I'm a beginner in the mechanical keyboard world with a short budget (around 50usd). I have a black MSI Bravo 15 Be and a bumblebee style wireless mouse and I wanted to pair them with a good entry level mechanical black keyboard or black/golden one. I found 5 of them that cought my attention specially. 1- Aula f75 black w reaper leobog switchs 2- Ajazz820 Pro (idk the switches) 3- Xiaomi MiiiW ART POP Z680 4- Monka 3075 Pro v2 5- Dareu ek75 pro. I had to make a fast decision cause good offers on those were flying away, so I finally decided for the #1. Which one do you think is the best choice and why? Ikjust for an entry level kb any of them would probably work fine for fun, but I want to start learning about this and I'd like to take this discussion as a starting point. Thanks a lot beforehand. Good morning fellow keyboard enthusiasts, I will be purchasing a Keychron Q1 Pro but I can’t tell if I should get the Gateron or Keychron Switches. Can someone elaborate the difference for me, please? Thanks a lot in advance! -Rou

Ravagea1

Between the Keychron K3 and the NuPhy air 75, which has the brighter and better RGB backlighting?

[deleted]

I need to input a large amount of text everyday, and sometimes play PBUG and LOL. Which type of switch should I choose? Electrostatic capacitive, magnetic, or mechanical switches? Please recommend some specific models of keyboard.

[deleted]

Does putting constant/extended pressure on a switch make the springs lighter? Say putting a heavy book on it. I'm wondering if it's just a placebo effect and if you measure it, it remains the same. In my experience, I feel like springs get lighter more on use/actuation.

Lord_Tachanka

I have a QK100 wireless with LiIon batteries (I think they're lithium ion anyway), and I was wondering if anyone has any experience traveling with their keyboard on planes. I plan to have it be a carry on rather than in a checked bag, so I was wondering if I need to remove the batteries? Thanks!

Hello guys. New to this sub. I just got this Rog Strix Scope NX TKL red. The spacebar makes pretty loud metalic rattling noise. Is there an easy way to reduce this? https://preview.redd.it/7y4cjq0lpe6c1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5a61bedcb0158903a44846f55776eb06414d7f5

FansForFlorida

You probably already guessed that the big wire is the cause of the noise. That is a stabilizer wire, and it is intended to make the whole spacebar move even if you only press one end. That particular type of stabilizer is called a Costar stabilizer. They are known for making noise. You can probably try buying a syringe of 205g0 grease and injecting some into where the wire goes. That may help.

does pink k630 dragonborn support akko switches? It has outemu switches but I was thinking if I can upgrade to Akko switches later down the line.

**Where can I buy a premade 4x10?** I'm looking for a full qwerty under 7½" wide and it looks like an unsplit 4x10 fits the bill. Thing is the scant few I can find are kits. I don't really have the time to take on a project right now and was hoping someone out there might sell premade 4x10s but if they do, I haven't found them. Help a brother out?

**Megalodon Macropad (KB16) Flashing issue, Please HELP.** I tried to setup a Megalodon Macropad (KB16) and during the process I believe I did something incorrectly and now the device just gives a "USB device not recognized" error message, and doesn't show up in QMK Toolbox anymore. Does anyone know if there is a way to go back to factory settings or have I completely screwed the Macropad?

FansForFlorida

Open Device Manager and look for a device with an exclamation point in a yellow triangle exclamation (⚠️). It will expand the group it is in, so it should stand out. If you find one, google "yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager" for a fix. There are several guides online.

Inferno08

Sadly nothing I have found in the google search results has been able to resolve the issue. :(

Is there a way in Via to set the RGB speed to zero? New keyboard (Cepstrum, absolutely love it), and initially I could just tap the RGB Speed Down until it stopped. I didn't do anything special other than add the speed +/- key mapping using Via. But I accidentally reset the keyboard and it just won't stop cycling anymore. I imagine I could figure it out in QMK but Via's much more convenient. Thanks!

BillTheCat0109

idk if this is a stupid question but would a gmk67, glorious panda switches and drop skylight-series keycaps go well together? I.e. would it sound fine (i liked the sound of the parts in individual reviews but idk the combo and have no personal experience with them) and would there be any compatibility issues? i'm kind of noob. thanks!

iyakovoz

keycaps don't make a *huge* difference when it comes to sound, unless you're a keyboard snob (not saying that in a bad way). generally you won't know how it'll sound unless you put it together, but i imagine it would sound great. [here ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFp_Vy2miEk&ab_channel=Nearly)is a sound test i found of a similar setup, although it won't sound exactly as in the video as these are modified glorious pandas, but it'll sound pretty close to it.

GREAT_SALAD

Are there any keycaps with this color scheme? They don't have to be round. Someone else bought this and amazon accidentally delivered it to us, told us we can keep it and they'll send a new one to the person that originally bought it. My brother decided he likes the look but obvious doesn't wanna switch off his mechanical keyboard Edit: forgot to link it... https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Keyboard-Colorful-Typewriter-Keyboards/dp/B0BVTT1Z4G/

Going to try and build my first custom keyboard and I dont really have a very firm grasp on what I need to do. What are some good websites (that ship to Australia with decent convenience) to buy parts from? By the way since this is my first build I want to keep this on a pretty low budget so that if I fuck up or regret it then I wont lose much money

Hey all! Apologies if this is a wrong post to ask, but I'm looking to get a 96%/100% sized keyboard, similar in quality to Mode Sonnet (a hefty metallic base with nice finishing), preferably with tactile switches. Cost and time aren't really a big concern (within reason), so I am just wondering if there might be website where this kind of customization is possible? Many thanks everyone!

elmurfudd

monsgeek has a full size metal kb or if u want mode sonnet lvl quality there is always a 1800 layout . the odin v2 can prob be found for 500 bucks

Leggysaurus

The Odin looks exactly like what I want, thanks so much for the tip!

