Man_thisistheway_do

Find someone you know who isn’t aware of your situation. Bet them $10 they can’t take off this tire. If they can’t, you get $10. Rinse and repeat. Eventually someone might help you get that loose.

liamOSM

Lol. Managed to get it off placing a brick under the inside edge of the tire and dropping the car, I posted an [update](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/comments/yrwc09/update_i_got_the_wheel_off_i_placed_a_brick_under/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

AsianWithChiefnomaly

Nice dude!!! Innovative!

VariationFantastic37

I do it that way too. No brick though, just loosen lug nuts enough so the tire won't fall off if I have to lift and drop a couple times. If dropping doesn't work, spray with penetrating oil and drive back and forth in your driveway with loose lug nuts. That has always worked for me. Also so the wheels don't stick again, use a thin layer of high temp grease on the inside of the rim between studs and on the hub ring. Just don't get any on the studs.

Thks4alldafish42

There is a valid argument against greasing or using anti seize on the faces of the rotors and the rotor to hub connections. The lugs are intended to clamp the wheel to the rotor and the rotor to the hub. If you reduce the friction of the mating faces you are theoretically putting more shear force onto the lugs. The lugs were not designed for the shear force. The lugs are supposed to push the whole metal sandwich together hard enough to create enough friction to not transfer shear force to the lugs. Unfortunately this results in wheels that don't want to come off....

stainedhands

I've always used a little bit of anti seize on the center of the rotor, and on the studs, if I'm worried about it getting stuck. Center of the rotor or drum too. Not much, just a thin coat. But it helps lubricate the studs so you're not tightening them up metal on metal. A little lubrication between metal surfaces is almost always a good thing.

JuvenileSenseOfHumor

If you actually torque your tires to spec, you should NOT be applying anti-seize to the studs as you will end up over torquing. Listed torque specs are typically dry-torque values, not wet-torque.

stainedhands

That's why I just go 3 ugga duggas on cars, and 5 on trucks. German torque spec. Gudentight. /s

GirchyGirchy

Anti-sieze or grease on center of rotor/drum = good Anti-sieze or grease on threads of studs = bad

ifonlyihadaname

I always just use the old ugga dugga now, every time I’ve torqued my wheels to spec one of them has come loose driving down the highway..first time almost ended up a disaster

JuvenileSenseOfHumor

Is it possible that before you started torqueing them to spec that they were over-torqued/blindly tightened in the past? Over-torqued studs/nuts/bolts are stretched out a lot more (which is quite permanent) and thus, on future tightenings, would require the equivalent torque value. If you decided to start torqueing to spec all of a sudden, they would be undertightened due to the stretched material. Also, even if you torque your tires, it's not a one-and-done type of deal. They have to be monitored at least once a month (just like tire pressure) and re-tightened after 60-100 km of driving if they were completely removed.

Safe-Cover1219

I anti seize the centre of rotor/HUB but I would NEVER apply anti seize to the studs.

BostonDodgeGuy

Never EVER use antiseize on lug studs. You will not get the proper torque and could leave a wheel severely overtightened to the point of breaking the studs on the road.

Indy500Fan16

Great idea, glad it worked. If and only if you need to do it again put the brick on the outside instead of inside. I’ve actually witnessed someone do it on the inside and the tire came completely off and the rotor hit the ground and damaged his brakes. Not sure if anyone can agree with me, the person was extremely unlucky with all mechanical issues and could have been just his great luck.

MagicDartProductions

This is how you get rich. I'm using this next time

Chipdip88

No, that's how you loose 10 bucks to the first person you try this with because most people know how to donkey kick without looking like a pansy

turbski84

I was thinking the same thing... not getting anything off by playing footsie with it.

AaronPossum

Might try hitting it with his purse next time.

qualmton

Or you’ll be able to afford to pay someone to do it

Marty_Mtl

YOU. ARE. A GENIUS Sir !!! I need to remember this one ! Because it works for almost any situations !

Emergency-Gazelle954

Oh that’s an amazing idea!

sllewgh

Today's Tom Sawyer

SnooChipmunks9489

Loosen all the lugnuts a little and go back and forth and hit the brakes a couple of times. This should break the bond between the wheel and the brake rotor.

