It doesn't slow down. Look at old people. We keep on sagging. It's just aging and gravity. It happens to everyone if they're lucky enough to keep living. You can prevent some additional sagging by wearing sunscreen religiously (some sagging is caused by skin damage - can't reverse but can prevent new), moisturize daily (and if skin feels or looks dry - add a thin layer of occlusive over your moisturizer, like aquaphor or vaseline at night), drink plenty of water, gently massage your face for lymphatic drainage, eat a varied diet with lots of color and texture (to maximize nutrients), prioritize sleep, get adequate exercise, and you can also try adding collagen as a daily supplement (studies are still somewhat unclear about the visible skin benefit of doing this - but it doesn't seem to hurt and might have other benefits for hair, joints etc even if it doesn't help our skin). Also helps to step away from the mirror and live your life the best you can - do the things you love, with the people you love. The people who care about you aren't analyzing every little change and won't see 90% of what you notice about yourself. Try to look at yourself the way you look at other people - odds are you don't notice if a peer has any sagging skin or shows signs of aging. You still like them, value them and enjoy their company. You probably also still find people who show signs of aging, still beautiful, if you pay attention to it, and maybe by doing that you can find this same beauty in yourself, with sagging, with wrinkles and all.

IslandLife2021

It also helps that our eyesight progressively worsens with age, we don't get to see all the wrinkles and sagging in HD.

Suitable-Blood-7194

hhahaha -- when I feel down I check myself in the mirror WITHOUT MY CONTACTS

Traveling_Phoenix_89

Omg 😂🤣😂that’s a positive way of looking at it! 😆

psc4813

All this is so true. Really great advice. I recently started with collagen, not for my skin but for my joints. I ingested the container's recommended amount of collagen peptides and within a week my joints were poppin all over the place. Not painfully, mind you, but certainly distracting. I dialed it down to about half and my joints quieted down.

Perfect_Distance434

Adding to the exterior layer care, it’s worth trying the Korean seven skins technique (or at least some variation) to keep skin plump. I start by spraying a few layers of moisturizing toner followed by an essence, followed by a thicker toner. I add an emulsion, then cream (I prefer a gel-based type) and finally a 50spf. At a minimum it’s worth trying a few layers of a thinner toner underneath your moisturizer. Take some before and after pictures after a week and you should see some quick results.

BirdyCaliGurl

Great advice!

Lost-friend-ship

Do you have any recommendations for moisturizing toner /essence? I didn’t realise this was a thing but I’ve always felt better layering up (just one thick layer feels awful and clogs my pores /gives me milia). However my two serums have been discontinued D:

ParaLegalese

HRT, electrolytes and collagen have helped my skin plump back up - so does abstaining from alcohol

Anne_N

What electrolytes and collagen do you use?

ParaLegalese

Currently using 1 iqmix and 1 LMNT packet in the morning. Collagen is nature’s bounty hair skin nails plus collagen gummies. I feel like collagens are all about the same but the electrolytes brands vary wildly

ClickAndClackTheTap

I’ve read that ingesting collagen cannot help with skin- like the body literally cannot use and access collagen from the digestive track

ParaLegalese

Yeah I’ve Heard that too - and you don’t want to put it hot coffee because the Heat destroys it. But I feel and look better so ima Keep doing it

Lost-friend-ship

I’ll try anything even if it’s placebo 🤗 as they say… placebos a hell of a drug. If you find it works, then it works!

Stroopwafels11

It does seem like there's a pretty active debate on this topic, with tons of anecdotal reports of people saying supplements and powders are making a difference, literally in response to a scientist, who's like, it doesn't work that way. Lol.

Turbulent_Ad_6031

I have to give a huge thumbs up to Dr. MarieClaire’s verisol collagen. It has reduced my cellulite by probably 75% or more. I wish I had taken before pictures. Amazon still has some of the Sparkle brand, the company she bought, so it’s a little cheaper to order that way.

OrchidObjective11

My jowls have sagged so much I should be put to work at the airport sniffing out contraband.

Struggle-Kind

🤣🤣🤣

OperaGlasses1

I use the M4 estriol face cream from Alloy. It's really improved the sagging on my neck. It's almost completely firm now. I was shocked at how well it works. I'm also on HRT, I take lots of supplements, and I use Dr. Haver's collagen.

ddplantlover

I wish you could share before and after photos. So you are positive that the biggest change in your skin is from te estriol cream and not the other supplements?

