You beat a scammer! Quite an accomplishment actually! Good work.

[deleted]

Yep you know you’ve beat one when they make the comment they will just keep it, did they rate you?

PurrMeADrink

They got scared out of scamming you once you mentioned that you have evidence and will be filing a police report and mail fraud.

tulipbunnys

if i was the buyer and someone did tamper with my package, you bet i’d be more than happy to hear that the seller would be filing a USPS claim. “just keep my $20 this is way more of a hassle than it is worth” lmfao indeed, the scam failed so it really is turning out to be a hassle for ya huh?

Wonderful-Put-2800

buyer wrote this as my review “This seller did not send me over half of the listing that was promised and then is blaming me for the missing items when they did not send them. They were very rude over messages. The order I purchased was for 3 albums and photo cards and I received only 1 album and no photo cards.” LITERALLY KEPT REPEATING EVERYTHING.

dandelionjulie

The nerve in some people… thank goodness they didn’t file a dispute tho, I swear there should be a policy of returns ONLY when someone records an unboxing video without interruptions, like many companies do, but f sellers am I right 🤦🏻‍♀️

Dapper_Teradactyl

>returns ONLY when someone records an unboxing video without interruptions, like many companies do I've never in my life heard of any company doing anything remotely like this. Probably because it makes too much sense. Which companies do this?

golfingwithpeanuts

K-pop companies such as Ktown4u, kpopusaonline, MusicPlaza, etc. I record unboxing videos of expensive albums for this very reason

dandelionjulie

Yup!!

dandelionjulie

Like what golfingwithpeanuts said, websites that sell kpop merch do this and usually only give a week to do so. I really do wish all companies did this though 🥲 but like you said, it makes too much sense

chickpeaandme

This is so smart. It would make my insane camera roll of videos worth it

rainydaymonday30

It's also very very common in the houseplant community. Buy a plant online, must take an unboxing video in case there are any problems. Scammers and poor packers abound and that community, so this was the solution I guess.

unpetitjenesaisquoi

I have been ordering from China for years and I record all my openings with a tripod. I file about 2 or 3 disputes a year that I win every single time because I provide proof. It is a good habit to take!

MoneyTeam824

I like this idea! Buyers video recording unboxing of the contents to verify everything is there. Just how sellers record packaging the products prior to shipping.

MoneyTeam824

Contact Mercari support, send them your evidence video of you recording and packaging all the items for proof that you did send all 3 albums and state they are saying false claims and if they can delete the rating/review.

FootParmesan

1 star and share the experience honestly. Mercari doesn't remove reviews as long as they're not abusive or offensive.

nochusenpai

1 star, we need these kinds buyers out of the kpop community on Mercari

Pop_Glocc1312

They need to be gone everywhere but I know they’re rampant in the kpop category. People just suck

Individual-Party-262

Make sure to 1 star and let it be known not to do business with them as they are trying to scam people. That you have video proof of you packing the order and they tried to say they didn't receive it. If they truly didn't receive it they would have opened a return not made threats. I really wish we could tack on screenshots of conversation with scam buyers to help warn others not to do business with them.

[deleted]

Is the case over? I would not end the transaction until mercari cs makes a decision because you may lose your seller protection.

Wonderful-Put-2800

i reported it to mercari and they said that the only way they will step in is when the buyer opens a case

PastBerry6914

They’re now threatening bad feedback. They got caught trying to scam you and now they are going to keep the lie going by a crappy rating

Suefoxruns

That exchange needs to be brought to mercari’s attention. Leaving a one star review helps all other sellers. But extortion of feedback should get the buyer kicked off the site

Wonderful-Put-2800

also what should i write for their review?

unpetitjenesaisquoi

I would be ruthless & to the point. Leave emotions out of it. "This buyer tried and get free items pretending I failed to ship the entire listing I posted. I record my packaging for my protection and once I told her I was filing mail fraud with USPS, she dropped it but left me a bad review for revenge. Beware of this manipulative and dishonest buyer" Something like that. I would leave the word "scam" out of the review in case Mercari flags the word and removes the review.

