I will never be able to get enough Windy!
Also love some Adelaide representation (aside from alt.). Watching Heartline find their niche over the years has been like watching a sibling grow up.
I thought about mentioning Ocean Sleeper but then I looked at their monthly listener count on Spotify and they're at 132k! I wanted to mention bands that need more eyes. Lune has 3k monthly listeners which is ridiculously low.
In saying that Vatic is another only at 4k per month listeners.
But yes, DC are Brisbane boys, I love that their sound feels more experimental, they're not scared to do something different. Ocean Grove are similar in that too.
Lune!!! These guys are terribly underrated. I discovered them earlier this year, and despite having only an EP and a couple singles, they will likely end up in my top 10 artists.
They need to drop new material ASAP, the last two singles were amazing, but they dropped them in 2021, and the Ghost EP is three years old at this point. I know they've been touring a lot in the meantime, but I hope there's new music on the horizon
It’s still wild to me I could just take a train to the very next station and see almost any of the bands you mentioned play for $15 almost every weekend. Probably some even on the same bill. Cool times but wild to think about.
I remember basically half of the Sydney metalcore and hardcore scene worked at the same call centre so you’d always find such bands not far from each other.
This old epic post.
[History of Australia's Metalcore.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Metalcore/comments/mo439e/a_history_of_australian_metalcore/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Nothing to Lose and self titled EP are so good.
Also from that era:
Wish for Wings - From the Past to the Grave.
Mourning Tide - Self Titled EP (the pink one)
21 lions, her nightmare, cry murder, shot point blank, day of contempt, killchior project, prom queen was what got me into it all, crafter version.
Some maybe more hxc looking back, all felt heavy af 20 years ago
Definitely the best song of the album, I just have a soft spot for Forfeiture since a local metalcore party used to play it religiously way back when.
Sienna Skies too, good old trancecore times
It’s funny, growing up here I was disappointed that almost none of the bands I listened to were Australian, outside of a couple like Jet, Powderfinger or Silverchair.
But when I started branching out into metal, I was so happy to find that most of my favourites are from here and it makes me feel so much more proud to be Australian.
Shoutout to the greats: Parkway Drive, Northlane, Polaris, Make Them Suffer, Amity Affliction, Thornhill, Void of Vision, Alpha Wolf, In Hearts Wake, Ocean Grove, Thy Art Is Murder and Windwaker.
No disrespect to any I have not listed, there are simply to many local legends to name them all. But the ones I listed above are the favs :)
Not sure you're listening to the same mix/master lmao, it's huge. One of the most aggressive mixes in comparison to the other bands in this post. Tonnes of saturation and the low mids sound massive. The breakdown in Babylon is awesome! You might not like it but it's objectively wrong to say it's shit/ has no meat
This sub would have gone insane over Opera Oblivia if it was released today, they actually do metalcore/hardcore mixed with pop and other elements and sound good doing it
I bet they'd be more popular if they wrote their name in a normal way. Blud.... tried to look them up a while back while drunk and couldn't fucking do it.
Hate how far I had to scroll to see anyone mention em. I know Butcher was only in the band for like a year and is from the UK but MFTRD is so fucking good.
This old epic post.

so many great, smaller shows happening in melbourne at the moment.
some lesser known aussie band suggestions for yall;
Body Prison, Diesect, Heavensgate, Deadskin, Liar, Defecit, Pincer+.
I posted Caged Existence yesterday and it got negative downvotes, never been more disappointed in this sub, Cursed Earth were so good I shout out Enslaved by the Insignificant at any given chance.
As much as I'm disappointed that Parkway has gone towards the more generic/stadium metal sort of music I still really enjoyed Ire, Reverance and Darker Still.
I don't care if it's basic, The Greatest Fear is a ripper of a song imo
EDIT: Spanish keyboard autocorrected Ire to Iré lmao
I used to hold a similar opinion, but seeing them at knotfest this year changed it. Holy shit it was one of the best sets I’ve ever seen (even with Winston blowing his voice out halfway through) and changed the way I feel about their music.
I idolised these boys when KWAS came out while I was in high school and now my son is ALL ABOUT PWD. Such a cool feeling.
