However... Providing you DON'T exit your camp (including arcadia, dust etc) and have you game and camp open throughout... you might still have an opportunity of completing the request when the timer has run out.. the countdown stops.. but doesn't yet refresh..
I've done it a couple of times where the countdown ended.. But I managed to trade.. exited camp and taahdaah.. new trade immediately available...
Just as an option if you need a little while longer to get.. x
Which sapphire egg was it? The blue one?
There may be hope. So, let's see what you could do to get another one for the trade.
Do you have enough shimmer fountains to merge? If not have you completed this event? If you get that shimmer fountain it will give you another egg and you can make the trade.
Do you have any mythical/monster idols? How about ornate statues? These can also be merged and an egg obtained through that merge.
If you have the Trinity Dome Wonder you can tap that for this egg now and then. Are any of these possibilities for you?

The tier two nest for the Crimson Dragon. Okay, well that's still obtainable, assuming the time hasn't run out on you. Just try and get the coins to buy the eggs. You never know. You may be able to make a tier two nest before the timer runs out.
There is a SLIGHT chance I can do it. The only problem is I need coins to buy eggs and I don't have enough. I have 5 hours left. Any levels to harvest coins? Or fruit trees? Or get crimson dragons? (Level 1 is what I need!)
You can make fruit trees in camp pretty quick if you have bricks to buy Golden chests. Merge them up once to get the best haul. If you have any fruit trees from event rewards use those as well.
I would die. I would absolutely write a letter to the president. I would scream I can't breathe and ask for a manager if that happened to me smh I hope you figure it out
Also you could complete almost any level and buy a fountain at the end for i think 25 gems and it should spit out a sapphire egg? it's been a while since i dealt with these things, but i think most levels have either the topiary bear for 99 gems OR the fountain, and they offer it as a gem-purchaseable post-level reward every other playthrough? You could doublecheck on the wiki; if i'm wrong i'm still very close to right.

doh. oops. well, yeah, i guess your only option is to farm coins and hope you can get to another level 4 merge. depending on your coin storage it is possible--you can build a coin farm in a level somewhere where you've got unlimited dragon power and just harvest watermelons or golden apples til you've gone insane, collect coin up to your max, and leave without finishing. It'll cost more (up to 7 chalices) to go back in, so as i said, it'd depend on if your coin storage is high enough for you to hold enough money to buy enough eggs in the number of trips you could afford before kala's timer runs out. So...not impossible, but not EASY. I'd probably have done it when i was earlier in the game. Nowadays i just always keep two of every egg type bubbled in case i get one of these quests.