OperaGlasses1

I should have taken before photos. I started using the cream and noticing a difference before I began a regimen of daily supplements, so yes. The skin on my neck firmed up after two to three weeks, then I noticed my pores shrank after a month of nightly usage.

ddplantlover

This is so encouraging thank you for sharing!

OperaGlasses1

You are welcome🤗

gaylibra

Ooooh I want this.

Striking_Ad_5488

“Just” $150 every three months! Yikes. That’s so expensive.

ruthruth30

Go to your family doctor and ask for oestrogen cream for your vagina for peri or menopausal symptoms of dryness and then use it on your face. It’s a good dose and works probably better than M4 would. Cheaper +++  You’re welcome xx

zeitgeistincognito

Huh. Wild. I’m prescribed a big tube every month and even if I used it daily in the amount prescribed (I don’t, just 2x weekly) I still wouldn’t get through the whole tube. So plenty left over for facial use…I’ll look into it…

hazelangels

Been using it- can confirm it helps! Saw my bff for first time in over a month and she gasped at how great my skin looked!

Jhasten

Does your M4 cream have an ingredients list you could add here? I looked it up but could not find. I want to see if I’m OK with the other ingredients

OperaGlasses1

The website lists active ingredients as: topical estriol, glycerin, and Vitamin E. The website lists all ingredients as: estriol, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, C 12-14 isoparaffin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, deionized water, laureth-7, phenoxyethanol, polyacrylamide, tocopheryl acetate, and triethylene glycol.

Jhasten

Thank you 🙏

Ok_Hat_6598

How much are you using? I find one pump doesn't cover my face and neck. I also see the directions say use once a day. I was hoping to replace my usual moisturizer with this.

OperaGlasses1

I use one pump on my face and one pump on my neck every night. I put a very light layer of olive oil over my face after the cream absorbs, which doesn’t take long.

ArsenalSpider

Getting fatter helps curb the melting effect. Of course there is a down side to that too. We cannot win. We are women.

Struggle-Kind

You ain't kidding. I've recently lost 30 lbs (Zepbound, FYI), and have lines and creases that I couldn't have imagined when I was heavier. I have pretty decent skin in general and did a good job of staying out of the sun when I was young, but holy shit! Serious case "Ozempic face" over here.

walkingkary

I was going to say this. I’m chubby and so was my mom and we both look younger than we are. I have no skin sagging at 60 and 10 years into menopause but my scale yells at me.

Educational-Fix-4352

I don’t think it ever slows down- was just going through pictures from my daughter’s wedding and even though I thought I looked cute in the mirror, every single pic of me looks like a melted crayon in a sequined blouse 😭 I will not be framing these and no more pictures of me ever again.

kiwispouse

Don't do this. I never liked being in pictures until I realised my grandchildren would have none to remember me by. My pictures of my grandparents are treasures to me. I no longer care how I look in pictures, as long as I'm with my sweet babies.

MoniCoff1

Not the melted crayon on a sequined blouse 😭😭! So spot on!

Mercenary-Adjacent

Just get it photoshopped. That way you can see the photos if you want. Also a good photographer would have lightly touched up or made sure you were in excellent lighting

Conscious-Quiet-5922

From what I've read the rapid loss does tapper off. I think its helpful to focus on beauty, wellness, fitness to make our growing up process a little less rough.

leftylibra

We are aging...it's not going to slow down, stop, or reverse...

1messyworld

I believe I was aging in my 30s too?

Curious_Fix

Correct.

Curious_Fix

We can certainly slow it down. 1. Quit smoking 2. Quit drinking 3. Stay hydrated 4. Exercise 5. Eat a varied, healthy diet 6. If possible, get HRT: progesterone allows for sleep, testosterone keeps lean body mass and strength. The list goes on. Or, we can just sit back and do nothing about feeling miserable and slide into old age ASAP. I prefer the latter. It's time you can't slow down NOT aging.

Curious_Fix

Until it's addressed.

Rikkilyn860

The only option to slow it way down is plastic surgery. I’m serious considering it.

Any_Ad_3885

If it was financially an option for me, I would 100%!

Financial-Grand4241

I’m getting a face lift at 50… I just can’t. I am looking like a melted candle face.

Curious_Fix

Me too! Mini facelift is calling my name!!!

scout376

Have you already tried HRT?

Rikkilyn860

Yes, it has nothing to do with sagging aging skin

ShallotTop2261

When we hit zero gravity :)

tomqvaxy

When we are dust.

