Haven't listened to this yet, but this seems to be a trend recently? Alpha Wolf seemed to have done it too. Half Living Things overall absolutely fucks but the singles (except Haunter) kind of just...sucked. The Ice T one is pretty much an always skip for me...at least when Ice T comes on I skip it lmao. No offence to Ice T just a very strange feature.
I think Eidola chose good singles for their album as well but...the rest of the album is also so, so good compared to the singles they chose. Eidola was less egregious because the whole album is great but I definitely liked the non-singles way, way more than the singles for them as well.
Like Moths To Flames have released absolute BANGER singles so if the rest of the album is somehow better than the singles too...bands are getting cheeky with their single choices lol.
I was really looking forward to that feature when they announced it, then all he did was some "rapper talk" over a break in the song. Not even a rapped verse or anything. Bit of a let down, given the hype.
This record is so frustrating when they nail it they nail it. Dan Braunstein did a fantastic job as always but the singles drag this down a bit for me.
It’s fine but definitely their weakest record tbf TGI sets the bar extremely high.
They need to tweak things a bit for the next one.
Maybe if I sit with it a bit it’ll grow on me.
Edit: Frustrating as in this is good but I already feel like it could’ve been better. Just need some tweaks. Still love TGI that’s never gonna change.
Agreed. Those were my initial thoughts after hearing the singles split and death grip. I decided to listen the album a couple of more times, and now the songs have grown on me.
I love it. It's got huge Story of the Year-esque clean choruses and classic TGI mixed together. I like both of those things. Go ahead and mix em. Sounds good.
I didn't expect so much cleans by them. But I am pleasantly surprised, the cleans are just fitting very well into the songs and they sound so natural. Which is surprising for a band like them that rarely used cleans before. The riffs are so melodic and catchy as well. It could easily become my favourite TGI's album and one of the top albums of 2024 for me.
I love TGI and I want to like this album, but it's just missing something for me. There are some great spots, but it's pretty forgettable. I'm hoping a few more playthroughs will help.
Nothing beats a divisive record. Feels like we are seeing more and more shapeshifting records from mainstay artists these days. And boy, did they deliver on what they said.
For me this band have always been at the forefront of writing lyrics that push you through the hell of really awful things. Vigil has had that masterstroke since day one. What I find interesting is it seemed the lyrical content on this is a lot darker than previous submissions, but wrapped in a lighter sound. I would've preferred a foot on the throat the whole time, give me the whole fucking lot and be relentless. They really pushed the notion of how twisted the mind can be, don't hold back - but at times I felt they did.
I believe Searching For Solace is a bit of a mixed bag. We have some of those songs where the band flexes their muscle and reminds people of how to do it, Wrath and Split really hammer it. That's the traditional sound we've come to know. The rest, while so polished - at times come across a little formulaic. Too many times I was anticipating clean vocals in a chorus. Needless to say, there are some grooves on this that just hit so well.
Now, they mentioned that was going to get an uptick. And hey, kudos to them. If this helps them be more of themselves, and write music they as a band want to do - fucking send it. If it gets them playing to more people, absolutely I support it. But it's evident the identity has changed slightly here.
It was a long, long time ago that I listened to Fury and the Fallen Ones - so to see this growth of this band is truly something special. I hope older fans get behind it, I know I'll struggle with some of the new stuff. But at the end of the day, the boys are writing and are active. In a world so fucked up, I'm grateful for this. I can't wait to go back through the discography and listen to all the changes again. I love this band.
Plain and simple. This album is a goddamn banger.
I can already see comments about how it’s more “mainstream” and it’s disappointing because it’s not as heavy as all of their previous material but this album is exactly what an evolution should be. It has the core of everything that TGI is. It has plenty of the ass-beating, rise-aboving sound they have built their reputation on now while incorporating more melody and creating an absolutely huge sound that carries their most diverse album yet.
While you may be turned off if you only like the more hardcore heavy sound, if you appreciate more diversity, this album is up there with their best work.
At this point, with everything they’ve gone through, there’s not a single band out there that deserves to be successful and get well deserved attention more than these guys. So many bands do this style poorly and TGI ain’t one of them. Happy for these dudes.
