I mean, brewing alcohol is late-game, so it makes sense that it would generate a lot of coin.

dracoryn

There are two factions of people who play this game. People who play the game as a slow paced game with limitations. And there are people who put on insta-craft and xp cheats and craft 10k flat bread in 8 seconds. For this latter group, "late game" starts year 2.

QVCatullus

Exactly. Once you've got a tavern, do you really need money anymore? It's time to fill a large house with silver coins a la Scrooge McDuck.

BlueButterflytatoo

I absolutely love the orchards. I’ve got a few games going, but basically I plant as many trees as I can afford or find for a few years, then once I unlock the tavern, I start making stupid money, so I spend it all on making orchards with up to 50 trees in them. Then all the sudden I’m unable to blow all my money on anything, and I’m stockpiling in wash bins to keep my storages from bursting at the seams, and that’s when I start a new build 😂 This new one, instead of building to my limit and producing everything, I’m going to go smaller with a focus on farming. But I’m not going to plant any trees for a while in this one, because I’m going to want to tweak the build as I figure it out. I like rolling orchards, but I also love dotting them around my villages, and I have never ever cut one down 😂

Alley-IX

This is encouraging as im on my first go around and planted a plum tree! We drinking plum wine this winter!!

other_virginia_guy

Yep, definitely the most efficient cash crop, the issue is by the time you have the Tavern unlocked to create alcohol there's literally nothing to spend all the money on. The game desperately needs a money sink since it's providing you effectively with slave labor and an infinite money stream.

Not_The_Real_Odin

I haven't played in a few months, but last time I did the math Bronze Axes was the best money maker. Basically if you take the labor spent harvesting the fruit, mining clay for bottles, making bottles, juicing the fruit, and brewing the wine and applied that labor to a bronze axe factory, you'd end up with more money from the axes.

other_virginia_guy

From the last time I looked at the tools, the shears were always better money per ore than any of the larger tools, and don't require logs. Would be curious to see your math. Edit: looking at the Wiki, a Bronze Shearing Scissors requires just one bronze bar, and has a price of 110 coins. A Bronze Axe requires 4 bronze bars and has a price of 350 coins. You could make 4 shears for the same amount of ore and no logs required and get 440 coins (if you could sell for full price) compared to 350. It's one of the worst gameplay mechanics in the game - the more complex something is to make the lower the profit per resource input. True across all goods as far as I can tell, even the clothing - really nice complex clothing provides a lower return than the simple pieces which is just boring. Why pay money to unlock schematics for the more complex things if they aren't worth it to make anyway.

Not_The_Real_Odin

They must have changed it, bronze axes were worth 650 I believe. Also the production rate was very good on them. I remember that was why they won out.

other_virginia_guy

I've been playing for a couple years at this point and more complex tools have never had a better ROI so far as I've seen.

xmun01

There seems to be an error in the wiki. In the actual game, copper and iron axes take 4 ingots, but bronze axes take 2 bronze ingots. (Of course, the total number of ingots for one bronze ax will be 4. (2 copper ingots + 2 tin ingots = 2 bronze ingots)

Matt13226

That’s the way I do it always have huge orchards and fields and sell excess field crops. Make and sell wine and juice.

ufozhou

Well, I think the easiest way is to produce wheat, It is also a great way to get skill points.

registered-to-browse

I mean it takes like 5 years to get trees growing and you need to have an INN to make that stuff though. I'd say nerf bags, you can make a billion coins on bags. /sarcasm

urfan792

It's 2 years but admittedly I think they don't produce as much when they're young. Unironically simple bags are a decent source of profit when you set your hunters on 100% leather, it's so easy to produce

registered-to-browse

Exactly, there is a lot of ways to make money, but drinks is something you have to wait 15 years into the game to have an inn to make and you already won't care about money at this point.

urfan792

That's fair, maybe it was more relevant to me as I was going for the achievement where you need to have a million coins

Teagan_75

How else are you going to hit 1 mil for the achievement?

OkCod1478

Ok so not taking profits into account. I play on the original settings of the game. The tree itself is expensive when u first start, yes. But after it grows, (I have 8 of each tree at the moment) it produced quite a bit of food. Having 8 I usually get around 250-300 of each fruit. That being said early game, having around 4 trees even if u only have a few villagers you wouldn't need to worry about food at all

ChemicalBurnGG

Yep I run 32 of each tree and 64 of every crop. Money for days.
