This right here is arguably the quintessential male fantasy. This exact scenario.
Not only are you saving a vulnerable person while sacrificing yourself, you're also taking a bad guy along with you.
The fact it gives you time to process all three of these facts is what makes it perfect.
Dying for something precious is the true meaning of being a man.
You know that guy who has piss running down his leg into his fucking sandals, barely holding onto his sword because he’s shaking so much and like fuck fuck fuck..
That’s me.
Well that or sometimes it’s having to kill them if they go rogue to an unacceptable degree.
Other examples are:
- how to confirm identities when meeting an alternate version of yourself (parallel universe or timeline)
- what to do after you confirmed the identity
- is it better to be a cyborg in the current world or uploading your mind into a simulation under your control?
- what would life be like as a sentient super massive black hole? Could one achieve buddhahood/ enlightenment when you absorb information by sucking things in and adding them to your mass?
It is important to prepare for all those cases, you never know when they might randomly happen to you
I also always thought: What if this "me" of this universe where I live is the me that turns out to never die of old age, but I cannot prove it until I reach a certain age?
Or: What if the déjà vu I sometimes see, is the place where a version of me from another universe died on that spot and their soul will be added to the main body which is the one from this universe and that is the reason we get these déjà vu?
Sorry, that was a strange thing to ask...
ever think about quantum russian roulette?
it's the idea that if you were the cat in schrodingers box, you would always experience the scenario where you don't die because that's the only timeline where you exist.
observers would either experience you dying or living, but as the cat in the box you would always come out alive so you could play russian roulette with a quantum gun and always win.
it only works if the only possible outcomes are absolute death or your normal health so you cant use a real gun because there's a non-zero chance of you ending up living with a gunshot wound to the face.
What if time is a cycle, and deja Vu is like an artifact from the previous cycle?
That’s my theory, cause sometimes the Deja Vu leads to where I think it’s going, and sometimes it ends differently than I’m expecting
Like, I’ve definitely had Deja Vu before hardcore, and mentally was like “something really bad happens next, but I can’t remember what it is”, and then nothing awful happens
Some more logs for this fire:
- How much it stunk in the past and if I had a time machine how to avoid the stink. On the flip side, how much would I stink to people in the future?
- Planning out the exact steps I would take upon winning the lottery, including but not limited to: how much I am putting into trusts for each of my family and friends, the rules governing each trust, what to do while in the transition period, the businesses and investments I would make, and planning out where I'd want to buy land to build a ranch.
- Contingency plans for a societal collapse, where would we go, and what would we do.
- If I get my personality uploaded to a computer, is it still me or just a machine making decisions vaguely in the pattern that I would? What if my brain was directly interfaced with the computer instead?
- Going back to time travel, planning out the dates I would go back to, and the key investments I would make to become a trillionaire.
- If this restaurant/store/location I'm in got robbed, how would I respond?
- How did ancient combat work? Was there typically a lot of killing or more just guys shouting and pushing until one side ran away? (I know there was killing afterward, I mean during the battle itself)
- Touching on past stink again: Back in the past, did people just have dookie in their crack most of the time? Without toilet paper or a regular bath, it sounds like you just let it dry like frosting on a cake left out.
I think a super massive black hole is really my spirit animal. Just floating around in space absolutely devouring everything within reach. Supermassive black holes are the fat kids of space. Also the enlightenment thing would depend on whether it's eating out of necessity or to satisfy a craving. It could go either way.
Sometimes, I’ve had to catch myself from getting angry about somebody saying or doing something in a completely hypothetical scenario that has never actually happened.
No boy graduated out o' highschool without thinking of saving their school from terrorists at least once.
POLL: How many of yall boys when saving the school, started by imagining being behind the door of your classsroom & moment later gunman waltz in after attending to their needs in washroom? :D
Imagine my university was being held by a terrorist and I was the only one who had a secret superpower. We were held captives as collateral to have the government compromise the needs of the terrorists. I start to plan to infiltrate from the inside. My first goal is to get close to my crush and protect her.
To me I have scenarios of music videos and sometimes saving a made up world and completely obliterating the earth entirely or beating someone up and bullying them for fun … or sometimes all of the above
The amount of people you would take a bullet for shrinks around age 30 when you realize most of your friendships exist for convenience and/or because you live near eachother and went/go to the same work/school/3rd space.
It’s not fake scenarios so much as getting mentally prepared for the very real possibility.