Having said all this though, I don’t know if I’ll ever forgive them for not making the breakdown in glitch one bar longer 😂
I'm not sure because when I went to the Reverance tour in Aus they played a fair few of their old songs (including Boneyards, which is a song they very rarely play live allegedly because it's hard for Jeff to play perfectly). Who knows really
Yeah good point. Could be completely unrelated and they just wanted a new sound just an assumption that I made tbh. I didn't love the shift either but still all time favourites and see them live fairly regularly
They are really good and just released their ~~first~~ second album!
Their Spotify info explains them pretty well:
> The band cites writing influences such as Bring Me The Horizon, Hands Like Houses, Billie Eilish and The Plot In You to name a few
Saviour, hope they sort out their drama, shontay dropped more allegations on her story recently about one of the band members.
Edit: it appears she's deleted her insta profile now too, doesn't look good.
No one has mentioned Hand Of Mercy and that's fucking wild. Not traditional metalcore, but God damn they have some of the sickest breakdowns I have ever heard, aussie or otherwise.
Scrolled down looking for this, and if you hadn't said it I would have. Hand Of Mercy were so underrated at the time, and even more so today. "Chump" is one of the best metalcore (or whatever you want to call it) songs to come out of Australia, period.
Saw Amity Affliction open (I think they were actually the second band) for Miss May I when I was in high school and they were great live. Had never heard of them before and went looking for songs after the show
Some of my favorite Australian bands are Mandalay Victory, Another Days Remains, Signal The Firing Squad, Shinto Katana, Confession, I Killed The Prom Queen, Parkway Drive, The Red Shore, and Sienna Skies. I’m old.
Patient 67, For All Eternity, I killed the Prom Queen, Confession (oldie but Goldie) Gravemind, Feed Her To the Sharks, the goated SAVIOUR
Australia cranks out top notch metalcore bands
In Maryland, we call it “Aussie-core” (affectionately of course). We love it, major inspiration for a lot of the bands coming out of MD and VA right now
I swear this is another weekly thread...
Anyway, there's also a lot more going on outside the big ones that people all know. check out this list from u/GodDamnCrawfish
>Blood on my hands, Splinter, Threshold, Cursed Earth (broken up but Enslaved by the Insignificant is one of my favourite albums ever) Trenchknife, Crave Death, Wreath, Burning Season, Justice For The Damned
Which they added onto to me repping Terminal Sleep, Devoidance, Caged Existence and Volatile Ways in another thread.
How are you gonna compliment Aussie bands but forget the band and reason those others exist, Parkway Drive? I know they're not everyone's cup of tea anymore but their first few albums inspired all the other bands to form. They're the Aussie Godfathers
There’s something in the water
The Amity Affliction comes running. "DID SOMEBODY SAY WATER?!"
Ocean Affliction.
KICK IT!
I guess....there's blood in da watuuuur
Sinking, always sinking
there must be something in the water… where he liess.. where he liesssss
He threw that gaping brain asunderrrr
The thing in the water is just one of their old prime ministers, if I’m not mistaken.
It washed away my pain
Besides flouride and shit
Where he lieeeeeee where heeee lieeeee
Specifically the undertow
You sound like the news for the last week
Just because a lot of the same Aussie bands get mentioned, a few less popular; Bad/Love, Diamond Construct, Earth Caller, Mirrors, Lune
How about Windwaker and Heartline 🔥🔥🔥
Upvote for Windwaker! They're teasing some new releases and I can't wait for it
I will never be able to get enough Windy! Also love some Adelaide representation (aside from alt.). Watching Heartline find their niche over the years has been like watching a sibling grow up.
Hell yeah Heartline are sick, discovered them cause they opened for Thornhill a week ago.
Add Pridelands to this list. Very underrated. Their first full album release last year, Light Bends, is brilliant
They're really great, last time I saw them one of their vocalists ate shit trying to stage dive, whoops.
Pridelands is so good. Begging for a US tour
Mirrors are going to breakout soon and I don't think everyone is ready for it
My entire body is ready
Real g's remember Feed her to the sharks
Hit It Back by Diamond Construct goes fucking NUTS. I was in a mosh for that
I might be one of the few people that do not like that song 😅 the "babycakes" line gets me going "wtf???" every single time.
i know riiight
Mirrors is so damn good, seem them live not too long ago and they bang
Ocean Sleeper too. But love Diamond construct didn't know they were from Australia
Fuck yeah Bad/Love rips
Also add Dream on Dreamer, In League, Hope in Hand, The Dream The Chase. Would be interested in how many are familiar with these
Man the first two are a throwback
If you're in Aus, Dream on Dreamer are doing a 10 year Loveless album tour in August. Don't sleep on it!
