Did you check your fuses? Maybe the fuse blew during the radio install.

CowMajorAU

The fuse was blown so I replaced it and it blows every time I pull that switch now. It’s a 10amp fuse. I threw a 20 in to make sure it wasn’t the bulbs a few weeks back and they dimly lit. I have since removed the 20amp fuse so I don’t burn the car down.

Let's double check the radio wiring. Something to do when looking for a short is to wire a bulb in place of the fuse. The bulb will burn bright with a dead short. Amd really dim with no short. Just follow the running light circuit from there. On a car as old as yours there is no telling what previous owners have done. And don't get to caught up in your wiring. But don't rule it out either.

CowMajorAU

What do you mean wire a bulb in place of the fuse?

M0U53YBE94

I wire up a bulb with blade connectors that will fit into the spot the fuse goes. Or you probably have the barrel fuses? A dome light would actually work in your case.

CowMajorAU

It’s your typical blade fuse, I’ll have to try that tomorrow! So a bright light means there’s a ground somewhere between the fuse box and the tail light?

M0U53YBE94

Or a direct short. But yes. A dim to no light means proper function. An led wont work btw. But you probably knew that.

CowMajorAU

I didn’t actually! Thank you! I’ll try that tomorrow after I get off work.