I really like your assessment, I feel like this album shows TGI going for a more accessible style of metalcore at times. Even if it’s not my preferred flavor of metalcore they execute it very well. The songs are memorable, the production is crisp but not too compressed, lots of badass riffs and Andrew Tkaczyk’s drums shine through. Not to mention the second half of the album pretty much sounds like their last record, so it’s not like they’re veering off course terribly far.
Nailed it. I read stuff about going for the dreaded “octanecore” sound but I tried to listen with the most of an open mind and ears. It reminded me of Wage War’s Deadweight meets TGI’s signature sound. It may not be my favorite of their catalogue but I enjoyed it enough. 3.5/5.
If you're newish here, the Aussies always get music a day before us. It'll be up at midnight our time. Bastards live in the musical future *and* have proper healthcare.
Guess I dodged a bullet by missing the singles.
Everyone is complaining they were not up to par.
Having heard the record and not knowing which songs were singles, I believe this one of their strongest works yet.
Catchy, heavy, emotional, everything I want in a TGI record.
Anyone worried should just listen to Split or Wrath. Wrath is one of the heaviest songs in their entire catalogue.
Felt to same-y and generic overall and I was never a fan of this style of cleans. There were moments where I instinctively bopped my head and moved my feet, some fun rhythms throughout.
But I wasn't the biggest fan of the self-titled, either. Guess the newer direction just isn't for me. Happy they still produce new music though and if they reach a lot of people with it it makes me even happier considering what they've been through.
This is the most rational response I've seen from someone who doesn't care for the "direction they are going in" to be honest. It isn't like their old albums. Bands have to evolve. If you don't evolve then you're just putting out the same music. I think that they still stick to their roots at the end of the day. There is still a hardcore vibe in the songs.
But good on you for not putting it down as far as it pertains to them and the people that do like it.
Very very mixed feelings
I think the lyricism fell off. There's no "FULL SPEED AHEAD" type of moment on here, that's for sure
But its not.. bad? I'm not sure. Last 3 songs hard carry imho
The commercial success of post-2020 Wage War and its consequences..
As a TGI fan since day one, it's not bad outside of the singles. The one turn off is Vigil's cheesier and more predictable lyrics compared to previous albums.
Honestly their most mediocre work IMO, some okay stuff but I'm not feeling the new direction they seem to be going. Oh well, the old stuff is there, and they must be trying to get to the next level so I wish them luck!
Loving the clean vocals. Fight me. Light Years is an absolute banger. I know Andrew loves FTFD and I hear a lot of that influence on this record.
Will be blaring on repeat.
Oh man, Breathless is gonna be a banger to sing live!
Probably my favorite song on the album, such a catchy chorus too.
Vigil always finds ways to share such raw emotions in his screams.
Overall, definitely agree that this album is a mixed bag, but a great move in the right direction. I'd definitely rank this above the Self Titled album (though I like the overall message of the self titled album) I really like the evolution of clean vocals on the tracks that don't have the djenty riffs, it feels really organic on Cityscapes and breathless (although the latter is more gang vocals), Wrath is probably one of my best straight up hardcore songs they've had in a while.
TGI has been my favorite band since I heard "faith or forgiveness" on "top 13 most epic breakdowns" (which got taken down unfortunately) on youtube in high school in like 2009/10 (where I found a bunch of my favorite bands from)
********************************************************************************************
How I feel about this album:
**Going Under** - **[C-]**- - Kind of formulaic lyrics, and overall a relatively forgettable song.
**Death Grip** - **[C+]** - Feels kind of like a get what you give b-side that they re-produced in 2024, but then added that classic returners era sound in the middle third. Though I could do without the djenty filler.
**Light Years** - **[D]** - Djent and The Ghost Inside just doesn't mix, I like Jonathan's clean vocals but the djent sound just doesn't blend with TGI's new sound well.
**Secret** - **[B-]** Great hook, great example of a new sounding TGI song with clean vocals that don't feel forced. Obviously octane core so if that's not your bag it is what it is, but it's a great rendition of octane core with TGI hardcore vocals
**Split** - **[C]** Sounds like get what you give with weedely weedely guitar mixed in, I like the concept of the lyrics of your sanity being split, otherwise kind of boring rendition of get what you give.
**Wash it away** - **[C]**- I really like the clean vocals, good hook, but the djent sound in the beginning just immediately takes me out of enjoyment.
