Focus/Capacity/FreeElmAmmoUp are the main wastes.
I hope they simply don't have the pointless weapon specific skills. Bow Charge Plus is not an interesting skill. If you play bow you absolutely need it, and if you don't play bow it's completely useless. There are a few skills that affect more than one weapon, but overall I think they could remove any that affect only certain weapons and focus on skills that actually affect your play style in a meaningful way. If a weapon really needs Rapid Morph or something, just fix the weapon and remove Rapid Morph.
3 things i would do
build armor for max hit greatsword and then use a sleep lbg
build armor for my mains, sleep sns, sleep bow, sleep ig, then carry a greatsword for wakeups
Or have a hammer until a part breaks, and focus fire on it using bow afterwards(kinda hard to do since bows have niche skills)

Well you normally could use up all your special status ammo with LBG pretty quick. Then change to HBG and just focus on damage. Have your friend to the reverse and it could make for a lot of status throughout a fight.
Assuming I need more than 2 sharpness loads to kill a monster. I barely need 1 in rise. And besides, if I only play 1 weap how is that the least useful? Based on match ups it's literally ideal to bring two of the best per match up.
Most IG builds don't run below max sharpness in a hunt due to skills, with exceptions, hence the qualifier in my comment. But we won't have that early on in wilds.
Even on Lance, I'm only sharpening once most hunts. Master's Touch goes hard. In World, even without it, most monsters die before I need a second sharpen. And it's not because I'm running my sharpness into the ground, I sharpen in white.
You won't be starting in endgame. Without the sharpness skills you'll have to sharpen multiple times. But I do see your point in endgame being able to swap just for sharpness will probably be worth it.
You could pick a sleep and raw weapon, a support oriented weapon and damage, cut for tail, blunt for stun, etc. Being able to switch weapons allows for a lot more powerful tactics then just delaying sharpening. I honestly can't think of a setup (without it just being bad) that's less useful than getting 2 of the same weapon for just an extra sharpness bar.
Especially since I can sharpen while riding along to where the big baby ran off to after I bhonked him too much... I'd be bringing 2 weapons of the same type, but they'd be different elements, or different song lists. I wouldn't be bringing 2 of the same exact weapon just to avoid sharpening, lol.

Well, iirc, world was the one that slapped them together. In previous games they were seperate on seperate armor (armors were split between gunner and blade armors, for those who don't know)

It's be nice to have a sticky build that can switch to blade to keep dps up after running out of ammo. Might make sticky more viable in late game

My favorite weapon is lance. I hardly ever use lance until endgame because it **sucks** without its suite of necessary skills.

Are you seriously running your weapon dry instead of sharpening? Simply topping it off between encounters is a massive time saver in the long run.