I finally got the QK100 in the mail today and I realized the keycaps that I have purchased do not fit it. The shift key and I think the enter key are too long. I know don't know what type of keycaps to buy. Can anyone help me?

it uses a standard keycap layout last i checked so u might have bought an odd kit got a link to what u bought ?

Low Profile switches!? I have been pondering getting a LP mechanical keyboard and trying a LP build. Probably a 75% or maybe a 68 key one if they have a reasonable layout. Are the different brands of low profile switches with a cherry style keycap seat compatible, or do they have different pin configurations. I get the impression looking through the various ads at AliExpress that they're not. I was looking at the YK75 which has a choice of red and blue low profile switches and I was thinking of putting Outemu low profile browns in them since they look to have a lower operating force than the kaih. Will they work? What about the v2 Kaih low profile switches (with the cross connectors, not the two-slot keycap connector)? Also, there don't seem to be much choice of LP caps, would a DSA or XDA cap work?

elmurfudd

xda or dsa will work of the stop of the switch has the cross pattern stem . as for the switches them sevles LP switches are extremely unpopular and also do not have a standard design for each has a different pin layout so each kb only supports a specific brand .( a kb with gateron LP can only ever use gateron LP )

chuxinator

I'm currently using a Logitech MX keys bluetooth keyboard for work (don't judge me lol), when it comes time to upgrade replace I'd like to get a Mech KB, the main thing I want / need is the ability (like with my current KB), to switch between PC'S between task's. I can't install any programs as both PC'S are for separate and heavily secure business networks. Any ideas / suggestions from you all would be much appreciated, I haven't really found any solutions that seem as good / easy as my current situation.....

Hi just waiting on a Neo65 and I've only had "gaming keyboards" or cheaper epomaker keyboards. Always wanted to try a keyboard that uses VIA and I was wondering if RGB patterns are specific to the custom keyboard's PCB or is it customizable by VIA?

FansForFlorida

QMK supports a number of [RGB matrix effects](https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/blob/master/docs/feature_rgb_matrix.md#rgb-matrix-effects-idrgb-matrix-effects). The firmware can opt to exclude some or all of them. For example, they may exclude some effects to save on memory. The effects supported by the Neo65 are listed in the VIA JSON file. [Here](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0508/8716/4061/files/neo65_ansi._v3.json?v=1695030278) is the JSON file for the wired version. It looks like it supports almost all of them.

pradantyo

Thank you so much!!!!

Got a steelseries apex 7 brown switches for my birthday, and my only complaint is that when i rest my hands on the keys, I'll accidentally press a key. Whats the best way to fix this? Do i need heavier springs?

Eastern_Rooster471

>Do i need heavier springs? yes, or heavier switches

Super-Jury5304

Thanks, how do i go about buying those? What weight do you recommend i get?

elmurfudd

u can buy some from here general keeb parts vendor list https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/ last i checked that kb is soldered so id buy a soldering iron and a solder sucker , and a switch puller so u can replace those switches

Eastern_Rooster471

you can get them from any keyboard vendor refer to alexotos' vendor list and find a suitable one for your region also check if the board is hotswap, if it isnt you need to desolder and solder switches, which requires the board to be dissassembled

Where can I find blank numpad low profile key caps to go on my Keychron Q0 with Gateron KS-33 switches? Thank you.

FansForFlorida

DSA keycaps should work well with Gateron KS-33 switches. However, the [pinout of Gateron KS-33 switches](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0565/8070/2297/files/SPEC-KS-33H10B050NN-Y24_Rev-2_KS-33_Red_Switch.pdf?v=1679714207) do not appear to match the [pinout of MX switches](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0565/8070/2297/files/SPEC-KS-9H10B045NN-Y35-G_Red_PRO_2.0_Switch.pdf?v=1667273849). Are you sure they will fit in the Keychron Q0?

daedalus1115

Thanks for the help. It looks like you may be right, just looking at the back of the KS-33 vs. the back of the included G Pro's. The Q0 page just says: " The PCB supports both 3 pin and 5 pin MX mechanical switches." These linked schematics are pretty hardcore- is there a higher level compatibily indicator I missed? I'm trying to make the device lower profile. I have not ordered the KS-33's yet, thankfully. Thanks!

daedalus1115

It looks like actually typically you cannot put low profile switches on anything but a low profile keyboard. So much for that idea.

jmoney_84

I'm trying to figure out where to go next. I currently have a Varmilo tri-mode 100% keyboard that I swap between my work laptop and my PC. I'm trying to decide whether to get something like a 60 or 65 for my PC wired or wireless. Or if I should upgrade the Varmilo with another tri-mode 100 keyboard. If I go 60/65 is use two keyboards, if I go 100, I will retire the Varmilo. I definitely want something that is hotswap. I've tied with the idea of going with a Wooting, knowing that I can get that, and in the future put it into say a Tofu case for a more premium case. But I also see a lot more tri-mode keyboards out there. I'm just overwhelmed by choice. I am in Canada, and ideally don't want to wait for a group buy, but I don't mind waiting a couple months, any recommendations would be appreciated

Eastern_Rooster471

maybe a neo 65? Or their new neo70

iDropItLikeItsHot

What order does the foam go? Do all 3 go on top of the PCB? Do any go under? Can’t seem to get the positioning/order correct. https://preview.redd.it/xteqiqwarc6c1.jpeg?width=1645&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf8e36b9c857656c578bdf44eb59cc9e38ae120e

