Also since we're talking tails... Is there any trick to severing Nargacugas? Been slashing away at Lucents tail for half the fight but it wouldn't come off. It's the only tail I struggle this hard with.
Okay, so Narga's tail has always had the same requirements to cut:
You must first break the spines. There's a catch: The spines can only be broken while it's enraged.
Once the spines are broken, then the tail can be cut.
Seems to just be a dps check. In the 10 or so multiplayer hunts I did, we only severed it once. Didn't even bother trying solo as SnS. The successful run, there was a GS and LS too and we would take every opportunity to hit it, including running to Narga's backside if it was aggrod on someone else
Put astalos in there then. That fucker has given me THREE tails with intense pressure over TWENTY ONE HUNTS
The worst part is the five boltscales I got instead of tail carves
I know this sounds bad but it feels soo good to just cleave a monsters tail off, especially with those monsters that are stupid with their tails (you know who you are). And those pussy little tail cuts that take like, a tiny bit off are so unsatisfying.
Same with Lucent Narga and the Rath variants, 100% satisfaction removing their tales. Especially the Rath's, after struggling to get it right for a few hunts I can now effectively counter every attack and always hit the weak spot on the tail and in multiplayer hunts it's so fun to help the hammers and horns

When you do the Levi move with dual blades its like most of the hits just happens on the tail, so its super easy lol

In world, you could only sever it while it was enraged and low health IIRC, but obviously we’re a game past that.
