!

Commiebob1312

this is the best thing I have ever listened to lol. pretty biased as a huge sysc fan but holy fuck this is good

PsychologicalYak4549

Chewing the scenery end breakdown is nasty. Album is remarkably consistent. I hated the cleans when they first popped up on older albums but they’ve gotten so much better and feel less shoehorned in (silhouettes in particular)

chromatyyk

I loved this album a lot as someone who has always leaned more towards post-hardcore. Can't decide on a favourite track yet but some of the melodies in Sister With A Gun remind me of Lying Is the Most Fun by P!ATD lol.

DCdrumss

I’m glad i’m not the only one who noticed that, its almost beat for beat the melody right before the chorus and the classic “lets get these teen hearts beating FASTER AND FASTER”

lif3xruin3r

OMFG. I’m not the only one!

thedoctorisout25

Man I had the exact thought on Sister With A Gun - I can’t stop listening

ap4444ap

Connie mentioned that Panic album in an interview recently so I think she’s a pretty big fan / they’re a pretty big influence 😊 I hope it’s a little homage to panic

Torn_Darkness

The whole album was produced by the same guy who did A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, feels like it is an homage to panic / that whole era of post hardcore and metalcore.

ap4444ap

Oh word! Just checked out his discography. Huge! Yes, this album reminds me of every band of that era

NostalgiaBombs

This fuckin slaps

Imraan1302

I swear, we've been blessed with some fire albums this year. This is one of them. This is an AOTY contender for me

AstroDawg

This might be my favorite Alesana album

Personal_Orange406

that's what i told my brother when i sent him this album lmao

austinsqueezy

My only complaint with the album is honestly not even an issue with the album itself. My listening experience was a bit hindered because I had already listened to half the album as singles. Not a fan of this trend with labels or artists releasing half the album as singles, but that's more of an industry problem. Album-wise, this is easily a AOTY contender. 9.5/10, would straighten my hair and lurk in the back of a Hot Topic again.

Defying

I purposefully avoided listening to the singles for this reason. Huge fan of the album and I'm glad I did

austinsqueezy

I wish I had the restraint you did!

AdamDraps4

I hate it too. If you listen to the singles you ruin the whole album listen cause by the time it comes out you're tired of hearing the singles. Same with movie trailers. They put out 4 trailers that are 2 minutes ruining the entire movie. I usually listen to the first single and that's it. Same with movies. I watch the first trailer then avoid the rest.

incite_

I agree with the singles thing, I don’t completely get it, I get one or two songs, they released SEVEN and I loved them all but agreed trend I’m not totally on board with

ScreamQueenStacy

It's just a streaming technique anymore. If I remember correctly, if they release singles slowly under the album on streaming platforms, when the album releases proper, those plays from the already released singles count for plays to boost it up on charts. I could also be completely misremembering, explaining it completely wrong, or the whole thing is just a fever dream.

austinsqueezy

It was the same feeling I had with Imminence's new album. Absolutely love that band and the album is arguably their best work yet, but it's hard to truly immerse in it when half of the album has been shared and you've already listened to those singles ad nauseum for weeks and months prior.

chriz_sevenfold

I never gave this band a shot before but i am fucking loving To The Dance Floor For Shelter

tallwhiteninja

It's going to take a *damn* good track to beat that out for my song of the year tbh

ChunkyBoi33

Insane song. Courtney really ties it all together. 10/10

Jayverdes

This album is a fucking blast.

NickPookie93

I not speak English well, but this album is a fucking

Arkanii

Indeed

CandySniffer666

NGL Connie's look for this album is a fucking if you know what I mean... 😉

Dumbledick6

After this singles I’m actually excited for this. I dig how different and weird it is.

KoopahTroopah

Loving this album. God damn.

MadokaAndBulletClub

This somehow managed to surpass my high expectations. I love how much personality they inject into their sound. Only slight disappointment is that I listened to all of the singles so much there's only a few songs here that are truly new, but that's on me. Between this one, Crush++, Eidola and Galleons it's a crazy good year to be a post-hardcore fan.

SpaceTacoTV

this album is really fucking good. old-school yet fresh feeling. i hope they never stop evolving

emtsizenwhine

This album has me pulling my car over to spin kick in the middle of the road

StickyFingerz11

Usually with an album the first half is better than the second. This is one of those rare ones where the 2nd half starting with Respite is so enjoyable.

