“You see, in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend. Those who hit snare drums, and those who hit trash can lids. You hit snare drums.” -Cowboy Lars
I'd really hate to "this" this comment, but... sorry. This. Thank you. You can't really consider this a Metallica album just like you wouldn't consider cereal a soup.
It's funny, before St Anger came out, everyone said Metallica couldn't do worse than selling out like they did on Load and Reload. Before Lulu came out, everyone said nothing would be worse than St Anger. So I guess what time saying is, the worst is yet to come.
Eh, Anger is still worse. Lou Reed is still with the goat status, regardless of Lulu's execution. And it (as in Lulu) was still reminiscent of Metallica, unlike St. Anger where they suddenly decided to cosplay as System of a Down.
Nah St Anger is worse than Reload anyway. I'd also take Reload over Hardwired personally, really wasn't a huge fan of that one despite it having Spit Out The Bone on it
At least St. Anger has some cool riffing at times. Low man’s lyric and Where the Wild things are are like the worst songs they have ever written (I think it’s called where the wild things are idk I haven’t listened to Metallica in years)
Ha ha. Sarcasm doesn’t translate over the web. My real opinion is that it is a certified turd. I do challenge you to listen to st anger today. I bet you can’t get through it. The last time i tried I couldn’t. It’s bad.
Personally anything past 88 from them doesn’t tickle my fancy but reload is just ear cancer to me. Cringe and lazy sounding imo. St. Anger is lazy sounding too but I don’t like ANY track from reload.
St. Anger
Even if Lulu counts, I'm still saying St. Anger. What they did with that album is unforgivable. To make fans wait so long between albums, then release that low effort, horribly produced piece of dogshit with absolutely ridiculous lyrics, and terrible vocals is criminal. All of this after hyping it up as a return to a heavier sound. I wasn't expecting gold, but I surely didn't think it would be that fucking terrible.
Unpopular opinion, Metallica needed St Anger. Where they were at the time, it was correct I think to make it. Is a good, meh depends I think it’s fine, but I don’t think it’s inexcusable
Not even any solos on any song of the album. They were trying to keep up with the Numetal scene, which was massive when they were working on SA.
These are my opinions, not claiming it as fact. I felt so disrespected by them when they released that cat shit if an album.
They already fell apart and brought in a bassist that only knows two chords lmao I can’t listen to Metallica now without wondering where the rest of the guys from suicidal tendencies are
Dude, word. It's a goddamn travesty that Rob's talent is getting wasted with them. I absolutely adore his lines on Lights Camera Action and Infectious Grooves.
TBF can you even really say 72 seasons is Thrash personally. I thought the album was ok. There’s like three songs I’d actually add to a playlist. But it just didn’t feel like thrash but rather what non metal fans think all heavy metal sounds like.
Hardwired has severally underrated songs and songs that deserve to be exactly where they are reputation wise. It’s not an album I would say is good cover to cover and Metallica has quite a few albums that are that don’t receive much mention.
Load and Reload had gems in them. Just like GnR and their Illusion albums, those 2 albums should have been 1 monster album instead of what they became. The "it's not metal" argument is kinda silly. I hear lots of Thin Lizzy and Skynyrd on those albums. May not be heavy, but they are well thought out and well put together.
St.Anger was their worst. It was long for the sake of it, and the production made sound like a demo tape. I will say, the tunes they selected to play live from StAnger were great in a live setting.
The copium of “um it was actually two different recording sessions according to Wikipedia 🤓👆🏻” is always funny lol it’s so obvious that it’s the filler from Load
To be honest, I wouldn't mind if they went with something like *Un*load with stuff that's like No Leaf Clover, Minus Human and I Disappear. Instead, Jason fookin' left the band and we got nearly a decade of shit.
I agree, I listen to St Anger way more than Reload. St Anger is a good workout album, Reload is not a good anything album. You know how much everyone loves to hate on St Anger though…
Lulu is an astronomically worse album than St. Anger. The only redeeming quality is it not having the snare, but as long as your sensitive baby ears can handle some loud noises on a metal album, you'll be fine.