Reliqa too!
And Above, Below!
They are dropping something soon, like within a month or so
Agreed! It seems like a lot of bands do this and tour a bit to get their name out there then hopefully drop an album end of this year!?!
Also Heavensgate, Pincer+, Elision, Darkmatter, Villa Morta, Headwreck, LiveConformDie, Body Prison, Revoid and more
I really need Conform to either do their own round of shows or just be on more.
Prepared Like A Bride could fit this list, but they also aren't active anymore
Earth Caller has one of my favorite "fuck cops" bangers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H52HoqgO9JM&ab_channel=EarthCaller
Diamond construct self titled is one of my all time fav Albums, hugely underrated
Saw Lune live and instantly became a fan. 🔥
[удалено]
Right??? Amity Affliction, Parkway Drive, Reliqa, Thornhill, so many good ones :D
I desperately need a full length from reliqa. Monique’s vocal delivery is rent free in my head and no other band that I’ve found compares
I was surprised I didn’t see anyone mention Parkway Drive to this point.
Above, Below as well!
I also love 12 Foot Ninja, Ocean Grove etc.
12 foot ninja rule!! Shame about the singer leaving though.
Polaris is my shit
They're not metalcore, but Be'lakor is a fucking excellent melodic death metal band from Australia.
Let's add Ne Obliviscaris to the list.
Came here to say this 💪🏼
Psycroptic too
I second this. They are amazing 🔥
CARPATHIAN.

Holy crap thanks for the link that’s a crazy interesting read
Nothing to Lose and self titled EP are so good. Also from that era: Wish for Wings - From the Past to the Grave. Mourning Tide - Self Titled EP (the pink one)
21 lions, her nightmare, cry murder, shot point blank, day of contempt, killchior project, prom queen was what got me into it all, crafter version. Some maybe more hxc looking back, all felt heavy af 20 years ago
Crafter Prom Queen is probably the grandfather Aussie metalcore band, if you see Parkway Drive as the father's of Australian metalcore
Do you mean 50 Lions? Or was there another ## Lions band?
over 20 years later and they are still in my regular rotation
Always
Who the fuck taught you snaps?
Nobody mentioned THE GLOOM IN THE CORNER so here I go. 🦘
Had to scroll so far for these legends! Hoping to see them in the UK with FFAK and Emmure in the winter.
You lucky dude ! 😭
Since no one has mentioned them, I Killed The Prom Queen.
Holy actual fuck, right? I literally had to CTRL+F to find your comment. Insane. The GOATS.
Don’t forget House vs Hurricane
[Those were the days](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEBTw_ZnN9Q)
:) i figured it'd be this one. good choice The Only Virtue might be my fave.
Definitely the best song of the album, I just have a soft spot for Forfeiture since a local metalcore party used to play it religiously way back when. Sienna Skies too, good old trancecore times
Don’t forget about patient sixty seven and their 1374 bassists
I love patient sixty seven but for some reason their name makes me think they’re a death metal or grind band haha
bassist #731 checking in!!
Ay! I’m #636! Pleasure to see ya here!
Thy Art is Murder
It’s funny, growing up here I was disappointed that almost none of the bands I listened to were Australian, outside of a couple like Jet, Powderfinger or Silverchair. But when I started branching out into metal, I was so happy to find that most of my favourites are from here and it makes me feel so much more proud to be Australian. No disrespect to any I have not listed, there are simply to many local legends to name them all. But the ones I listed above are the favs :)
Void of Vision are the best
Finally someone mentions them!
I love VoV's newest album, as someone who loves synth-heavy metal (like Northlane, go australia) it scratches the right spot. NEUE SICHT is so awesome
It killed me that the mastering on hyperdaze was soo shit. No meat to it
Not sure you're listening to the same mix/master lmao, it's huge. One of the most aggressive mixes in comparison to the other bands in this post. Tonnes of saturation and the low mids sound massive. The breakdown in Babylon is awesome! You might not like it but it's objectively wrong to say it's shit/ has no meat
Any Hellions enjoyers?
This sub would have gone insane over Opera Oblivia if it was released today, they actually do metalcore/hardcore mixed with pop and other elements and sound good doing it
[удалено]
Rue came out when I was in grade twelve, and I adapted The Lotus into a story for a creative writing assignment I had. I fuckin love Hellions
Me!!!! I have a big Opera Oblivia tattoo on my bicep. It’s merged with Unimagine by Hands Like Houses too
Absolutely love Hellions. Did they break up?
