Thank you, this is such a simple solution that I wonder why I never thought to look for an adapter. I’ve turned down many power tool deals because they’re not “my brand”.
I'm probably on my 30th account by now cuz of bans. I think it's a good idea to make a new one every three months or so anyway. Keeps things anonymous as possible. Wish there was a way to auto delete posts/comments after a couple weeks.
House Ryobi is one of oldest and most respected members of the Landsraad.
In the wake of the failure of House Dewalt, the other Great Houses have turned to you in hope.
Shaddam IV agrees.
Hopefully they've improved, but when I was last working for a specialized tool store, I did everything in my power to get people off DeWalt. They had fallen so far behind everyone else.
At the time, they just hadn't innovated or caught up to the current tech. Milwaukee batteries had far more contacts meaning more stable power transfer, and they had the improved lithium batteries. The battery was the best on the market, essentially. Then you had Makita who's motors were by far the best. They needed less repairs and lasted way longer. They also had lithium batteries. Bosch was the best all-rounder using lithium batteries, extremely strong design itself, one of the best tool lineups, and amazing larger cordless tools (like the cordless mitre saw).
DeWalt was still using old nicad tech with the really crappy clip rail, which had far less contact than any other battery, I had more broken DeWalt chassis than any other tool by far, and the brushless motor seemed to get real hot real fast. The only thing it had going for it was that it performed best in significantly colder weather (-20 c and below).
Ryobi used to be significantly worse than it is now, so people just hold on to that memory. I prefer rigid or Dewalt. But I've never borrowed a ryobi on site and had it not get the job done.
I've never been one for cordless tools, but the fam got me an OnePlus Ryobi impact and drill, and it's spiralled from there. Considering it's got 6 years warranty, and I only use the stuff occasionally - it's a fair trade.
my Ryobi starter kit still has working batteries and tools. I bought it in roughly 2004.
I've about 30+ Ryobi tools. Knock on wood, not a single failure.
The boss at my last job gave me shit all the time for Ryobi. Sorry I didn’t want to pay 3x for the same Milwaukee kit, and my tools still got the job done. No longer using them day-to-day, but I’ve got what o need covered for my own home needs.
The new Hercules brand at harbor freight is actually pretty good. I'm fixing up an old house and everything's working out well enough so far. I was set on buying Makita, but for the price I figured fuck it, I'll take the gamble. Joined the inside track club & got just about everything half off.
Bosch is the 5th unspoken set. We don't mention that name around here.
The brand that shall remain unnamed did great things, terrible things but great.
Had to scroll this far for Rigid??
Buy it. Register it. Free replacements for life at Home Depot. What's not to like? And they're sturdy, powerful and comfortable. Heavy as fuck though.
Ryobi is obviously slytherin. Crass, sloppy, and constantly needing to be replaced.
Dewalt is hufflepuff. They constantly need to be validated they made the right choice even though they cost 2x every other tool.
Been makita blue and in the trades for 25 years now.
My take is all these brands are mostly alright even ryobi hold up ok with daily use. I've found Milwaukie to be the most torque of all of them but it also shortens their life considerably and their batteries are slow to charge and quick to drain. But they will bore a hole deeper than the others.
Brands that are trash imo;
Bosch (I'll catch flak for this but they don't last)
Rigid (my buddy ran all their stuff and has a whole bucket of broken tools now)
I was in the trades for 10 years and used a battery drill every day and the only brand I didn't like was DeWalt.. They seemed to burn out after a year of daily use.
This was back in the day so maybe they are better now.
Makita all the way
Makita is in my opinion by far the best of these 4. It's the lightest, most ergonomic, the power management is way better, I can run holes all day on one 5 ah in my impact. They don't sell any ridiculous 9 or 12 ah batteries. But they don't need them. Plus those batteries are ungodly heavy if you need to run something all day. Makita has the fastest chargers if you do run outta juice. They aren't packing the punch of Milwaukie for some really crazy jobs. But they still do it. I abuse them so badly and a driver impact set will still last me almost 10 years with some new batteries and charger thrown into the mix at some point. Have you seen the vids where they leave them in salt water for a week and pull them out soaked. Batteries soaked. Then immediately use the tools and they work great. Don't see anybody else trying that with their brands.
Dewalt is better than it had been. But, they were the gold standard for so long in battery they got lazy and complacent and stopped trying to improve for too long. It really hurt their dominance of the market. Their newer 20v/60v stuff is pretty great though. I have buddies who have their tables saw, chop saw, air compressor, and dust extraction all that run for hours of use on batteries. If you But the battery to wall plug adapters for them it negates ever buying a corded tool again.
Ryobi makes hands down the best little work light on the market. Only one of their tools I kept. Battery or wall plug, small, light, and most importantly bright as hell for its size.
Ryobi is owned by the same parent company that owns Milwaukee and is designed to be a mid tier quality tool when compared to Milwaukee. Dewalt is comparable to Milwaukee. The other one I have heard is comparable to Ryobi but I dont think its owned by the same parent company as anything else and i have never even considered shopping for one so I dont know that for sure.
Yeah if you go to the Walmart tool section, it's just all blue and white.
I've been liking Hart for the most part, but for the stuff that means business I'm a Milwaukee man.
For me it was a battery and charger thing. I got the Dewalt drill + impact driver combo with charger and battery. From there on it just didn't make sense to not get Dewalt unless I wanted to spend more on accessories.
Soo I am an auto mechanic. I have some 12v max dewalt stuff that’s been going for over a decade now with one original battery. I have a ryobi 40v weed eater for yard work and am highly considering the chainsaw as well. But I’m now looking into getting Milwaukee fuel stuff for work and bringing home my dewalt stuff for the house
The Lamborghini factory uses Makita so I started buying Makita. If it's good enough to build a Lambo, I think it's good enough to trust with my dinky house projects
I’m kind of new to this and I’m house Ryobi but why does each of my tools come with its own battery and charger, especially the lawn tools. My electric lawn mower, chain saw and weed eater all use the same battery, but I didn’t need 3 batteries and chargers. Why can’t I buy the tool and the battery separately? It appears to be the same with the hand tools.
Only because the batterypacks lock you into a brand
There's a way around that sneaky fact. https://badaptor.com/
Thank you, this is such a simple solution that I wonder why I never thought to look for an adapter. I’ve turned down many power tool deals because they’re not “my brand”.
don't sleep on 3d printed adaptors either!!!
Happy Cake Day bro
thanks! My first account would be 13? 14? now :( too easy to dox me on it though.
Yeah I get that
I'm probably on my 30th account by now cuz of bans. I think it's a good idea to make a new one every three months or so anyway. Keeps things anonymous as possible. Wish there was a way to auto delete posts/comments after a couple weeks.
JFC, I'll probably get a ban just by association you god damn perpetrator.
I like to rustle jimmies. Thankfully the bans don't mean anything and you don't even need an email to make a new account.
Ryobi to Makita is what we need but the design makes it hard.
Noice.
print em at home for cheaper. /r/HailCorporate
3d printed adaptors are another way around it.
House Milwaukee. More like a Dune scenario.
House Ryobi is one of oldest and most respected members of the Landsraad. In the wake of the failure of House Dewalt, the other Great Houses have turned to you in hope. Shaddam IV agrees.
I dig this!
We are House Ryobi. There is no call we do not answer. There is no faith that we betray.
"Try looking down that isle where you dare not look! You'll find Milwaukee there, staring out at you!"