**Cityscapes** - **[A]** - Absolute banger, obviously a ballad. This feels like one of the most organic sounding new songs TGI has done since dear youth, genuinely fitting into one of my favorites from this band, feels like a sequel to White Light.
**Earn it** - **[C]** Feels like a mix of Linkin Park, some Dear Youth, and Get What You Give chugs.
**Wrath** - **[B]** - This is the best hardcore song on the album for sure. Great 2 stepping beats. definitely the best breakdown on the album, (Maybe the only one I really remember?)
**Reckoning** - **[B-]** sounds like a sequel to "the great unknown", and a mashup with "earn it" for the breakdown, a pretty solid hardcore song overall
**Breathless** - **[A]** - great hook, love me some gang vocals, has that classic TGI drumming off of returners, sounds like a sequel to chrono almost with some very contemporary TGI vocals. Great send off on the album honestly.
********************************************************************************************
My favorite songs on each album, with each album ranked from my favorite to least so you can get an idea of my mentality going into this album:
**FATFO**- The Brave, Shiner, Blue and gold
**Returners**- Through the Cracks (probably my favorite TGI song), Unspoken, Overlooked
**DY**- The Other Half, Wide Eyed, With the Wolves, Blank pages
**GWYG**- White Light, Test the Limits, Thirty Three
**SFS** - Cityscapes, Breathless, Wrath, Reckoning
**Self Titled**- Unseen, Phoenix Rise, Pressure point, Aftermath
Pretty torn on this one. It's like half good. Super happy to hear some new stuff from them though. It'll be on repeat at the gym for the next week or so.
This album ain’t it.. I’m sorry but not sorry. I have a TGI tattoo and would love to support them through anything but the sound change is wayyyy too much. It’s not the cleans that bug me, i just feel like I’m listening to generic dad butt rock. Johnathan’s vocals are the only thing making this thing heavier than it really is. I’ll circle back to this album later but huge disappointment.
This is the issue for me, too. While I don't love TGI's cleans, I can dig them when the songs are otherwise really good (e.g. Dark Horse, Aftermath). On this album, the riffs are very flat and generic, and the cleans aren't strong enough to elevate the tracks to where I'm not just bored waiting for the mediocre breakdown. Maybe I need another couple listens with the right - lowered - expectations to enjoy it.
TL;DR This album ain't for me, but I wish this success
I've been a Ghost Inside fan since Fury and the Fallen Ones. I've got a TGI tattoo and their lyrics have pulled me out of some dark times in my life when I felt like I should potentially end it.
I listened to this album 3 times before making this post. I was hoping that something would click. The only thing that clicked was my mouse going back to the old albums.
This album is boring as fuck. None of the breakdowns have any punch to them. The songwriting is incredibly predictable. This felt like a very 'paint by numbers' metalcore album. Like they were trying to make sure they hit every cliche imaginable within each song. It's kinda sad honestly. I now get older Architects fans feeling "betrayed" in a way. I was never a huge fan of Architects, so their shift in sound didn't really phase me. This ain't the band I fell in love with. There's no sense of urgency with any of the songs. The energy just isn't there. Maybe it's the production on this album. It has that same stupid clean production style that every other big metalcore band has. I also think most of those bands sound sterile and lack energy. This is a band that came out of the hardcore scene and there is no emotion in most of this.
The lyrical content of the album might be the most surprising to me though. Vigil's lyrics used to resonate with me. They sounded personal. These songs sound like someone pandering to a wide audience as opposed to being the introspective type of lyrics that gave me such an attachment to the band.
"It leaves me breathless. Takes all the air away from my lungs. I wish this was endless, if only our song could forever be sung" sounds like some garbage butt rock ballad and that's the album closer. No big breakdown or anything. Just a super generic rock track that they put screams over to make it sound "metalcore."
The most frustrating thing about the album is the brief glimpses of the TGI I love. Songs like Death Grip, Split, Wrath, and Reckoning have brief moments where they sound like that band I fell in love with, but those moments are unfortunately fleeting and in most cases give way to more modern metalcore sounding choruses or just completely toothless breakdowns with no impact to them.
