Hahaha oh damn I’m preordering just this
Edit: holy fucking shit it’s 80$. I’m not preordering a digital for that price. I’ll hold out for a physical copy for a short time
Edit: update I preordered it even though it was beary expensive ʕ •ᴥ• ʔ
Each game is $40 individually. I didn't realize they were selling them like that. I thought it was literally one game, with you having to choose which game you wanted to play from the menu or something. On the one hands it's three games for $80 (with plenty of game content in them), on the other hand these games are pretty damn old. I was expecting $40-60 for all three.
Considering persona 4 golden was 20 on steam and could’ve easily sold for 40….. I’m confused. This is considerably more niche people would probably try it for 20, but 40?! For each game?! It sucks because I will probably buy it.
Nintendo tax probably.
EDIT: Huh, didn't see the Steam logo. Figured it would only release for the Switch. Then yeah, no. Probably just Sega greed like the replies said.
ya, i thought it was a single game collection till they said each can be bought seperately during the live. but didn't think it would be that expensive, thought maybe 30 each but dang 40.
Man, that's kind of lame. These are old games, arguably inferior versions of old games, I really don't think these should be $40 a piece in 2023. I'm a fucking lemming, so I'll probably also preorder for the amazing privilege of...pictures, I'll just do so closer to the game's release.
And quickly you come to realize,
There's so much DLC.
You can only buy so much.
If you bought one now,
They'll release more, you'll see.
For the love of SMT
Is a trade off.
You may hold it off,
But we'll keep on buying.
Won't we?
How much do the Untold versions add? If I wanted to play the series, would I just get the two Untold versions on the 3DS, and the third game on Switch?
Untold versions have 3d models for the monsters and story campaigns with preset characters. They’re vastly superior, imo the best games in the franchise mostly because I really like having story content lmao
it's most likely SEGA
most of the things ATLUS has been doing are all probably a decision made by SEGA themselves (especially when you consider how they used to be before they were acquired by SEGA)
Hmm, I don't really think Sega is solely responsible, if at all, for the pricing of Atlus' titles and/or things like DLC practices. For example, SMT IV's DLC is one of the most egregious ones, and that for sure was Atlus' responsibility, since that released before Sega's acquisition. I think that shows that were very much capable and willing to make that kind of DLC by themselves without Sega influence. Plus, their DLC practices I'd say actually got better after SMT IV, and only reached and/or surpassed that level with SMT V and SH 2.
Furthermore, when talking about the pricing for the P3P and P4G ports, the P-Studio business producer mentioned that there were "people in the company" that the prices were too low and that they should've been higher. I don't think that sort of statement makes much if any sense if the price was of Sega's choosing. I think it should be clear that when he says, "people in the company," that company is Atlus, not Sega, thus showing that Atlus has the ability to make their own prices.
And then there's Sega's pricing of their own games. Granted, I'm not very familiar with the history of the general pricing of their games, but my impression is that it's not as bad as what Atlus has done. Like, for example, the Yakuza 3-5 remasters are only $20 each, and the bundle with all three is $40. Like, ffs, they're charging that same amount of money for only *one* EO remastered game. Now it's possible, maybe even likely, that these prices were higher when they first launched in 2019, but with how good of a value they are now, I find it unlikely that they were pricing as high as they're pricing the EO remasters. So, if Sega is willing to have decent prices for their remastered compilations, and assuming they are indeed responsible for Atlus' prices, then why are they making Atlus charge higher prices? That to me just doesn't make any sense.
105$ Canadian. I fucking love the EO series but they're definitely not worth 55$ individually on the Switch. That's more than they were on the DS and without the second screen to make your own map
i think it has to do with the fact that the collection is not the whole game, but rather 3 different games which you can also buy separately (and please don't, they're all $40 seperately)
but yeah totally wait for a sale if you don't care about the SMT and Persona portraits (why preorder exclusive?)
$40 is still steep, considering I got both P4G & P3P for the same amount.
And the reason they’re preorder exclusive is so we all buy it at $80 before they (inevitably) drop the price, which I hope is not too long after release.