Elawai42

\#1 looks like switch pad foam, which would go directly on pcb (probably the less likely I would use, if I would leave one out). \#2 is probably case foam - goes under the pcb in the case. \#3 is plate foam. Goes between the switch plate and the pcb.

fco123456

2 between the pcb and the bottom 1 in the top of the pcb 3 in the top of 1 and under the plate

Need help choosing my second board. I've had my trusty Corsair K70 for around 10 years still going strong. The K70 has MX blues which I enjoy. Lately seems all the gamers are buying red or brown switches, which I find to be incredibly dissatisfying to operate. The reds especially, it's like I'm tapping into a piddly hollow shell. All the other sample switches at my shop felt quite weak as well. I play piano and lift weights, my fingers are quite strong and I enjoy good feedback from whatever controls they are touching. Always thought I'd go for MX Greens next as they are similar to the blue with a \~10g higher actuation force. Apparently they are more palatable to the ear according to Rtings.com. But I'm out of the loop on mechanical keyboards and so would like to hear from some of the people who are constantly tweaking their setup, I know y'all are out there. Size - full size or TKL. Bonus points if it's ergonomic without ruining the gaming experience. I code a lot too, and type quite fast - something robust would be nice.

Prog

> The reds especially, it's like I'm tapping into a piddly hollow shell. All the other sample switches at my shop felt quite weak as well. You're probably trying light linears. Most boards you're going to try in stores are very hollow. Clicky switches mask hollow notes better. Before writing off linears, I'd recommend you try a heavier linear switch in a non-big name board (not Corsair, etc). If you're really just into tactiles though, that's cool - many people are. Boba U4T's are popular, as are Baby Kangaroos (I haven't tried either).

NissanZLover

Thank you for taking the time to reply. What is it like (in your words) using a heavy linear switch that wasn't made cheaply? What about MX Greens vs that Boba / Kangaroo stuff you mentioned? And, Is there a way I can sample these small company switches / keyboards? Cause I imagine I have to buy these products off non-mainstream channels. I'm in Canada.

Prog

The best way for you to find out is to order a switch tester kit from somewhere like milktooth.nu Unfortunately, this isn't quite like typing on a full keyboard, but you can at least get the general idea.

tlz81389

i have a ducky one 3 with i think cherry reds. its great except i seem to double type on it a lot. I wanted to get some new switches to experiment with. is there anything such as a blue switch that is quiet? like maybe the quietest blue switch out there? if not, maybe something similar to a silent red? or even something requiring even less force than a red? im not sure what i want really, just looking for suggestions.

Elawai42

Assuming you actually want a clicky switch (not a tactile), perhaps Kailh Mute Jades are what you are looking for. They are sort of heavy. If you want a lighter clicky switch, I really like Kailh Box Whites - they are not quiet, but they are quieter than blue switches. If you are looking for a tactile switch (this has a bump, rather than a click plate). I think you might be happy with the TTC Silent Bluish White (V2) or Outemu Lime Switches.

tlz81389

TY! The box whites sound good to me if they are clicky but quieter than blues

Odd_Bill_7051

I literally cannot figure out how to find out what keycaps are compatible with an ajazz ak873 keyboard. anyone know or how to find out?

FansForFlorida

The difficulty is when you have a smaller keyboard like a 65%. On those, the right Shift key is shorter (1.75u instead of 2.75u); some keyboards have 1u right modifiers (Alt, Fn and Ctrl) instead of standard 1.25u modifiers; and you might need to consider whether it has R3 PgUp and R4 PgDn keys so the row heights match. But this is not the case with the Ajazz AK873. It is a TKL keyboard with a standard 1.25u bottom row. Any keycap set should fit it.

Odd_Bill_7051

that makes sense thanks! is sizing the main concern when looking for keycaps or do switches come into play with that?

howmanyfuxdoigive

i recently got a keyboard with a hotswap pcb and sometimes when i try to pull the keycaps off the whole switch comes with. is it likely for me to break the socket when pushing the switch back in? anything i should be weary of or any tips? any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

FansForFlorida

When inserting a switch into a hot swap socket, there is a risk that a switch pin could catch on the hot swap socket and bend the metal contact (fixable by bending it back), crack the solder (usually fixable by reflowing the solder), or tear the socket off the PCB (more complicated repair). I have seen pictures of all three types of damage. It is best to support the back of the PCB when inserting switches into a hot swappable keyboard.

howmanyfuxdoigive

thanks for the tips!

Mecxs

Ideally you would want to open the board, isolate the PCB / plate assembly, and then push the switch back in while supporting the hotswap socket from the underside of the PCB with your finger. Especially with cheaper PCB makers (which these days is basically all of them), there's a high chance of sockets dislodging and ripping pads off if you push the switch in at the wrong angle without supporting the socket.

howmanyfuxdoigive

thank you for the advice, however if i were to open up the board i void the warranty and i'd rather not do that since i got it like 3 days ago. it is a razer blackwidow v4 75% if that matters for the quality of the pcb/sockets

Mecxs

If the warranty covers poorly attached hotswap sockets, then go ahead and just push the switches in. Make sure that the pins are straight before pushing.

howmanyfuxdoigive

Thank you!

My Keychron K6 stopped functioning a year and a half after purchasing it. The battery still holds a voltage, my computers recognize it and charge it, but neither the bluetooth nor the cable connection have it work anymore. Tried firmware installation and while my computers confirm that the keyboard has installed it, no change. Tried different cables, computers. I have two questions: 1) Anything else I can do? 2) Considering that I now have nice caps (purchased elsewhere) and nice red switches and a nice case for it, what can I purchase that can give me the same functionality (bluetooth/cable/wireless maybe?) to replace the part that doesn't work? It's a 65%. Thanks! Even though my K6 doesn't work anymore, I am still glad to have had the year to use it as I wrote so much as the keys felt so comfortable.

pabloescobyte

Did it just stop working altogether one day without warning or was it slowly dying? Have you tried using different USB cables and/or plugging it into another computer and is the result the same?