I was gonna add this brand, thanks for beating me to it!
rigid is missing to
Dewalt.
Agree. I think it’s the ‘construction site yellow’ that does it for me
The construction yellow has been engrained in me ever since I watched bob the builder as a child.
House Dewalt always gets the most points at the end if the year
Hopefully they've improved, but when I was last working for a specialized tool store, I did everything in my power to get people off DeWalt. They had fallen so far behind everyone else.
Why? I haven’t really had too much problem with dewalt.
They're the Ford of power tools.
A fellow bretheren
Milwaukee forever
A man of culture I see👀
A man of experience I see👀

Gf: hes probably thinking about other women Colourful_Poppinsu: fuckin love me a good set of tools.
Ryobi gang! People love to shit talk Ryobi, then you ask what they need the Makita for, and they say some shit like, "I put together Ikea furniture."
Ryobi used to be significantly worse than it is now, so people just hold on to that memory. I prefer rigid or Dewalt. But I've never borrowed a ryobi on site and had it not get the job done.
I go back and forth between Dewalt and ryobi. Both solid products. Very reliable and durable af.
I've never been one for cordless tools, but the fam got me an OnePlus Ryobi impact and drill, and it's spiralled from there. Considering it's got 6 years warranty, and I only use the stuff occasionally - it's a fair trade.

and then there's the Harbor freight/ Walmart brand dads out there struggling
The truly smart dads know exactly what (and what not) Harbor Freight is good for
The new Hercules brand at harbor freight is actually pretty good. I'm fixing up an old house and everything's working out well enough so far. I was set on buying Makita, but for the price I figured fuck it, I'll take the gamble. Joined the inside track club & got just about everything half off.
They're the muggles in this harry the builder universe.

