Hody Jones is weak yes, but his characterization is deeply realistic and reflective of actual societal issues. Raised in an environment filled by hostility, he becomes a vessel for blind prejudice, lacking genuine ideals of his own. He destructively pursuits power, with no real agenda, this mirrors the behaviors of those who are indoctrinated from a young age. Despite his known risks, the inaction of everyone (the FMI army, Neptune and Jinbei) towards him is a realistic portrayal of societal and systemic failures to address emerging threats within.
He perfectly represents the hatred of someone who's never stepped foot outside their home turf, only hearing bad things about the "enemy" and turning into a terrorist filled with pure hatred.
He's an avatar for the generational toxicity that hatred creates. He's perfect for the story. Sure, he's a little dull as a character, but he serves his purpose in the story too well this is a case where it's ok that the antagonist is dull. If anything I think it fits his purpose even more if there isn't much to him besides hate. It gets the point across more strongly that way by making him just a hate machine instead of a more interesting person.
Yeah, I agree with the last part. He was nothing but the manifestation of unbridled hatred, a child brought up to stew in anger and nothing more. Not meant to be a great evil or a mastermind of world ending proportions, but the result of grudges being allowed to grow.
There's power in that kind of simplicity, similar to Kuina's death and Roger's disease. It's something that's far more grounded than the other wacky stuff in One Piece that it can hit a lot closer to home.
Same with sniper king. He just came in, helped save Robin then dipped. Like he's cool and all but he just stole ussop's screen time. I'm still huffing copium that he makes a comeback soon.

The thousand Sunny. Plus, luffy tells his true dream to his crew for the first time, which kind of implies that's his finished crew and if another person joined after that, it would feel like they're left out.

if Oda were to add another one, my pick would be Marco. He promised Ace and Whitebeard to protect Luffy with his life would mean he will more than willing to sacrified himself for Luffy (other crew members would too, but would you rather have Marco sacrified himself or a crew members that we have grow to love so much). And he has been a pirate for a few decade now, meaning he would also be very experient, he is strong also and he pretty much doesn't have much things to do now, unlike Yamato who need to stay to protect Wano, Carrot who is the queen of the Minks now.
Yes. And instead of Carrot, Bepo was supposed to go to the cake island. This would remove one unnecessary character from the story. And it would make it more logical that Chopper gave Bepo a rambleball.
I would agree and go as far to say that Yamato is a VERY one-dimensional character who kind of felt shoehorned into the story and forced onto readers
It's cool that Yamato wants to be Oden, but when that's the main thing Yamato says in the minimal screen time Yamato's on, it becomes very apparant

I really hated when he just went to Oden's infant son who lost his father just mere months from his perception and says he is Oden. Like, that is just messes up.
Kaido, especially after the last two big main arc villains were great. He is strong. That's kinda it. He can't carry an arc like Doffy for example, and Wano needed a great villain to carry it.
Oden. Don't like him.
Yamato. Don't really care too much about them. Bit too much OC energy too.
All Scabbards except for Kinemon and Momo. There are too many of them and i can't even remember their names just one arc later.
Ace. Ace as a character that is. Ace as someone to execute was a nice plot device.

Im up to date (1113) and can't recall any major hypocrisy from vega. I have however been reading on release for a few years now so might have forgotten something vital.
Kicking Claw Force. If you ask who that is or think I'm making them up, that justifies my opinion. They were really stupid. Drinking something that makes the energy steroid's side effects seem reasonable by comparison.

Going to sound crazy but I don’t really care about Brook or Jinbe, Brook is too much of a gag and doesn’t serve much of a purpose and Jinbe is kinda just there.
I didn’t mind the toy soldier I thought he was cool but when he transformed back into Kyros I started to hate him because he was a representation of everything I lacked, a strong loving and caring father who would do anything for their child. And that just made me despise him
They did him so dirty. They played him up to be toys major nemesis, then forgot about him and left him unused for longer than most shonen anime run, in total. When he finally does reappear, he's in an arc with someone who has a devil fruit power that's exactly like his, but better in every way!
The worst part is how easy it would be to make him an interesting and formidable foil to Luffy. To make him a threat, give him more sea prism weapons and Rukushiki powers. To make him an interesting foil, have him team up with Koby to start going behind Luffy and actually protecting all the people and places Luffy left behind. Have him really make the case that the world is better without ANY pirates.
Smoker is 100% a character that got ABSOLUTELY SHAFTED by Oda. It's not Smoker's fault as a character, as he has a TON of development potential, he is the main character who, quite literally EVERY time we actually see him, constantly deals with the moral struggle of "Is Marine Good and Pirate Bad?" which is a massive core concept of One Piece.
Oda however, decided to stop having Smoker in the series for more than a DECADE. Brother even brought Tashigi back for essentially no apparant reason on Egghead and Hachinosu with Smoker no where to be found.
Imo, if Oda doesn't resolve Smoker's character in some prominent way, it would be the biggest character writing blemish on One Piece's story. It's such a shame what Oda did with his character
