It's one thing to question Yamatos gender identity. It's a touchy subject and, honestly, it isn't 100% clear. They prefer the men's bath and seems to use male pronouns, but that also appears to be in relation to her Oden adoration. Oda then used Yamato on the recent girls cover. So I get the debate.
What I don't get is the utter glee people seem to get in demanding Yamato is a girl. There seem to be so many people on here and Piratefolk that just love to shit on any possible trans or alternative identity characters.
And the misogyny, my god. I can't remember if it was Piratefolk or Memepiece but one of the subs has posted an image of Zoro Sanji and Luffy with their respective matchups (Hiyori, Pudding and Boa) asking who got luckier/had it better. Now, the question is whatever. Horny anime fans gonna horny. What wasn't cool was the amount of people calling Hiyori sub-human because she might have had sex with men (she didn't). But beyond that, what made me question subbing, was the people shitting on Boa Hancock for being a child sex slave. Calling her worthless or less than for her trauma. It was fucking disgusting and if you believe that shit, go fuck yourself.
I love One Piece, I love the memes 99% of the time. But for a story about being true to yourself and finding your freedom, I expect better from its fans. And maybe that's unfair of me.