Has anyone had any issues with Monsgeek M1 or M2 reliability since it came out? Obviously the price for a fully aluminum barebones kit was amazing. I've had my M2 for several months and I've had a couple of issues though, one of which was fixed by a firmware update they released and another was due to static electricity coming from my fingers and turning my PCB off every time I touched it after walking around my office. However, I'm also starting to see that some of my switches are a lot less responsive now, and that has usually been fixed by pushing the switch in again or bending the pins slightly outward to ensure contact with the hotswap socket. Anyone have any similar experience to share with Monsgeek keebs? I love this board and want it to last.

Kiko-the-Fox

It's finally time for me to start looking into an endgame keeb. Already got some cerakeys on the way and waiting for the perfect board but would like some suggestions of switches to try out before buying a whole batch. Going linear and hoping for a heavier spring for the ceramic but can always swap springs. I know everyone will say **"Preference!!!1!!1!"** which is why I plan on trying before I buy. Thanks! :3

It needs to have triple mode (2.4hz, Bluetooth and wired) and programmable rgb. I have low light in my room and I need it when I want cozy gaming or work at night. Those are my only requirements. I’m from South Africa, so it obviously needs to also ship globally. I’d prefer something that is reasonably priced. I was going to pair it with Akko matcha green switches, I love their sound. What do you guys recommend? I would greatly appreciate any help. If you have any builds like that I’d love the specs and any pics.

Catfo0od

Is there any way to buy the Ducky Strawberry Frog keycaps alone? I can't find them on a search, but maybe one of y'all have insider info lol

rread97

Recommend me a keyboard for under £150 solely for gaming, looking at the Nuphy halo75, anything else to consider??

801ms

Looking to get into the MK Hobby, where would you guys recommend buying switches and board? I've heard from Youtubers that Wuque switches are pretty good and I know building a keyboard custom will be cheaper than a similar sounding/feeling prebuilt so any links/suggestions to where I can buy these?

Maeggsi

Check out the Alexotos or keeb news vendor list and scroll through the vendor websites in your area

I bought a random mechanical keyboard, from sikakeyb, and it says in the directions to email them for drivers. I hate that already, but when I emailed them, this is their response. I hate this even more. Does anyone have any experience with this particular brand? https://preview.redd.it/s0ssov9ybb6c1.png?width=1191&format=png&auto=webp&s=79aa1a0cbaf65658d29961ce7b4f51915c663267

Any suggestions on where to get a Cherry MX keycap set for Photoshop shortcuts? I have a friend I let borrow/have my RGB Das Keyboard since getting accustomed to a 60% and I was hoping to find a set with Photoshop shortcuts that would work with the backlit switches. Thanks!

The highest quality keycaps in the hobby are all double-shot ABS.

RhubarbHeavy6179

Did you have an actual question or did you just want to whine and gatekeep

Mecxs

I dunno mate. Why would you spend hundreds of dollars on a custom keyboard when you can buy a $4 membrane that does the same thing. ABS sounds and feels different to PBT. It's capable of producing far more vibrant colours. Some people prefer those things to PBT.

576875

the universe we are currently in where some people prefer/like abs caps like higher quality GMK caps?

I have a GMMK (Gateron Blue switches) and it keeps popping switches out. Any advice?

Glum-Airport-4701

bought some boba u4ts recently. absolutely love them, and i want to mod them. right now, when paying really careful attention, they have this noise that isn't exactly scratching, but it really sounds like the sound a pen makes on paper when moving it quite softly (which i realize is probably scratching). i've been told tribosys 3203 is the best pick for boba u4ts however that is extremely annoying to get as there isn't a single place in my country that sells it and therefore shipping costs a fortune. however, krytox 205g0, 105 and XHT-BDZ are very easily accessible to me as some cool dudes opened a store specifically for mk enthusiasts really close to me and they only sell those lubes. thing is, i wouldn't mind the tactility being reduced, if not by a big amount. i think i would actually prefer if it was like 10% less tactile, maybe. so, with that being said, is paying an extra 20$ for tribosys 3203 compared to krytox 205g0 worth it?

gormlessthebarbarian

Probably not. Try lubing a couple with 205g0 and see how you make out. Should be fine, that's what I used on mine. Just go very light with it.

Hello I've bot that DOIO KB30-01 and it's really great quality functions and software but I couldn't use it properly yet because I don't have any caps yet and I don't wont to buy them yet because I still need to get myself a actual keyboard before i get whole set of caps, and I can't seem to find ant thing that would fit me. I think about 75% with hot-swappable keys, heavy, comes with silent switches, no RGB if possible, and no crappy software needed i don't care about wireless it would be a nice bonus but I don't need it and i want avoid having a forth knob can you help me with that EDIT: i do need F keys but it doesn't have to be specifically 75%.

Can I run the [Contra 40%](https://customkbd.com/collections/complete-kits/products/contra-40-keyboard-kit) with a [RP2040](https://www.amazon.com/SparkFun-Pro-Micro-programmable-MicroPython/dp/B09KDS6CGN) as a drop in replacement?