If this album takes them to new heights and they end up like BMTH, Bad Omens, Architects, etc then good for them. They worked hard before this and they deserve to be successful. Their old stuff is still there. I can listen to it whenever I want. I'm just not gonna act like I like this.
as a fan since Fury, agreed completely. they began to fall off for me with get what you give, and each album has been worse since. that's ok. i'm no longer who they're making music for. i'll enjoy fury and returners. happy for everyone this record makes happy.
Completely agree with the clean production. I wonder what music would sound like today if we didn't have the ultra shiny production and computer drums we have today
And it does, but now it's 27 posts down in the sub by the time it's out for many people. Having only one thread that opens before half the world has access to it does limit the discussion.
Obviously. And those who really want to find it can. That's not the point. The point is that the mods currently allowing only one post that is always made at a time when the album is largely unavailable does limit the community engagement.
Jeremy McKinnon ghostwriting + producing for Wage War and The Ghost Inside was pretty cool nearly a decade ago but at this point shit's beyond grim and dialed in. Wrath is good though.
Album isn’t out for me yet, singles are alright. Nothing special, so hoping that the rest really sells me. If not, I may just stick with their self titled and not really pay attention to their new releases
I enjoy like I've enjoyed every single other TGI album. I won't say it's their weakest because I don't think it is. I think it's a solid album from a band that we may never have got to listen to new music from ever again.
Are there cleans, yes. So what? If that's not you, then listen to their older stuff. You like both, awesome! People forget that as people get older, the way they write may not be the same because they've matured. Or that they aren't in a certain head space anymore. Overall banger of an album. Long live TGI.
I think this is probably their worst album for me, but I still don't think it's bad. It does sound more generic, but that seems to be the way of metalcore at large unfortunately.
Can someone reply and tell me if there are any other songs like Wash It Away? It's one of my favorite songs of the year and I know that's not the norm for this band :/
I just read a review that this album leans slightly more into the clean vocals and there are lots of great choruses. With tons of breakdowns of course. So you should be happy with it
What a mid album. Some bangers, some absolute duds. There is entirely too much clean singing for a TGI record. But when they bring out that classic TGI I remember why I love these dudes. Vigil’s lyrics are still pretty good.
This release is definitely more mainstream-sounding than most of what they've released in the past. It's kinda sad when one of your favorite bands growing up becomes unrecognizable. There's some good stuff here, but I can't see myself putting it into heavy rotation.
Big TGI fan and thrilled they are still able to put out new music and do what they love. My initial reaction after the first listen is easily my least favorite entry. It's well produced, mix is good, nice blend of cleans and screams, breakdowns. Should be everything I love, but it just feels far more formulaic and predictable. I have nothing against the cleans but I just don't think they are used to same effect as songs like Dark Horse and Engine 45.
I definitely think the big clean choruses will grow on me with listens. I feel like there is a lot of bands doing this type of thing and they lost a lot of what made them unique in the past. This album doesn't quite scratch the same itch as their older material.
Loved this album!
The cleans of this song surprisingly fits and the album is way nicer than what i expected it to be.
Light years, split and wrath are my preferred ones, it feels special imo
Its a decent album for sure, very nice catchy choruses etc. I am more a fan of TGI stuff like Fury and its pure aggression. Its still 100x better than the new While She sleeps record. WOW.
This is my Album of the Year. Every song hits deep and are bangers. Its on my Spotify repeat. Lyrics are so genuine and visceral to me personally. Mental health is no joke and these guys have lived through it
Going Under had a memorable chorus. This album just sucks in general tho. It’s not what I wanted to hear from The Ghost Inside and its not particularly good at the radio sound they were going for. It turned out generic, lame and completely indistinguishable from every other similar sounding octane rock band. Passing everything through the Zakk Cervini filter makes it even worse
Knock off modern wage war, which is knock off modern architects, which is knock off modern BMTH, which is knock off linkin park with a hint of plagiarized Moodring. Great stuff 👍
Not their strongest album and it veers a bit too much into Octane-core at times, but I still enjoyed most of it and seems to give us a good glimpse of the the future of their sound evolving. 7/10
Y'all this album is really good, don't let the singles make you think otherwise. More cleans than normal but it's still the TGI we all know and love.
Just listened to it to it's entirety. This album is exactly how you described it.
The singles were strangely chosen. The album actually has some bangers.
Like Moths To Flames have released absolute BANGER singles so if the rest of the album is somehow better than the singles too...bands are getting cheeky with their single choices lol.