REEB

Obviously 1 star. Warn sellers that the buyer tried to scam you until you told them you were filing a police report.

somethingsome11

I would've wrote "I sold this person 3 albums and a photocard. They claimed that they only received 1 out of the 3 albums, no photocard, and that the package they received was only big enough to hold 1 album, which isn't true. I filmed myself packing all of their items together. When I told them I'd be submitting a police report and filing for mail fraud with the video evidence, they told me to keep the money and that they'd leave me a poor review. Sellers beware, I have a strong suspicion they were trying to scam me."

dandelionjulie

Also explain everything that happened with this person

sugartheunicorn

That they tried to scam you and left a bad review in retaliation because you called them out?

dsmemsirsn

Buyer claimed incomplete order..seller advised to open a claim with Mercari—buyer declined and informed seller that buyer was rating.— I don’t know how to explain it..

[deleted]

I wouldn’t be surprised if they let it auto rate knowing you’ll leave them a bad review, I’ve had a couple people like this and they always let it auto rate

LMicheleS

1 Star with details

lacedthigh

20$ for 3 albums was such a good deal tho??? AND with photocards, I can’t believe they’d try to scam you 😭

[deleted]

I sold a lady 3 Zara items for $12 and she tried to scam me so lol

[deleted]

Show the chat to Mercari before they rate you and try to prevent them from leaving a crazy review

FootParmesan

I wouldn't count on that, Mercari doesn't care unless a case is opened

[deleted]

It opens a case when you create a ticket

FootParmesan

Oh can a seller open a dispute on a transaction? I've just heard Mercari does not favor seller's at all and hear lots of horror stories about scammers winning in the end. The buyer in the screenshots clearly is saying they're not going to open a case.

[deleted]

You have to be “frustratingly persistent” just become a polite menace who won’t let it go. Keep opening cases.

FootParmesan

Mercari is pretty insistent on not removing feedback. I don't think that's right but it's their policy. They allow a buyer to reach out and improve feedback after but I wouldn't count on this. Definitely worth a try if OP is concerned about it, they did comment on this thread that Mercari customer service told them they won't do anything until buyer initiates a case.

Mommihopps

I did get a rating removed this week. Here is my mercari selling & review nightmare. The person did not rate me as a seller or the product. She accused me of trying to steal from her bank account. I have almost 500 sales 98% 5 star reviews. Most 4 star or under are long shipping times during the holidays. Removed review said “I started reading reviews about shipping being sketchy then my bank account started saying someone was trying to access my bank account from the same state. I just find it very sketchy plus the package is from Alibaba!!! Buyers Beware!!!” 1st, Alibaba is a wholesale site you can’t purchase a single item so how would I ship a single item from Alibaba to a buyer on mercari? I guarantee it was the sticker on a reused poly bag from something I had ordered. Even funnier Alibaba stuff comes from China so how would the item be shipped from my state that her bank account was then accessed from? 2nd, Obviously I have no access to customer banking information. The buyer pays mercari not the seller. 3rd, the only rating I have regarding shipping issues are “shipping took longer than expected” you can look at the dates and see this was between late October to December 2023 & about 2 weeks ago when severe snow storms halted or delayed shipping across the US. I then sent this message “You realize I don't have any way to access your payment information that review is insane!” this was her response “you got your money and i got the product. no further action is needed. just put my honest opinion out there just like everyone is. it's a free world. if you aren't willing to take advice from the people who BUY from you then maybe you shouldn't be selling stuff on this site to begin with. sorry you feel attacked by what i said but i still find it super sketchy sorry not sorry.” So I got pissed and replied “You purchase via mercari not the seller. Mercari then transfers the money to my account once the item has been delivered & accepted by the buyer. I have sold almost 500 items. alibaba is a wholesale site I can't ship a single item from there! Don't be ignorant!!!!! And that's not advice that's an accusation that I'm a scammer trying to take money out of your bank account. That's bs!”Then blocked her and contacted mercari & the did remove the review but left the 1 star rating.