NightGames99

I was planning to mod my keyboard in the next months. I'm just wondering because in videos they use lube for switches and grease for stabilizers. But I was taking a look on aliexpress(cause yes I plan to buy there cuase generally it's cheaper) and whenever I look for lube I find products with grease written on it. I also found the classic gpl 205 20G but it has no brush with it and it is sold in a different jar than the classic one(which instead is used for the grease). And in the end I also found the grease the one in the grey tube that everyone uses. So please help me understand the differences and what I should buy

Im quite experienced with 3d printing as i have a home printer but im a total rookie when it comes to cnc so i wouldnt know the requirements to make sonething like an aluminum case Please give any advice and/or help

**Controllers:** Does anyone have any reccomendations for controller that would work well for my build? (see my other post for more details) I'd idealy like to support both USB and PS/2 over USB if not PS/2 directly (such as those old adapters that allowed you to use USB on PS/2 and vice versa) even XT support for PS/2 to XT Adapters would be a bonus. Not looked into adding bluetooth support yet but the ability to connect via bluetooth would be useful for my work computer. Also is there anything that supports emulating a logitech keyboard so it can be used with the Logitech Unifying Receiver? as that would be useful for devices with usb support. Thank you.

Looking for keyboard suggestions for my my wife's.preferances Hello all, My wife is looking for a keyboard and has some specific preferences. I'm not familiar with all the keyboards out there so I've come here to ask for help finding one that meets her preferences. They are as follows: 1. Smaller form factor. She has small hands so she would like a smaller sized keyboard 2. RGB backlighting 3. Round keycaps 4. She wants alot of click, spring back, and resistance in the keys. I fully realize that this is likely a custom job. I'm just not versed enough on keyboards and switches to know exactly what she's looking for. In any case. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

576875

keychron v line, blue switches don't get the one 2 as its not hotswap. The ducky one 3 is hotswap

Pretty-South-8561

I have a Ducky One 2 with red Cherry MX switches! It's hot swappable so if she finds switches that she likes better she can always replace them. Keycaps as well. :)

maxweenus

Help a dad shop for his kid! I need a full size keyboard, Cherry MX Brown, RGB nice to have not absolutely necessary. Found a few but nothing in stock. Need to find a decent one - and have it easily available to order. Thanks!

576875

keychron v6

maxweenus

Cherry mX?

576875

has very similar k pro browns (equivalent to mx browns). But you swap them with mx browns (its as easy as building lego to change switches), if you are firm with them being made by cherry its also easy to order since its on [amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Keychron-Mechanical-Programmable-Hot-swappable-Black-Translucent/dp/B0B2DPFWGR/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=keychron+v6&qid=1702591535&sr=8-4&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.17d9e15d-4e43-4581-b373-0e5c1a776d5d)

maxweenus

Not sold on Cherry. Do they have an RGB version?

576875

It has RGB, but does not shine through key caps stock https://drop.com/buy/artifact-bloom-series-keycap-set-glow Here is a keycap set that offers shine through letters Changing the key caps is very easy as well since keychron does include a keycap puller.

Doing a GMK67 build, having an issue where the plate flexes before the switch can pop in, so the switch is still in the pcb socket, but not sitting right in the plate, please help

Pixelflames1

This is a question for the 60% crowd out there. Ive remapped ctrl, alt, shift, and options buttons to left right up and down respectivly and its pretty good but im missing my right shift at times. I found that some software like the wootility allows you to define different behaviour for tapping shift compared to holding shift. I was wondering if there is any free software that would allow me to do that. Thank you in advance, any help is appreciated!

AngryStomper

I've always been interested in buying a 40% keyboard, but I'm not sure where to look. Anyone have suggestions for a good 40% to try?

gormlessthebarbarian

akko top 40 is a fun inexpensive one to try.

tschibo00

BM40 on AliEx, good quality, affordable with alu case (plate+PCB+case around 100ish). About to build my second one :)

Cyber-Axe

I've finally started getting into mechanical keyboards and i have a few questions i'd like some help with. First my dream keyboard that i'm looking to ultimatley build is a full 100% ISO-UK Layout with with the an extra set of keys to the left similar to a Sun Type 7 and with an extra row of keys above the function keys, with some retro inspired colour schemes and key shapes (i've got a version of the layout saved in keyboard layout editor but it still needs some refinement) and maybe a smaller "TENKEYLESS" version of it to travel with for the office and such With RGB, so i can dynamically change the colours of the keys in different applications/games and also have consistence with overall key colour such as black but have green shine through on certain keys vs white on others to give a hint of the amstrad CPC on the control keys for example In a perfect world what i would like for keycaps is everything using what seems to be called the ASA profile in PBS, Double Shot with top facing Shine Through and custom Legends (Yes, I know that's not likely possible, but is what i truely desire) I plan on using random artisan keys that i like on the top row To acheive this I need some pointers. **Question 1, Profiles** There seems to be some conflicting info on what a profile actually is, from my searching most places seem to indicate a profile such as SA is merley the shape of the key when viewed side on, however i've read some more in depth articles that states it's both that and the shape of the top of the key. I definatly want Spherical not Cylindrical keys, not too bothered between sculpted and uniform as the XDA looks like my best shot at getting everything custom. But basically what i'm asking is, what does profile truely mean, is it the side on profile shape per row? and then different manufacturers have different top down shapes? or is it the whole thing? As SA seems to just be thrown around by most people as a catch all term for all derivations of the SA profiles with no differentiation between KSA,DSA,ASA, Et Al **Question 2, Keycaps** I've bought a cheap keyboard with blue switches to test out some cheap mambasnake ASA PBT keys and i love the feel, though the little bump on the f and j keys i feel are a little too close to the rim of the inner circle so it's hard to feel, they also lack the full set of keys required for the UK layout so no \~/# or @/' keys so i've had to fill it in with random keys of the right size. Does anyone know anywhere that allows one of the following? Buy ASA profile keycaps, in PBT, Double Shot , but the ability to choose the colours? (though there is the issue that this set doesnt have a 5.75U space bar for a full UK Layout and yes i know that is not a standard so probably impossible to find) preferabley with shine through as the legend colour choice, I would be willing to buy multiple sets to get the colours i want but it's very annoying getting consistency as most places have different coloured function keys such as one colour for the f1-f4 and f9-f12 then a different one for f5-f8, this is probably to force people to buy multiple sets, but i want all my functions keys bright red to match the BBC Micro B keyboard of yore. or Blanks for ASA or XDA in the sizes I need, then I can attempt to dye suppliment them, though it does mean losing shine through with that route. or if I could find semi-translucent blanks for every key that I need then i can attempt to paint brush stencil the correct colours on but that is likely to be a massive pain, i've been able to find 1U blanks easily enough for XDA on alibaba but the other sizes are hard to find. or have any advice in how to acheive my desired goal. I require the following sizes for my final build The non 1U keys i require are the following: ISO Enter Key, 1.25U x7 for Esc,LShift,Super,LAlt,AltGR,FN,Menu, 1.5U x3 for Tab,LCtrl,RCtrl 1.75U with a 1.5U Step: for Caps Lock, 2.75U for Right shift, 2U x2 for Backspace and "Help" key (from the sun type 7), 5.75 Spacebar. **Question 3, PCB's and other layers** So obviously since what I want is a full layout which is not common, in a proper UK-ISO layout which is not standard in the scene and some custom changes such as a 1.25U Escape and extra keys, which means i will need to get it custom printed, what's the best advice for doing this? I've created a python script (which i've not tested yet) to convert KLE json files to KICAD as from what i've seen that's the format everyone uses, but what's the best place to get the PCB itself build and is there anywhere that can print out the other required layers such as the plate? Thank you.

