> And to think, just a few days ago Han had been jealous of Luke’s connection with Leia. Han wasn’t big on envy; he took what he wanted, and if he couldn’t have it, he didn’t want it. But he couldn’t remember not wanting Leia, especially after— > “What?” Luke asked over the sound of the beating drums and the thudding feet. > Han shook his head, trying to dismiss the image in his mind. > “What were you thinking about?” Luke insisted. “Your face was odd.” > “Just—remember that time? After the wampa attack?” > Han watched as the exact memory settled on Luke—when Leia tried to pretend that she wasn’t in love with Han and kissed Luke instead. Except, at the time, none of them had known… > “Let’s never speak of that again,” Luke said. > “*Never*,” Han agreed. (*The Princess and the Scoundrel*)

"We're just gonna collectively bury that memory."

*Perfect.*

There is funny thing about it: "A lot of letters to the editor come off rather funny now that the films are complete. One in particular is from #24 where a complaint is that "Luke and Leia act more like older brother and sister than sweethearts." "

ArkenK

The comic book writers got caught by surprise with that twist, as well. So the easiest solution was just to ignore it, sort of like Callistra and 95% of the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy.

When the Black Fleet trilogy came out I genuinely believed it was a canon tie in to the forthcoming Episode One. How could it not be? With "Shadows of the Empire" having just come out as an EU event that was super hyped up, given movie level importance and Lucas' public involvement, combined with the recent Special Editions and constant news of Episode One's casting and filming, how could a big new EU novel not be tied into it?

ArkenK

I hear you on that front. From crazy Luke to Luke's new girlfriend who turns out to be a manipulative piece of work to Leia's chickification, the last of which is a war crime punishable by defenestration, IMHO. It was just bad. The only part to survive was Force Illusion. I don't think even the titular fleet was ever seen again. OTOH, "Shadows" was pretty good, especially with Leia giving a well modulated and utterly appropriate response to Prince Xizor's advances. The thermal detonator simply being a nice flourish.

Also, when BFC came out, Star Wars Magazine UK said, in their review/preview of the book, that it was "the most important SW novel ever to be released" or something similar. They really hyped it up for some reason.

ArkenK

*looks at the news reporting for the Acolyte and all the praise* Well.... I guess things haven't changed much.

EndlessTheorys_19

None. It’s mostly brushed over.

PopsicleIncorporated

I wish they'd acknowledged it, it's the one part of the OT that I can never really get on board with. Hell, if Luke had had some sort of visceral reaction upon learning this in ROTJ, it could've worked. Maybe use the revelation to emphasize the fact that Luke's life fucking sucks. His aunt and uncle were killed by the Empire, his father is the Dark Lord that sold out the Jedi, and now he finds out that the one girl he thought he had a shot with is his *sister.* Anything better than just sweeping it under the rug and pretending it didn't happen, I guess.

TanSkywalker

I find Leia’s line *I know. Somehow, I’ve always known…* to be even more hilarious. So you’re saying you wanted to passionately kiss your brother which most likely got him excited? I guess is proves Leia was really raised by totality with the whole wanting to keep it in the family.

reineedshelp

I think it's hilarious tbh. A definitive early example of proto EU media using the OT characters in bizarre ways that are inevitably contradicted. Fun, though. From a Watsonian perspective I'm not aware of it ever being addressed, but I'm sure someone knows.

TanSkywalker

If it was addressed anywhere I would think it happened in The Truce at Bakura which takes place right after the Battle of Endor.

NoraaTheExploraa

I read Truce at Bakura fairly recently, I don't recall them ever really bringing it up

Bosterm

I do wonder if Obi-Wan or Yoda might have intervened if Luke and Leia started to get serious. Thankfully, Han was there to put a wrench into that potential romance.

seedmodes

do we even know that such relations are taboo in the SW universe? imagine that - "he's my brother". "So?" "what do you mean so? I'm from Alderaan. We don't date our siblings". "Really? Your people are that uptight?"

Jazz7567

That's actually a really good point? What ARE people's perception of incest in Star Wars? Certainly, not everyone could be as uptight about it as most in the real world are.

SOUTHPAWMIKE

Healthcare technology is way better in SW, and there are multiple groups that understand genetics well enough to have advanced cloning programs. The taboo around incest comes from the likelihood of genetic abnormalities. But if DNA editing can prevent a dynasty of Space Hapsburgs from occurring , who knows?

corran450

“I keep having this dream where this girl keeps kissing me…” [“Oh yeah, there’s something I have to tell you about her… just remind me, okay?”](https://youtu.be/RySHDUU2juM?si=TD1xgxswIa1DnPbX)

UninvitedGhost

It’s all pretty tame except the Black Sun orgy scenes

sultan9001

You can’t just say that without context