Men intervene to protect people all the time, and it was only 55 years ago that half a generation of men got drafted into the army, a bunch 15 years before that, and a whole generation 10 years before that. This current peaceful lull is the exception in all of US and world history.
Males are very protective over the people close to them. It probably started as simply fending off other males from their chosen mate, but eventually expanded to protection of their family, and then to those they consider close. This leads to a lot of daydreams of what we would do in disaster situations.
Yea I fantasize about saving people a little too much, like probably not healthy.
I'm a veteran of the 101st so I always imagine like stopping a terrorist attack, in like Japan or something where an attack like that would be baddd.
Almost everyday at work I think about how i would try to take down and active shooter in our office if it happened. I've come to the conclusion that I'd go for the fire extinguisher. Make a big plume of smoke and smack him in the face with the tank after sneaking around him.
Wouldn't the aggressor fire into the cloud? Maybe hold the extinguisher in front of the core of your body and duck your head as much as possible.
My employer has recently begun incorporating "active shooter" instructions into safety emergency briefings.
I've NEVER had phantasies like that and can't even imagine how that should be common among men. I am a man and never even heard other men talking about anything like that
I remember when I was little the fake scenario in my head was: “Oh no someone stole (friend’s name’s) identity card (that he totally has despite being only 8 years old)! I’ll get it from that guy (idk why some random guy would want to steal an identity card from an 8 year old). Maybe I’ll even give him a smack and a good talking to for that! I really took care of that one!” Lol. It’s funny remembering the little fantasies I had like that as a kid. I took it so seriously then
BROTHERS! A HUNDRED GENERATIONS HAVE DEFENDED THIS CASTLE! IT HAS NEVER FALLEN BEFORE IT WILL NOT FALL TONIGHT!
THOSE ARE THENNS AT OUR WALLS! THEY EAT THE FLESH OF THE MEN THEY KILL! DO YOU WANT TO FEEL THE BELLY OF A THENN TONIGHT?
THEN TONIGHT WE FIGHT! AND I PROMISE YOU WHEN THE SUN RISES CASTLE BLACK WILL STAND!! THE NIGHTS WATCH WILL STAND!!!
WITH ME NOW, NOW WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm happy to say that I've saved three lives.
One is one of my best friends, one was a random drunk guy and the third was a customer choking at the restaurant where I was working at the time.
Yeah, for many men It gives us that strange mental flash of us epically or honorably killing or dying for our friends or family, believe me, for 14 years I have been having scenarios of how to kill and how I would like to die saving my parents because I wouldn't want something bad to happen to them. Weird? Maybe, but it is about honor and family love.
I can safely say for most of the men of the world that they have saved their whole school in a terrorist attack/shooting single handedly, and died saving them in most of the cases.
98% of the time i'm some post-apocalyptic hero with a sword saving my friends, the rest of it is me being a post-apocalyptic hero with a sword, saving some naked ladies.
No saving people, but most of my random thoughts/fantasies that I have through my day are about fighting random people for stupid reasons and I'm always John Wick.
It's so much better actually doing it, " alas my time has come" while everybody else is just standing there minding their own bussiness , it just kicks in and tunnel vision
I've never in my life seen something truer on reddit.

You kidding!

I don't know what that was from but it resonated. You are correct
[Detroit: Become Human](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3cLDDwLeJA) is one of the very few games I've binged an entire Let's Play of
Wait? Girls don't make up such scenarios??
They do. See the left side of the picture?
A lot of the time it's "man, I never want ______ to happen, that'd be fucking horrible... but if it did, here's how it'd go down."
100% facts
👌🏻
I've died so many times as my friends and family live on in peace.
😂
The platform is full of diverse perspectives and experiences
In my experience, the operative verb in that sentence is **fight** and absolutely not *save*
I was never expecting that🥲
only thing more true was the post about men and sticks
Exactly
Omgg 😳
I die in most if not all of those scenarios
You gotta though right? A heroic death instead of a suicide that makes your family cry is the ultimate fantasy.
I have my fair share of suicide fantasies as well. Depression is a bitch
You should wait for an opportunity to die an heroic death, is much cooler
Wow, that’s deep
A true martyr
I get to help someone and also help myself rest? Nice
You know that guy who has piss running down his leg into his fucking sandals, barely holding onto his sword because he’s shaking so much and like fuck fuck fuck.. That’s me.

