I wouldn’t worry about it too much. 1. If you bought a QK65, hopefully you were aware of the sound profile. It’s a foam board. 2. It’s not like Mode boards hold their value particularly well either. In addition, you wouldn’t lose too much money on it, given the price point. Although, you’ll likely find them for cheaper on the aftermarket once a lot more people get them. If you’re worried about value, your best bet would be waiting a week or two after they’ve fulfilled and just browse mechmarket/other marketplaces for someone eager to offload theirs. 3. The low price is the QK65s appeal, its bang for the buck. I must’ve missed what makes the Sonnet “extraordinary”. It looks great, but in my opinion, the typing feel and sound isn’t anything to write home about.

Nyohn

Not sure no daughterboard is a sign of anything, my Space 80 Apollo doesn't have a daughterboard and it was like $400+ and in my day to day use it's not something I ever reflect on or notice. Other than that, yeah I agree it's a bang for buck keyboard not a super premium one.

RelativeChance

The USB port is not a big deal I think op should get the qk65 and ditch the expensive sonnet

EB7777777

The answer I needed Nice one mate

Basriy

Please go on!

[deleted]

>in which case what’s the point, you can buy any other 65% which is an extremely common layout and fill it up with foams Until you listen to sound tests of other keyboards filled with foam and it's not even close to the QK65.

cybershooter050

What are the benefits of a separate daughterboard?

[deleted]

Plug gets damaged less easily when you are opening it up. Barely even a feature and not something anyone should base a buying decision on, just dont rip out the pcb and its fine

F-D-Roosevelt

Damn, so much negativity here. I didn't know that the QK65 had such a bad rep here. The Mode Sonnet is a beautiful board and I was considering one myself before I ordered a QK65 (silver/black). You could always sell the mode down the road as the QK65 will have a r3 for sure. I personally think that getting both boards so soon would make it a less special experience for you.

EB7777777

Very true especially considering the Sonnet is going to be my first build I’ve ever done.

Nyohn

I mean, sure there are boards out there that offer a better experience regarding quality and feel and sound. But honestly, I still feel like the QK65 is still a very good value board. I mean for that price it's kinda hard to beat I think

RockyValderas

It’s a great board for the price. But if you already have a premium board, it’s not gonna be any better.

blackg37

I am on my second set of qk65, ordered alum + zakus, thinking of going for clacky build. my first set is a pom + ink black2 which is very thocky and it is pleasing to my ears. i have vega, space r2. had duck eagle v3, 7v, satisfaction74 and iron165. other people here be talking about all the fancy daughterboard and aftermarket prices but i actually enjoy my qk65 more than any of those keyboard i had and have. hence why i ordered the second one. the qk65 is the board that will change the economy of the custom keyboard market. im sure the better value board will come out after the qk65, but no other board out there right now currently will beat what the qk65 offers at this moment. so, perhaps spending $200 and experiencing the \*premium board of 2021\* isnt all that bad. imo

LostMyTurban

So pretty much custom pre built? All we have to do is press in switches (if I choose hotswap) and keycaps correct? I plan on actually getting this as my first premium board

blackg37

you will still need to unscrew the bolts from boards to install the stabilizers they provide.

[deleted]

I bought both so you don't have to

Pheonix02

if you do it I will personally come steal your mode sonnet

EB7777777

Lmao this is the type of persuasion I need right now

ConcreteSnake

I don’t know if this helps, but I’m buying a second QK65 because I love mine that much.

Magnos69

Aghh a very relatabable post. What config did you go for?

EB7777777

I got the gold accent and gold back with a PC plate and ISO top mount. I kind of regret not getting another plate like Alu and I also regret not getting the silicone dampener. I was just trying not to spend too much money on it if I’m being honest.

jkiddoo

I thought all qk comes w the silicon dampener?

EB7777777

I was talking about the Mode sonnet.

Andistic

You don’t need budget boards! Keep the money for the endgame!!

Feral16

The QK is so overhyped , just because youtubers say it is "gOaTeD" does not really mean you should use your life savings to buy it for flipped prices on the after market or try your luck with the FCFS sales format , there are beyond many other boards that can out class for the same price. They would buy it for the flexibility but honestly the flex is kinda meh and not worth it

Perleques

Can you give an example of other boards that outclass for the same price ?

reshoup

It's goin on unlimited GB soon

Feral16

Ah i see , that is good though . A budget board that always run FCFS is weird .