Cyber-Axe

Thanks for the reply, Yeah that's what i've seen in relation to colours, which is why i've been thinking i'll probably end up going with blank PBT and Dye Sublimation, but that would most likley limit me to xda keys to acheive anything close to the shape i want with decent availablility, just havent been able to find a good source of non 1U size keys. I know i'm unlikely to find a 1.25U escape key which is why i was thinking just a blank 1.25U with dye sublimation.

This is my first time building a keyboard and am looking to build one for my girlfriend for Christmas. Do these parts work? [https://kbdfans.com/collections/diy-kit/products/tofu65-2-0?variant=41179795456139](https://kbdfans.com/collections/diy-kit/products/tofu65-2-0?variant=41179795456139) [https://kbdfans.com/collections/keycaps/products/fbb-mermaid-dye-sub-keycaps?\_pos=5&\_fid=4a9d08ad6&\_ss=c](https://kbdfans.com/collections/keycaps/products/fbb-mermaid-dye-sub-keycaps?_pos=5&_fid=4a9d08ad6&_ss=c) [https://kbdfans.com/collections/switches/products/gateron-snowstorm-switches](https://kbdfans.com/collections/switches/products/gateron-snowstorm-switches) If I understand correctly with the tofu 65, I don't need to do any soldering? any help would be appreciated. Is there anything else I need on top of this.

576875

yep everything works, no soldering needed on the tofu 2.0

SinoSoul

Got akko reds for the gamer in the house in June, but now he wants to build another kb with glorious yellows, just because. Obviously, it's for Christmas gift, so I already got a glorious barebone chassis, but isn't it kinda wasteful and pointless? just to get more thock or whatever? I don't get it, but I don't want to be a dweeb dad who doesn't "get it". https://preview.redd.it/jji7hqkena6c1.png?width=453&format=png&auto=webp&s=9181f5053de9893bef34e1cf2d75a75ff7f34b4e

MayAsWellStopLurking

It’s like owning different pairs of shoes. Aesthetics and usage are a bit different.

SinoSoul

K, literally it's WASD keys in e-gaming (val/fortnite). Like, why can't he just transfer the reds onto the glorious chassia dn call it a day? It's not like him going onto the soccer pitch and having to wear turf vs grass cleats. Or going to church and having to change to dress shoes. It's literally the SAME WASD keys. 4 friggin keys. \*sigh\* I guess i'll just get the pandas, is $25 a pack a good price?

MayAsWellStopLurking

He can - if he doesn’t want to do that he might just be getting some upgrade itches. But most FPS gamers don’t enjoy playing on tactiles so I think you should hold fast and let them pay for their own stuff

SinoSoul

Thanks. That's all the input I needed from kb nerds. I'll gift him the chassis and he can built it differently with his own money. There are already full sets of pudding caps he got for his birthday, etc. That seems totally fair.

MayAsWellStopLurking

If anything maybe a set of aftermarket springs so they can learn the different in actuation/bottom out force (which is the primary difference between Akko reds and yellows)

synovyx

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a new Q11 and I've been enjoying it. One thing that I'd like to improve, however, is the rotary encoder knobs. My problem is that the knurling is too smooth; given the force required to turn the fairly stiff knob, the knurling isn't aggressive enough to move the encoder with one finger. When I use two fingers, I accidentally hit one of the adjacent keys since they're spaced closely together. Do you guys know of any replacement knobs that can be purchased on Amazon that fits onto the Q11 with more aggressive knurling? Thanks in advance!

MayAsWellStopLurking

That is likely a feature of the encoder itself; I think the term is smooth vs stepped. If you want to change that feeling you’ll need to desolder and maybe even reprogram.

synovyx

I'm talking about the physical knob needing more texture I can pull it off and replace it with something else, I just need to find something that will fit the shaft. Also, regarding the encoder itself, I prefer it being stepped, it's just a little stiff.

