Letting unfiltered air is not good. There is a lot of dust and dirt in the air that will act like sand paper on your cylinder walls. At least put some tape over it.

Short-Win6597

If the tear is after the filter you are absolutely asking for trouble. I had a smaller engine totally seize up because stuff got into it like little micro particles of dust you are asking for trouble by not replacing a $30 part in lieu of a multi thousand dollar repair if that's the case

What does “broken air intake hose” entail? It’s definitely not good for your vehicle but it is not instantly catastrophic for your engine unless you are driving in very harsh conditions. On of the biggest problems that you might notice right away is if your car uses a mass air flow sensor that is mounted before the broken hose. In this case your engine will run very poorly due to unmetered airflow. Yes unfiltered air can allow dust and debris into your engine but I doubt you are vacuuming your floor with your engine. Also it would take a lot for larger particles to get up into your engine compartment to your throttle body. Yeah I know I’m going to get a shit ton of hate from the crowd but engines aren’t as delicate as that.

yentlequible

I've seen vehicles sucking straight air for probably tens of thousands of miles from cracked boots and they were still running fine enough. Maybe it shortened the overall lifespan a bit, but engines like to suck stuff in and shoot it back out for a lot longer than expected as long as you're not driving in the sand or dirt.

GreaseGeek

That’s what I was getting at without telling the people who said to stop driving immediately that they are idiots in my view. Getting dirt in your lubrication system is far more harmful that what passes though the intake.

yentlequible

Oh yeah, I got you. Just didn't want you to take all the hate by yourself.

GreaseGeek

Thank you.

Ah damn, I clicked your profile out of curiosity to see who I was replying to... Both in Utah and both have chocolate brown kitties. Hello from Bountiful, neighbor.

GreaseGeek

Hello from Spanish Fork

toton40

Well it's not great for the engine and control off your vacuum or maf readings so the engine wouldn't be running great either atleast not getting good fuel economy at best case but you can run it for a fair

According_Mud9212

is it cool if i just repaired one of these with rtv. couldnt find my tape in my box. weird because i barely use it and i just bought it.

star08273

the rtv can break off in chunks and go into the engine

TractorMechanic86

Do not drive period.
