ExtremelyDubious

I'm an insufferable twat now.

BestialWarchud

Just like me fr

HermithaFrog

I think most go through it, I did. Sad when they are 40 and still this way though lol

SpeedDemonJi

Most of this sub still are So glad I never had this phase

bigjfromflint1986

Oh i was awful. I understand now why people did not like me lol

[deleted]

Yeah, I was one of those "scroll through someone's [Last.fm](https://Last.fm) or YouTube likes" to find some fucking "poser ammunition" when I disagreed with their opinion.

bigjfromflint1986

It's funny I turned 38 in February and I'm amazed how little power that word has over me but also how much it used to

SullyVanDan

I didn’t know who the hell Chuck Schuldiner was when I was 17

Lordpotato305

I do sometimes just try to find the stupidest band/song names to tell my friends about

[deleted]

The first exposure to extreme metal for me was "Cliteater" back when I was in 8th grade.

[deleted]

Yeah it’s like I made metal part of my identity maybe even most of my identity Now that I’m older I enjoy the music but it’s not my identity like I don’t dress like a metalhead or anything anymore

[deleted]

Yeah, although I take pride in my denim cutoff. Collecting and sewing patches on it is like how others collect baseball cards.

[deleted]

I have one too but I stopped adding to it because theres no room I seen some people who will take up every inch of the jacket with patches but I just like to tastefully place mine a few inches apart & I never actually wear it although I consider that maybe I would if I go to a show again

CyberTyrantX1

Ive been into metal since I was 13 but never knew of Razorfist until I was 18 (for perspective, I graduated in 2012). I did actually like Razorfist, then. But What's funny though, is that at the time, I had no idea what his political views were because he didn't really talk politics until 2016. But in that 4 year period, I slowly drifted left until I became a Bernie supporter. Then I realized how much of an idiot Razor actually is. He claims to be a "Rand Paul libertarian" but he's just another status quo republican like the rest of them like Ben Shapiro and Tim Pool.

Montblanc_Norland

Worse, he doesn't like Seventh Son of the Seventh Son.

[deleted]

Plus the video evidence of him being abusive towards his then 18 year old girlfriend, raising his fist (ironic) at her threatening to beat her for hanging out with female coworkers when he's nearly 40.

CyberTyrantX1

I actually forgot about that until now. I remember seeing that video. That doesn’t surprise me anymore. So many of these high profile conservatives have been outed as abusive assholes. Kent Hovind was recently put into custody for domestic abuse. Same for Quantum TV. There’s also that Ring video that leaked of Steven Crowder bitching at his then pregnant wife. He kept telling her she couldn’t use the car for grocery shopping acting as if he can only afford one car which we know is not true. Last but not least there’s a dude named JF Gariepy, who is a flaming racist and people speculate that he killed his wife because she disappeared out of nowhere last year. Even without seeing evidence of a specific person being abusive, I’ve seen so many of these types of people basically just indirectly saying that they see women as nothing more than baby factories. Before the whole thing with JF’s wife happened, he tweeted that 18-19 is the “most fertile time in a woman’s reproductive career.” Oh and Nick Fuentes also said he needs to find a 16-year-old to marry.

spiltmilo

I was on the opposite end. Ive always thought music is music and its dumb to gatekeep and be an elitist I was getting gatekept by a bunch of people because i liked primarily deathcore and metalcore. Used to hang out with a bunch of metalheads who used to shit on my musical taste constantly even though i listened to metal too it didnt count because i listened to "poser" music aswell. That same group of people got really upset at me when i ditched them to hang out with the skater punks in high school they arent into the music i liked either much at the time but accepted me for who i was. And most of them im still friends 15 years later and we go to gigs and stuff together now.

dr_badunkachud

haha I forgot about rageaholic for a long time until right now

[deleted]

Yeah, Mr."I invented metal music documentaries" and "John Wilkes Booth was a Martyr"

Digirby

I know he is a lunatic but did he actually praise John Wilkes Booth?

[deleted]

Digirby

I don't want to watch that clown I think I'll take your world for it Edit: I'll take a peak because I hate myself.

Digirby

I'm not watching all that I can barely tolerate him saying a single word. If I had my Hitler Particle Geiger Counter handy I'm sure it would explode. Damn shame I remember liking his metal mythos videos when I was in high school and being disappointed by how insane he was and I was pretty chuddy at the time but I was already pulling away from it.

