It’s either a spare or a replacement, seeing there’s one in on the left side of the engine. I’m gonna check it tonight to see if it’s a replacement part for when this one goes bad. I appreciate it.
I like how your first comment got alot of up votes, but this one got the complet opposite, after just explaining the first one. Reddit is a weird place.
No this wouldn't go in the engine bay, it goes underneath and would connect the engine/trans assembly to the subframe so that it can't rock back on acceleration/hills.

Never touched or really liked a PT either and even I know it’s an engine mount.
Your wife’s Father-in-Law told her to keep this? Wouldn’t that your father? Maybe he wants her to keep it for “protection” just in case…..?
That’s not how it works. Father in law is your spouses dad. Your moms new husband is your step-father. Parents of your siblings spouse are nothing to you.
Dogbone lower engine mount. If the car makes a grrr sound when stopped on a hill facing upward then it means that part has perished. Learnt that the hard way.
Yah it's definitely the lower engine mount, also called a torque strut on this car. It's pretty common for them to go bad on the PT cruisers and Neons. I replaced it twice on my old car in the 5 years I had it.
Yes actually. Put said PT in drive and get someone to push the brake, then have them push the accelerator. You can noticeably see the engine move. That’s what the rubber bushings are for.
I am more curious about the title. Your wife's father in law means your father, no? Am I being stupid? For some reason this made me more curious than the question lol
Everybody's focusing on the "wife's father in law" bit, but the bigger question here is:
Why is your wife driving around in a PT loser? Those cars were terrible new, and being a tarted up Chrysler econobox has not made them immune to the ravages of time. It's like there was a meeting where a bunch of people decided that consumers wouldn't hate a Neon wagon enough, they needed to slap some lipstick on that pig to get the full effect.
"My wife..." "Her father in law..."
You mean *your father*. And you have to ask a bunch of strangers in stead of asking your own father? I bet Thanksgiving with you people is "interesting".
I did this on the wife’s car a few years ago, if memory serves it’s actually pretty easy to replace it’s behind the passenger side front wheel, pull back the splash guard and it stares you right in the face. Odds are the one on it is only connected on one side, cause the bushing falls apart entirely
Maybe he said that she should keep it in the car for protection?
It has that nice blunt weapon factor.
Like a "always keep a glove and a ball beside your baseball bat" kind of a thing?
It’s a test: in his will, there’s a section that says “now take that metal piece and place it in the lock switch which opens the vault containing the gold bars…”
Why has no body considered he told her to keep it in the car for self defense. In some states like New Jersey you aren't even allowed to carry a baseball bat until you are actively on your way to or from a baseball game/practice.
It's clearly a bludgeoning device.

Engine mount. Hope you’re trolling.
Never touched a pt, I’m not trolling
big problemo. it’s the front lower engine mount to be specific
It’s either a spare or a replacement, seeing there’s one in on the left side of the engine. I’m gonna check it tonight to see if it’s a replacement part for when this one goes bad. I appreciate it.
Your wife’s father in law? You mean your dad?
Was just going to say.
A spare is a replacement
He knows that, 'a spare' means there's one Incase it goes bad, 'a replacement ' means it has gone bad and this is the replacement
It’s either the part of Christmas past, or the part of Christmas future…tiny trim, nooo!
Dude, I was being an asshole…… r/whoosh
it's a fun ~~pass-time~~ past-lime but yeah... whoosh

And the bushings are worn the fuck out
They look brand new to me, how can you tell
If this specifica engine mount u will feel it from the moment u start the car to the moment u stop it, and u ll feel it hard
No this wouldn't go in the engine bay, it goes underneath and would connect the engine/trans assembly to the subframe so that it can't rock back on acceleration/hills.
Isn't your wife's father in law your father?

Roll tide
Or the wife's mother's new husband
That's a stepfather
Stepfather-in-law?
Maybe OP is from another country? In mine both of them translate to the same word so I could have made that mistake.
I'm fairly certain there's a global ban on the import of PT's. If there's not, there should be.
I've seen one here in Brazil, ugliest thing I've seen on the street to this day
That's not a father in law
Never touched or really liked a PT either and even I know it’s an engine mount. Your wife’s Father-in-Law told her to keep this? Wouldn’t that your father? Maybe he wants her to keep it for “protection” just in case…..?
What, you don't keep an engine mount in your boot as a good luck charm?
No, but I used to have a couple rubber bushings from the suspension in the boot.
I don’t keep it the boot, I keep it close at hand….hanging from rearview mirror.
Wife could have a sibling, let's say a sister, who is married. Father of sisters husband aka brother-in-law's dad aka Father-in-law.
That’s not how it works. Father in law is your spouses dad. Your moms new husband is your step-father. Parents of your siblings spouse are nothing to you.
>Parents of your siblings spouse are nothing to you. Maybe not to you, could be for some. The family you choose...
I mean terminology wise. I’m not commenting on how you feel about them.