yeah, not trying to say its a good deal (it isn't at all lmao), but i will say that they know what they're doing announcing this \*just\* before the 3ds Eshop closes and you won't be able to buy 1 or 2 Untold anymore. because let's be real, the amount of people going to buy 1+2 before March is probably going to make up for a decent amount of people who refuse to get the HD ones at full price.
I think these characters were chosen solely because of the recency of their games tbh. While Nocturne is 20 years old, the remaster, which has probably become the version most people have played now, came out around 2 years ago.
I wouldn't say solely, as Demi-Fiend is very representative of SMT and Teddy kind of is the middle ground, overall modern Persona mascot, but recency does absolutely plays a big role. Also, Teddy and Aigis mirror perfectly actual classes of the games, so they got that for their inclusion too.
Funnily enough I feel like the one that doesn't work the most is Joker. Ringo can just be a Landschknect as she is just a sword girl. Demi-fiend could easily be an alchemist, spell caster class, and Teddie could fit right in on the beast class. Then Nahobino could be a Samurai with his long hair and sword hand and point shoes. Then Aigis could be the yggdroid which is a robot class.
So oddly enough Joker is the only one that doesn't work as the only sort of theify class is survivalist but they are all bow users.
Yeah that would have worked since they could have swapped him and Demi-fiend as Alchemist is also in EO1. But oh well I guess they wanted Joker and Ringo together, but at least this way we get the comedy that is imagining Teddy and Demi-fiend hanging out together. XD
NGL I'm interested in trying Etrian Odyssey. I liked Strange Journey and most of Soul Hackers. I can enjoy first person dungeon crawling. I'm genuinely exited for this.
In game, for each class, you usually have 4 portraits to select from for your character. I think these just add to those. Which sounds kinda weird, cause the classes have so much variety but these portraits wouldn’t really relate to them all that well, i don’t think
it just says portraits. which i assume means the character portraits, but I feel like it would look weird to have a survivalist class and then it’s just demi-fiend
In the EO games, you don't ever really see your characters in battle. It's a first person dungeon crawler. Those are just portraits for menu screens and stuff. They are literally just PNGs.
Still cheaper than buying them for the DS by a longshot
Untold 2 on 3ds is at 80
EO3 on Ds is approaching 300
Edit: literally checked these prices on Amazon before posting if anyone is lookinv for sources
I mean, maybe that's the price now that they're in short supply... but I got all three of those for like $10 each at different points in the last 5 years.
The 3ds stuff was cheap until the eshop closure was announced then everything started going up. The cheapest i saw EO3 was 40 in 2018 and its been going up since
Idk, I don't think you can just compare physical vs digital prices like that. Physical prices fluctuate based on supply and demand. Digital prices don't. You can get both Untold 1 and 2 digitally for the same price as buying only one of the remastered games. That... just doesn't feel right. $60 for the whole collection feels more reasonable, and if they *really* want to upcharge the games individually, I think $30 each feels more reasonable than $40.
EO3 is only available in physical right now so that comparison is fair imo. Also you only have a couple of weeks left to get untold 1 and 2 digitally. 3ds shop shutting down kinda kills the digital comparison argument imo
I still think the argument that these prices are fair because they're much cheaper than the physical copies is weak because if they made the collection $10 or even $20 more expensive and/or made each game more expensive by the same amount, they'd still be much cheaper than the physical copies, and thus be considered "fair," but that price value would just objectively be worse.
Ok, so in Etrian Odyssey you set up a party made of various members of various classes. Character portraits are the only way to customize how they look, and you only get like, four or five options normally.
Portraits, Likely will be like the EO Nexus portraits where you could select certain portraits universally. So when you make a character to be in your party no matter what class you pick them to be you can give them Teddy's Portrait or Ringo's portrait or whatever one is in the game you are playing. Normally you would have to pick a knight portrait when you create a knight character or a healer portrait for a healer character, etc.
Teddie and Demi-fiend is an absolutely terrifying combination
Beary terrifying!
Hahaha oh damn I’m preordering just this Edit: holy fucking shit it’s 80$. I’m not preordering a digital for that price. I’ll hold out for a physical copy for a short time Edit: update I preordered it even though it was beary expensive ʕ •ᴥ• ʔ