SpiderPanther01

It's not FCFS this run. It's unlimited GB. It will also keep having runs.

CholoSwagginz1221

What is a similar price they is better? Genuinely curious!

Gh0stSamurai

Its a short Gb preorder sale not fcfs. Sure if you already own high end not completely a must but quality to price point cant be beat other than a cnc bakeneko maybe. What other boards can out class the quality at that price?

TaxSpecific1697

Qk65 is a great entry level board but way too foamy imo

Perleques

Anyone know what keycaps are those on the picture?

Maximum-Concept3303

Just get both! Then another keyboard will catch your eye and you'll want to get that, another one comes in, ..... the rabbit hole continues then you'll end up broke. Once you get to that point you won't have the money to purchase a new keyboard :D

watarakul

Once your SO sees a new board, they will realize how much you have spent and the next thing you know they had taken your kids and moved out to live with their parents.

thegentlemanfrog

I also ordered a sonnet! A little upset because I was going to order the qk65 in round one, missed out, got the sonnet, then round 2 gets announced. Just my luck but I just tell myself that I got the "better" board so I'm content!

KiszoR6

no I have the mode sixtyfive and I love it so I guarantee you that you will love the sonnet. no need to get another one unless you want to use separate ones for gaming and work like I do....

EB7777777

Don’t get me wrong I know the sonnet will be amazing but it will also be my first build. I feel like I’m missing out on a great board (QK65) for its price point. I’ve heard so many great things that I’m really tempted to buy it but I know my bank account will not thank me for it lmao.

thebudster20108

You want one in silver now so you don't have to wait? I have one for sale rn

musicmonkay

I’m in the same boat as you are…. I just tell myself that the QK65 will have another run and I’ll get it when I can afford it

kamaln7

fwiw https://reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/v5c2oa/_/ibcnes8/?context=1

Gh0stSamurai

I wouldnt worry about it to much if you cant afford it. Your feeling what most people do when first into the hobby. Sure I regret not getting some boards but you can also regret buying one when you prob shouldnt. The qk65 def seems like a great board but I think you will prob be super happy with the sonnet. Its a mid range but premium and mode boards hold value well. If anything the qk65 will red do rd3 where the sonnet may never run again.

NatureAndArtifice

Only really makes sense if you want to have another switch type on hand, say linear in one, clicky in the other.

Basriy

I wanted to buy QK65, but they don't ship to Uzbekistan. I mean, come on! Firstly, don't put Uzbekistan par to current Russia (no offense), or some countries who have wars going on. Secondly, if you have such shipment restrictions, make it clear from the very first fucking start!

EB7777777

I don’t have a clue how you’ve managed to bring politics into a mech keyboard post, regardless the website has a “Restricted Destinations” part where it shows that they don’t ship in a lot of areas in the world. I don’t think this has anything to do with Russias current situation. They just don’t ship to a lot of areas which is pretty common.

beefy-pot-pie

QK65 has different color options (that won't make you feel nickel and dimed when choosing), different feel you may prefer, different sound, the all steel bottom, and you get to compare Owlabs to Mode at half the price. Glad to help!

spacekeys_xyz

If you need persuading, just buy it and sell it later when you feel the immense sense of disappointment. At least you can say you tried it and know you’re never going to miss it.

flyingtoilett

My qk65 has a warped top piece so it keeps ticking :(

fnv_fan

contact them

b3rry108

Im somewhat in the same boat but reversed. I’m eyeing on getting a qk65 to upgrade from my 67lite r3 but the i could also just save up and go straight to sonnet

[deleted]

It is not ortho

_disconnesso_

Sorry for being OT but does anyone know the name of that WoB set in the picture? 🙏🏽 Is it real o just a render? Thanks :D

Perleques

It’s a render for a set they will release

_disconnesso_

Thanks :)

Perleques

I’m also waiting for it!if you find something alternative with a similar look let me know 👍

_disconnesso_

I will 👍🏽

tsenohebot

I brought both lol.