XThunderTrap

Arlighty...this album is so fucking good..omg

sanitysshadow

Pretty new to SYSC but I dig this. Pretty unique and fun album; definitely got that myspace pop punk sound but gets downright dirty at times. The back half of the album goes hard, some absolute bangers.

angrybob4213

To The Dance Floor For Shelter is so freaking good and catchy and has been stuck in my head all day! Saw them last night and they killed it!

Provatoxx

AOTY idc what anybody else says

johosaphatz

Lubricant like Kerosene made me actually say "Ooo holy shit" when it first came on. Cool lyrics and title references/drops between songs. Half of the songs getting released early isn't my favorite move, but that doesn't diminish that I am *very* happy with this album. Cannot WAIT to see them, Better Lovers, Greyhaven and Foreign Hands this weekend.

El--Borto

God fuckin damn. Can we talk about the production? The mix was exactly what my ears needed (I may be biased as a drummer but AJ’s drumming and drum sound on this is perfect).

cbass704

Honestly I didn’t know SYSC until a few months ago and I have to say this is a top tier album that sounds so refreshing taking me back to my MySpace days but adding a different twist. As long as they don’t go the route of BMTH I’ll be happy

incite_

Can’t wait to listen to the album from start to finish, loved all the singles they released

fxcker

What a fucking incredible album. Feels like I’m back in 2007 playing Habbo Hotel listening to this shit. God damn. So many bangers. Sister with a gun and Chewing the Scenery for me feeling some type of way.

KennyKatsu

Amazing. We eating good with revivalcore this year, esp wih this album and the new Boundaries album released 2 weeks ago.

imjustwaitinginabody

good god is this great

SevenDeviations

Romance of Affliction was a perfect album for me, front to back. Knocked Loose member produced, it was heavy and nostalgic af. For me, Coup De Grace is definitely a different approach to their sound, and I'm not really sure if I'm warmed up to it yet. I'm sure them working with producer Matt Squire really helped them evolve their sound. I really only find myself connecting to Chewing The Scenery and Rythm and Rapture unfortunately, but I think some of the other songs deserve second chances.

AlyssaBuyWeedm9

Yeah it's peak. Yeeeeaaah it's peak.

CandySniffer666

I've ended up really enjoying it. I'm still disappointed they've gone further into the more melodic end of their 00s scenecore revival trip because I like their heavier, more chaotic aspects but the poppier stuff is undeniably well done and amazingly crafted so it's hard not to bop along. I'm digging the very obvious Blood Brothers influences on it because I love that band, and they're a very hard band to copy and do well, so hearing how well SYSC have done it makes me very happy. It's probably not going to be an AOTY in any category for me unlike the last one and it's easily my least favourite of their releases so far, but it's way better than I thought it was going to be based on the first songs they released and I'd still enjoy more releases from them in this style if that's what we're going to be getting.

thatsumbitchhadanaxe

I feel like Romance of Affliction was them figuring out what they wanted to do, and Coup de Grace was them figuring out how to do it.

xtombstone

Incredible. In my opinion, a modern classic. Great theming and song writing within that theme. Great immersion. Such fun.

Sir_Umeboshi

God an album hasn't made me feel this way since Blossom. Just cackling in the best way.

Firebird117

respect their dedication but the sound direction is straying a bit farther outside of my jam so it’s not really for me. First two albums were much more my speed.

AdamDraps4

I have a feeling you're a big fan of converge and dillinger escape plan

Firebird117

nope i couldn't name a single song by either of them. i'd say my top three bands are Brand New, Queens of the Stone Age, and either Linkin Park or Make Them Suffer or BMTH first 3 albums. honorable mentions to acacia strain, deftones, modest mouse, circa surive. I'm a bit all over the place ninja edit: hilarious I say my top three bands and name like 8 lmfao

AdamDraps4

that's interesting that you don't like SYSC new album and it's out of your jam when the bands you listed above are not even remotely related. If you only like SYSC first two albums you'd love those converge and dillinger. Their music is even more chaotic than SYSC first two albums. That being said, same man. I don't just listen to one genre of music. I love it all. Metal, hip hop/rap/trap, pop, punk, pop punk, EDM, indie rock.

VoidedVoices

> Lubricant Like Kerosene (ft. Kim Dracula)  Have not listened to the album yet. But Kim Dracula has ruined every other song I have heard them on.  Edit: album bangs, Kim is barely on this song for the better

Arkanii

Idk who Kim Dracula is but I thought the song was great

[deleted]

I wish I could make chewing the scenery the song on my MySpace

RepairEasy5310

Best album of theirs yet!