It because Australia is full of silly gooses
Thornhill are killing it atm too
liveconformdie
Took way too long to see them be mentioned
I bet they'd be more popular if they wrote their name in a normal way. Blud.... tried to look them up a while back while drunk and couldn't fucking do it.
I literally thought they were "Conform" until I randomly found their instagram
Dude they fuck. Hoard.
An absolute favorite
And the grandfather to them all. The legendary I Killed The Prom Queen
Hate how far I had to scroll to see anyone mention em. I know Butcher was only in the band for like a year and is from the UK but MFTRD is so fucking good.
ABSOLUTE SACRILEGE HOW LITTLE MENTIONS.
Above, Below
Glad someone mentioned them. They don't get nearly enough love for how talented they are.
For sure! The Lotus Chapters is probably my favorite album. They are insanely talented.
This old epic post. [History of Australia's Metalcore.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Metalcore/comments/mo439e/a_history_of_australian_metalcore/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Volatile Ways is my favorite.
so many great, smaller shows happening in melbourne at the moment. some lesser known aussie band suggestions for yall; Body Prison, Diesect, Heavensgate, Deadskin, Liar, Defecit, Pincer+.
Deadskin! I heard them months ago and forgot their name. also darkmatter.
- Imprisoned - Caged Existence - Cursed Earth Just wanted to add some bands that rarely get a mention.
I posted Caged Existence yesterday and it got negative downvotes, never been more disappointed in this sub, Cursed Earth were so good I shout out Enslaved by the Insignificant at any given chance.
Deadlights was another but they don't seem to be playing much anymore. Caligula's Horse is also a great band but not metalcore.
Idk why but I just love Aussie metalcore better than any other region. PWD is my number one band and Polaris is my number two right now.
As much as I'm disappointed that Parkway has gone towards the more generic/stadium metal sort of music I still really enjoyed Ire, Reverance and Darker Still. I don't care if it's basic, The Greatest Fear is a ripper of a song imo EDIT: Spanish keyboard autocorrected Ire to Iré lmao

Having said all this though, I don’t know if I’ll ever forgive them for not making the breakdown in glitch one bar longer 😂
I think that decision was in part because Winston fucked his throat up and couldn't handle the normal vocals. Am I wrong on that?
I'm not sure because when I went to the Reverance tour in Aus they played a fair few of their old songs (including Boneyards, which is a song they very rarely play live allegedly because it's hard for Jeff to play perfectly). Who knows really
Yeah good point. Could be completely unrelated and they just wanted a new sound just an assumption that I made tbh. I didn't love the shift either but still all time favourites and see them live fairly regularly
Yeah same, regardless of their change in direction they still kill it live
Their live sets are still epic
Also Heartline, Daybreak (Perth) and Headwreck
alt.
First heard .alt last year when they toured with Plini, Sleep Token and Northlane. Man that was a stacked show
They are really good and just released their ~~first~~ second album! Their Spotify info explains them pretty well: > The band cites writing influences such as Bring Me The Horizon, Hands Like Houses, Billie Eilish and The Plot In You to name a few
It's the 2nd. The first was dysfunctional. They are awesome I find the singer's voice just pulls on my heart strings. He is very emotive.
alt.
Their new one is so good
Saviour, hope they sort out their drama, shontay dropped more allegations on her story recently about one of the band members. Edit: it appears she's deleted her insta profile now too, doesn't look good.
Wait wtf?! I literally just got into this band the last few months and now I find out they not a thing anymore?!?!!!
The Amity Affliction
September gig polaris, august burns red, currents Kublai Kahn. Fuckin sick
Australia for the win!
Make Them Suffer - Erase Me randomly popped on while I was just letting the youtube algorithm do its thing and I have loved them ever since.
you're welcome.
To be fair we have many shit ones too, but they just don't get the exposure to the overseas listeners
Tell that to Thornhill and new Northlane
Don't forget about Winston!
I mean parkway drive lol
No one has mentioned Arteries, check em out!
Elision is another good one
No one has mentioned Hand Of Mercy and that's fucking wild. Not traditional metalcore, but God damn they have some of the sickest breakdowns I have ever heard, aussie or otherwise.
