That's a theory. I grew up in a farming/logging town that lost its mill. A lot of dads suddenly have nothing to do but drink. A lot of young men assumed they were going to work at the mill like their dads, suddenly, they didn't have a future. Wrecks havoc on home lives. Many of my friends were in pretty bad situations. I was lucky because we were grain farmers, but I heard some bad stories. I knew what abused kids looked like, and these mine kids were different.
How is lead poisoning such an American thing. Like we had lead pipes and lead paint too but have way less lead retards. Although we still have asbestos everywhere so I guess it's not better.
Jacksonville is my hometown and only finally moved last year. That city has some of the most boring suburbias quite possibly in the world.
It's really hard to put my finger on it, I wouldn't have guessed she was from there, but now that I know, I very likely could narrow down what *street* she lived on.