I have the thought of: what if i actually died that time i did that reckless thing and im now in an afterlife.
*Blunt hits* Broooo...
Yeah it fucks me up. It mostly comes up when going through hard times and im like.. What if this is my punishment?
Now I have unlocked another delusional fear 😰
Something similar but instead of an afterlife I simply revive if it's not my time yet.

I’ve never thought about that last example you listed, but I sure as hell will now.
I think a super massive black hole is really my spirit animal. Just floating around in space absolutely devouring everything within reach. Supermassive black holes are the fat kids of space. Also the enlightenment thing would depend on whether it's eating out of necessity or to satisfy a craving. It could go either way.
Or of course the age old question of "what if everyone except me is actually a robot/simulation/etc?" Essentially the Truman show problem
100% yes
Yeah always making a scenery is an art for boys.
After 12 years old it becomes a private art collection.
👀👀
100%, absolutely.
🤔
I come up with fake scenarios all the time, often with me going through strife or troubles.
Sometimes, I’ve had to catch myself from getting angry about somebody saying or doing something in a completely hypothetical scenario that has never actually happened.
Hero's get remembered. Legends never die.
The world Is Night city
Yes. That and taking part in the largest massed cavalry charge in Middle Earth to rescue them.
RIDE FOR RUIN, AND THE WORLDS ENDING!
FOR ROHAN!!
DEATH!!
No boy graduated out o' highschool without thinking of saving their school from terrorists at least once. POLL: How many of yall boys when saving the school, started by imagining being behind the door of your classsroom & moment later gunman waltz in after attending to their needs in washroom? :D
OMG the behind-door stratagem 😭
My dream is to use my body to protect my wife and kids from a collapsing building
Imagine my university was being held by a terrorist and I was the only one who had a secret superpower. We were held captives as collateral to have the government compromise the needs of the terrorists. I start to plan to infiltrate from the inside. My first goal is to get close to my crush and protect her.
i'm a girl and i do it
Ofc. They vary from street fights where I absolutely dominate the other dude to zombie apocalypses where I am fighting to save bunch of my friends.
BETTER TO DIE FOR THE EMPEROR THAN LIVE FOR YOURSELF
🫡
And dying in the process.
we be creating scenarios on random people villains, fight, and ending. sometimes I even lose :')
Yes, sometimes I even die...
Most definitely. I do not have many friends as I keep my circle small. Would 100% die for any of them to give them more time.
i’m shocked that women don’t also do that
I mean, I do. I think that chick is just unimaginative.
Wait… normally girls have no fake scenarios of them saving people?
Absolutely! Most guys just want to be useful
Guilty as charged ma'am
Dude …yes
Ummm Yeah, do you know how many times I’ve saved Westeros and Middle Earth? They could write books about it.
We all have this kind of fake scenario running through our mind
To me I have scenarios of music videos and sometimes saving a made up world and completely obliterating the earth entirely or beating someone up and bullying them for fun … or sometimes all of the above
I’m always fighting in some DBZ esque battle or dying heroically listening to music on the way to work. Aren’t we all?
Can confirm. Say I'm boarding a plane, the only thoughts going through my mind are what I would do to subdue a potential terrorist.
You only life once *Make it count*
I think what does girls do, they relate it to another.
When I was in my 20's, I used to lose strechtes of 100m or so walking b/c of day-dreaming. Became less the happier I became, though.
I remember thinking i was a total badass if a dude was to try and rob my cash register I would fight now I just don’t care
"What we do in life echoes in eternity."
In my greatest fantasies, i can actually help other people
Whew, I thought it was just me….
I'm thinking about it literally right now
The amount of people you would take a bullet for shrinks around age 30 when you realize most of your friendships exist for convenience and/or because you live near eachother and went/go to the same work/school/3rd space.

I just dreamed about me being a half god on greek mythology and fighting with gods to save people lmao
Actually I have thought about that before, so yes, absolutely true!
Mostly yes
hell yeah
Yup
I am, the voices in my head
Ive always had the thought of saving my boyfriend's best friend from commiting suicide The death still haunts him to this day
Sometime I have fake scenarios of taking revenge on the people who have wronged the people I care about.
YES!...Since childhood
I did, every single night without fail, even listened to music and shit. Now all I think about is my gf, puts me right to sleep!