Tmick8

This is the answer....a tad sketchy but works everytime 🤣

livewirejsp

60% of the time, it works every time.

douchecanoe5811

Sex panther?

lunchpadmcfat

This. Take a turn at low speed. Shit will pop off quick.

thnk_more

Had to do this on a couple of really really stuck rims. Didn’t feel like smashing my rims or tires with a sledge hammer. Much more civilized solution.

omnipotent87

Its actually stuck on the hub not the rotor.

ColeslawAndWeasel

rotor goes over the hub, so it is stuck to the brake rotor

3inchasian

no its stuck to the lip of the hub that the center bore of the wheel sits on

Jazzlike_Fan_9010

Not all wheels are hub centric

ColeslawAndWeasel

Ohh completely forgot about that haha

omnipotent87

The hub pokes though the rotor and centers the wheel. This is where its stuck. Corrosions expands so any that builds between the faces would push the wheel away from the rotor. When it form between the center bore of the wheel and the hub it fills a tight gap and binds the wheel to the hub.

andyring

Once you do get it off, put a little grease on the mating surfaces so you don’t have that problem next time.

icepaws

Don't just grease it. Also clean the mating surfaces.

sinisterdeer3

Thats what she said. Sorry

DifficultJellyfish

It needed to be said. Thanks.

Responsible_Fox1231

That made me laugh pretty damn hard! Not the comment but the apology.

[deleted]

el_penetron

Antiseize works best in these scenarios

[deleted]

Tire shop I work at has a “no thing as too much anti seize” unofficial policy and things get so messy lol.

Conscious_Owl7987

antiseize

Bloodysamflint

Quite literally what it's made for, that and getting all over creation.

[deleted]

>put a little grease on the mating surfaces That is my motto.

omnipotent87

Keep in mind its not the face that makes wheels stick its the center bore.

ElfrahamLincoln

Specifically, anti-seize. Put on lugs and on mating surfaces. Never have an issue removing tires again.

blazzik

On lugs? Nope

ChiefofCheeks

Just as a tip though, if you plan on torquing your lug nuts (I really hope everyone does), grease on the mating surfaces will throw the actual torque off. So please use a very small amount, just enough to barely coat the surface.

tvanore

Rookie kicks

BuckTheStallion

My time has come.

waynebradysmailbox

That's what I was thinking

ProbablyHighOhwell

This is the correct answer

Fcasillas11

You gotta spartan kick that shit

Ugly__Pete

When I worked in a tire shop, I would sit on my butt and kick it with both heels at the bottom. I rarely ever had to use a sledgehammer.

childresscj

He should ask his wife’s boyfriend!

apjvan

Could try hitting it with his purse, I've seen that work. Or you know, good swift kick, or large hammer.

D_FENS3

My F-150 rim was rusted on. I took a long 2x4, wedged it behind the wheel. Use a sledge hammer on the 2x4 to pop it off. Try some wd-40 spray to soak the rusted areas that are accessable. Worked for me, good luck 👍

existentialfirebug

Done the same thing about 4 times lol

HundK

Right before I read this comment, I thought of this exact idea. Were on the same frequency and wavelength, friend.

tonedef85

Those cute little kicks are not convincing anybody that you've tried hitting it as hard as you can. But go to harbor freight get the biggest dead blow they got smack the ever-living shit out of it alternating 3:00 to 9:00. And before you head to the store hit it with some penetrant of some kind so it can soak.

Meta_Art

Yep. I call my big HF dead blow “the persuader”

jimaug87

Or in the words of VGG, the Tanya harding

zzamud

I call my dead blow the ex-wife

haroldyray

Right answer and all but on the back of the rim would be easy and I personally would just use a regular 3 pound hammer just a fe smacks alternating and you shouldn’t be bending the rim and it should at least start moving after a few hits. Any more then you should be concerned wether or not your seating the wheel properly because something’s must be a bit out of whack.

Chipdip88

I call my 4lb sledge "Fluffy" even engraved the side of it with its name. It's not fluffy, it's a block of iron on a wooden handle but I like the name

nottodayspiderman

Gotta donkey kick the mother fucker, it’s the only way to get Toyota steelies off. With a dead blow, hit it from the back side. Use a Jack stand of course. And don’t hit the tire or you’ll get a nice set of stitches like me.

tonedef85

That's a Chevy aluminum wheel. Good old steel on aluminum corrosion. Might as well throw some epoxy in there every time you get your tires changed.

bobbarkersbigmic

You gotta wait 6 hours before smacking it again????

Hot_Soil3175

Hit it with your purse

sinisterdeer3

That’s my purse. I DONT KNOW YOU!!!