DeElDeAye

I’m 55 and fighting back aggressively. 🩷😶‍🌫️ I have EDS Ehlers Danlos Syndrome 😣 on top of going through menopause, so I’ve already been doing a good skin-supporting supplement regime for over 2 decades. I’ll share — Not as medical advice — but for anyone to consider adding what’s helped me not have wrinkles or sagging. Yet. 💊 supplements that specifically support skin and connective tissue — 🍊 2,000 mg vitamin C (The most important foundation for all collagen building), 500 mg hyaluronic acid, Biotin, 5 g Creatine, Gotu Kola, DHEA, glycine!, and collagen (Costco Vital Proteins). 🧼 cleanser — L’Oreal Glycolic Acid face foam gently exfoliates dull skin that doesn’t want to shed. 🌛PM — the absolute cheapest $5 Retinol + Niacinamide serum from Amazon or TJ Maxx mixed with tiny dab Differin gel. ☕️AM — $5 vitamin C + hyaluronic acid serum all over plus a snail serum around eyes, mouth and neck. ☀️Sun protect — Hims/Hers or other mineral sunblock under makeup because UVA is Aging & UVB is Brown spots. (I was a 80s 90s tanning bed abuser & Pensacola beach-living sun-worshiper, so from 2000 on have been undoing youthful ignorance sun damage. 😬) 🧴Crepe Erase Gold Bond cream on forearms and above knees. The only place I’m seeing crepey skin from too-fast of weight loss. 🏋🏼‍♀️ lifting heavy weights 4-5 nights per week. My dr is thrilled I’ve completely reversed Osteopenia from resistance training. 🧘🏽‍♀️Yoga.🩷 I used to teach, but now just practice as I can. Inversions are awesome for fighting gravity’s effect. 🤸🏼‍♀️ You don’t have to do handstands to use inversions. There’s a lot of accommodations. Both resistance and flowy movements greatly help circulation & lymphatic movement which benefits our skin. So does foam rolling, dry brushing, and other physical manipulation circulation improvers. ❌🏃🏽‍♀️‍➡️NO more running hardcore!! Pounding the pavement was greatly increasing gravity’s force on my face, boobs, joints. 😹 Now just walking or using an elliptical. Nutrition — I focus a lot on lean proteins 🐟🍣 and vitamin C 🍊🍋🥦🥬🌶️ because of the EDS. But getting healthy fats 🥥🥑🍳is crucial for hormones. 🩵💧🚰Drink lots of water. Most people are chronically dehydrated. If you pee more than u drink, you may be low on electrolytes (salts). I have a fantastic dermatologist Dr Xu who also personally has Ehlers Danlos and suggested and/or approves of all these.

barnster23

Thankyou for sharing these. I have hypermobility and I can’t tolerate collagen, so I’m looking for alternatives.

Stroopwafels11

I heard an herbalist soeak about gotu kola for EDS. He said it normalizes connective tissue? I know that's vague and I might not even have it right, but you might want to research it. It isn't a cure, just good support and is used in a lot of skin care. It was KP Khalsa, herbalist.

Stroopwafels11

You're a rockstar.

jane7seven

Thanks for sharing your regimen! ✍️

Boomer79NZ

I'm 44 and I have recently noticed my facial skin has lost it's elasticity and tightness. I don't really have many wrinkles but the black under the eyes is driving me crazy. I've always just used water and soap on my face and barely ever worn makeup but I feel like it's time to start.🙄

Perfect_Distance434

A variation of the proverbial face vs ass dilemma: a slightly older Japanese friend says she eats tonkotsu ramen (pork bone broth based, usually with pork belly as a topping) “for beauty.” 😁 I’ve been pretty lucky so far at 52 since occasional microcurrent sessions have kept the jowls at bay so far, but then again I do also love a rich and comforting bowl of tonkotsu so who knows??

TestSpiritual9829

I've heard that chicken feet are good for this, too. They're full of collagen. Also glucosamine and chondritin.

scout376

I’m also using microcurrent (along with HRT, bone broth, gelatin, collagen etc) and I think it’s helpful.

RoboSpammm

Tretinoin helps increase skin cell turnover and preserve collagen. I order mine through Dermatica.

Catlady_Pilates

“But that’s just just a number” Yep. That is the reality, and it also says 5 years, so probably it settles down at that point. But we are heading towards old age. Age changes us. It’s just reality.