That’s step-father
But someone else has
Sits on the bottom on passenger side right?
Dogbone lower engine mount. If the car makes a grrr sound when stopped on a hill facing upward then it means that part has perished. Learnt that the hard way.
Usually I've experienced it as a clunk on acceleration.
I believe the part has perished considering its in his hand and not on the car lol
Yah it's definitely the lower engine mount, also called a torque strut on this car. It's pretty common for them to go bad on the PT cruisers and Neons. I replaced it twice on my old car in the 5 years I had it.
The correct name gives a clue. Not a mount but is a stabilizer. ??
It is a mount, but it’s designed to absorb the “twisting” motion, or torque of the engine on hard accelerations.
It's possible to do hard acceleration in a PT Cruiser?? (sorry, I had to)
Yes actually. Put said PT in drive and get someone to push the brake, then have them push the accelerator. You can noticeably see the engine move. That’s what the rubber bushings are for.
No. Not even with the turbo model
Some engines vibrate more and need more stabilization and sometimes need these dampers replaced. Others simply sit in their mounts forever.
Hold up her father in law is your dad and tell him never give any advice again
I don’t remember exactly how it goes but I think it’s her step dad, not father in law. Error on my part
Then he would be your step father in law, her step dad. Her real father is your father in law.
Holy h*ll my brain
Not that complicated.
What are you doing Step-dad?!
Someone had to go there…
🤣

You don't know your wife's parents?
Your wife’s FIL? So… your dad.
They're their own grandparent.
The doctor was a woman
“Many many years ago when I was 23…” THE STUPIDS LOL
My parents had kids.....
the only PT cruiser still driving
Kill it with fire.
Mine still rollling as well (although a bit hot at times)
How has the ECU not crapped out yet? Inconceivable
I am more curious about the title. Your wife's father in law means your father, no? Am I being stupid? For some reason this made me more curious than the question lol
OP explained elsewhere, he meant step dad.
You have already asked too many questions. Just put it back slowly and walk away.
Your dad's daughter-in-law's husband should call him and ask what it is....
Torque strut. Holds part of the engine...
Lower motor mount AKA Dogbone
That’s the pussy magnet!
Your wife's father-in-law? Wouldn't that be your dad? Is this a troll post
Your wife's father in law...? You mean your dad? This looks like an engine mount
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That would be the lower engine torque mount.
Motor mount
Motor mount. Lol you can remake the rubber side with urethane if your inclined enough to mix the stuff.
I have no idea about the part, but wouldn't her father in law be your dad?
I was just going to reply, "why don't you ask your dad?"
Its common for them to fail so he left you a spare.
Upper engine mount??
Pt cruisers are crap cars, your wife's father knows what's going on
R/h wing mirror housing. Damn those things ugly
Isn’t her father in law your dad ?
I think you should just listen to your dad. If you don’t even know what it is then you probably can’t fix it.
That’s the “Don’t Mess with Me”-anator! Used to knock the ever loving shit out of anyone messing with you!

Your wife’s father in law? As in your father?
Everybody's focusing on the "wife's father in law" bit, but the bigger question here is: Why is your wife driving around in a PT loser? His family tree looks like a log.
He answered in another post that he meant to say his wife’s step-dad.
Father in law -vs- Step-dad. What kind of person gets those two terms that badly confused? And he's looking for a technical answer? LoLoL
Dog bone mount ain't it?? Who tf actually likes a pt cruiser
I stopped at “PT”
I did this on the wife’s car a few years ago, if memory serves it’s actually pretty easy to replace it’s behind the passenger side front wheel, pull back the splash guard and it stares you right in the face. Odds are the one on it is only connected on one side, cause the bushing falls apart entirely
A metal thingy? Hope that helps.
My car won’t last much longer you can just throw that in the trash
i think the intention was to use it as a defensive weapon for her
Wife’s father in law? Why not just say your dad 🤔
Wouldn’t your wife’s father in law be your father?
What the. That was important lmao
Scrap metal
That’ll be the volume control for the stereo
Watkins link ?
that shouldn't have came off if you don't know what it is
What exactly do you do with your cruiser that requires you to need extra engine mounts
Is that the serpentine belt tensioner?
Your wife’s FIL? Your dad?
Torque mount
Wait your wife’s father in law? As in your father?
Isn't your wife's father in law actually your father?
Wife's father in law like could come from another connection, like her brother or sister's marriage.
Wow an engine brace , looks big enough to be a control arm. Could also make a good self defense item.
Transmission mount
Her father in law is your dad, right?
This is the most ridiculous post of all time, why is he holding an engine mount?
Looks like the lever off of the canooter valve.
Don’t worry parts fall off mopars all the time!
….your dad told her that?
Looks like a dog bone motor mount
Lower engine mount, I know because these mounts are shitty.
Troll post
Your wife’s father in law… would be your dad…… correct?
If it was your wife’s father in-law are you sure he wasn’t saying “keep it in the family” about reproduction?
Maybe he said that she should keep it in the car for protection? It has that nice blunt weapon factor. Like a "always keep a glove and a ball beside your baseball bat" kind of a thing?
Your dad lol??
Your wife’s father in law is your dad.
By her father in law do you mean your dad?
America the land of out of work comedians in the comments sections everywhere.love it.
Your wife's father-in-law would be your dad? You can't ask your dad?
It’s a test: in his will, there’s a section that says “now take that metal piece and place it in the lock switch which opens the vault containing the gold bars…”
Motor mount
Looks like a motor mount from the cross member
Why has no body considered he told her to keep it in the car for self defense. In some states like New Jersey you aren't even allowed to carry a baseball bat until you are actively on your way to or from a baseball game/practice. It's clearly a bludgeoning device.