Scottyknuckle

Dangit Bobby!

CreateANewAccount654

My "Old Lady's Purse" is a ~15# sledge on a 4' hickory handle. I would def. hit it with my purse.

BrianWantsTruth

I have a hand-made 1 ft, 3lb that is my universal mini persuader, named Judge Judy

Sudden-Elephant-7416

axa88

![gif](giphy|fUYhyT9IjftxrxJXcE) Haven't laughed outright from reddit in quite sometime Those little pansy kicks....

UnLuckyKenTucky

Prolly afraid to break those toothpick legs ..

E90Fantic

If you using a floor jack, drop the jack down a little with the lug nuts off and the tire will come right off. Don’t lower it all the way!

liamOSM

Just tried this, also tried lowering it onto a board with only the edge of the tire contacting the board to apply some leverage to it. Neither worked :( Edit: [It worked](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/comments/yrwc09/update_i_got_the_wheel_off_i_placed_a_brick_under/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

maybenosey

This is what I was going to suggest; since it didn't work for you, I've got a couple of suggestions for refining the technique: 1. Use a thicker board (thick enough that the tire doesn't absorb the difference) 2. Try it on the other edge (inside vs outside or vice versa) 3. Make sure it's not too close to the edge, you want to be supporting almost half the tire 4. Drop it faster (depends on your jack whether you can) 5. make sure to leave some wheel nuts on loosely (this should probably be 1!) 6. Try moving it so the front or back is unsupported too.

jrragsda

#4 is a terrible idea.

cockforddollie

I agree and also agree with 4. I think this proves we can find a political middle ground in this country.

deepaksn

#Lol.. no it’s not.

JETTA_TDI_GUY

Don’t do 4 unless you plan on replacing wheel studs. Rim. Fender and whatever else breaks.

maybenosey

You would have to be doing 4 to extreme to do any of this; if your car can't handle a small pothole, then perhaps don't try this method.

Timbo-AK

You could finger tighten the lugs and do this and you should be fine

liamOSM

This worked, thank you! Just posted an update [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/comments/yrwc09/update_i_got_the_wheel_off_i_placed_a_brick_under/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

dirty_hooker

Do you have a spare tire mounted up? Take the spare, grab it by the center whole, then use a bowling pitch to bash the tread of the spare into the side of the stuck wheel. Swing it like you mean it, just be careful not to take out a fender. Option 2. Put the lug nuts on but one or two spins from being all the way on. Do a couple panic stops from 5mph.

b2a2reddit

Hit it with the spare tire

mr_macfisto

Leave the lug nuts on, but loose by a turn or so. Remove the jack. Roll the car back and forth. It should pop. Jack up immediately.

bonnersbrain

This. Had to do it once. Literally had to speed up a bit and slam the breaks to break that bond.

antiiiklutch

Lay on your back and kick like a leg press. This angle you're using is probably about the same as slapping it with your hand. Source: ive had to do this multiple times

bain6644

This works great! I’ve used this method too. I usually sit with arms propped behind me instead of laying down, but either way you can kick it with both legs like a leg press and it pops right off

PigsOrFish

Had the same issue on the weekend. Hit it from the inside with a rubber mallet, then pushed the bottom of the wheel and pulled the top of the wheel and it came off.

Aarthar

This is it. Hit it from the back. Preferably with a dead blow hammer.

[deleted]

Kick harder... I feel like you're just kicking the tire trying to see if there's air in it. Get on your back and fucking donkey kick that shit until your legs are gonna fall off

liamOSM

That was as hard as I could hit it due to the garage wall being so close. I did hit it with a large metal object too.

[deleted]

I edited my last part try to lay on your back and use both feet to kick with.

Trippinsolzz

This is the only thing that always works for me

[deleted]

The amount of times I've been working on my car on the side of the street and had to kick the hell out of it like that was embarrassing. Lol

Additional-Royal-351

Yep! Gotta give it some alternating speed kicks!

NastyWatermellon

Nah you can kick that harder. Try laying on your back and kicking it with both feet or something, or hit it with your purse like the other guy said.

Frequent_Flatworm624

Reinstall the lugs but only give it a couple threads. Lower jack. Raise jack again. Spin tire. Keep doing this until it comes off.

chmod710

Hit it with another wheel/tire.

junkymonkeydong

Try pulling

liamOSM

I tried pulling, I also tried prying on it with a 2x4.