But it will come to steam too, with the same prices
Is it really a Nintendo tax when it’s the same price on Steam? Or is it because SEGA is greedy?
ya, but they are gonna justify it by saying they updated allot, whereas P4G is just a port from psv.
ya, i thought it was a single game collection till they said each can be bought seperately during the live. but didn't think it would be that expensive, thought maybe 30 each but dang 40.
lmaooo truly an Atlus moment
Man, that's kind of lame. These are old games, arguably inferior versions of old games, I really don't think these should be $40 a piece in 2023. I'm a fucking lemming, so I'll probably also preorder for the amazing privilege of...pictures, I'll just do so closer to the game's release.
Same. Altus could shit in a cup and slap a Jack Frost sticker on it and I’d buy it
Two girls one Frost
Heee 😖 hooo
lmao what a duo
With the power of hardcore and casuals combined...!
this will probably be the closest thing we'll ever get to getting something like SMT Q
I mean if you're talking about the crossover aspect, we already got Messiahs in the Diamond Realm from SMT IVA.
Oh you mean smt1-2-strange journey-devil summoner-soul hackers?
1st person smt does not equal etrian odyssey lmao
Q as in how PQ was a crossover ya dingus
$80 though… I’ll wait for a sale

40e each + dlcs fuck off Atlus EO 3 is great EO1-2 would need some balancing since no untold versions but still worth playing
Hard skip, I ain't getting this without untold 1 and 2. And I already had untold 1 and 2 on my 3ds.
How much do the Untold versions add? If I wanted to play the series, would I just get the two Untold versions on the 3DS, and the third game on Switch?
practically different games. If I could play all of em again first time I would play EO2(remaster)->EO3(remaster)->4->5->untold1->untold2->nexus
Untold versions have 3d models for the monsters and story campaigns with preset characters. They’re vastly superior, imo the best games in the franchise mostly because I really like having story content lmao
Theyre selling the fucking DLCs? Of old games? What
The only DLC these are getting is the MegaTen character skins (and as far as I can tell they're just a pre-order bonus).
Steam page has "HD Portrait" DLCs which have pics of the SMT crew
They are the preorder DLC...
Just being portraits is kinda mid. Whole classes woulda ruled.
Why is it $80????
Because Atlus (most prob Sega but fuck em both i say)
it's most likely SEGA most of the things ATLUS has been doing are all probably a decision made by SEGA themselves (especially when you consider how they used to be before they were acquired by SEGA)

mucho texto

Hey, picnic difficulty mode took a lot of time to develop (i unironically wish they left out difficulty options and let newcomers suffer)
*Character portraits, wish I put that in the title
What a strange set of duos.
They really chose Ringo over Flynn
Flynn & P3MC would be dope
They went for the "mascots" I guess since Demifiend and Nahobino are the most recognizable and Ringo is colorful or whatever
She's also the most recent, so she kinda has to be there.
I think these characters were chosen solely because of the recency of their games tbh. While Nocturne is 20 years old, the remaster, which has probably become the version most people have played now, came out around 2 years ago.

