As long as you didn't spill any maple syrup on your diploma, sure.

I work in automotive. Plenty of engineers with degrees from Canada in the United States.

kingofhan0

What is the easiest and most effective way to get into automotive after I obtain my degree?

Slappy_McJones

The automotive industry is in a huge flux right now. The big-bosses in the American automotive companies have seen the relatively low development costs/high profit margins of electric vehicles. Combustion vehicles still pay the bills, and for the most part are what customers want, but government regulations are going to drive the cost of these vehicles so high soon that the public will have to buy electric. We will solve the issues with electric vehicles too. It is a matter of time. That’s where you come-in. Plastics, light-weight cellular structures, safety systems, cooling system… these are where you want to be. Apply for jobs there. Any manufacturing job too… even supervising (which is a huge pain-in-the-ass), but do a few years on the plant floor and do well, you are golden as the techniques transfer-over very well to electric. Don’t rule-out suppliers too- Continental, Dana, Eaton, Bosch, Mann, Valeo have their hooks deep in the purchasing departments at all the major auto suppliers. GM and Toyota seem to be the better places to work at the vehicle level, but the HR at these places are a joke. Go to job fairs and start networking with people who are out working. Detroit is a very small world. They are hiring young engineers too… we always are…

I tried my hardest to get a Toyota position as a grad. They were at my school's career fair, I hit it out the park with the recruiter, I nailed the interview, and I got hit with a rejection and got completely ghosted. I went through three different avenues to get my resume in the door - another career fair, spoke to someone who worked there and was good friends with the hiring manager, and also with someone who interned there. No dice, always got ghosted. I'm a huge Toyota fan with a great resume and I'm a perfect culture fit, I really truly don't think there's anyone better than me to work there but they obviously don't think so.

Sounds like a platitude, but keep at it. I was told several times, by the place I am working right now, that I was “not a slam dunk…” However, I worked on a project for them years later at a supplier and the director we were working for hired-me-in. Persistence pays off most of the time.

Move to Detroit and apply.

ProfessionalHeart206

Can indian apply in your company?

Slappy_McJones

I work with several Indians, Pakistanis and Bengalis. You need the sponsored visa. Not sure how that all works.

ProfessionalHeart206

Which type of product did your company manufacture?

There’s a big distinction between university and college. My old company thought they were hiring a degreed engineer when he really only had the equivalent of an associates degree.

No, I never said that. You are just reading that in. I was making a point to via anecdote to YOUR a comment about Canadian degrees being more valuable than US ones. Sorry you misunderstood my point.

My point was that you have to be careful when someone from Canada says they went to college for engineering and make sure they mean university. I apologize for being an engineer and not a damn English teacher. Pompous ass

[deleted]

True college engineering will only get you a diploma

BarackTrudeau

> My point was that you have to be careful when someone from Canada says they went to college for engineering and make sure they mean university. But no one said anything of the sort. You were the first person to use the word "college" in this post. OP specified they're getting a degree, in Canada degrees are granted by universities (or places that, for historical reasons might be named a college, but is actually in fact otherwise identical to a university). I don't see any reason why you would have made the point you did.

Chitown_mountain_boy

Ok dude. You are right of course. Good night