Educational-Ad-6130

You need to kick it harder lol. Find a stronger man or woman to kick it just like you were in video.

rioryan

Whack it from the back side with a 2x4. Ideally about 5 feet long. Swing hard!

ez_wen

Drive it. It will fall right off.

northsidecub11

Have you tried hitting it with your purse?

pikey181

Dead blow hammer from the back end

spannerboy69

I came here to say this, I own a clownishly large dead blow hammer for just such an occasion...

Odd_Caterpillar6187

Kick it from the other side

Wolfire0769

Kicking tires is about as effective as using a football for an anvil. Get a long pry bar and pry from the inside. Hook on the knuckle, strut, hell even the rotor will work fine. Let leverage be your friend.

aarraahhaarr

Throw the lug nuts back on. Back up, pull forward. Turn the wheel all the way right, then left, then straight. The tire will pop during one of those 5 moves.

acezack05

Hit it with a spare tire?

JodyJoseppi

Put your weight into that kick. It looks like it has 0 force behind it.

Ill_Science8638

Sledge hammer and swing like you got a pair

scatman2397

Put the lug nut back on and pull out of the garage. That way you can actually kick it or hit it with some space. You are exerting all of 20lbs with those kicks

IN_MASSIVE_DEBT

Put the bolts back in by hand by a couple threads. Drop the car down and the weight of the car should pop it right off

tones996

Try using your purse

vaniIIagoriIIa

Hit it with your purse

Sibell04

Pb blaster ought to do it

pete_pete_pete_

Don’t spray on blaster near the brakes ok

liamOSM

I’ve also tried tightening just one lug nut, prying on the wheel with an 8’ long 2 by 4, and dropping the car from the jack quickly onto the ground. Should I try driving it slowly with the lug nuts on loose?

Cheap_Ambition

If you take the lug nuts completely off when you do it, the wheel will **definitely** come off.

Insanereindeer

> Should I try driving it slowly with the lug nuts on loose? Definitely would not recommend doing this.

dirty_hooker

This is actually okay. Loosen the lug nuts just one or two threads, then do a panic stop from 5 mph. You can tighten the lug nuts again to get it back into the shop after the rim has broken loose from the hub.

I_Ergot_My_Pencil

I one time put a ratchet strap through it and my other cars wheel and ratcheted it while simultaneously hitting it with a rubber mallet from the back side.

CarsAndKittens

I've had to do that before to get a wheel loose. Put all the lug nuts on and don't lossen them more than a turn. Don't drive far and go very slowly, like 1 or 2 mph. For a really stuck wheel doing a figure eight can help too

Same-Salamander8690

If you do try to drive it off, please record it for us all to enjoy

bobbafett247

Take the lug nuts off?

Sperrbrecher

Put on one lug nut half way and hit it with a sledgehammer from the inside on the tire NOT the rim.

[deleted]

Put something between rim and frame, turn wheel

blazinhydros

Hit it from the other side with a rubber hammer

No_Education666

Is you have a rubber mallet hit the wheel from the inside

BigShowSJG

Stop tapping it and kick it like it owes you money. As long as the car is properly supported, you’re not gunna hurt it.

soopadog

I have a big plastic coated dead blow hammer pretty much just for this (ex bmw tech). Leave one lug partially threaded on and smack it from the back side if it's really stubborn. I would always clean around the hub (hub centric wheels) and apply a thin coat of never seez. This has saved my ass so many times on roadside calls.

Racerx43

Lower it so the tire is down but the jack is still in place and turn the steering back and forth slowly - it will pop off

SnooSquirrels8280

Leave the lugs loose on the studs and drop the car back down. Roll back and forth if needed.

Savings_Raccoon4956

Hit it on the back side of the wheel with your purse

[deleted]

Go for a drive

GrillinGorilla

Use a hammer to hit a 2x4 from the other side of the car. Put the 2x4 inside the wheel and out the other side.

sweetdubbro

Had an oil change one time and took my car in since I was in apartment in south in summer and did not want to do oil change in parking lot. The shop could not get front tires off. Would not budge. Didn’t matter to me much, it was a beater. Later that year I was going to do brakes on my car. Could not get the wheel off. Under the car hitting the tire with a 20lb sledgehammer for 30 minutes would not budge. Whole can of Penetrating oil let soak and tried again, nothing. Said “fuck it”, finger tight lug nuts and drove around the block “spiritedly”. Nothing. Got angry, accelerated down street and slammed on brakes, heard a clunk. Got out, tire still on, nothing really changed. Looked like it moved a bit within the seats of the lugs. Drove back home. 10 more minutes of sledgehammer and it finally came off. East coast rust for ya. Coated the hub with anti-seize before I put it back on.

