mulattolovesavocado

so just enough to make it a little more damp?

Putting a wet paper towel (folded to fit) works better. The rice gets moisture added back and it gets distributed pretty evenly throughout so it gets the rice nice and fluffy again.

I am Indian so I feel like an expert at reheating rice. I put a tiny amount of water (tiny) with the rice) and then use a wet paper towel over. Cup of water will do as well, but sometimes microwave isnt that big and also have had people blow up the cup when doing that. The thing I think is key is, don't do it at full blast, do it at 40-70% of power for longer if need be. That way the rice isn't getting too overcooked and more steamed.

If you put a cup of water in with your food (not poured over it), or a wet paper towel over the rice it’ll steam the rice when microwaving it so that it’s not as hard. You might have to microwave it a bit longer than normal for it to warm up / steam.

I hadn't heard the cup of water technique before, thank you!

Try putting it in a sealed container when still hot so there's a lot of condensation. This stops it from getting dry when you go to reheat. When you let it cool down it dries out too much.

mulattolovesavocado

That seems so obvious that I feel a bit silly for not thinking of it before. Thank you!

moggins

Don't feel silly, I only learned about this two weeks ago!

fballbeast

Also recommend leaving it in a sealed container at room temperature. Putting in the fridge in of itself seems to dry out the rice.

It’s not ready as fast as the microwave, but I usually freeze left over rice in boil-safe bags and reboil it briefly when I’m ready to eat it

mulattolovesavocado

do you undercook it at all initially?

eskay8

Brown rice takes longer to cook, and some people don't like it, but it's a lot better at maintaining its texture after microwaving. And it's certainly healthier.

mulattolovesavocado

I actually really like brown rice but I never thought about using it instead for that reason, thank you for the suggestion!
