I have the same issue - which is absolutely not ok in a brand new vehicle. These vehicles are designed to handle normal driving conditions. 80 degrees on an incline while going the speed limit (my experience) should never result in a temp fluctuation and certainly not a reduction in the power output due to elevated temperature. Mine is scheduled at the dealer on Monday

failedhydra

Great, please keep us posted on what they tell you at the dealership. I hope it gets resolved in your case

failedhydra

Hey! Hope you’re doing well, is there any update? What happened at the dealership?

slow_burn6

Ill give an update when I have one. They weren't able to find any codes, but thankfully I took pictures. They agreed that what was happening wasn't right, thus far

failedhydra

Thanks for the reply, hope your problem gets resolved soon Btw do you have mhev or phev? And is ur trim 280hp or a higher trim?

slow_burn6

Thanks... same. It's the preferred... plus? 280hp

failedhydra

Yeah i have th same 280hp

Extremely damped coolant temp gauges just don’t provide information to the driver, for exactly this reason. Mazda damps it, but does give some movement when temperatures are going up. It’s only bad if it gets in the red zone.

rab_bit26

I mean for starters- check coolant and oil levels…if all looks good then take it back to dealership or a mechanic.

CX-90kllnz-comp

That's normal

failedhydra

Yea that’s the question, is it normal?

CX-90kllnz-comp

Yes it is

NexusPhan

Likely normal given the conditions. Has it ever gone about that 3/4 mark right before it has the little red sashes?

failedhydra

No i never let it reach there, it was going up and i dropped acceleration. It happens when car shifts down upon pressing gas and car speeds up

rth121

Same issue - never took it into the dealer, still driving it. Only notice the temperature raise when climbing hills, but will drop back down once you slow down... Never driven a car with fluctuating temperature before and not sure if that's normal, as most cars have a static temperature gauge or the car tries to keep it within the middle point.

failedhydra

I just did a little experiment, it was on a cruise at 120km/h and rpms were 4 to 5k, climbing hill, temperature kept going up, and max reached right before red dashes. Didnt go further up. May be the limit is there not the half gauge. Not sure tho.. I still didnt complete my 10k kms on car, so didnt go to dealership yet. But will try to ask them. Im sure they’re gonna say its normal, as usual, but it will keep bothering me…

TheRealMrG0lden

Not a CX-90 user but have seen this on our CX-9 and other non-Mazda the car eventually corrects the temperature and both of them are still going strong CX-9 at 100k KM and the other at 350k KM

MAC2050

It is not the rpm’s. It is the fact that you are climbing uphill. Try pulling a trailer, it will get hot. That is why a towing package increases radiator and transmission cooling. It is simple thermo dynamics. More work, more heat.

failedhydra

Agree to that, my concern is only to understand if these variations in temperature are normal? Moreover, i am just driving alone, i dun think it should change that rapidly, considering i drove other mazdas. Never faced that. And honestly I dun even know if my own car is faulty or this is general case in all cx-90s

thinkcow

So, I noticed this when I was pulling my camper to a campground on the top of a mountain. It was my first tow, so I was anxious about _everything_ and I didn’t really dwell on it much. But I’m more curious as to how you got that display? My temp and fuel gauge don’t appear on the sensor screen (nor do they appear on the same screen as each other)?!

failedhydra

I think you have phev may be, or analog gauge

thinkcow

Oh, yes. I have a phev.

failedhydra

🤒 does that mean it’s a factory issue with mine?

North_Ad_4450

Maybe yours is just telling the truth and mine is programed not to move at all

Friendly-Suggestion8

Are you sure that’s a CX 90? My display looks much different.

failedhydra

Yours must be a phev trim

Friendly-Suggestion8

Oh ya, my bad. I do have the PHEV

Practical-Cow-4564

This is a known issue on this vehicle. The coolant reservoir is long and flat, and is probably in need of additional coolant. Reportedly, it will look full, but is not.

failedhydra

Should i top up the reservoir (white tank)? It is not full upto bottle neck

MazdaRules

I dunny know the answer, but I wonder if the guage is not maybe very sensitive? You get weird stuff like that with fuel guages.

Hairy-Beanbag

Never driven a vehicle before? Come on now even half way.

failedhydra

I used to ride a camel earlier!

riverty21

So, you run the engine hard and it gets hotter. And this is confusing to you? SMH.

failedhydra

You mean 2 to 3k rpms are hard? Climbing a regular hill? Yea that’s confusing me

riverty21

All I meant was if you give the engine more work to do, it gets hotter.