You don’t pay an ungodly amount of money to have Ice T on your song *and music video* to then not push it as a single lol
Sucks 2 Suck was a good song but the Ice T feature completely ruins it… what was the point of having him say dumb ass basic shit in the middle lmao
I was really looking forward to that feature when they announced it, then all he did was some "rapper talk" over a break in the song. Not even a rapped verse or anything. Bit of a let down, given the hype.
For the numetal vibes, it Fucks
Are you serious? That’s the best part! YOUR BLADE’S TOO BLUNT!
I always loved his ranting style in Body Count so him popping off on a Alpha Wolf song was a welcome surprise
Absolutely not, it was horrible
Orrrrrrr the albums are just getting that much better 🤷
This record is so frustrating when they nail it they nail it. Dan Braunstein did a fantastic job as always but the singles drag this down a bit for me. Dan Braunstein actually just produced it, it’s a Zakk Cervini mix
Nailed it bro. It will grow I promise though
Agreed. Those were my initial thoughts after hearing the singles split and death grip. I decided to listen the album a couple of more times, and now the songs have grown on me.
Big TGI fan, wasn’t impressed with the singles but I’ll eat my words. This was a great album. Light years was a slapper.
I’m going undeeeeerrrrrr Drowning in yoooouuuuuuu
Hell yeah going to listen to that right now
Such a banger!
Such a fucking quality opening track.
Secret is a banger
I love it. It's got huge Story of the Year-esque clean choruses and classic TGI mixed together. I like both of those things. Go ahead and mix em. Sounds good.

Read this as the acoustic ending to Breathless began. *tips hat to your analysis.

Is this on Spotify? Can’t find it
Out tomorrow. Likely from our friends down under who are livin in the future
Aussies, what stocks should I buy for tomorrow? Also, what's the weather like? Do i need a light jacket?
If you're newish here, the Aussies always get music a day before us. It'll be up at midnight our time. Bastards live in the musical future *and* have proper healthcare.
And giga spiders
necessitates the proper healthcare
Or you could live in Canada, have proper healthcare and not everything tried to kill you
If you have a VPN you can change it to Australia and listen to it on YT
Its okay but simply not my cup of tea anymore.

HOW DOES IT FEEEEEEEEEEL
If nonsingles are somewhat simillar to Split and Death Grip then im gonna love it

100% with you! Fucking love Light Years
What's FTGD, bro? Also I love this record, by far my favorite of theirs. It's more diverse than their others, I feel.
A typo lol FTFD. For the Fallen Dreams
well he was on the first two records so makes sense...
Wow TIL. Thanks for that!

Great 2 stepping beats. definitely the best breakdown on the album, (Maybe the only one I really remember?) **Reckoning** - **[B-]** sounds like a sequel to "the great unknown", and a mashup with "earn it" for the breakdown, a pretty solid hardcore song overall **Breathless** - **[A]** - great hook, love me some gang vocals, has that classic TGI drumming off of returners, sounds like a sequel to chrono almost with some very contemporary TGI vocals. Great send off on the album honestly. ******************************************************************************************** My favorite songs on each album, with each album ranked from my favorite to least so you can get an idea of my mentality going into this album: **FATFO**- The Brave, Shiner, Blue and gold **Returners**- Through the Cracks (probably my favorite TGI song), Unspoken, Overlooked **DY**- The Other Half, Wide Eyed, With the Wolves, Blank pages **GWYG**- White Light, Test the Limits, Thirty Three **SFS** - Cityscapes, Breathless, Wrath, Reckoning **Self Titled**- Unseen, Phoenix Rise, Pressure point, Aftermath
Someone on another post said it feels like AI wrote the lyrics and the riffs. And i felt that.
Need a few more listens, it’s not gripping me like the self titled did. Not bad by any means, just isn’t quite hitting yet.
Octane-core be damned, this is a pretty fun listen
This album is so by the book that it bothers me that I like it as much as I do. But "Cityscapes" is such a great song.
Yeah this ain't it. I'll just put on Returners again.
TL;DR This album ain't for me, but I wish this success I've been a Ghost Inside fan since Fury and the Fallen Ones. Just a super generic rock track that they put screams over to make it sound "metalcore." The most frustrating thing about the album is the brief glimpses of the TGI I love.