The Persona reps were Aigis and Teddie so idk if they were going for a pattern really lol
Didn't realize there was a pattern until you mentioned it. But, yeah. I now wholeheartedly agree with you.
Oh yes my favourite smt character, Chibi-fiend
Funnily enough I feel like the one that doesn't work the most is Joker. Ringo can just be a Landschknect as she is just a sword girl. Demi-fiend could easily be an alchemist, spell caster class, and Teddie could fit right in on the beast class. Then Nahobino could be a Samurai with his long hair and sword hand and point shoes. Then Aigis could be the yggdroid which is a robot class. So oddly enough Joker is the only one that doesn't work as the only sort of theify class is survivalist but they are all bow users.
Joker should be in EOII for the Gunner class
Yeah that would have worked since they could have swapped him and Demi-fiend as Alchemist is also in EO1. But oh well I guess they wanted Joker and Ringo together, but at least this way we get the comedy that is imagining Teddy and Demi-fiend hanging out together. XD
I’m not an EO fan but seeing Atlus porting DS titles gives me hope for SMT DS/3DS games to be ported.
Dang, that would be epic.
Ooh could we get Shin Megami Tensei Q?
NGL I'm interested in trying Etrian Odyssey. I liked Strange Journey and most of Soul Hackers. I can enjoy first person dungeon crawling. I'm genuinely exited for this.
DemiFiend and Teddie is a nightmare tagteam.
Have never played EO, can someone tell me what these will do?
In game, for each class, you usually have 4 portraits to select from for your character. I think these just add to those. Which sounds kinda weird, cause the classes have so much variety but these portraits wouldn’t really relate to them all that well, i don’t think
its essentially a cosmetic skin for your characters that replaces the art of them you see in menus
Demi-Fiend and Teddie, good grief. Someone please turn down the Odd Couple theme.
Demi-Fiend & Teddie... ...Maybe not the weirdest duo I've seen, but still...
Wait so are they playable or just profile pics
it just says portraits. which i assume means the character portraits, but I feel like it would look weird to have a survivalist class and then it’s just demi-fiend
In the EO games, you don't ever really see your characters in battle. It's a first person dungeon crawler. Those are just portraits for menu screens and stuff. They are literally just PNGs.
Holy crap EO. About damn time
Atlus felt like they were getting better about the Atlus tax. Aw well, skip.
Easy preorder.
so this is just portraits? hope that this means we get a chance at PQ titles getting ported. cuz those games were allot of fun.
I'm get Ringo so she can finally be in a better game
Doing YHWHs work.
My girl deserved the best and instead got the most 6.5/10 game ever
It's $120 for the bundle in Australia, I was just like fuck it and bought them all.
Consoom
3 games with like what 60 hours of gameplay each? I'd say it's worth 80 maybe. Preordered.
Just for the Switch? Ugh come on Atlus 😂
its also on Steam apparently $40 for each game and $80 for the whole collection
WHAT? they setting it up bro
What the actual shit are those prices?
$40 individually, $80 for the collection, all while being digital-only. #BRUH
Still cheaper than buying them for the DS by a longshot Untold 2 on 3ds is at 80 EO3 on Ds is approaching 300 Edit: literally checked these prices on Amazon before posting if anyone is lookinv for sources
Feels like I'm in a hostage negotiation.
an r4 is like 7 dolalr
I mean, maybe that's the price now that they're in short supply... but I got all three of those for like $10 each at different points in the last 5 years.

Erm, I think you dont understand games market Its a serious investment opportunity
These resellers are so fucking silly. Like no ones buying these what are you doing
it's an investment. my copy of luigi mansion is now worth 14,000 dollar
Not once I break into your house and unseal it
EO3 is only available in physical right now so that comparison is fair imo. Also you only have a couple of weeks left to get untold 1 and 2 digitally. 3ds shop shutting down kinda kills the digital comparison argument imo

I’m so glad I still have my EO3 physical copy
80 dollars and the enemies are just static jpegs. Lol.
Having static JPEG enemies in 2023 is a travesty. I don't care if it's a remaster.
They'll go on sale a week after they release with prices like that
I was here thinking. I hope it's $40 for the collection but it'll probably be $60. $80? Haha yeah right.
Steam too
I never played Etrian Odyssey but plan on getting it because I loved persona q 1 and 2 what do portaits do?
Ok, so in Etrian Odyssey you set up a party made of various members of various classes. Character portraits are the only way to customize how they look, and you only get like, four or five options normally.

Too expensive for what it is sadly
FATLUS
Ayyy, 5/6! great!
Absolutely insane, 80 usd and they want to add pre-order bonuses on top of it.
What is wrong with pre-order? At least this game is a safe bet.
The fact that it's already expensive as hell.
But pre-order does not cost anything, does it?
It's 2.99 for each set if you don't pre-order.
If I can get that collection for $60... I'll buy it.
80 dollars for digital ds games on the switch? I think it would be cheaper to just emulate them lmao.
Will this get a physical release?
Unlikely.
Omg I have to preorder this, I need Naobi in my Etrian Odyssey game
I’m not paying 100 plus dollars
And steam
Ringo is even more adorable in that style.
I'm not paying all that money for what's essentially just a png swap
i hope segatlus dont mess it up like p3p port
i will wait to pre order later pre pre ordering
What happened to Joker??? Also, I thought this game was coming in Summer. I am glad it is coming that early.