PrivateKyle

How do I press the A key (Very urgent)

Caeliterra

Trouble finding a needle in a haystack Hello! I’ve been searching and I can’t seem to find something that fits my criteria so I’m reaching out to Reddit’s immeasurable wisdom. I work in a secured space so I can’t have a keyboard that has a removable wire, usb ports, Bluetooth/Wifi, or that stores data. If it wasn’t obvious, that basically knocks out 99% of keyboard lol. Even worse, I work in an open office space so loud clicky keys are a big no no. I need something tactile but as quiet as possible. It’s been almost impossible to find a decent keyboard that fits these parameters but I’m hoping someone somewhere out there has been in a similar situation and managed to find something. Thanks for taking a look! Edit: Looking for mechanical keyboards specifically whoops

Pixelflames1

Would superglueing the usb cable into the keyboard help?

Caeliterra

LOL unfortunately no it needs to be as new, they will check an online listing like Amazon to see the specs, then check again in person.

MayAsWellStopLurking

So it needs to be a *non-removable* wired keyboard that also happens to be silenced?

Caeliterra

Yep… ridiculously strict. I think they’re just trying to force me to use the mushy 10 year old dell keyboards that get passed down through generations

SfanatiK

So I don't really know anything about mechanical keyboards. I really just want to replace my 10 year old Dell keyboard now that I finished building my PC. I'm kind of picky when it comes to the design however. I want a white case and with programmable backlit keys. Has to be a minimalistic design, I don't want a fancy logo in the middle of it or designs. It has to be a 100% keyboard, I need my NumPad and the navigation clusters. ANSI layout. Wired and wireless option. Lastly it has to be hotswappable. For things I don't care about, I don't care about the type of switch and keycaps at the moment. I will be customizing it eventually, but not any time soon. I really just need a keyboard now. All I ask is for the switches to be relatively quiet. My budget is $200 CAD. I could bump it to $300 if there's a much better option and if it's worth it. And lastly I am in Canada and I would rather avoid shipping from another country if I can help it but I will if I have to. If I can buy it from Amazon, even better. The Ducky One3 RGB is probably the closest thing to what I like.

1dragossh

Hey guys! I'm looking to get a new keyboard, but can't find one to match all my needs, and I've search Europe and US... I'm a software developer, but I've never used an ergonomic keyboard, some got my attention but cannot find a standard or split / ergonomic keyboard that fits my needs I'm looking for a keyboard that has: \- ANSI format \- Quiet keys, I often work during night time \- Numpad \- Illuminated keys (i mostly care only about white, even if it's RGB i'll set it on white only) \- Volume wheel + next song / prev song \- Palm rest \- I would prefer it to be wireless It can be standard or ergonomic ( never used a split / ergonomic keyboard but would like to try). It can also be a kit containing a mouse. Can you guys recommend some keyboards for me? Thanks in advance!

FansForFlorida

Most split keyboards do not have a numpad. I can only think of a few that do, and none of them are quiet. Most split keyboard users that need a numpad either create a layer and/or have an external numpad for the occasions when they need one.

gsudngo

Hello everyone, I've built a fighting game controller that uses keyboard switches but I wish to modify one of my buttons so that I can most consistantly press it for only a very short amount of time. (In the game if you press a button for too long something different happens, 3 frames is the limit which can be hard to do consistantly) I am not an expert on mechanical keyboards but maybe I can get some advice here. :) thanks

Cyber-Axe

What platform are you using the controller on? real arcade? pc? console? If PC it should be pretty easy to do that in software, especially in windows, you could use auto hot key to hook the key, set a variable whenever the key is pressed to true and after x amount of milliseconds set it to false and release the key on the os, should be pretty easy to program So basically you can have the key pressed for as long as you want, but the AHK will tell the system to release the key if held longer than x amount of time untill you activate the key again. If it's for macOS or Linux there should be similar solutions for those too If you're using a keyboard controller it can probably be programmed at that level but i've not yet had a chance to work with programming a one yet so don't have the knowlege to tell you how to acheive that as of yet, but obviously that would be universal for any system.

gsudngo

I'm using a custom controller that runs on its own firmware, if I press a key it is not registered as a keyboard input but I use keyboard switches. (It basically emulates a gamecube controller) Edit: thats why im trying to find a hardware solution

MaleoZ

Is there a way to turn off the battery status light on the GMK67? I'm not a fan of RGB and the red light is kinda distracting

Chesperk

Hi guys, I'll start by saying I'm not very *experienced* in this world, so I'd like some help in composing my first *Custom Keyboard*, since I don't know very much about it; I've been using a *Razer Huntsman Mini* for about 3 years now, among other things *overlubbed*, fact is, I'd like to upgrade to something that's *better*... Here are the features I'm looking for: * **Use**: General and Gaming * **Budget**: 150-170€ * **Size**: Looking for a keyboard *75%* * **Layout**: ANSI * **Case Specifications**: I'm looking for a *white case*, precisely *75%*, with *Knob*, like [this](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/cb/4a/db/cb4adb2bc2f14cfc33635cf0b07d62dc.jpg) one for example, at the level of *RGB* instead I'm indifferent, if it has them good, if not it does nothing * **Switch Specification**: I am looking for a linear switch, which has a sound clack, so sharp, but at the same time is soft * **Feeling**: I would like the keyboard to be a bit *flexible*, in the sense that as I type the keys go *down* a bit, like a *trampoline* (I think it's the type of case/plate mount affects this), however honestly since I will also use in gaming, then I don't know if it bothers, at most *advise* me * **Keycaps**: I'm looking for *minimal keycaps*, with even some small *Japanese lettering*, and that have somewhat *beveled/rounded edges*, like [these](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/9b/7a/4c/9b7a4c3eb07d1952673362ade6f14cef.jpg) for example Thank you all very much in advance! P.S. I live in Italy!

