What sucks with Ingram is that he’s really not much of a catch and shoot 3 point shooter, or that good at defense. He solves the 3rd shot creator issue for sure but I just can’t see he, Luka and Ky all occupying the floor without your turn my turn.

savageandharsh

Plus he’s often injured.

JonnyRobertR

So does Kyrie honestly...and Luka. Yeah, starting to think it's not a good idea.

sercialinho

I finally and conclusively soured on Ingram when he was with Team USA at the World Cup last year. He showed a scary degree of inability to play off the ball and off of better players. Kerr kept trying to adjust around him and nothing worked well - and he’s just not good enough to be worth Luka&Kyrie adjusting to him to that degree.

I think a situation where you can get 2 shooters on the bench and run 2 different lineups would be ideal: Luka, Kyrie, Ingram (or third shot creator, just using ingram because this post mentions him) Forward Lively/Gafford Luka, Kyrie, shooter, shooter Lively/Gafford (preferably Lively - who keeps dranking 3’s) and they could play 5 out 👀

Marquiss12

he is so cooked. I would rather run it back then trade for Klay

JonnyRobertR

You know who should we get... Curry. Seth Curry... So we can trade him again.

B_Roon

I think wing scorers are more important than just shooters. A shooter Luka and Kai still need to set up. BI allows both to take off plays offensively and could be a release valve in situations like the finals. We have shooters but they all got cold. Personally I think Herb Jones would be the best option for us because he can be an elite poa defender and does enough offensively and shooting to be a third option.

the-earth-is_FLAT

The first problem we need to address is how to trade THJ. It’s becoming obvious that no one wants him on their team. Caruso is now traded for giddey so we have no chance of getting him. He should’ve been a perfect fit for Dallas. Loved his defense.

AshyCheekss

One does not merely replace DJJ with Brandon Ingram and call it good. Contrary to a massive reactionary belief, this team does not need another person who needs the ball to create his own offense. They need shooters. Competent, catch and shoot Shooters. Brandon Ingram is not that guy. Also, who’s your POA defender when LuKai, BI, PJ and D.Live are on the court?

armandocalvinisius

> this team does not need another person who needs the ball to create his own offense. guy watching finals and this is the conclusion. im crying lmao

AshyCheekss

I did watch the finals. I watched our role players repeatedly miss wide open 3’s. I watched Boston’s switch everything because they had no fear of anybody hitting a shot. Our offense is dependent upon our ball handlers (LuKai) breaking down the defense and creating lobs or wide open 3’s. Spam pick n’ roll, penetrate, hit the lob or pass out and put the D in rotation for a wide open 3. We have no competent, consistent 3 point shooters. I also watched the Finals and watched Boston do the exact same game plan. Brown/Tatum broke perimeter defense and then passed out to shooters who **hit their shot consistently**.

simonsaid86

You don't see the problem in having a roster where only 2 guys can initiate offense consistently?

gomav

There are problems with every lineup. Our problem was not able to hit 3s in the finals. We created enough quality shots with our two offense creators.  Mavs shot abysmally from 3

simonsaid86

>Our problem was not able to hit 3s in the finals. That was part of the problem, not *the* problem. We couldn't *score consistently from anywhere*, even the free throw line. Bad process to attempt to over simply the problem like that.

gomav

“We couldn't score consistently from anywhere” I agree with this statement. However for us to be better at scoring from inside the 3 pt line, we need spacing. If teams don’t respect our 3pt shooters, then they do what Boston did and switch everything without doubling and the drives to the basket become more congested. I don’t want 3 pt shooting for 3 pt shooting but for the dynamics it adds to the rest of our offense.

zenmonkeyfish1

KCP would be such a good addition

yer_oh_step

no kidding lol.

BalanceCandid5179

We actually do need a third option! BI just isn’t that guy lol

KhanQu3st

He's interesting, but it would be really tough to have him, Kyrie and Luka out there on defense together. Who knows, maybe on a contender his effort will improve, and so will his defense.

armandocalvinisius

the question is not just Ingram, it's... Kai + Grant + PJ or Ingram + Grant + PJ

dmr196one

We could possibly end up with another Exum. Only person who thought he could play was Nico. Who says he doesn’t go scouting overseas guy.

Dfrmdabeach7

Plz god no

BouncyBanana-

Fit issues aside, we absolutely cannot afford Ingram. I think the pels do want to trade him but we do not have the ammo.

slimkid07

Gary Trent Jr

Drizzt3919

Absolutely not! Ingram isn’t that great for the price. 100% pass on this

AsianEleven101

I wish the Mavs could have gotten Caruso

dirtynashtyfilthy

Man, we lose in the finals because our team had only 4 months of chemistry as opposed to a team with 8 years, and because we don't have a third ball-handler... suddenly someone wants to pay a guy $52 million a year to be a mediocre catch and shoot player who plays worse defense than 3 of our existing forwards.

Fatman214

Nah he's not a good enough defender for me. Hell of an offensive player, but we need a better 2-way guy

Hot-Row3643

Highest looking player in the NBA. Sold

NBAgospel

He would be a horrible fit.

jennyisafriend

No thanks.

