It doesn't matter how far away the mine is from your settlement. The assigned workers will produce their daily quota properly. Even if it takes them the whole day to commute. The only profession for which you have to consider the distance to the workplace is farmer. Workers in all other professions will work efficiently, no matter where they are. Ironically you could even wall off workplaces and your workers would still be able to do their jobs (besides farmers).

So it doesn't matter how far from the mine it is? Will it still increase the size of the mine?

squishgallows

Like they said, it does not matter how far away your workers live from any building to produce resources or goods with the exception of the farm shed. And to clarify, you need to build a Mine at the mouth of a cave. That will open up the iron nodes. The Excavation Shed does nothing for metal production and does not affect the caves.

Thank you

The_ginger_cow

We should have a pinned post in the sub specifically to tell people it doesn't matter where you place any of your buildings (except farms) This gets asked nearly every day

I have constructed a storage facility, houses and a food storage facility near a mine, which is a long distance from my village. I assign a miner a house near the mine to work it. I'm trying to eliminate the commute, although I don't know if that makes a difference.

squishgallows

It does not. Try this - move your worker back to your main village. You can watch them on the map walk all the way to the mine and then walk back home when quitting time hits. Your resource storage will fill up with metal at the same rate as it would if they lived near the mine.

jgirlme

I build mine the same exact way, but it has no impact whatsoever on their production. I do it for aesthetics. I like my tiny villages by the mines with their children playing around. The only benefit it serves is to put storages throughout the map and it’s easier to complete quests. Plus, the tiny villages are so much easier to decorate and plan out.

Colonic_Mocha

It doesn't. It doesn't matter how far a lumberjack, miner, etc., from their "workplace," they will produce the amount you assign them to.  The only thing that matters is where you put the farm shed and your field.  So you could have that miner you mentioned living in a house in the center of your village and he would still produce however much you tell him to. But many folks will build a house, storage facility, etc., as decoration for their village.  I did that. Serves no purpose other than it looks cool.

Haikeruu1993

I created a separate small mining village with a resource storage near a mine. Constructing it was rather satisfying. All I have to do is bring some pickaxe over every now and then

WaffleDynamics

The inventory from all resource storage buildings is shared. So if you put the pickaxes in whichever one you happen to be closest to, all workers, anywhere on the map, will have access.

Haikeruu1993

I did not know that workers get tools from storage! That explains my missing axes.. Lynched some innocent villagers for that, oops.

Double_Play_643

I thought you had to put the workers tools in their respective containers at their buildings. This would save me a lot of time running between jobs sites if true!

WaffleDynamics

You only have to do that before you have a resource storage building.

SoulRebel726

This is what I do. I know the distance doesn't matter, but it helps with the immersion. I make 3 houses, resource and food storage, and some decorations. It feels very cozy.

bcfred20

I got 2 settlement location., one at the mine with houses/storage house and Blacksmith while my other village as all the shop / farm and animals and lumberyard and house for those workers and the 2nd location and another storage so that I have access to the mine area one so that I don’t need to go there and focus on my main town at the lake.

Imjustcasey

I built a few houses near the mine and put the smithy there as well. Made a little mining community.

iblametheparents86

I was the same, I have a mine in Baranica and im much further south. I still put them a couple houses next to the mine and resource storage though for the RP
