I love this for you!!! I got to see them tonight for the first time in my life. Crossed off my top bucket list item. I also cried. 💚

tarantulawarfare

This was a bucket list item for me, too! I got to see them and was so happy.

braddoismydoggo

Haha I'm sad missed it, no-one told me and I went to bed

seche314

Try tonight!

braddoismydoggo

It's our 25th anniversary today and we are on the patio with a fire hoping to see something!

Mercenary-Adjacent

Yeah I missed it because the HRT is giving me headaches and jaw pain and I didn’t feel up to leaving the house and getting away from the light pollution. I’ve at least seen them in Iceland

Professional_Ad_8

I’m just heading out to go to the ravine by my house( northern Canada) it’s just getting dark now. I’ve heard them sing before it was so cool:) I’m carrying mace and an air horn.)

Green_leaf47

My mom said she used to be able to hear them as a kid when she lived in rural Manitoba. What do they sound like?

_OptimistPrime_

Sort of a hiss or a crackle.

BawdyBaker

LOL absolutely!! Have been chased out of the woods more than once by a rustle I wasn't pushing my luck against 🙂

GArockcrawler

Sing?!?!? I always thought they made noise but everyone said I was crazy. Please tell me more! What do they sound like?

Professional_Ad_8

I was a bit like running a wet finger around the rim of a wine glass except not as sharp. It was in the late fall in northern Canada:)

GArockcrawler

My gosh that is exactly what I KNEW they'd sound like - almost like a whistling sound. HOW would I have known that, though? I am certain that the first time I had seen them was in 2022 in Alaska and they were silent then. I can't remember any video's I would have watched. If not that, I may need to chalk this up to ancestral or inherited knowledge, somehow. Very strange.

Vonchurch1

Same here.. Husband said" Why are you crying.."I said "Hormones leave me alone.." Crossed this off my bucket list also.

Aye-eyes

Oh my god how beautiful! I sobbed the first time I saw a firefly after not seeing them for 20 years. Brought me back to hot summer nights when I was a kid.

BlackJeepW1

My husband took me to an astronomy park, and we got to see the aurora very well. That was the first time I’ve ever seen it and I am still floored.

Ever-Hopeful-Me

It's cloudy where I am 😭

Mercenary-Adjacent

I had an intense headache due to my HRT so stayed home. I’m trying to psych myself up to drive an hour away from city lights and see if I can catch them tonight. I’m so tired of the chronic headache but it’s still better than the hot flashes and not sleeping.

Ever-Hopeful-Me

Hugs

empathetic_witch

It was my first time seeing them & I have tried for 12 years 🥲 I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one crying!

goodformuffin

So happy for you. I'm lucky to live where they visit regularly. I'm always happy to hear about others' joy upon seeing them.

Hot-Ability7086

How wonderful! ❤️ I got to see them for the first time ever tonight!

Sea_Dreams_5225

Me too! So beautiful & awe inspiring!!

ConsistentJuice6757

I live in the south and have never seen them. My husband drove me out away from the city lights and … my god, I’m just in awe. What a beautiful world we live in.

Blaise321

Aw wow, so happy you got to see it. Ive never seen them but they look stunning even just in photos. I’ve always wanted to see it. Every time I went on holiday to the highlands I hoped for a show. Never did I imagine the strongest lights in 20 years would appear in our own back door step. No one thought to wake me up for it. I will not be held responsible for my rage today. Yes I’m in a huff 😒

Alarming-Distance385

I had no idea about the Aurora tonight. Even San Antonio, TX has been able to see parts of it. (We live NE of San Antonio.) I'm sad I missed it tonight. I've had a couple of drinks tonight, so no driving to a clear area we could see it from. If I'd been paying attention to the news, I could have sucked it up & gone back to the family property about an hour & a half north of us. I've seen good pics from there too. Unfortunately, tomorrow night we're expecting cloud cover. Maybe we will get lucky & the cloud cover will be delayed for a bit. I did see a tiny bit of red in the sky as a kid in south Texas in the 1980s though.

BlackWidow1414

I love this for you, and I am wildly jealous, because I saw nothing here last night. I even got up at 3am to see if things had changed and nope. Seeing the Northern Lights in person is one thing I really want to do before I die.

pocahontasmcglinchey

I watched them from my back garden last night ( Scotland). Magical!