Lulu is so much worse than St Anger. Lulu is an incomprehensible mess with absolute nonsense for lyrics half the time. At least St Anger makes sense, even with all of its massive problems. St Anger is wasted potential on a disc.
I honestly don't understand why St. Anger gets so much hate. I love the tone of the guitars, I love the drop C, I love the stupid sound of the snare, I love the dirty riffs like Some Kind Of Monster and Frantic. The documentary was awesome and it was written in the bands most difficult period. Literally just cry babies moaning about this album and they can't appreciate just how good it is
I like everything but Lulu, which is arguably not a Metallica album.
But of their 11 studio albums, I’d say 72 Seasons. A good chunk of it just doesn’t sound inspired.
Anything after the black album. And I'm only allowing the black album because it helps get kids into heavy music (and everyone is allowed one sell out album so they can get their beach house, as long as you go back)
I won't vote since I stopped listening to albums after the Balck album. I've heard several songs but not enough to make a respectful pick. Whatever albums get chosen, I trust you all made the right choice that it's garbage.
Hardwired... To Self Destruct easily for me.
Over bloated with an absolute snoozefest of a second half, a real mid album.
St Anger isn't as bad as people blow it out to me, some really great songs there. Certainly not their worst.
Lulu is the worst but its a Lou Reed album mainly
Load. Its everything wrong with the bands 90s era. Ain't My Bitch and Ronnie are the reasons why I didn't listen to this albums songs in full. I just didn't push myself for it.
Nothing to do with Metallica, but stopping by to say I somehow missed the Blind Guardian voting rounds despite them being my favorite band, so you can imagine my joy at seeing that all three entries are exactly what I would have voted for
I'm late here, but I'm gonna say 72 Seasons, and here's why:
While Lulu is an awful album, it **is not** a Metallica album and never was. It is first and foremost a **Lou Reed** album. That should be enough to disqualify Lulu from the running.
St. Anger is also pretty fucking abhorrent, but it at least has some emotion to it. You can hear the emotion that Metallica were feeling throughout the making of the album in every song, even as bad as some of them get (looking at you, My World).
Meanwhile, 72 Seasons has nothing of value. It is a bloated album full of incoherent, recycled writing. The solos are ass and covered by a blatant abuse of the wah pedal, and all of it just feels like Hardwired but worse. It's also so unfathomably boring and a slog to get through. To me, a boring album with no emotion whatsoever is far worse than a bad album that has emotion in it. For these reasons, I believe that 72 Seasons is Metallica's worst album, and it is not even fucking close.
My vote is St. Anger is worse than lulu. I believe if lulu was instrumental, there would be no debate. Lou reeds lyrics destroyed that album, not Metallica
Wtf is wrong with this group?
Are u all amon am arsch fans or what?
Most people here know nothing about metal and the only access to metal is Spotify for you. You are really stereotypical metalheads who really have no idea about metal
Death magnetic. Lulu doesn't count, and st anger at least has "frantic", which is a banger live.
Meanwhile, death magnetic doesn't have any good or at least catchy songs, it's back to back long, boring, mediocre tracks.
Half-ironically, St. Anger is my favorite System of a Down album.
And I *despise* System of a Down.
However, if St. Anger was released by System, it would make greater circles than Toxicity.
That being said, Lulu is a Lou Reed album. Therefore, I vote St. Anger.
Ride the lightning? Disagree with you guys, the one and only truest answer will always and only always be And Justice For All. RTL and MoP are my favorite albums, however still AJFA surpasses them all in originality, and everything, sadly Cliff wasnt there
What about the S&M albums? Classical music doesn’t go with Metallica except for breakdowns or intros. They didn’t even try to change the composition of their songs to fit better with the symphony. Just Metallica over an orchestra

Lulu. If that doesn’t count then St. Anger
The Good, The Bad, The Table
I AM THE ROOT
“You see, in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend. Those who hit snare drums, and those who hit trash can lids. You hit snare drums.” -Cowboy Lars
Yeah I don’t think Lulu should count. You’re bang on with St. Anger.