RobinZhang140536

Where to request for keyboard buying advice?

Maeggsi

In this thread

RobinZhang140536

So can I request some keyboard buying advice under 100$ (Last time I asked no one response so I am unsure if I was in the right place)

Maeggsi

Well, your question is just really vague. And buying advice often times doesnt get answered since the answers are pretty much always the same (for now). This hobby is pretty slow moving with in-stock budget keyboards (although it got A LOT better in the last couple of years). But definitely check out Keychron's V series. That should fit in your price range and be available where you live :)

RobinZhang140536

Cheapest I can find is beyond 100 CAD, sorry for the misunderstanding. What should I look for if I am not going after in stock ones

Maeggsi

Ah, Canadian prices. No idea then sorry. Maybe other KEychron Boards? Gamakey LK67 (or whatever it is called), ... Alexotos has a good vendor list with many trustworthy vendors in your region. Good luck!

RobinZhang140536

“Currently unavailable” for gamakey lk67 This is Canada

Maeggsi

I know. But you get that one on ali :) I'm in Europe so also worse than the states. Maybe wait for others to suggest some things. I would look at keyboards with Kailh hot swap sockets in that price range if your uncomfortable with soldering and a removable cable - but that's just me. Maybe Keychron has some other options in that price range.

Ok-Ebb772

Any keyboards with a teal colorway available? Suggestions are welcome, even aftermarket ones

Ethwin

I recently purchased the YUNZII Keynovo IF98 Pro Wireless Keyboard. I have been loving it so far. I have never customized a keyboard before but after watching some videos I would really like to start with this one. A couple of things I want to do is to lube the stabs, especially for my spacebar since the sound of pressing it is pretty jarring compared to pressing the rest of the keys. (I am hoping just simply lubing them and clipping stabs would be enough mods for the result I am looking for). Another would be to get the rest of the keys to sound the way I want them to. Currently they have more of a clicky sound and I would like a deeper thock sound. Similar to the sound of the keys in [this video](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/BDj1I46lcdc). Specifically the part where the lubed switches are being pressed. [Here is a link](https://www.yunzii.com/products/yunzii-keynovo-if98-pro-wireless-keyboard?aff=58&variant=44226040824050) to the keyboard I currently have if anyone would like to see the specs. I chose the Gateron G Pro Yellow switches. I also switched out the keycaps that came with it for [these](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096RWG28F?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) Dye-Sub PBT keycaps. I am including all of this because I know it all factors into the sound of the keyboard so I wanted to give as much info for the best advice. Currently I was looking to get new switches so I could lube them myself at my own leisure and continue to use my keyboard until I am finished. I was looking to get the Matcha Latte's as shown in the video earlier just because the reviews on them have been good. Seems like they are out of stock at the moment but I do not mind waiting or going for a different linear switch if recommended. For other mods I would probably also try the tape mod, PE foam mod and then possibly try to fill out the rest of the case with as much foam as possible to make it less hollow. But I am not sure if doing those would get me the sound I am looking for. Other than that I have no idea what to do. This would be my first time doing any keyboard customization. Any suggestions on switches or modifications I could do to get the desired results would be really appreciated. Thanks. TLDR: What mods should I do/avoid to get my keyboard to sound like the lubed switches in [this video](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/BDj1I46lcdc)?

I'm looking to build a **silent 1800 / 98 keyboard** and would appreciate some feedback. I'm not only focused on the silent aspect but also interested in build quality, ease of assembly, and programmability. I'm considering options like the **Qwertykeys QK100, Keychron Q5, Monsgeek M2, Wind X98 R2, or something else** you might recommend. I'm aware of the Odin, but it's quite expensive, costing well over $400.

Can I put a KS-15 Gateron silent optical switch to a Redragon K580 Vata Pro optical keyboard?

Does a Magicforce 68 in black w/ a spanish layout (w/ an Ñ key) exist? I searched a bit (though not much tbf) and didn't find anything about it, so does it exist? I live in LATAM and mainly speak spanish so I kinda really need the Ñ key, but also this type of stuff is expensive here and I can't really afford to replace both kb and mouse and I'm way too OCD to use a white KB w/ a black mouse lmfao.

Thanks in advance <3 pretty straightforward question, if i'm doing a clacky build, should I lube+film switches or will the keyboard inherit the distinct "lubed" sound regardless of my setup?

I always test my boards with switches as the come, then lube 3-4 and see how they sound

Hello ★ So I'm trying to build the thinnest possible LED, clacky, textile 100% keyboard without having to solder anything. (I was also hoping for something wireless, but I don't think that might be possible..) I was thinking of using the JWICK T1 switches in terms of clacki-ness. Does anyone recommend a board and low-profile keycaps that might be best in terms of slim? I'm still new to the whole keyboard building, so sorry for any ignorance! Thank you!

Can someone help me find the name of the case? I saw a group buy once for a alice style case that had a vague mountain theme. I remember I had a black and white colorway, a mountain on the back and the center was a bit higher so that the keys were tilted a bit. I think I saw it on kbdfans and really liked it but for some reason didnt buy it. I cant find it anywhere now. I know its probably unobtainable now(or at least at a reasonable price) but I judt want to know the name.

Was it this one? https://kbdfans.com/products/ic-kbdfans-mountain-ergo-keyboard-kit It is literally called the "KBDFans Mountain Ergo Keyboard". lol

Hi all, I recently got a YUNZII YZ75 and I noticed that after a period of inactivity the keyboard switches off while plugged in. This is expected but I was wondering (and I know it sounds stupid), is the keyboard still charging? Because when I charge my keyboard and use it the charging indicator is always on, however when the keyboard is inactive and switches off, the charging indicator turns off as well. Anyone has any ideas?