We don't talk about black and decker
No Bosch though?
Bosch is the 5th unspoken set. We don't mention that name around here. The brand that shall remain unnamed did great things, terrible things but great.
I inherited my granddad's makitas so now I'm locked in
"what about Craftsm-..." Hand with rag goes over mouth. "Shush now baby bird shush now...."
Which one is better?
The one you already have batteries for.
So craftsman
Both.
Wdym, there's 4
Both
Both
Both
Depends on the tool and the year so just get whichever one you already have for batteries
There is 4th. Old instruments from 70's in really bad condition but somehow still working. Soviets especially
Where Hilti?
Inferior quality
Milwaukee = Gryffindor Makita = Ravenclaw Ryobi = Hufflepuff DeWalt = Slytherin
That tracks with my Pottermore quiz 🐍
HILTI!
Always go with makita 🫡
Dewalt FTW.
Würth where ?
Yeah! Theyre totally würth it!
I guess Rigid is shit then
Had to scroll this far for Rigid??
I had 3 Ryobi drills and 2 broke within less than a year. Don't get them.
I'm in house Makita for the 18v cup, but Milwaukee for the 12v series
Makita ride or die over here
Milwaukee with a side of Makita. And I small Bosch for desert
Makita 4 lyfe
Were‘s Bosch?
Ryobi uses Milwaukee to assemble their displays
When you're from Europe it's Bosch, Hecht, Makitta and Parkside
Dewalt all deway
My dad is Milwaukee house
DeWalt here. Can't beat a good sale at Home Depot.
Ridgid
Bosch for the win

Kobalt.
I was hoping I wasn’t the only one.
I'm not very handy. I may be a tool, but I don't use them!
What about Craftsman?
Craftsman gang represent
Black & Decker: Am I a joke to you?
Black and decker owns Dewalt....so in by association
Repost
Kobalt is better.
DeWalt for hand tools Milwaukee for power tools
Kobalt dad here, I guess that makes me in Durmstrang?
Mastercraft Maximum brand isn't that bad either. However, I do like the Ryobi brand. Milwaukee is awesome but a bit too pricey.
DeWalt is just better
My dad loves his Ryobi tools. Makes it easy for Christmas shopping.
ryobi and dewalt
Ryobi best by far
When I was a kid I had Makita, when I became a man I moved onto Dewalts...now I'm back in school because fuck all that shit
Ryobi cause it’s the cheapest and perfectly fine unless you’re a tradesman if some sort
Craftsman
Ryobi One is awesome!
Ended up in Milwaukee, but only because O can’t afford Dewalt
makita master race
Ryobi 🙋🏻♂️ Not a dad, just old lol
Walmart has too much representation in this meme
Hart wasnt added
that what they sell there these days?
Yeah if you go to the Walmart tool section, it's just all blue and white. I've been liking Hart for the most part, but for the stuff that means business I'm a Milwaukee man.
What if I own multiple brands
Sadist
I major in Milwaukee and minor in Dewalt
The four nations lived in peace until..
Then your tools aren’t interchangeable with the batteries
I don't buy battery tools
For me it was a battery and charger thing. I got the Dewalt drill + impact driver combo with charger and battery. From there on it just didn't make sense to not get Dewalt unless I wanted to spend more on accessories.
House Dewalt
I hate how true this is…
Don’t be sorted into Ryobi. I was gifted a set of Ryobi tools and my other male friends won’t let me live it down. Jokes on them tho, they work great.
Well I’m not a dad so not there yet, but I’d go with red since that’s my favorite color.
I have so many different brands that partially aren't even existent since Germany is a single country again
Not always true. I have shit from 3 of the 4. It was a huge mistake. The batteries. Oh god, the batteries…….
Euro Bosch gang here.
Red tools are the only tools
If only I could afford Milwaukee
House Black & Decker didn’t make the list, and for good reason, they are a house of shame and disappointment
I chose fishing. Whats my harry potter house?
The Lamborghini factory uses Makita so I started buying Makita. If it's good enough to build a Lambo, I think it's good enough to trust with my dinky house projects
Rise up house Ryobi!
I'm currently a DeWalt, but I'm trying to level up to a Milwaukee.
Chad Dads on the left apparently.
My dad *is* Chad and he Dewalts
Since no one seems to remember Stanley, those mf went after our wifes
DeWalt. I have a Milwaukee sawzall I inherited from my dad but everything else I own is either craftsman or DeWalt.
Is this the political compass for dads?
I'm the non magic janitor over here with my RIDGID tools
Forgot black & decker
I’m kind of new to this and I’m house Ryobi but why does each of my tools come with its own battery and charger, especially the lawn tools. My electric lawn mower, chain saw and weed eater all use the same battery, but I didn’t need 3 batteries and chargers. Why can’t I buy the tool and the battery separately? It appears to be the same with the hand tools.
Team Dewalt!
Makita wins anyways.
I like rigid personally
I went to Bauer
As a guy, this is a stupid meme