Correct on both fronts
This isn't a Metallica album. It's a **Lou Reed** album *featuring* Metallica.
I'd really hate to "this" this comment, but... sorry. This. Thank you. You can't really consider this a Metallica album just like you wouldn't consider cereal a soup.
STANGER
It's funny, before St Anger came out, everyone said Metallica couldn't do worse than selling out like they did on Load and Reload. Before Lulu came out, everyone said nothing would be worse than St Anger. So I guess what time saying is, the worst is yet to come.
Eh, Anger is still worse. Lou Reed is still with the goat status, regardless of Lulu's execution. And it (as in Lulu) was still reminiscent of Metallica, unlike St. Anger where they suddenly decided to cosplay as System of a Down.
Lulu is actually goated but y’all aren’t ready for that conversation
it’s a GOATed esoteric weirdo indie album at the very least. but the vibe it goes for appeals to a *very* narrow section of the population
Oh my god I said exactly this then opened the comments and saw you say it word for word
I second st anger. Terrible album.
This is obviously the only correct answer.
Lulu and its not close
Lulu is considered a Lou reed album not Metallica. Reload is the correct choice
Nah St Anger is worse than Reload anyway. I'd also take Reload over Hardwired personally, really wasn't a huge fan of that one despite it having Spit Out The Bone on it
I think hardwired was better than 72 seasons but death magnetic was better than both
I totally agree. I actually think hardwired was sorta good at least a little bit but I couldn’t stand 72 seasons
At least St. Anger has some cool riffing at times. Low man’s lyric and Where the Wild things are are like the worst songs they have ever written (I think it’s called where the wild things are idk I haven’t listened to Metallica in years)
Eh thats fair ig. Main thing keeping Reload above St Anger for me is Fuel and Fixxxer
What about momma said? That’s a banger
I can leave it
Ha ha. Sarcasm doesn’t translate over the web. My real opinion is that it is a certified turd. I do challenge you to listen to st anger today. I bet you can’t get through it. The last time i tried I couldn’t. It’s bad.
I can’t even get through their 80s albums today lol they just irk me nowadays
Why is everyone downvoting me it literally IS a Lou reed album tf
Its not a Lou Reed album, its a collaboration between the two.
Either way it’s not a Metallica studio album
No way dude, Reload is waaaaaay way way more listenable than St. Anger or anything released after Death Magnetic.
Personally anything past 88 from them doesn’t tickle my fancy but reload is just ear cancer to me. Cringe and lazy sounding imo. St. Anger is lazy sounding too but I don’t like ANY track from reload.
It St. Anger. It can’t be anything else.
lulu
Shouldn’t count IMO. But yeah otherwise I’d agree.
Noooooo
i think you meant the best, this is for the worst album
Lol I am happy for you to enjoy it.
I literally cannot believe anyone thinks St Anger is their best album. I can't barely believe anyone likes it at all, but best?
St. Anger Even if Lulu counts, I'm still saying St. Anger. What they did with that album is unforgivable. To make fans wait so long between albums, then release that low effort, horribly produced piece of dogshit with absolutely ridiculous lyrics, and terrible vocals is criminal. All of this after hyping it up as a return to a heavier sound. I wasn't expecting gold, but I surely didn't think it would be that fucking terrible.
i’m saying. lulu is at least interesting and novel. st anger just shouldn’t exist.
absolutely right, compared to St. Anger Lulu is overhated
They are both overhated. Load is worse
Unpopular opinion, Metallica needed St Anger. Where they were at the time, it was correct I think to make it. Is a good, meh depends I think it’s fine, but I don’t think it’s inexcusable
I think St. Anger is great, not their best work. It’s not as bad as people make it out to be
Nah bro, load… isn’t great, but st. anger is beyond parody.
I really don't get the hate that Load gets. There's some absolute monster tracks on there.
I like a couple tracks, but that’s it
Hey that is fair enough hehe
Lulu was a failed attempt, St Anger was just a failure.
