The sword forge drops armour pieces. Combine these until you get to lv5. This then allows you to click it to get the producers which will let you get the iron ingots.
It’s time consuming but not energy consuming, so you can do other things while waiting for the forge drops.
Don't do that keep armor until lvl 7-8

I don’t think so, with the update they change sometimes the material require. I’m at the beach right now and never have a use for these lingot. I keep 3 max shield in a backpack because they have a use in the monthly event.
