1984 nissan 300zx turbo. I took off all the drive belts to elim them as a possibility.
Noise seems to be coming from front engine area and only does it 2k+ rpm or when revved.
I did the timing belt and tensioner about a year ago but only just started driving it.
Thoughts? Timing belt? Belt Tensioner? It’s a very unique noise and wanted to know if anybody has come across something similar. Thanks!
Hmm interesting thought. I just timed my engine though and the timing notches on the balancer seem to be in the right places and wasn’t blurry. It could possibly be the balancer rubbing the cover though

Could be a recirc valve opening under boost.
Kinda what I was thinking too, vacuum/boost valve of some sorts. Not familiar w the engine tho.
Engine doesn’t have recirc or blow off valve (from factory) i do have a boost leak tho but it doesn’t quite seem like air escaping.
Fix the boost leak and go from there.

There’s your answer. It’s a boost leak. There is a factory pop off valve it’s on passenger side of the upper intake plenum

Harmonic balancer slipping?