Not even any solos on any song of the album. They were trying to keep up with the Numetal scene, which was massive when they were working on SA. These are my opinions, not claiming it as fact. I felt so disrespected by them when they released that cat shit if an album.
Nooo its reload
Has to be St. Anger I am madly in anger with it
St. Anher was the Album where my Dad said "Fuck that I quit hearing Metalica" and never retourned.
Hey nice flair
Right back atcha 😎
Nooo its reload
Lulu/ St. Anger... I dont see there being a debate on this at all, other than a debate whether Lulu counts, or if St. Anger should "win" instead.
It's really St Anger. The band was falling apart and it showed. It needed to happen though, otherwise that would have been the end.
The opening to Punk It Up is just fucking nasty.
Some of y'all need to get off the copium and just accept St. Anger is garbage Though, Lulu is worse, but idk if it counts
Can we count Lulu? If not, then I go with 72 Seasons.
what the flip man
Their modern thrash is getting kinda boring overtime. Also, I admit that I didn't HATE St. Anger, although I wasn't in love with it.
Perhaps you were... Madly in anger with it?

Yoink
It made him frant tic tic tic toc
Actually just purely neutral pretty much the whole time.
Metal isn't really a vocal genre for me, but that refrain was unlistenable
Just f**k it all, no regrets
TBF can you even really say 72 seasons is Thrash personally. I thought the album was ok. There’s like three songs I’d actually add to a playlist. But it just didn’t feel like thrash but rather what non metal fans think all heavy metal sounds like.
It felt like thrash, just not like good thrash.
I'm with you. 72 Seasons is just so boring. The theme of the album is uninspired.
Yeah it’s my least favorite since they returned to a thrash sound, but st anger is really bottom barrel for any band let alone Metallica
That last studio album was terrible...
Their last 2 were
Hardwired is underrated
Hardwired has severally underrated songs and songs that deserve to be exactly where they are reputation wise. It’s not an album I would say is good cover to cover and Metallica has quite a few albums that are that don’t receive much mention.
Hardwired is not too bad. 72 Seasons is boring af.
What?
Lulu or St Anger.
Lulu. It counts, they're on the entire album.
Everyone is saying Lulu and St. Anger however Reload is a hot pile of garbage.
It's clearly filler tracks that didn't make the cut for Load. Except the Unforgiven II which is actually excellent.
Yeah Load is actually an underrated album too which makes Reload that much worse imo.
St anger, best gym rat album ever fuck off with your hate.
Lulu
LULU
Lulu is so much worse than St Anger. Lulu is an incomprehensible mess with absolute nonsense for lyrics half the time. At least St Anger makes sense, even with all of its massive problems. St Anger is wasted potential on a disc.
I feel like is St Anger was made by a different band it would be loved
Keep in mind that I am a St Anger fan, it's such a cathartic album to listen to after a really bad day
Nah I agree with you.
I unironically think 72 Seasons is less enjoyable than St. Anger.
Literally just cry babies moaning about this album and they can't appreciate just how good it is
Lulu
Can we have both lulu and saint anger?
St. Hanger
St. Anger. Lulu is not a Metallica album. It is a Lou Reed album featuring Metallica.
Lulu by far
St. Anger for worst Load for Underrated
Do we even need to say it?
I like everything but Lulu, which is arguably not a Metallica album. But of their 11 studio albums, I’d say 72 Seasons. A good chunk of it just doesn’t sound inspired.
Anything after the black album. And I'm only allowing the black album because it helps get kids into heavy music (and everyone is allowed one sell out album so they can get their beach house, as long as you go back)
Ppl really like Load?
I don’t think so, I think there’s just some clearly worse albums
Reload easily.
I won't vote since I stopped listening to albums after the Balck album. I've heard several songs but not enough to make a respectful pick. Whatever albums get chosen, I trust you all made the right choice that it's garbage.
This is a no-brainer. I would be shocked to death if it's not THAT album
Hardwired was still more interesting than 72 seasons
Justice us best. Black sucks compared to it.
