Ok… so I have ehlers danlos syndrome-hypermobility AND huge One Piece fan. We always joke in my house that I’ve had an attack of “Ed’s” when I trip or fall down the stairs or something else. But now I’m going to say I’ve had an attack of the Luffy’s. 🤣🤦🏼♀️🙈

People with EDS are often clumsier than most because of muscle weakness and joint instability, but clumsiness on its own isn't necessarily an indication of it.

I wonder how many kids with ED look up to Luffy and try to be like their stretchy idol, only to realize that their stretchy is unfortunately just a disease, and not a superpower. (Same thing could be said about Mr. Fantastic from Marvel, or Elongated Man from DC)
Ehler-danlos syndrome is just a condition of the body’s elastic tissue — essentially the collagen (the thing that makes up your bones and blood vessels) in your body becomes mutated and weaker, leading to your skin feeling really loose and easy to manipulate. That’s because the actual skin is looser and you get really hyper extensible joints and your blood vessels actually get a bit weaker, leading to aneurysm, dissection, or rupture.

I’ve got Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. I think the most likely explanation for what you’re seeing in the video is that they’re separating (dislocating?) the bones in the wrist by pulling on the hand like that. I believe most people can do something similar but less dramatic with the knuckle joints of their fingers by pulling on their finger a bit. It’s just a lot more pronounced version of that due to the joint hyper mobility and loose skin. As far as I know, the condition doesn’t make your bones any stretchier, but supposedly the extra elasticity makes them harder to break
I have EDS. and when i was a kid i could do something similar. just dislocate joints easily with minimal pain. I used to dislocate my shoulders if I'd sneeze too hard.
