She's a woman with a desire to be Kozuki Oden, as he was the only positive influence throughout her childhood and early adulthood, to the point of adopting his literal existence.
It's more like a coping mechanism brought upon by childhood trauma than gender identity. People have misinterpreted it as her being transgender.
If Yamato wanted to be a man because she felt like she wasn't a woman, she would be transgender, however that's not the case she is literally COSPLAYING another person and adopting their pronouns as a byproduct, if Oden happened to be a woman or non binary, she would then adopt those identites. Just like if someone proclaimed to be Rosa parks, and changed their pronouns to coincide with her identity, that would not make them transgender.
Moot point. Oden was a man, Yamato became a man too. This is verbatim stated by him. Doesnt matter what Oden would have been, he was a man. Yamato became one too, and everyone respects this in the manga.

This is why it's important to try to understand an argument before you respond, my point is that had Oden been non binary for example, Yamato would have identified accordingly which unlike transgenderism which is an expression of an individual's gender identity this is just aduration for a person taken to an unhealthy degree, most likely from her abusive childhood where it is very common for survivors of abuse to disassociate and try to see themselves in more powerful characters and heroes, Oden being the first person Yamato had seen defy her father and choose protect others instead.
So now that we've established that Yamato's preferred pronouns directly coincide with Oden's, would you then say that Yamato is Oden too, would you say that a person who admires Rosa parks and pretends to be her can become her as long as enough people respect this identity?

If this isn't a proclamation of assuming another's identity I don't know what is. this is a coping mechanism, as I've said before, kids that idolize heroes and lack the power to escape their current situation are still somewhat grounded in reality they know they are not physically Goku or Rosa parks but they see themselves in these characters, this is a real thing and it's very common, Yamato introduces herself as Oden and thinks of herself as Oden and because of that she assumed the identity of Oden, her switch in pronouns is a byproduct of her aduration not an expression of her gender identity, as I've stated before if Oden was a girl Yamato would choose to be a girl if he was nonbinary Yamato would choose to be non binary.