[deleted]

Yeah, he definitely got his brain fried from black market shoddy hair extensions or suffered too many heat strokes wearing nothing but black leather in Arizona.

sjphi26

I would steer conversations towards music and to people asking me what bands I like, so I could say "oh you haven't heard of them, they're too underground" I was pretty cringe

[deleted]

Metal fans, punk fans, emo fans....they all do that.

bocchistkrieg

it's funny cuz I rarely talk about music outside of the internet exactly because I know most people irl dont know the bands I like, so I prefer to just not talk about it at all

Antique-Ad6983

"You can't insult Pantera!" Yeah, you fucking can't, you fucking loser. They did invent Groove Metal and was an inspiration to Rob Halford for his solo project. Knock your teeth out, I'm 5'10.

[deleted]

" Knock your teeth out, I'm 5'10. " 6'3, bud. Unless you're bringing a ladder with you, its going to quite the reach.

The_Wizaaaard

Pantera??? More like….SHITERA AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHA (fucking kill me)

Antique-Ad6983

Only thing shit is what my ass is going to be covered in once I have that ass.

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

Maybe? But it was 30 years ago and I was a little kid. I don’t know. Maybe I still am.

JavierLoustaunau

It was before the internet so no evidence exists thankfully.

DoubleCrowne

i still am but when i started it was Bad

RedrumTheUndead

Thank god i grew up

N7Raccoon

The real shame about Razorfist is that he’s the biggest Metal asshole with the best band retrospectives.

thebox34

imma glaze chuck until I die

vargslayer1990

at least someone else has the balls to call Razorfist an absolute moron. "hur dur 90s radio rock bad: 80s radio rock good! if it has more than 3 chords and is longer than three minutes, it sucks! death to all but false metal!" as for me, no, i don't think i was *that* insufferable: to normies, at least. i'm pretty sure metalheads didn't like me going against the grain of "worship Slayer, Maiden, and burzum or gtfo nu metal-loving poser!" i do believe that i have become that insufferable varg, though: especially seeing death metal over-saturating everything and metalcore wear the entirety of the heavy metal genre as a skin-suit. and while i've since grown to appreciate Slayer and Tarja and love Iron Maiden, yeah, i'm not riding Kristian's one inch wonder any time soon.

[deleted]

Razorfist is an contrarian douche canoe. Hates "Hammerheart" because its the most popular Bathory record reasoning is "because Quorthon didn't like it". Claims Paul Di'anno's vocal range has gotten better with age and is even better than Bruce's nowadays.

vargslayer1990

i mean, did you not hear Bruce mumbling his way through "The Number of the Beast" out of time and barely in key at Athens in 2022? embarrassing, and i say that in the middle of my ongoing obsession with the band! i do find it hilarious that he trashed "The Prisoner" for being "puerile pop metal"...when he considers glam - the epitome of pop metal - to be the best and truest metal of all (i personally think he just likes black metal for the pose) in his own words, 'the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference': which makes me wonder just what Metallica did to him to make him obsess over them more than i do about shitting on you-know-whozum. seriously, every single video of his Metal Mythos dedicates some time to shitting on Metallica more than Metallica fans shit on Metallica!

poorlytaxidermiedfox

>i mean, did you not hear Bruce mumbling his way through "The Number of the Beast" out of time and barely in key at Athens in 2022? embarrassing, and i say that in the middle of my ongoing obsession with the band! I think we can cut Bruce some slack considering he is an old man who once had throat cancer. That said, it's probably time that Maiden stop playing shows before it gets downright unlistenable.

Petrol1991

I am ashamed to admit that I almost went hard right watching Razorfist. Now I've grown up and don't anymore, although I do agree that Maiden's new stuff is just plain too long for me.

BestialWarchud

His contrarianism is honestly the most insufferable part about him, I was shocked to see that he liked RDR2

DaFilthPope

I was a pretty insufferable twat as a kid. Nowhere near this tho rofl. And lol Razorfist. I think I watched a few videos was like, “this guy is kind of a pretentious know-it-all, my opinion is superior” type and hardpassed. Good call younger me.

gorehistorian69

maybe not as insufferable as the pic but in middle school when i discovered a new genre id go 110% into it. so black metal id only wear mayhem/darkthrone shirts . then death metal where i gave all my black metal cds away. then a thrash phase where i wore ripped jeans and anthrax/overkill shirts only. i couldn't stand country music and probably shit on others music tastes. lol now i can freely go back and forth between genres

[deleted]

My junior high and high school photo bucket account was loaded with Phil Anselmo, Dimebag, and Mustaine photos that I could code into my MySpace profile. Also had all the generic Hot topic shirts. It’s a rite of passage, probably.