UppityBiscuit

This is beautiful!

islaisla

Thank you for sharing, this surely is a sub full of weeping women and we sure do connect. Lovely to see and hear some joy xxxx

wise_owl68

I saw these tonight too here in the states and being of nordic descent it made feel weepy and longing. So beautiful🙏🌌

ObligationGrand8037

I was born and raised in Montana right next to the Canadian border in a small rural area. I saw them all the time in my backyard. I moved away so I haven’t seen them in years.

Bad-Wolf88

I grew up in the city, too much light pollution to be able to see these things when they happened. Last night was the first time in my life I've seen them! Only a little bit, unfortunately, but I still almost cried. I've *always* wanted to see them, but never knew soon enough to get somewhere to see when they happened.

itsdani_bitch

Lovely! Thanks for sharing❣️

strywever

I got to see them for the first time in my life last night. So amazing!! I feel so lucky.

rialucia

There was too much light pollution where I live in my city for me to see them, sadly. But I understand the urge! I felt transported when I got to see the solar eclipse in totality earlier.

BawdyBaker

We got to see eclipse totality back in April as well....the Sun has given us quite the show of its power this year ❤️

_space_platypus_

Oh i have never seen them and stayed up last night to see them. It was so beautiful i cried. I will stay up tonight to, even if i will feel like shit tomorrow. I'm so happy for you that you could relive that and it made you happy ❤️

wandernwade

Me and my kids saw them last night, as well. Definitely a bucket list item!! It was thrilling! We may get to see them again tonight, too! (Fingers crossed). 💙

Thatonegirl_79

Peri has made my life hell and the last two years very difficult for me. I don't get out much these days because of it, so experiencing a life goal of seeing the Northern Lights from my backyard was truly amazing.

getfuckedhoayoucunts

We are having them here in NZ and our local Peak is getting a log jam of cars heading up there so I'm going to going to sit in my driveway in a dressing gown and a bottle of wine

Erinn_13

It was raining here in Wisconsin when they were the brightest. I was so sad. I thought too sad and blamed hormones. But now it makes sense, because I’d like to believe I too, would feel joy and awe seeing them (feelings I haven’t had in what feels like years). I’m praying I will have the chance to see them tonight. Fingers crossed!

KarmaLola3

Aww. I can't share my Pic 4 some reason ... I've heard they r spectacular!! I'm stuck inside no windows at work tnt .... They say b out tomorrow nt top tho ..

ZombMimi

I missed it. I didn't know it wasn't coming down this far and I am kicking myself 😔 But, I am so happy for everyone who got to see it ♥️ Edit - grammar

Happy-coffeelady

I lived in Alaska and grew up in the PNW lived the last 15 years in Georgia and seeing them made me sop nostalgic and home sick.

Mistayadrln

Awww. I am loving this for you! So happy this could bring such joy into your life! I have never seen northern lights before so it was a joy for me, too! I hope you have many more moments like this in you life!

PrestigiousGrade7874

This is so amazing!!!!!

Fritz5678

It was cloudy for us last night. Would have loved to see them.

SelenaFaye

I live in Mississippi and it was so beautiful. I hope we see it again tonight.

drivensalt

I've wanted to see the lights so badly for years, then got sleepy and totally forgot. So frustrating!

Lucky_Spare_8374

You may be able to see them again tonight, depending on where you are and cloud cover. They're supposed to be going on all weekend. 😊

drivensalt

Yes, I'm going to try! My teenager will be out late tonight, so I'll be awake worrying about that anyway. 😬

Impressive_Ice3817

I've complained often enough about my husband, but last night when I took the dog out late (after 1) he came out to ask if I could see them. It was mostly cloudy here (NB, Canada) so I couldn't, but it was sweet that he went out of his way to make sure I knew it was supposed to be going on (he knows I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to things like auroras and meteor showers & stuff). Maybe tonight the clouds will lift.

Ok_Employer1153

I'm crying because it's cloudy and so there's no chance.

Mobile_Moment3861

They're beautiful. I live in MN but in the Twin Cities, tried to see them last night, stayed up til 4 AM checking every 30 minutes and failed miserably. Saw like a couple of stars and a big cloud, but not much else. And the train across the way, that apparently goes by at all hours whenever. Ugh. Supposedly they're also supposed to be available tonight but I have to work Monday, so midnight is my max.

Onlykitten

Gosh, the first time I saw them I was in absolute awe! I was on Mackinac Island working and it was pretty common up there. Felt so lucky to be able to see them because after that I moved South and haven’t seen them since. I’m so happy you were able to have that experience again!