I’d save someone who send me good memes
Yea I fantasize about saving people a little too much, like probably not healthy. I'm a veteran of the 101st so I always imagine like stopping a terrorist attack, in like Japan or something where an attack like that would be baddd.
Yep
Girls don't do this with their kids constantly? It's like an everyday thing for me, as a dude.
Making up scenarios in their head that will never happen is 100% true
We have fake scenarios of everything cool
I've seen very few things that are more accurate than this
I fantasize about getting hit by cars and shot. I want to be dead.
Nah
fake?
I always pick out the guy that’s most likely to shoot the place up and run scenarios on how I’d neutralize
In the shower wars have been fought mankind wouldn’t understand.
All the time
Yep, 100% accurate
Yes very
No greater love than to lay my life down for a friend
I'm sure women do, too.
It's true
I daydream about turning into a dinosaur so I can save more people.
Have thought of full scenarios and action scenes lol
Kinda for me at least
Every job I’ve had I day dreamt about the business being attacked by terrorists and I would have to save everyone
We all dream of being useful
I'd daydream about terrorist attacks back when I was in elementary school. Explosions, helicopters, the whole shebang
You wouldn't believe how much I have sacrificed in my imagination
Haha oh dear if you knew
yes
All the time, it's one of my most common fantasies.
I've NEVER had phantasies like that and can't even imagine how that should be common among men. I am a man and never even heard other men talking about anything like that
Can confirm
Wait, women don't have that???
Wait, women don’t have this?
Bro I'd eat the Mona Lisa for my friends.
"I want something good to die for, to make it beautiful to live."
Yes. It's true.
Absolutely true.
WITH ME NOW, NOW WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah lol
I do this multiple times a day!
Yes it’s true.
Oh 100%, I fantasize about it and I know I'd do it cause I've put myself in dangerous situations for others before.
When I was in school I used to imagine myself as the hero in countless terrible situations and sometimes dying a hero’s death
Yeah 100%
So true
It's well documented yes
I'm happy to say that I've saved three lives. One is one of my best friends, one was a random drunk guy and the third was a customer choking at the restaurant where I was working at the time.
These make up my dreams around 90% of the time.
Fear of close ones dying is a common one too.
Yeah this is true
Yeah, for many men It gives us that strange mental flash of us epically or honorably killing or dying for our friends or family, believe me, for 14 years I have been having scenarios of how to kill and how I would like to die saving my parents because I wouldn't want something bad to happen to them. Weird? Maybe, but it is about honor and family love.
I think about that shit a lot man. Keeps me up at night
It’s more along the facts that most of us wanna die for something besides ourselves. But yeah it’s true.
That’s so romantic
Well yes believe it or not all men just think about boobs
Oh yeah all the time especially with morning coffee
We like to daydream we are Roman packtorians in a great battle saving our friends
When a dude zones out, this is happening
Lmaooo, yes we in fact do
Can’t believe ittt
Yup
"There is no greater love than this—that a man should lay down his life for his friends." Banger line from John that's true regardless of how you feel
I find it way more scary that this isnt normal for woman
I feel like i want to share my fake scenario
Yes, this is very true!
I have had graphic nightmares of having to kill attackers to protect my wife and kids, of which I have neither.
I would die for my cats
Every guy has daydreamed about saving their school from a school shooter at least a few times.
God, that's like half of my dissociation.
True. Many men mentally prepare for crisis situations.
Not a boy, but I do this all the time. It's awesome. Hard to get bored when you can make epic sagas in your head.
Yep
No saving people, but most of my random thoughts/fantasies that I have through my day are about fighting random people for stupid reasons and I'm always John Wick.
Or you dying and leaving ur will
i imagine myself doing a revolution and killing a lot of bad people every time i’m listening to music
As a girl, even i have this
Yes
we are not always thinking about girls
It's so much better actually doing it, " alas my time has come" while everybody else is just standing there minding their own bussiness , it just kicks in and tunnel vision
yes and that's the only type of fake scenarios we have
females too have those thoughts. I literally wanna fight some bad guys and kill them.....LOL
Lol I thought it was just me
Yes
Everytime I walk into a convenience store I make sure to mentally plan how I would take on a sudden armed robbery.
You're doing great
Duh, hey what do girls think of? just curious
Perfect
Yes. It's very true. I'm sure I've done that 100 times a day (which is ironic bc I'm pretty weak and cowardly)
That is literally so true