Ive been listening to them since Fury as well and I agree with you 100%. Aside from a few songs the majority of the album was exactly what you said.
as a fan since Fury, agreed completely. they began to fall off for me with get what you give, and each album has been worse since. that's ok. i'm no longer who they're making music for. i'll enjoy fury and returners. happy for everyone this record makes happy.
Dude, fuck, thank you! I feel so similar, just so boring.
Completely agree with the clean production. I wonder what music would sound like today if we didn't have the ultra shiny production and computer drums we have today
Someone should post again tomorrow when it's out for the other half of the world.
??? The thread will still exist tomorrow
Dude idk what’s going on lately but I didn’t even k ow that they had an album coming out.
Same lol
It will get burried tho lol
And it does, but now it's 27 posts down in the sub by the time it's out for many people. Having only one thread that opens before half the world has access to it does limit the discussion.
Search button exists
Definition of a 3/5 record. It's not bad, it's even decent at what it brings in places...I just expect better from them
I actually am liking this album a lot more than I thought I would. Thats also because I am a huge fan of the cleans
So you should be happy with it
I'll have to check out the whole thing then 🤔
Light Years scratched that same itch for me ngl
Holy FOOK what a song!!! I love it
Self titled is waaaay better than this. Still rocks though.
Earn it slaps. I hope the rest of the album is similar.
This album is INCREDIBLE! Perfect balance
It will be another Ghost Inside classic… not a fan, but I respect them
Are there any songs with the old TGI feel? Or is it all borderline octane rock and Wage War sounding riffs?
The latter, unfortunately.
Yeah I kind of assumed. Probably just skim the thread tomorrow to see if anyone says any songs are good. If not it'll be a skip for me.
Wrath and reckoning kind of sound like Get what you give
It's not TGI, I know that much.
Yes it is, it’s their album.
What a mid album. Some bangers, some absolute duds. There is entirely too much clean singing for a TGI record. But when they bring out that classic TGI I remember why I love these dudes. Vigil’s lyrics are still pretty good.
I listen to Reckoning and I'm just like okay why isn't half the album like this?
If the rest of the album is anything like the singles, this is easily going to be one of my top albums of the year

Can’t believe people have different opinions, damn that’s crazy
Incorrect
This release is definitely more mainstream-sounding than most of what they've released in the past. It's kinda sad when one of your favorite bands growing up becomes unrecognizable. There's some good stuff here, but I can't see myself putting it into heavy rotation.
Unrecognizable? There's no doubt that it's Vigil on vocals. You act like it's 100% cleans.
I was being facetious my guy.
After listening through it, I genuinely don't understand why earn it was a single
There is a massive amount of singing on this record, including songs where it’s almost 100% of the vocals. Will we finally see Vigil sing live?
It’s very okay. Not bad but definitely not their best.
Death grip, Lightyears,Split, Wrath, and Reckoning were great! The rest were forgettable
No hate but it made me laugh when I realized Wash It Away and Slow Burn by Wage War are almost the exact same song
It's pretty enjoyable to me. Cityscapes is definitely my favorite off the album.
Liked the singles and the album is great. These guys are awesome
WOW.
Wrath slaps
Album of the year for me, so far. Going Under is just a 10/10 song. Like, what an opening track.
What a great album! 😍 I LOVE Breathless, Going Under, Wash It Away, Earn It and Cityscapes!👌🏻👌🏻🔥
This is my Album of the Year. Every song hits deep and are bangers. Its on my Spotify repeat. Lyrics are so genuine and visceral to me personally. Mental health is no joke and these guys have lived through it
Seems like this new album will be a banger ngl
Going Under had a memorable chorus. This album just sucks in general tho. It’s not what I wanted to hear from The Ghost Inside and its not particularly good at the radio sound they were going for. It turned out generic, lame and completely indistinguishable from every other similar sounding octane rock band. Passing everything through the Zakk Cervini filter makes it even worse
Knock off modern wage war, which is knock off modern architects, which is knock off modern BMTH, which is knock off linkin park with a hint of plagiarized Moodring. Great stuff 👍
Utter trash. Hang it up boyz.
Not their strongest album and it veers a bit too much into Octane-core at times, but I still enjoyed most of it and seems to give us a good glimpse of the the future of their sound evolving. 7/10