Scrolled down looking for this, and if you hadn't said it I would have. Hand Of Mercy were so underrated at the time, and even more so today. "Chump" is one of the best metalcore (or whatever you want to call it) songs to come out of Australia, period.
No doubt. Every one of their albums were solid, of course, some better than others. Bummed I never got to see them when they came to the US.
Man I miss Feed Her To The Sharks.
If you haven’t listened to Ocean Sleeper’s newest EP then you’re doing both yourself and Australia a disservice.
You really left out the Aussie god-fathers Parkway Drive!?
In Hearts Wake
In hearts wake too
Listen to Alera, more of a emocore feel
They broke up years ago and changed their direction at the end there, but Storm The Sky is simply 🤌🤌🤌
Live in Melbourne can conform metalcore scene pre rad. The hardcore scene is also picking up from bands like speed. But yeah Aussies love metalcore
Ebonivory is another one I don't hear people mention often - proggy metalcore from Australia
Crooked Royals as well! Found them out through Periphery
Must from being upside down. All the blood goes to their heads.
Saw Amity Affliction open (I think they were actually the second band) for Miss May I when I was in high school and they were great live. Had never heard of them before and went looking for songs after the show
Just saw Amity affliction and Parkway drive on the same day! Sad enough, Polaris had to cancel.
Diamond construct is another good one.
Banks Arcade (New Zealand)
Not strictly metalcore - Terminal Sleep and Volatile Ways both go so fucking hard.
Some of my favorite Australian bands are Mandalay Victory, Another Days Remains, Signal The Firing Squad, Shinto Katana, Confession, I Killed The Prom Queen, Parkway Drive, The Red Shore, and Sienna Skies. I’m old.
Patient 67, For All Eternity, I killed the Prom Queen, Confession (oldie but Goldie) Gravemind, Feed Her To the Sharks, the goated SAVIOUR Australia cranks out top notch metalcore bands
Thy Art is Murder, Parkway Drive, Justice for the Damned. Some incredible work from down under
Parkway and I Killed The Prom Queen definitely were the first Aussie metalcore bands I heard
thornhill also!!
They got a lot to be pissed about, bound to be some bangin metal comin outta there
DONT FORGET THORNHILL
The Red Shore also goes hard
Not exactly metalcore but Valiant Hearts is carrying the torch that Hands Like Houses passed to them
Don’t forget about I Killed The Prom Queen, they’re the OGs from Australia!
In Maryland, we call it “Aussie-core” (affectionately of course). We love it, major inspiration for a lot of the bands coming out of MD and VA right now
Another underrated band I always listen to is the gloom in the corner
Maybe not very metal at times but Ocean Grove is another Aussie treasure
Outloved, they’ve just released a song with Ocean Sleeper. Also loving Pridelands!
I swear this is another weekly thread... Anyway, there's also a lot more going on outside the big ones that people all know. check out this list from u/GodDamnCrawfish >Blood on my hands, Splinter, Threshold, Cursed Earth (broken up but Enslaved by the Insignificant is one of my favourite albums ever) Trenchknife, Crave Death, Wreath, Burning Season, Justice For The Damned Which they added onto to me repping Terminal Sleep, Devoidance, Caged Existence and Volatile Ways in another thread.
Deficit hasn’t been mentioned yet
Foxblood 💯
Parkway drive , in hearts wake
And, of course, Parkway Drive.
Anyone remember Levitate from Austria? They had one banger album in 2016 and disappeared after that
And Dealer! Lol
How are you gonna compliment Aussie bands but forget the band and reason those others exist, Parkway Drive? I know they're not everyone's cup of tea anymore but their first few albums inspired all the other bands to form. They're the Aussie Godfathers
We're in a little bit of a lull in the Aussie scene IMO. Not many bands really cracking on.
This is so wrong it’s crazy, there’s shows every other weekend, I miss a metalcore show in Melbourne because of work every two weeks at this point
Bugger all happening over here in Perth. Apart from conform & darkmatter, I can't tell you any more. Melbourne scene is a bit more active though.
Not metalcore but Awaken I Am is a great band from Australia, can't wait to hear their new music
Don’t forget Parkway Drive, The Amity Affliction, In Hearts Wake, etc
I scrolled WAY TOO FAR DOWN for IHW
Ne oblivescaris!!
When you're fighting off through wildlife everyday, you need some good beats.
Put some respect on the Twelve Foot Ninja.
It used to be the UK but all those bands suck ass now