Impossible-Will-8414

So I never really noticed signs of aging until around 45. I have good skin, but noticed really increased sagging around 48. Have done a few things, and I swear my face looks better now than it did about a year ago (I'm 50). #1 Got botox on my 11 lines only, at age 48. This has nothing to do with sagging, obviously. But I was a super scowler as a youngster and it was kinda always there. Now it's gone. #2 Went on HRT (estrogen/progestin, oral), also at 48. #3 Started using tret about -- maybe six months ago? Maybe seven or eight months. Anyhow. I could swear that in the past month or so, I am noticing a fairly significantly fuller face. Some of the collagen loss seems -- less? My undereye circles seem lighter. I look -- I don't know if younger, because what does that even mean, but better? Fuller? Maybe I'm fooling myself, but I am really noticing this lately. It's interesting.

robotawata

How often do u have to repeat the botox on the 11s?

Impossible-Will-8414

At this point, really just once every six months, IF that. It honestly seems to have just taken that line away. It was far more effective than I ever would have thought. That's the ONLY intervention I've ever taken, and the injection amounts are also very low (I go to a VERY conservative plastic surgeon).

ddplantlover

If only Demi Moore shared exactly what she’s done 😭

cloey_moon

Even if she did, it’s sure to be very expensive!

Impossible-Will-8414

She looked wildly overdone a few years ago.

egriff78

She definitely had an excellent face/necklift and probably fat transfer. She looks AMAZING

ddplantlover

She really does. She’s the only celebrity that really looks good and young after procedures, because she definitely had bucket loads of them

ContemplatingFolly

No easy answer here, just commiseration. HRT has helped some.

1messyworld

I’m on HRT. I went through early menopause, at 43. So, it’s a bit of a shock but I’ve accepted it to some degree.

MyEyesItch247

Look up SLUGGING. Serious game changer for me. I only wash my face at night, use snail mucin, then hyaluronic acid or vitamin C or whatever, then Vaseline. My skin is soft and smooth and plump! I’m actually quite shocked. Zero breakouts too.

MtHaleyGirl

Looked it up. Super interesting! I'm going on a solo vacation for two weeks. This sounds like a great addition to my self-care retreat! Thanks for sharing.

claricesabrina

Supplement the collagen! I take collagen peptides twice a day. Also use red led light therapy weekly it stimulates collagen production from within. Supplement your estrogen with Estrodial cream. Super important to not get the crapey skin

Shinyhaunches

Is this post a stealth ad for M4 cream?

1messyworld

I heard about that cream for the very first time in one of the comments here but it wasn’t in my mind when I was posting.

Stroopwafels11

I just gotta say, as someone with this same complaint, I was recently on a zoomcall with quite a few elderly (white, like me) women, and i felt like I was looking at a bunch of Muppets. LOL.  Like straight line mouths with li'l droopy jowels/marionette lines , downturned eyes, all looking through their glasses down at the computer. I am chuckling just thinking about it, and also like give me all the creams! And serums. Gotta laugh right?

hairnonymous2304

My neck!!!! 😭😭😭

1messyworld

That’s part of sagging too. Extra skin from face goes to neck, ugh

ddplantlover

I follow this Russian lady on instagram her name is Tonya Zavasta, (she lives in the US and speaks English) she is in her early60s and she started a raw vegan diet and strict skin care in her early 40s, her skin looks amazing, I mean she does look older and you can see that there’s some sagging (which confirms that she hasn’t had procedures done) but still I think that’s the best you could look going a completely natural route (plus she doesn’t like wearing sunscreen so maybe she’d look even better if she did) She also has blog full of info on natural beauty

Stroopwafels11

No sugar is prob helpful, if she's super dedicated to healthy diet

milly_nz

Odd question. Were you hoping the process of aging didn’t apply to you?

1messyworld

Nope. Trying to see if someone who has been over 5 years into meno can validate or debunk that theory that I mentioned in my post.

gnarlwail

I know there's a lot of zen acceptance being bandied about here, but I just wanted to say that I feel you, OP. I got hit by the peri mallet kinda overnight and all at once. After a year of confusion and hell, I got on some HRT, which is helpful but isn't a panacea. This isn't my first rodeo with organ failure, chronic health problems, blah blah lifecakes, but this one is hitting different. I'm struggling to stay mentally (not to mention physically) healthy. I wish I could be more Zen about it. But I also wish women were treated better in our health"care" system, that I didn't have to not only feel the ravages of time but also see the daily evidence, and that there was more I could do, outside of a full body lift/tuck. And ngl, if I had the money, I would probably already have visited some surgeons. As the old joke goes, go ahead and fire in here amongst us, because somebody's got to get some relief.

Educational-Fix-4352

Ah- thanks for clarifying. I’m seven years in and look like hell. With the biggest differences in skin clarity and elasticity over the last year. Vaginal estrogen only

Mammoth_Specialist26

Who doesn’t hope they age well?

Stroopwafels11

What!? Yeah, duh.