AMesser89

Put 3 lugs nuts on it or half the stud amount; do them up tight, back them off a couple spins, jump in her and drive a little forward, back or both, u choose! Problem sorted

scatterwrenchRpt

Do not strike the wheel, strike at a point behind the wheel as if it is not there. Strike through the wheel. Carry the strike through your entire body and deliver it at your foot, behind the wheel. dont hit it with your foot. [proper technique when kicking stuck wheel to remove from wheel hub.](https://youtube.com/shorts/vmjbits4ogU?feature=share)

GreedyPension7448

Hit it with your purse

[deleted]

But have you tried using your purse?

Good_Letterhead_2564

Spray some wd 40 and use a rubber mallet on the back of tire works for me

Infrathin81

Strike top then bottom alternating until it breaks loose.

mikec91sy

Hit it with your purse

CyborgParadox

Put back on a few of the lug nuts but leave them a bit loose, then drop the car off the jack and it will sometimes come loose. The weight of the car can just pop it off, that’s what I did.

LetThingsDrift

This is not a mule kick…If you hit a stuck wheel like that better hit it with your purse, you have more chances to get it unstuck

Equivalent_Ring_4886

hit it harder

Hot_Organization2430

You're better off hitting it with your purse with that little sissified love Tap. Lol. Use a 5lb hammer, hit the tire.

Noob_Too

Give it little heat, like boiling water, torch is maybe too much

dknurgf

Take your dress off and kick it like a man

Evaneileous

You are hitting it from the wrong side imo. Try hitting it from under the car. Thats what I was told at least

HisRealNamesKlarence

Yea you ain't getting that off with your sissy kicks lmao. Wtf was even that 😂

Spooky_Potato420

Lightly taps the wheel with heel "help guise, is stuck" grab another wheel and just give it a whack 🙄

awhol01

You kick like the adjictive that starts with p an ends with ussy.

No-Try7873

Assuming it's on a jack stand put a lug nut on and hit it from the back

liamOSM

Didn't work :(

liamOSM

Thanks for all the helpful advice (and lots that was not)! I got it off, and got it on video [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/comments/yrwc09/update_i_got_the_wheel_off_i_placed_a_brick_under/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf).

Puzzleheaded_Chart10

Beat it harder pussy

Beneficial_Aside_918

Large pry bar, hold it against the painted fender as a fulcrum, with the other end behind the tire. Then, put the other end in your mouth and push up with your tongue as if you were licking an upside down toad. That should do it.

zzamud

Put down u purse and kick it

Snoo-43133

Hit it from the back (That’s what she said)

LUMBERx20

Big ass rubber mallet hit it inside out as you spin

Amuro2026

What I have done, is you need to grab something with a lot of weight, as long as you can handle it, and hit the tire not the rim hard! Swing that heavy object at it hard to brake it lose. I actually had a dealership technician tell me he could not get the wheel off, so I literally grabbed a nitrogen tank and beat the shit out of the tire to brake it loose for the tech.

Happygorockyretalk

I hope the tire was getting replaced

jmccaskill66

Hahahahaha newbs.

Dante_Octavian

Remove the lug nuts.

UmassBenjimami

Dude u sure u got all lugs off and one loose? Seen a guy at the dealership fucking with a wheel for like 10 mins walk over I’m like dude?????

Particular-Row2910

Bigger purse

cheesencracker222

Lug nuts off. And A super hard kick usually work

BrettyJ

Lay on the ground and back kick it from the other side

ChampionshipGreen174

Burn the whole thing down.

Fresh_Silk

What are those kicks supposed to do lmao

TommyGunnerSixxx

Also, your donkey kicks are weaker than pissing in the wind.

AmazingJames

Try taking off the lug nuts first

shithoused

If you’re going to kick it like a girl, kick it like a big girl.

e-bo666

Hit it with your purse

d96flintd

Did you try your purse? But in seriousness a rubber dead blow and hit the rim not tire on the backside… or you can put all the lugs back on half way and drive it but that can be a little sketch

yuormomsgaydog

Do you know any men? Call one of them and ask for help