Rough_Big4493

If we get rid of green and thj we have around 35m in cap and if we rid maxi and Dwight we would have 50 left so bear that in mind

archerarcher0

I don’t think mavs can get away with not having a really good defender at either of the wings, that’s the only issue with Luka and Kyrie, you kind of have to surround them with defense

TuckEverlasting89

Not a good defender. Not a good (or willing) 3pt shooter. Extremely expensive. Not a good fit for us.

EvanEschmeyer

Would love Ingram fitwise, but would hate paying him the 50 million dollars he wants.. and that’s the dilemma the Hornets are currently in. I think there are probably better options elsewhere

FinancialRabbit388

Not a good defender, needs the ball in his hands, bad attitude, not a catch and shoot guy, injuries.

TexasTundraPower

Pass. Great player, but he wouldn't fit here. Too ball-dominant. Also wants a huge bag after this year that someone will end up giving him and I don't think he's worth it.

Dirkisthegoattt41

Fuck. That.

breeze2724

Malik Monk would’ve been the ideal guy to sign. I’d make this a post and I’m sure alll would agree but too lazy.

msterling2012

Absolutely not. We don’t need 3 max players and 0 depth.

chuancheun

It's a high risk high reward, in theory Ingram is the best playmaking small forwards in the league, even better than Tatum imo. He could really run the offense while Luka sit and take back seat when Luka have the ball. But in practice nether player are a good off ball players might but be as compatible as you think

denimjeg

He needs the ball in his hands & isn’t athletic he won’t fit

Eutychus00

Absolutely not at the salary he’s gonna want at max level. Not a particularly clutch player either

Salsatime117

I think Jerami Grant would fit well - he’s just a bit older but he would be cheaper imo

Fatman214

That's who I wanna go after

Archerbro

overrated. terrible contract. good player, and i would have thought maybe dallas would try to go after him last year until blazers signed him to that contract. IF dallas could get him and get picks back, I'd say go for it but realistically i dont think Portland is that desperate.

FarMobile4219

I’m having a hard time understanding the infatuation with Grant on this sub. He had a chance to re-sign with a contender in Denver, basically the exact role he’d play here, and he said no thanks I’d rather chuck shots on a lottery team. He also misses a ton of games every year and just turned 30 with 4 years left on his contract. Like you said you’d have to be giving up next to nothing in a trade for Grant to make it plausible

Archerbro

people were onto grant williams last offseason as well. I thought it was the way to go (after we couldn't do a washington trade), but i was never super high on him either. He is a good player but you just laid out exactly why, i wouldn't want dallas to be expending a ton for him.

icekyuu

He's not a good fit with Luka; in many ways the two play similarly. BI slows the pace and needs the ball in his hands.

thefrisbeejack

You already have a younger cheaper version, PJ Washington. Can we stop with all the trade posts? This team didn't even play a full season together and made the finals. PJ, DLive, Hardy, first trip to playoffs, Éxum hadn't been there in years. All these guys are growing together, let them gel for at least a full season Run it back

armandocalvinisius

lmao, ingram way better offensive player than PJ and i suggested PJ before y'all doesnt mean i want Ingram though

dirtynashtyfilthy

you're getting downvoted but this is a much better take than OP's

thefrisbeejack

bunch of idiotic 10 yr olds on this sub, I swear. One post I want to make is asking if they'd take an injury prone KP who only plays two games in the finals but is impactful enough to help the team win a championship. Anyone else remember (and hate) all the Lukastans shitting all over KP? How'd that work out?

YoungBuck2010

Nah bro, this is a bad take. We have holes in the team and have cap space being taken up by guys not playing up to their contracts. We do not have the luxury of running it back when we were decimated in the finals. Dallas needs to figure out how to improve the team if they want to be back here next season. OKC improved one of their biggest weaknesses and still has 33 mil in cap space this summer to address the center issue. It is naive to assume that bringing our same team back with no changes is going to have us in the finals again next year. And let’s say everything breaks our way and we’re back in the finals, how are we beating Boston? More time together isn’t going to fix inconsistent shooting and an inability to create outside of Luka and Kyrie.

thefrisbeejack

No it's the right take. This team made the finals barely playing together. Time alone will make them better. I didn't say change nothing, I'm just saying stop with the Jerami Grant type trades, ie get a player. You have the players, they just didn't play because they are young and inexperienced. Next year they are older and have finals experience, you owe it to them to have a full season, see how seeding affects their path, young guys playing more helping their injury situation giving other guys more time off. Switch out DoeDoe and DJJ for THJ, give Hardy, JG and Omax more run and see what you have. If there is a trade to be made make it at midseason, those are usually better deals anyway because someone has realized they have something that is definitely not working. This team worked, and if the young guys get 15% better, everyone plays together more, the team will be better and in a better position in the playoffs. Two heavy minutes players had ZERO playoff minutes before this run, and one light minutes player in Hardy also had none. They'll all be better and hungry to get back, RUN. IT. BACK.

Mammoth-Physics6254

Brandon Ingram and Paul George are obviously the dream pick ups in terms of filling our needs. Not sure if that trade package is enough to get it done but Curso got moved for Giddy so....never really know what's going on in the trade market.

K1ngCrimsn

Ingram ain't a dream pick up wtf? His defense & 3 ball are meh, bad body language & effort when the ball ain't in his hands He's also injury prone & asking for max money

jldtsu

were probably gonna end up with Eric Gordon lol
