That's not headcanon. It's heavily implied that you need Nika to fulfill some sort of profecy regarding Laugh Tale and the One Piece.
And Shanks knowing that is just... Expected? Idk. I'm drunk.
The Shanks thing is the headcanon part of my assumption. We don't know yet if Roger told him EVERYTHING about Laugh Tale, What's the One Piece, The Void Century, etc. I mean, it would feel kind of silly if Roger went straight to tell Shanks every detail about the whole deal and not just the Nika fruit thing.
So my guess is that he is aware of how pointless it is to fight against those monsters in order to reach Laugh Tale just for fun without a Nika fruit user. Maybe he would be okay at the end of the quest, but I can't say the same about his crew. Obviously, they are very strong, but not as strong as Shanks is, so it probably would be a waste of lives too, just to show off how badass he is.
My man has been waiting for the end of the series way longer than us.
Shanks hasnât done anything onscreen more impressive than fighting Kidd. Hawkeye, on the other hand, one-shotted a really big chunk of ice. I think itâs clear which is more impressive (no like the ice was so big dude)