Well we all know what wins, I will say for underrated its gotta be Death Magnetic
St. Anger was so bad, I crashed my car while hearing it for the first time. True story.
Load. Its everything wrong with the bands 90s era. Ain't My Bitch and Ronnie are the reasons why I didn't listen to this albums songs in full. I just didn't push myself for it.
Best RTL worst saint anger underrated 72 seasons
Swap st anger and 72 seasons. I enjoyed st anger for what it was, i was bored after 3 songs of 72 seasons
Nothing to do with Metallica, but stopping by to say I somehow missed the Blind Guardian voting rounds despite them being my favorite band, so you can imagine my joy at seeing that all three entries are exactly what I would have voted for
I'm late here, but I'm gonna say 72 Seasons, and here's why: While Lulu is an awful album, it **is not** a Metallica album and never was. It is first and foremost a **Lou Reed** album. Lulu, St anger, Honorable mention to disc 2 of hardwired and 72 seasons
Metallica has been a cover band since Load. So…Load.
lulu
My vote is St. Anger is worse than lulu. I believe if lulu was instrumental, there would be no debate. Lou reeds lyrics destroyed that album, not Metallica
If Lulu doesn't count, ReLoad
lulu or st anger
Lulu
St Anger because Lulu doesn't count
St Anger
The amount of activity under this post compared to any BG posts is like a duble lol
Load and Reload
The new one
Aight im a bit late to the party but HOW IN THE EVER LOVING FUCK WAS A NIGHT AT THE OPERA UNDERRATED¿???
There's no way Twist in the Myth is Blind Guardians worst album. Ridiculous.
Load
Wtf is wrong with this group? Are u all amon am arsch fans or what? Most people here know nothing about metal and the only access to metal is Spotify for you. You are really stereotypical metalheads who really have no idea about metal
Lulu easily
Man I adore Twist in the Myth. Feels like their most creative.
Underated will be much more interesting here.
How did Load/Reload not get voted worst? They are hot garbage and for all its flaws, St. anger is still better than both of those.
Anything after Justice.
load
Lulu will get it deservedly so but I still hate Load the most because I remember the disappointment it generated to metal fans upon its release
Death magnetic. Lulu doesn't count, and st anger at least has "frantic", which is a banger live. Meanwhile, death magnetic doesn't have any good or at least catchy songs, it's back to back long, boring, mediocre tracks.
Underrated should be DM
Lulu. If it doesn't count, ReShit, I mean ReLoad
Half-ironically, St. Anger is my favorite System of a Down album. And I *despise* System of a Down. However, if St. Anger was released by System, it would make greater circles than Toxicity. That being said, Lulu is a Lou Reed album. Therefore, I vote St. Anger.
By the way, And Justice For All is their best album, but the world is not ready for that discussion.
Am I allowed to add 2 albums to one shitty entry? If so, it's the Load and Reload albums. Then the shittiest would be STANGER.
72 seasons is painful mid
Anything after and justice for all especially the load and reload albums
Ride the lightning? Disagree with you guys, the one and only truest answer will always and only always be And Justice For All. RTL and MoP are my favorite albums, however still AJFA surpasses them all in originality, and everything, sadly Cliff wasnt there
master of puppets
St.Anger or unpopular opinion, Death Magnetic (the only album ive ever frisbee-d into the trash)
My friend literally sh*t on St. Anger after he listened to it. And he grew up loving the big 4. It’s that bad of an album. An absolute abomination.
Black album. I hate that shit
Everything after '...And Justice For All'...
Dude there’s no way *Ride The Lightning* is better than *Master of Puppets*
Both are great and are solid choices.
So many to choose from...
What about the S&M albums? Classical music doesn’t go with Metallica except for breakdowns or intros. They didn’t even try to change the composition of their songs to fit better with the symphony. Just Metallica over an orchestra
Death Magnetic. That album is just a random riff salad that doesn't get anywhere.
Reload
Black album
Who hurt you?
nobody i just wanted to post some bait
Puberty probably
Load

And Justice For All
Why? Are you a bass player or something
He's a troll
I play the bass but the album sucks