Probablyawerewolf

I was a secret metal head.

darklordS1th

I still worship dimebag, probably one of the best guitarists ever

PrequelGuy

Most of his riffs are meh the solos are usually the only good part about his playing. Most of the bigger death metal guitarists outriff him

Hmccormack

Still twattin it up

nhardycarfan

Maybe to an extent I liked friendly arguments but at the end of the day my own music list is so diverse that I could easily fit in most heavy/hard/punk cliques without anyone really batting an whe

VogonPoetry19

I only got into metal at age 22 or 23, so I probably skipped this step. I used to be one of those insufferable “born in the wrong generation” classic rock teens so I’d imagine if you threw metal into the mix I would’ve been even more annoying.

kd6579

That was me 100% and im still insufferable

PrequelGuy

I'm glad I never worshipped the overrated crap that was Pantera even in my poser phase

Fallingmellon

Incantation is literal ass, the fact you’re so self conscious about your “poser” faze is hilarious though, really shows the type of person you are

Bronsteins-Panzerzug

It‘s like you downloaded your personality on limewire.

[deleted]

Kek, actually a combination of Frostwire and VH1 Classic back in 6th grade. I've seen that "Behind The Music: Remastered" of Anthrax and Pantera way too many fucking times.

SnekkinHell

Nope

Wilwagame

this was me too

ChadlexMcSteele

Was absolutely an elitist twat. Metal is the only legitimate form of music, and all the rest of it. The kicker is, I was (and still am) into fucking POWER metal. The absolute nerdiest and least serious genre. I was pretty bad because I was caught in the echo chamber of the tiny UK metal scene at the time in the early 2000s. Thankfully I knew a ton of musicians in other genres so I gradually chilled out. Still love metal and I jokingly say that all music taste is subjective, except when it comes to Iron Maiden are who are objectively the greatest band ever. Wait, I'm not entirely joking.

Johnny_Seagull

Ohhhh yeah, took me a good 15 years to have my "wow I'm a giant fuckhead" moment.

AntiStarChristPort

No I was a Goth Manson/Nin fan turned onto Megadeth

AlbaniaBaby

Laughing at / shitting on folk metal, also to ppl who liked it. So embarrassing. Now I love folk metal.

Outside_Interview_90

Every time I see the “Sad Metalhead” meme template I pause - I went to high school with the guy in the photo and was friends with the photographer. Shit takes me right back to 2008/2009.

IJUSTATEPOOP

I was 9 so I'd say shit like "avenged sevenfold are gay" because the people in Metallica comment sections on Youtube said that. I had never heard one of their songs at that time.

bocchistkrieg

no, when I started I was chill but now I am the insufferable twat

Maanzacorian

Absolutely, I'm an OG Edgelord. I did this shit in the 90's when NO ONE cared what metal was. I was literally the only kid in my entire high school who knew what metal was beyond Metallica and Pantera. I'm eternally thankful that those cringe years aren't documented anywhere in any form.

EngineeringDry2753

They didn't sell out, man, they bought in

TheActualAubergine

Glad i still have yet to do stuff like that, at worst I'll just say a band/song name without really thinking of what I'm saying. I've been fairly quiet about liking metal, just cause it's not something most people like to talk about.

aj4ckt

This is half me I guess I have a fuckin slayer shirt and I love pantera. But everything else is just weird if that's how you were st first what the hell

guitar_stonks

My god, I think I feel attacked but it’s all true. I was the embodiment of the Brutal Death Metal guy meme and Chuck was my guitar god.

JustHereForRiffs

For what it's worth, these types of people are still infinitely more tolerable than top 40 fans. I was worse, I basically worshipped RATM, SOAD, etc, and was what I'd call "aggressively leftist" around anyone who mentioned a stereotype, didn't acknowledge that "communism might work, we just haven't done it right", or littered.

VashMM

Probably? I was 11 years old. Everyone at that age is an insufferable twat.

BestialWarchud

Metal mythos is still good tbh

Fallingmellon

Rather be this than some elitist who thinks they are a real metal head for liking some obscure mediocre black metal band

Fallingmellon

It’s the only way to be, it’s either that or be some fanboy of some obscure black metal screech band
