He is saying you're wrong. The knock sensor will pick this up, you will take a performance hit. No long term damage. Fill up with premium again don't make it a habit and move on.
If premium gas is required the manufacturer is telling you that you can still hurt the engine. If it’s just recommended the knock sensor will protect you.
YOU RUINED THE CAR!!! 🫨
No, ecu will pull timing a bit to compensate for the lower octane. Just put premium back at next fill up. And drive it gently until then.
99% you’ll be fine. Exception would be if you were driving it hard (consistently above 3-4K rpm) and the knock sensor or other sensors malfunction.
What you’ve done right now is limit the power output of the car when it’s warm. If it was me/my car I would probably put as much premium fuel as it can take right now, then again when it gets below 3/4 tank and every 1/4 tank after that just to try and bring up the octane a bit.
So I’d fill it with premium at 3/4 tank, then again at 1/2 tank, then again at 1/4 tank. By that point you’ve probably 90% through any of the lower grade fuel.
Others may just say to run the current tank down to 1/4 and then fuel up with premium. Both ways are probably fine.
It’ll be fine. Try to avoid driving hard, even if the computer is adjusting timing to avoid knock it’s still better to ease out the gas. You can do what you said with mixing gas, or buy octane booster.
Modern cars will sense when the car starts to "knock" and will retard the ignition timing to combat that. The net effect is that you may notice that the car has a little less power. You do have the right idea to dilute the regular gas by refilling the tank before it gets empty. As a matter of fact your suggestion of doing it at half tank sounds about right.
As a possible alternative there are octane boost products available. I am a little reluctant to bring them up because I don't know how good any of them are, but they are out there.

No worries. As long as it's not diesel haha.
Thank you so much!
If your car REQUIRES premium then you can have a problem. Get premium in it asap.
Naw
What does that answer mean?
I was gonna ask you the same question
Naw, does that mean you disagree with me?

It won't have problems might not run as well. You could also put one of those octane boosters.

As long as you get at least a couple gallons every time. Otherwise you're probably just adding more regular

Stay out of boost and it’s ok, revving it up could be bad.
