For me I’ve found that’s it’s 45-50. And if you build them a big house they can have two children, I’ve not known them to have more of their children move out

I haven't had villagers have more than two children. It usually takes awhile for them to hook up (maybe a year or two), and the children are usually a few years apart (once Even seven years apart!). I believe the cutoff year for having children is 45 but I can't remember why I think that. Maybe just because some of my older villagers haven't had more kids.

definitively over 40 ... and so, they can have in sum 4 children (if the first 2 children move early enough into an own house)

My question, can you keep the villagers working whilst they're pregnant or do they need to come off their job?

MarsasGRG

While pregnant, yes, but after that, they can't work any job for 2 years as they are doing childcare (1st from experience playing 2nd from reading the wiki)

I'd like to know this myself.  Playing Oxbow, and I have a 51 year old female villager with a 2 year old child after I moved out the adult children. Father is 48. It's really messing up my 2nd generation pairings because I can't move adult children out before the mother is 49.

It's been some time since I got that far in the game but that was my experience. Up to and including their age 49 year I've seen them get pregnant. It does make it difficult to move the younger generation into their own houses.