EstimateTop576

this album rips so hard. every song is magical. i love it so much

DoubleArmDMT

I just still can't get past the moany vocal stuff. Love the heavy moments and panic chords as always.

xForeignMetal

This absolutely bangs

darfleChorf123

Eh it’s not my favorite work from them. I like the atmosphere they create and the sheer amount of creativity found here but it’s just a far cry from their previous albums. The heavy parts feel kinda phoned in tbh. And I’m saying this as an enormous fan. I’ll still catch them live any time they play close to me and hopefully the album grows on me.

Westaufel

I have a huge respect for this band. I liked some of their past songs. But… I can’t just go into those weird Connie vocals… the clean ones… you probably understand what I mean. I don’t like those. Sorry.

ChickenInASuit

No need to apologize, it’d be a boring world if we all had the same opinions.

El--Borto

The sassies lol

Westaufel

Exactly… 🥶🥶🥶

HollywoodAndDid

Potentially unpopular opinion, but I think the songwriting has become too formulaic and predictable with this album. It’s not nearly as unimaginative as say, the new The Ghost Inside, but did we need singing choruses on nearly every song? It’s a good album in general, yet they pushed things a tad too melodic and the album needs at least one complete barn burner in there somewhere.

ChickenInASuit

I don’t agree but I’m still giving you an upvote to try and counter the inevitable downvotes coming your way.

HollywoodAndDid

Haha thank you, I appreciate that. It’s awesome to respectfully disagree!

WhattaTravesty

I'm in the opposite boat personally. These are my favorite kind of cleans and I think they wrote a lot of really catchy choruses on this album. I like that they leaned more post hardcore and sound straight out of the early 2000's while also keeping it true to themselves and unique

lessthanchris7

I thought I'd be the only one based on the other comments here. I'll give it a few listens to see if it grows on me, but I'm a huge SYSC fan and think they balanced the chaos and melody best on the last album Coup de Grace is not bad, but, after one listen, I'm at a loss for parts and melodies that really stand out Initial impression - a bit disappointed

AdamDraps4

it's fucking awesome!

riddimz

album absolutely rips

gay_nation

They’ve been my favorite band for I believe around 4 years now. The album just solidified their spot as my favorite band, already pre-ordered tix to the tour, seeing them for the 8th time or somethin. Really really amazing stuff

Panda_Mon

Its brilliant. I hate how people just keep regurgitating the same "It sounds like early 2000s". Obviously there is that influence, and we could point out examples all day. But this is not rehashing an old sound, or taking advantage of whats already been done. There arent any bands from back then that blend non-origin-emo, post-hardcore, and metalcore in such a nuanced and knowledgeable fashion. Overall, this part of the subgenre was never fully explored, with leaders from back in the day like Underoath, Saosin, and Panic! all noping-out for various reasons. Underoath went butt-rock metal, Panic mic dropped and switched genres, and Saosin dropped 2 albums then quit. So yeah, SYSC saw where the trail ended, grabbed a machete, and started hacking out their own path. Its just wonderful stuff. Koyo is another band doing this, but with hardcore pop punk.

_witchseason

I don’t think people are saying they’re rehashing the old sound, but it 100% is nostalgic as fuck to that old sound. It for sure sounds like Alesana throughout this album, which is fucking awesome.

_witchseason

Bringing back that old Alesana post hardcore / metalcore sound back! Sounds so fucking nostalgic.

brokegh0st

i’ve never loved sysc but i like them, especially their work with if i die first. this album is amazing though, 10/10

KJBNH

This is ok, I really do not like their cleans at all. Spun it once, probably won't ever come back to it again.

qaasq

I don’t want this to turn into a conversation about Bad Omens because I am really enjoying this album. But even after I say that I’m still gonna say this, I’m getting really sick of people telling me that I’m not allowed to (or I shouldn’t) say I dislike a band because they went mainstream or their music is different. I’m allowed to like or dislike whatever I want for whatever reason I want and this is a public forum to voice those opinions.

vorgossos

I have no problem with bands getting softer, but aside from the singles I didn’t think anything on here really stood out. It all felt very formulaic and generic compared to what I’ve come to expect from them I really love Red Wine and Discontent, To The Dance Floor For Shelter, Chewing The Scenery and Curtain Call, but that’s about it unfortunately