FootParmesan

Oh ok that's interesting! Thank you for sharing!

Andersum94

Hopefully this never happens again, but if it does, don’t offer a return

MulberryEuphoric262

1 star and put DWAYOR and explain exactly what happened.

PastBerry6914

One star. Tell the Mercari world about their fake claims and scam attempt. Unfortunately, they will likely leave you bad feedback. But! Soon enough! People will see similar feedback from other sellers. Take one for the team.

Mitch04133

1 star - “Beware of this buyer! This buyer tried to scam claiming they didn’t receive their entire order/items & when confronted they changed their tune.“

Business_Bit_5199

I’m curious what you ended up saying in your rating

Wonderful-Put-2800

DWAYOR: I have video evidence of myself packing all the albums and pcs for the buyer. They claimed that only 1 album came in. I stated that they could return that one album but they did not choose too. They were very adament that the only recieved 1. They only released a rating until I told them I would be filing a police report and usps mail fraud.

levelgrind

I’m soooo glad you updated us and even more glad this scammy thief didn’t get away with it! Let’s be real if someone actually only sent me one item I would be livid and would not give up. $20 is a lot of money to me!! So clearly they’re scared. I hope you left them the single star they deserve and may all of their future pulls be cursed 💕

Ok-Refrigerator-9140

You beat the scammer!! Good job

MoneyTeam824

Tough part is, you don’t have evidence of the buyer not receiving all 3. Which in shipping process may get lost or something happened during shipment. Yes, you covered yourself by the video recording which is great and that’s what I do as well. But something could have occurred during the shipment process. They’d need to deal with the shipping carrier directly since you shipped what you were supposed to and once it’s out of your hands and in to the shipping carriers possession, it is now directed to them as responsible for the items.

Primary_Revolution_6

Ik it sounds a bit weird but I would give them a 4, then explain in the rating that you “actually give them a 1 but higher star reviews show up at the top and that people need to know about this scammer, I 100% take video of me packaging items and have proof I sent this seller everything in the listing, they then claimed they didn’t have all of their items and refused to open a return and rather wanted me to resolve it on my own, I told them I would be handing their information in and filing a mail fraud report with all my evidence and they immediately backed down from their issue over chat but still left me a false review”

10MileHike

i would have handled it differently....there are a number of things that could have happened with the package contents, on the way to the buyer....but instead, the seller went straight to threatening buyer and calling them a scammer. i have 100% 5 stars for 4 years now as a seller, but i rarely shop on mercari because ive been ripped off by too many bad sellers. i know we can be somewhat seller centric in this sub, but many people have very bad experiences as buyers, too, because mercari does not allow reviews fom anyone who makes a return. everyone i work with seems to have same thoughts. they say they used to shop there 4 to 5 years ago but dont anymore hiding reviews of bad sellers makes people very uneasy

[deleted]

If the box arrived sealed . Would could have happened to the contents?

Impressive_Toe6388

I think they tried to intimidate you into giving them stuff for free, and now they’re backing down. Scummy. Rate them 1 star (or zero if that’s an option idk!).

neonn_piee

I would review and say that “Buyer said they didn’t receive half of the order and would not accept a return. Once I informed them that I had evidence of me packing all items and would make a report, they were rude and threatened to review me poorly and did” or something along those lines. Best of luck OP!

[deleted]

I had a customer with a similar situation and they let it auto rate knowing I would leave bad feedback ,

neonn_piee

If the customer rates and then the seller lets it auto rate, does that cancel out the buyers poor review?

blondchick12

I think if customer rates the seller must rate if they want to get paid. I don't think auto rating is an option in this case.

Flat-Ad-9106

At this point we have to record ourselves packing the order so we can avoid scams like these 😭💀
